well, differnt values affect cooling (case design, quality of fans, number of components inside the case etc). Gamers nexus showed that for example half an inch of mesh on the front can make quite the crucial difference when it comes to thermo throttleing of GPU for example. So if you have a bunch of cables hanging infront of a fan (hindering airflow) or have them neatly tucked away, if makes a difference of about 1-2C°. Which can be the differecne between GPU/CPU throttleing or not under the right conditions.
I think this was a great video. Not only did it tell you how to cable manage, but in a way it gave steps on how to actually build a computer with what cords to start with first to better cable manage. Good work!
imagine having 2 hue+'s with 6 led strips and 2 aer fans and a kraken x62 cooler and 2 ssd's and 2 hdd's and a nxzt usb hub in a S340 elite case.. (not a lot of space) really hard to cable management, but i tried and it looks just ok :P
Nice to see a realistic looks at cables and management of them. All I ever see on youtube are these builds that look like there are no cables at all. Not saying a build with hidden cables is bad at all but for the average builder is unrealistic
I recommend buying "flush cutters" for your zip ties. I use them every day for my job so they don't scratch and create a smooth surface with nothing sticking out.
Very good work Dimitri. I am looking forward to building my first pc in the future, once gpu and memory prices go down. Cable management seems to be the most daunting part of pc building and I appreciate the informative video giving some well thought insight. I am most definitely looking forward to the $40 case cable management video. Keep up the hella good work!!
Instead of zip ties buy a bunch of cheap velcro cable ties. You can get 100 for about $8 off Amazon (with Prime shipping) and you can cut them up to make quick, clean, re-usable cable mounting points all over your case. Also, crafters tip: Need a cable mounting point somewhere the case manufacturer didn't think of? Velcro tie + hot glue.
Because somebody designed the first motherboard to function very well and people are too lazy to reimagine the entire circuit structure just to move some key components around
Also, not every case has that rear big cut, in some cases if you want to use cooler with a backplate, you must take your mobo out, place the backplate (and cooler) and then put it back. Having a power connector on the rear would render such board unusable with this sort of cases.
@@Morpheus-pt3wq then they just make an option.. If you want it on the top you choose that, if you want it on the back you choose that. It's that simple.

Thanks for the video. I was actually looking at individually sleeved cables when the notification for this video came up. When I first decided I wanted to build a PC, I was a bit intimidated by cables and cable management. Now I'm looking forward to it as I prepare for my first ever build.
These recent "Guide" videos you've done are great, but all the cable management videos are always on Mid or Full Size ATX cases and I would personally find it far more informative if you could do a Mini ITX cable management Tips, in a case like the Cougar QBX or the NCASE M1 for example. You can use the lips at the edges of the case to conceal any excessive length of cables you have. As for the front panel, sometimes you can unplug the whole cable for something you might not be using at all, e.g. audio. I did cablemanagement in a $40 case not too long ago... Did a pretty good job exept that the 24pin was just too thick to be able to close the case properly... One big tip if you try to do some good cablemanagement in cheap cases look first before you route any cables. You got too check EVERYTHING... (Like the thickness of the rear side panel, where the cutouts are for the cpu power cable (maybe you'll need to route your cables before installing the motherboard)...) It's really a big puzzle and not that easy... Oh, and don't forget that cheap cases have sharp edges... 😑
Something I recently learned at my internship is to braid all the small case cables.. and I must say that I think that that is a really good idea/ tip. :)
5:52 you talk about the GPU cable and making sure it's tight so it doesn't droop. But moving it up one more hole in the mobo panel would achieve both of those things. Also it would hide the cable much better with it being more in profile with the videocard.

Someone did a test and he had to fill a pc with cardboards to make a 3 degrees different! So you only need cable management so when you’ll need to clean it, as it will have less dust.
not seeing a problem doesn't mean it's not here. Not cleaning ""may"" lead to some failures, but hey you do want you want, we're not paying for your hardware
I had a laptop I never cleaned in the almost-decade of operation I've had it, and at its worst I was unable to get anywhere past 2 gigahertz (with its max being 2.3). I replaced the fan since it was too dirty to bother with and cleaned the heat sink, suddenly, my machine was able to run at nearly full speed. Cleanliness _does_ matter in certain cases.
If you have a gaming computer that you've built yourself, you most certainly, don't have any ladies coming over to your place. May be the pizza guy every once in a while to deliver your late night gamer boy meal but other than that no way lmao.
great work. Saved this so when I finally get to cable managing my first PC I will take a look and follow your tips. I got an Inwin 101 C. A bit tight in the back but I just have to take some time once I get all the components left. AKA 2080 Ti
Oh well, I have the obsidian 500D as well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that don't use the cable cover that originally comes with the case at the back (the one that hides the io cables). I actually had a bigger challenge 'cause I have 3 drives, 2 hdd and 1 ssd, and corsair LL100 rgb fans. Those power sata cable were designed by the devil, it was quite hard to work with them. I bought a new fully modular psu and I'm thinking in resellng it cause I don't want to deal with that cable management nightmare again.
hello there, man, i love your production videos,I see them a little while ago and, i love all of them. the edition, the position of the cameras, great work in that. really, congrats greetings from Argentina, (Espero se entienda mi ingles :v)
5:49 I would have taken the opening above, put the black-white SATA-cable (?) first, then the PCIe and the mainboard cable above that. So everything holds each other. ;-)
Motherboard can't be vertically now. It has to be horizontally because of the big size of GPU and the at length can make damage. Don't think so? Fine! Also did you made the test of how the cable will change anything in your existence? When I had mining rigs I made experience, test to cool down that crazy heat I was subjected to like with a powerful blower I made. If it was not directly on the cards it was not cooling down tbe freaking thing anymore. I think the cables has a psychological visual effect more than anything.
How did I miss this video. Oh. Ya. My dad passed. And things came to a halt for me at this time. Dmitry you and I are much alike when it comes to our cable management. Couldn't have done this tutorial any better. Great Video. It's inspiring enough to give people the confidence to help themselves in these situations. Good Job my friend. I have a cable management video on how I did mine as well. Just click on my name and look for cable management video.
man thank you! my windows 7 looks great! it was missing a side pannel so this makes it look neat! im using a cardboard wall for it because i dont know why
Ooooo one thing you missed that I didn't even think about when I bought them is how much extra cable I'm going to have with custom extensions. My cable routing is nice for how much cables are there in such a restrictive case like the s340 elite (its a simple bare minimum type case) but right in front of the psu is a rats nest and there is really nothing I can do about it. I've been considering actually cutting and removing some of the cable length out of the cables but then the power supply with be useless without the extensions.
I have built many pcs im my days. But my freshly built system is a challenge. Currently using it after fresh build no panels, procrastinating doing the cable management on it has 8fans with splitters plus rgb splitters 2x mechanical hardrives and a gpu that eats up all the space under the psu all in a Asus Ap201 so kinda see threw. Like to see you try and cable manage it lol.
Its just so it looks better, and there isnt more dust all over the place, if there is space the air will flow, having some cables around wont do anything for the performance. Still its a nice thing to do, i even manage my PC, monitor, etc cables around the desk.
Dimitri you should definitely become a cable management guru cause your cable-management is that of a pro and very commendable! I have the Fractal Design Focus G Mini, which is a micro-atx case, and is very lacking in cable-management options. I will definitely check out your upcoming budget case cable management video cause I struggle with how to hide my cables in this case. It is a nice case and good for the price but doesn't have many options in terms of cable management. So I will definitely be redoing my cables and attempt to follow this video guide. Thanks for the help and looking forward to the next video!
case manufacturers should start including modular cables for all the case stuff. so that you can disconnect those you don't use, or replace them with your own DYI cables with the right length and/or sleewing
I kinda like the look of wires. All messy tho I like the industrial kind of look... I some times just stare at the inside of my computer and admire how cool it looks
Right now I own an ITX rig with a GPU that uses 1-8pin connector and only one sata SSD. For my next build I hope nvidia 2000 series can provide a better performing card than a 1060 that can only be fed with the pci lane; and I will be replacing my sata ssd for a m.2. with these upgrades... Cable management will be much more satisfying :)
you can put the gpu cable in the same hole as the 24 pins cable and put im right under the weight of the 24pin, this way the 8 pin cable look like an extention of the gpu !

Someone did a test and he had to fill a pc with cardboards to make a 3 degrees different! So you only need cable management so when you’ll need to clean it, as it will have less dust.
Why did this create a urge inside me to clean my PC x)
not seeing a problem doesn't mean it's not here. Not cleaning ""may"" lead to some failures, but hey you do want you want, we're not paying for your hardware
WarmSoftKitty talk about cheap for yours maybe
I had a laptop I never cleaned in the almost-decade of operation I've had it, and at its worst I was unable to get anywhere past 2 gigahertz (with its max being 2.3). I replaced the fan since it was too dirty to bother with and cleaned the heat sink, suddenly, my machine was able to run at nearly full speed. Cleanliness _does_ matter in certain cases.
The 500D!!!!! Cant wait for the release!!
I really think that NZXT makes the best value cases that also look really nice.
AKA 2080 Ti
there way better people who know how to do cable management than listening to a product reviewer channel.
i will definitly take your tips to my Next Gaming rig at my work :)
Thanks for this video HardwareCanucks!
hello there, man, i love your production videos,I see them a little while ago and, i love all of them. the edition, the position of the cameras, great work in that. really, congrats
greetings from Argentina,
(Espero se entienda mi ingles :v)
Nice Vid, I'm still putting on hold the day i need to face myself :( with the back of my rig.
I think the cables has a psychological visual effect more than anything.
as a cable "MASTER" building computers since the 90's this is a passable job, for the novice that is
3:00 you dont need to use the hd audio cable unless you want the mic and headphone jack on front panel
Just finished building my first PC 3 days ago, then you release this video lmao. I did pretty good on the cable management anyway though haha
Thanks, this was very helpful. I have a high-end case, but still have a lot of trouble keeping the small fan/rgb cables managed nicely.
man thank you! my windows 7 looks great! it was missing a side pannel so this makes it look neat! im using a cardboard wall for it because i dont know why
@hardwarecanuks, Aloha Dimitri, what's the name and model of your test bench shown on 9:47? Thanks
My personal tip: Shove everything into the back and dominate the cables with your shear might as you seal them away in their tomb in the side panel.
i have no idea why i was compelled to watch this, i didnt even build my computer, i bought it off of amazon XD
It really is time that the manufacturers made an all in one plug for the i/o cables ie Power, Reset HD light etc.
case manufacturers should start including modular cables for all the case stuff. so that you can disconnect those you don't use, or replace them with your own DYI cables with the right length and/or sleewing
I was going to die but I wouldn't know it, you earned my respect.
Please do more videos like this. And more ground-up PC builds, custom loops etc.
mmmmmmmmmmmm my lady loved the wrapping of the cables and she stroked the mastery of the cables bound together
Good video!
you can put the gpu cable in the same hole as the 24 pins cable and put im right under the weight of the 24pin, this way the 8 pin cable look like an extention of the gpu !
