    5 - My favorite games. I'm disappointed when anyone I play games with doesn't like it, because it means I might play it less often.
    4 - A great game. Almost always going in my collection.
    3 - A solid game. Enjoyed it and can recommend it, but may or may not stay in my collection.
    2 - I'm either not the target audience for the gameplay, or too many issues with it.
    1 - An arguably bad game.

    I bought the game in the first few moments on KS, with the expansion add-on. But then I love going to Breweries, Distilleries, and Wineries. I love the culture and differences in all aspects of this. So all the good stuff you mentioned in the game is just multiplied by my love of the subject. H00t!

    I have been following this one pre-KS campaign for a while now. I knew I would get in on this.
    On the review: I love that you always say what you didn’t particularly like. Always a balanced review with pros and cons. Really appreciate it.

    I've got a tavern themed game (The Taverns of Tiefenthal), I've got a Vineyard themed game (Viticulture), why not add a Distillery themed game (Distilled)

    There is a really interesting solo mode that I saw. I am debating backing, but the price point is not too bad. I am glad to hear they are working on the upgraded ingredients. Thanks again for another solid review.

    I love single malt whiskies and due to that interest I became quite intrigued with the entire distilling process. So, off the bat I was very much predisposed to liking this game even before I knew anything about it aside from its name.
    I am quite relieved that you like it Alex, this is now pretty much a must-have for me.

    Love the theme, still on the fence due to price and delivery time. One thing I wish they'd change is to just have a central board? Market cards could be along the bottom, Items/ingredients/upgrades display is 2/3rds of the main section, recipes cubes/chits on 1/3rd of the main section and scoring track around the board (ticket to ride style). With some nice artwork thrown in.

      They still haven't finalized all the designs. I believe the board holding the recipe cubes and spirit labels will not be in the final game. The timeline is generous just as a precaution so there is a chance that we get the game earlier

    Did you back the game? And if so, are you doing to do a follow up review/playthrough now that the game has been delivered in the US? My son and I played it for the first time last Friday and we both loved it. We did just dive right now and after the first couple of rounds we had the complete hang of the mechanics. I understand what you said about the luck of the draw when removing the cards but that actually was a great mechanic for me. I just had to laugh when I had so many cards in my washback to prevent losing a card I wanted and that was the first one I removed. I was still able to make the proper spirit because of the basic ingredients but I did not get the extra for the premium ingredient I bought. My son, also, took it in stride. When he failed at what he wanted, he shrugged and said, "I guess I made Moonshine." So, I guess it is all in the way one approaches the game.

    • @koklead7904
      @koklead7904 3 роки тому

      Similar that you need the right ingredients for the recipe/brew. Different in that Distilled is not worker placement buy purchase ingredients using money (rather than for upkeep in Brew Crafters)

    • @koklead7904
      @koklead7904 3 роки тому

      In most cases you need your money engine to purchase ingredients. There's also the aging process which rewards you with more VP but you can't sell for $.

      I didn't feel like luck ruled the game though. You can add more ingredients to decrease the odds of losing the one card you need. Also, some distillery upgrades allow a reshuffle and redraw. Sure there was times it still won't work but careful play and being prepared to change your plans at the last minute can overcome some bad luck.

  • @patriziopastore9895

    I see know this review considering that the theme is intriguing but the type of game is missing an interaction between the player... Everyone is doing something by itself and then count the results. Looks there is no real way to "go against each other".
    The good things is that there is the solo mode that is always welcome

      Players will compete for a limited amount of "labelled" spirits that give bonuses that can be very valuable. Also, the central market has some very good and limited distillery upgrades players buy.

    I need to know if they spell whisky with an e or not. EDIT: Oh.... with an E. Disapointing. So only American style or triple distilled Irish style.
    EDIT2: The KS is now live. The deluxe pricing seems to only work if you want metal coins.... unless I have misunderstood. I think they need ot be clearer over what - if anything - is KS exclusive.

    I asked a drinks industry guy what he thought and he said “Had another look through the page. The spelled Distil wrong. Lots of boardgame people complementing the mechanic, no drinks people quoted as saying they nailed the theme 🙂
    I expect it will be an excellent boardgame that I would get annoyed about due to mechanics which are 'not how that works in the real world'. I'm scared to watch a playthrough :)”

      I am not a distiller but think the theme is pretty well implemented given it is only a board game. I was actually surprised at how well the actual distilling, aging and selling process was worked into the game. Give it a play on Tabletop Simulator and decide for yourself. :-) Slainte mhath!
