I am sure that’s the way it was done back when new, except for the 1850 black foam. In my mid 60’s, I still enjoy learning yet I do admit that two buckets seats modified to suit me, are in the near future. Thanks kindly for sharing and I enjoyed the burlap. As for “Horse Hair” used in seats, yes! Horse hair used in plaster & lath walls, I laugh thinking the a lot of naked horses were everywhere! DK, Omaha. ASE Master Tech 78. Building mine now…

Way back when - A and E had a show - Furniture to go. I loved watching that show - it was so relaxing. Your upholstery videos do the same. Pretty impressive and beautiful work for just throwing something together. It was funny to see Lux show-up in the box - I was surprised he stay'd in it.

I've been a tech for 41 years and I'm about to hang up my wrenches and store away my lab scopes in December for good.
I'm a newbie upholsterer that started dabbling in upholstery when the covid thing started, not knowing how my repair business was going to fare.
I have absolutely no idea how I accomplished finishing a complete upholstery overhaul in my first job pretty much by myself. With zero experience and never sewing a stitch before, I asked my client if I could use his 1962 Galaxie as a guinea pig. He said yes when I told him that if I effed it up I would pay to have it done properly. Well 6 months later it was complete and looks awesome. I did everything from the headliner to the visors, carpet, door panels, package tray and seats. Everything.
Next one was a 1974 LeSabre drop top. Again, a complete overhaul less the top. I glassed the cracked up dash and covered it with closed cell foam and then heated and stretched the vinyl to cover it. What a beatch!! But he is extremely happy being that it's a weekend driver and somewhat show car. I'm doing a 36 ft. WellCraft boat as of now and it's going well.
Enough self adulation and digressing from my original intent for my comment and question.
How much should I charge for a seat covering like you did with your car? Labor only. How about a bucket seat, each with no real custom design? And how about a bench seat with a leaner in the middle? Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.

I agree with you about late model seats in classic cars, it absolutely ruins them.
I passed on buying an otherwise really nice car because someone put late model buckets in it and had tossed the original bench seat 🤦♂️

Don’t toss your original bench if you do put buckets in. Finding another is a huge pain.
My first shoebox had no front seat. I ended up buying another car just to get the seat frame from it
After watching both segments of the video I learned a lot and understand why some covers are expensive.

I paid $3 for mine turkey electric turkey cutter knife at the second hand store I don't think it ever been used it even came with a nice case it's kind of funny it was probably from the '80s cuz it's that weird white plastic with wood grain I've had it for like 25 years now still working great

Brilliant. And your so right when you see a car or truck with modern seats never looks good. Especially high backs and headrests. Still haven’t had ago but have bought a second hand sofa that needs covering so I’ll have a practice on that. Cheers from England. Tim. Lux is superb👌

Hi I have the same car that need the rear seat done although it has the original material on it, I hope to get some good information. As for the package tray mine has some kind of formed plastic that was covered. Did you do a video on the quarter window regulators? They are quite unique!

All new foam on the cushion. The original was long gone
I see you cutting lots of material with those scissors and wonder what brand they are and how you keep them sharp.
I’m not sure what brand they are. I bought them at Sawyer Sewing here in Victoria for $37 over 6 years ago now. I’ve done absolutely nothing to keep them sharp except occasionally drop them on the floor or spray glue on them 😆

You want the plastic to be wrinkle free in the area you’re patterning.

I order my foam from KB Fabrics in Surrey BC. Im not sure if they have a website, I just call them like it’s 1999.
I cant seem to find 1890 density 1 “ foam you described. Do you have a vendor for it you could share?

This material is Naugahyde vinyl. But there are literally thousands of different kinds of materials to suit your styles and taste.
The seat foundation is made from burlap, 1/2” Jute underlay and 1” 1890 density foam.
