Another reason why Jiren chose to shut himself from others and solely rely on himself is that he did try to get help and rally his fellow disciples to avenge their master but no one tried to help him. They were afraid and left Jiren alone when he needed them most. This adds another layer to his cold attitude as its not just because he's afraid of losing people but also that he's been let down by having faith in others and doesn't want to be let down again.
Unlike Goku, who is cheerful and relying on his friends. Some were even enemies at one point. Strength was found through connection, not through separation.

One thing I like to point out to my friends who are less keen on Jiren, is the fact that he's basically just Goku but from a far less optimistic universe. He didn't have allies or family alongside him, they were lost. He didn't have magic wish granting balls to fix his problems, the namekians and their magic isn't known to universe 11 as far as we know. Ironically, in that moment at least, he was a villain. Something I think he realized himself after the ToP. I hope we get to see more of the grey guy, but we'll have to see.

@divinedeviant Yeah.. unfortunately. But I'm glad that a sum is appreciating Jiren. He is a direct opposite of Goku, who gains strength through trust and friendship.
Jiren is a fascinating character, an interesting incorporation in the franchise for several reasons. First, he is not an antagonist or villain, he is an individual with his own set of morality, convictions and perspectives that only put him to face Goku as one of the most steps for the protagonist to overcome his limits. Another is that it was designed to be a counterpart of the protagonist on his way of strength: Jiren became powerful, to the point of being at the level of a hakoishin, but training on his own, strengthening without establishing contact or connection with others on his way ; the opposite of Goku who reached where he is for his teammates and rivals who led him to be where he is today.
@@kirbyeatsyourfamily7345 well depends how one saw him. To me he isn't an antagonist given he is a superhero-type with no evil intent in his character, you could say an opponent given he was put in that situation. But again, one can have differents points of view about Jiren

Jiren is a guy who completely devoted everything to strength. He acts completely on his own self-interest. That's not me saying that, that's Jiren and Vegeta's dialogue.
Great vid I agree with pretty much everything you said. Question, do you look into any of the source material behind DB like Journey to the West, Buddhism, Taoism, Martial Arts, etc? You're really knowledgeable about the series based on the videos I have watched.
FARRR more potential than vegeta or goku. No god ki and he’s already Complete ultra instinct level. Imagine complete ultra instinct Jiren? Or hakaishin jiren?

Anyone who says jiren has no personality doesn’t understand…. We can’t even comprehend a person who surpassed the gods… he’s legitimately different… he doesn’t need a personality he is a force of nature
Jiren is him and you can’t fuck with him unless you wanna know what clouds taste like in the afterlife. Because that’s where you’ll be going in less than a quectosecond. Also who’s the best bald badass kratos, Jiren , thanos or saitama?
Instead of making Jiren like the younger Toguro, I believe it would’ve been more interesting to the story to make him more like Saitama. In fact, a lot of us thought of him as much when he told Goku “I seek what lies beyond strength” before we got his backstory in the arc. A character like Saitama would challenge Vegeta’s & Goku’s idea of strength by facing a character who has done why they haven’t; a character who has become the absolute strongest. Maybe more so a challenge to Vegeta’s philosophy, since Goku seeks to beat his best rather than be stronger than others. Goku embodies the opposite philosophy of Saitama; a character who seeks to become stronger simply because he enjoys it. Goku and Vegeta going up against the concept of strength itself could’ve really broken down the themes of strength & trust in others even further than we initially got, in addition to delivering an interesting meta commentary on shonen in general. In short, I wish Goku vs Jiren was really Goku vs Saitama for that meta concept, but there’s still elements of that in what we got at least.
Would you please consider doing a video on Yujiro Hanma from Baki, he is way overlooked and misunderstood as a character, often only viewed as an overpowered villain.
What if vegeta lost a large amount of ki/power when he first turned ssjb against goku black because he lost confidence while failing to intimidate goku black?
I've been wanting a deep dive into jiren because that seems to be an echelon of power that seems to be skipped over, what _about_ the mightiest mortals, what _about_ rivaling the gods rather than progressing along *their* tiers of power? powerful power's sake has its value if used _properly._

So basically jirens whole personality is just if I close you off and use physical force and worry about nothing but myself I will win do I agree, that’s subjective do I respect that I don’t know but what i do know is that Jiren is built different and seeing him battle Super Broly would be a badass fight
Contradiction is such a good writing technique for a character, Jiren denies the tournament and he is describes as self-less. BUT once he hears he can get a wish he joins. if only they had that scene in the anime as well as actually explaining his wish in the anime.¨ His parallel with 17 is so good as well, the anime really butchered this lol.
i disagree. anime and manga jiren are different takes on his character. the anime version actually did the scene better imo because it perfectly explains his obsession with strength and why his wish matters
I hate the ending of the tournament, Jiren should have won and wish back his master and the erased universes, through wich the Z fighters have to face new oponents and jIren joins them. I really like Jiren
If enough of us FANS spread the word we can make this happen. How dope would a side arc movie of Jirens origins be?! I'd buy it. They gotta give bring Jiren back hard, I feel like hes toriyamas new favorite character. Bring him back and let him be the dude who saves every1, and in the end he gives Goku his credit that he couldve nevrr gotten that far without having met Goku. Take my money
Another reason why Jiren chose to shut himself from others and solely rely on himself is that he did try to get help and rally his fellow disciples to avenge their master but no one tried to help him. So basically jirens whole personality is just if I close you off and use physical force and worry about nothing but myself I will win do I agree, that’s subjective do I respect that I don’t know but what i do know is that Jiren is built different and seeing him battle Super Broly would be a badass fight
They should make Jiren spin-off
Ive recently come around with Jiren, from not being a fan thinking hes so cool.
:) good vid
Contradiction is such a good writing technique for a character, Jiren denies the tournament and he is describes as self-less. BUT once he hears he can get a wish he joins. if only they had that scene in the anime as well as actually explaining his wish in the anime.¨
His parallel with 17 is so good as well, the anime really butchered this lol.
i disagree. anime and manga jiren are different takes on his character. the anime version actually did the scene better imo because it perfectly explains his obsession with strength and why his wish matters
@@leultrainstinct406Why do you have the best takes lol
Do all of these great points apply to Super’s manga?
Absolute Chad.
What good are the gods if everyone is able to pass them
1 mortal in one universe and above all 4 ish in another coming closeish-
None known in the others.
Not really close to everyone
that's what happened with Kami back when Raditz showed up lmao this is nothing new
Honestly after seeing so many jokes about the grey having no personality, watching such a deep dive like this, is interesting
He should be wearing red, blue, gold, and white.
As strong as Jiren is he and the pride troopers should seek the super dragon balls to revive his friends
We talk about saiyans. But whatever Jiren’s species is had to be powerhouses. The strength Jiren possesses without transformations is crazy.
Cool
