Wow, you all managed to reflect what I think I will love about this game and addressed what I was concerned about. I am now confident in my decision to get this deluxified version! Thanks
Great game! I don't know if I need the deluxe version, but if you don't have the game: it's really great! I just wanted to add...and if Shira feels like she got her full say then I'm cool with that...but I really value Shira's opinion as well. I feel like at times, she had to do a hard interrupt to get her thoughts out. That could just be me. I know she is/was a bit under the weather too...but I just would really appreciate on these collaborations if Shira could get some more 'opinion' time, please! :D
Ode's designs (like Cooper Island) provide flexible levers to allow you to be able to pull off very satisfying conversions and transactions in order to provide the resources you are looking for. Especially considering the multi-use card mechanic, there are always going to be interesting means of accomplishing your desired contracts. If players are trying to find the "right card" to fit their strategy, I don't necessarily think that was the intent of this design. Instead, the designer is looking for you to find clever methods to acquire your desired resources. Even if you dont draft the die of interest, the fact that you can sell/purchase goods can ease the "tightness" that one may experience. I also believe that the game does have some healthy tension, in knowing when to tactically secure turn order to be able to deliver earlier vs later, as delivering later often rewards players much better for pushing off player chits for extra VP, and also preventing players from scoring end of round bonuses. Having players maintain their chits on the board is not something to simply forget, as you may be rewarding players nearly 4-6 VP per round. In the end, players will need to enjoy the puzzle and the constant gymnastics your brain will do while juggling multi-use cards in order to enjoy this design.
"More tight then fun"...I'm not sure that's a selling point for me. That said, I'm not sure I fully understand Jesse's comment. I mean, I know what the words mean, I just don't know if I've ever had that experience with a game. Maybe I have but just didn't recognized it as such. This Deluxe version does look pretty amazing. Modules add more stuff, but they still aren't going give you big shifts in gameplay the way expansions do, imo. I remain on the fence for now and will watch more reviews and game plays. Thanks for your opinion. It is always appreciated.
Out of curiosity, what do you think of the Seaside, Prosperity, and Renaissance expansions? And if you have the shy pluto expansion for space base, what did you think of that as well?
I used to play nice games a la granja in four players on the table in my small kitchen, now for them I should enlarge the kitchen and have a mega table to play with since they have quadrupled the game size? 😄
What is it about modules? I feel like realistically the seldom add much. Yet the allure of change for the better or of additional variety is such a strong pull. It's like a nice mystery, which often is spoiled when you figure it out. But sometimes it sticks the landing.
I still can‘t decide to back or not to back it.. i‘m interested for sure but i can‘t imagine that our group would play La granja and enjoy it as much as a round of viticulture
My biggest issue with Lorezno was graphic design. If they ever do an edition of it like this, I'd buy it again. But the right most card (I forget what they were) had a slash in them that made the prices look like an "OR" cost, rather than an "AND" cost. And no matter how many times I played, it would always throw me off. I'd try to take a turn, only for a player to say I can't do it because I don't have the resources and oh right that's an AND cost, not an OR cost, despite other cards no using lines to separate items for their AND cost elsewhere. I feel like Cranio continues to make these kinds of mistakes all over the place (Newton having the wrong symbols for the cheat sheet, barrage having really poor deluxe components, newton having the expansion cards printed with the wrong backs, etc)
I'd rather have a game where you wish you had another turn way more than a game where I wish there was one less turn (which I think was a lot more common ~2014)
I'm not sure I agree with the 'tight' vs 'fun' dichotomy. Some people will find tight very fun. And some people will find power creep or those big swingy moments less fun. Of course, what's fun is fun, no doubt about that, your experience is your experience. But I think it might be better to say 'tight' vs 'powerful' or 'tight' vs 'open'. etc in the future.
Oh my! They make it sound like a Drag name, LOL. If it's Spanish the "j" is guttural. A hard "H", so to speak. "Gran-Hah". The game seems well designed but too convoluted and space hungry for my taste.
Wow, you all managed to reflect what I think I will love about this game and addressed what I was concerned about. I am now confident in my decision to get this deluxified version! Thanks
The modules for me are what I needed to see with the new edition. Some really great stuff added. (Also I like the makeover too) Thanks for the video!
Absolutely agreed. I think the base game is solid as it is, but the modules will keep giving me the reasons to dive in and try new ways to play.
Like others have said, I believe it's pronounced "La Gran-Ha" which is Spanish for "The Farm". Thanks for the review, really insightful!
Backed this as the unlocked modules look really cool to add, like the trading aspect with each other..etc and it looks so much better than before.
Yep, the modules are what have me very interested.
Bonus points for Alex slipping in the Encanto reference. Lol. Excited to be backing this one! Awesome stuff! Glad you guys covered this one. Cheers.
Alex, been a year since this video. Did you ever discern which modules you enjoy adding?

I'm backing this.. but now you guys got me wanting to play with a draft..
Thanks again for the video.
The problem with La Granja is that there's really no "release valve" that delivers that transcendent relief or triumph that the best euros do.
This one is, and shall remain, my Top 10. I do love the tightness, which for my wife and I, is where we find the fun.
Any thoughts on the regular vs. the size upgrade set? Which one was this on the picture?
This was regular, which means I can't imagine needing the jumbo.
@@BoardGameCo regular seems perfectly fine to me then. Thanks!
Have you decided on the modules yet? Thx

Looks good.. Is that the la granda edition??
Nope, that's the regular.

Is this the “La Granda” version? Looks huge
I don't believe so.
During the intro you can see a square-sized box, thus it seems to be the normal version. That looks sizable (enough) indeed!
It is not! The updated version is simply bigger to accommodate cards and components better. La Granda will be larger than this!
I think it's also a perspective thing just because the board is so close to the camera.
Hey Board & Dice, add a Quack & Co Module and I will back this game. Do it!
Shira still sounds a bit under the weather. I hope that she continues to recuperate from the COVID symptoms.

Same for me... it is a bit heavier for sure. Maybe I get the chance to play the old copy somewhere.
Thanks for this, need some guidance 😁
Anytime :)

I was on the fence and this just helped me not back it. My wallet thanks you.

So this is like Glen More II where they add a bunch of extra modules to spice up the original game?

Are you doing a final Marvel Zombies video?
Yep :) Most likely going up Thursday.
Wow! The board doesn't look like a vegeterian's vomit anymore.
Big improvement.
Any idea how this would play at 2 players?
I never played it at 2 but I imagine it would be fine, but not the ideal player count.
"La graña"?.....Do you mean La Granja (ha)? like haert (jart)
That's the one :)
ha like in "jalapeño", yes?
@@TheSyn1cal yes!!!
I immediately backed La Granja... I know, I need help.
Lol I feel you.
who is this Jesse Anderson guy, where did the Duck go?
He's visiting.
It's pronounced La Gran-Ha.
Thanks :)
It’s pronounced la granha

Interestingly enough the original actually takes up less space if you want that :)
@@BoardGameCo Good to know! I'm starting to feel that game developers are losing the plot a bit in terms of the size of their products!
I'm tempted but I own the regular version but it has fallen out of favor recently...I think because of villagers.
Interesting, I hear the surface level comparison but they feel very different to me.
"La gran ha"
Thanks :)
La "GranJA" is pronounced like "JAlapeño".
4 player and im out we depend on having 5-6 player games we never get just 3-4 player
