Great video reminds me of 1975 to 79. 10 dollar rats were not uncommon. Made great money as a kid in the thumb of Michigan trapping farm ponds and ditches. Thank you
Keep up the good work 330 ! I dont have very many rats , so I dont go after them . Caught 2 last year in otter sets with 280s and didnt know they were around ! I get my rats watchin you !
First visit here.......I scrolled through all your videos. Looks like you're doing all the stuff I wish I could......but obligations and such keep me tethered close to home. I am blessed to live on a smaller river.....21 years ago when I moved here there was an unbelievable number of rats, as well as beaver, otters, mink, and even a few fishers.....and waterfowl....mostly mallards and wood ducks.....no all gone....all we have now are eagles...... I have always wanted to trap, but never had a mentor, and was looking forward to getting into it..... I am just wondering, would you ever do a breakdown of costs and how much you take in for your fur? It would be really interesting.
Not allowed to trap huts in Ohio but runs are fair game. Rats are always fun to trap and the occasional mink is a bonus. Not much money in rats but it's easy set-up fur.
Not much money in rats this year. Auction was good, then the market took a shit last week. I'm an old school guy, just a hobby at this point. Mink are no longer a bonus. Pound for pound, rats have ruled the fur market...coyote a close 2nd and nothing else close
I look for bubble trails leading up to a certain area where they stop. Then I chop a hole at that location. Usually there is a hole under the bank leading up under the shoreline
How are you getting the muskrats dried out ready to skin I am really struggling with them being frozen solid by the time I get home and obviously all iced up how do you get them to quickly thaw out and dry out so they can be skinned and dried trying to find a good quick system...
hey i see guys do the same exact sets as you, and when they reach into the hut they just pull out a spring trap that holds just a rat foot. what are they doing wrong?
just wondering why you make the holes so small why wouldn't you make they a little bigger seems like your kinda fighting to get the traps through the ice and get the rats back out
@@330Maniac thanks you brought back good times when I hunted the Lake Erie hen I was Young and my Late Dad cook muskrat and the Other wildlife I brought Home. Ever trap Large Snapping Turtle 🐢?
Brings me back to some of the first videos I watched of yours

Yes John correct in 1978 rats were going $12-15 here in Manitoba Canada I know a guy that purchased a new 1978 GMC truck with his rat trapping money
Nice to see someone use old traps,(the older style long spring ). They are what made this country!
I like using the old Victor stop loss jump traps. It holds both jaws down no loose one. I'm also in MN. Excellent video.
Thanks for pumping out the great videos Scott!
The old Oneida Victor stop loss haven’t seen anyone using those in many a moon - great video

Boom Shakalaka. That’s a new one. Lol 😂 😂😂😂
You got a new axe!
They are very very good eating
Love the rat videos 😁
Another great video. Pumping up the "volume" a little more would help.
Another great video 👍, wish we had huts like that in my area here in Nebraska. I'm sure there's some on the bigger ponds. I need to take a look
Wish we had more marsh rats here, nutria seem to have run them out
Some chunky buggers. 👊💀🇺🇲

I’m surprised no one asks about the boys ax you use. I use the same thing beaver trapping.
👍
Love the muskrat trapping videos! What's the fur like this time of year in your area?
When you look for runs what are you feeling for under ice and whats is the clue on ice where it could be?

1st muskrat I trapped was in 1979 Yee Yee!
What’s the best way to dispatch a skrat that hasn’t died in the trap?

How often do you sharpen and or replace you axe?
What do you do with the Furs when you catch them? Muskrats aren't worth that much.

Tried this today and all the huts were frozen out. I'm in MN too, is it too late for huts?
Yes as winter wears on most of the huts freeze up inside
Are they gone from the ponds then? I haven't had much luckninbopen creeks either.

Ондатра вышла почти под ноги.

Was this the pond that guy tried to kick you off?
No it's not
Sir are you aloud to sell the Meat of the Muskrat?
Yes

Love chasing the rats! Still find it strange I have never seen a hut anywhere in Washington state, just bank dens. Not sure why
Same in Oregon
Doesn't get cold enough
@@AnthonyRubeoOutdoors I didn't know you were in Oregon right on neighbor!
@@BigBeavrSlayer NW part at that. 20 minutes west of Portland
@@AnthonyRubeoOutdoors at least you get to use real traps (kicks stupid cage)
