Wow, you're an excellent artist, a special one. In some days my first profesional colored pencils will arrive, and I'm already searching for information. I draw since I was a child and this is a big step for me. Your artworks impressed me. Congrats! And now you have a new subscriber.
The most in depth, clear, easy to understand video I have seen so far for beginner colorists. thank you so much for taking the time to do this for us, it's just wonderful. Blessings from Elise Mitton, a 75 year old beginner - I found Adult colouring books during Covid which lasted on and off for almost 2 years here in Melbourne, Australia and have done mainly Mandalas with markers and gel pens, (a few with coloured pencils) which I find is like a meditation but lately I am interested in taking a step further, hoping I have the patience and my arthritic hands can cope, lol, to do more in depth colouring with coloured pencils. So grateful to have found you.
Thank you for your thoughtful message. I have a coloring book with explanations of colored pencil techniques. It's titled 'how to color like an artist. Perhaps it will become a good transition for you 😁 here's the link amzn.to/3Skn3Hv
I have to say this is a very useful guide for beginning artists that should probably be taught as early as often as possible in any art class I would not call it a tutorial… I don’t think this gave you any information on how to use colored pencils, but instead provided foundation from which to begin Focusing on materials and aspects of color theory are very useful tools …. But it was very limited in discussing how to go about coloring and shading certain areas or things There was this young man I knew many years ago from the Philippines, who was an amazing colored pencil artist, and I loved his work so much . Before he died and a very young age, I always wanted to know his method of how he is coloring objects that don’t exist in this world. He has no reference . No photo to go off of. But his objects look so real, and yet these are things that did not exist in this world that he created from his mind and colored so spectacularly.. This is what I was hoping to get from this video…. I want to see what I’m missing in my art. Nonetheless, this is brilliant and very well done .
Thank you so much for this video. You are wonderful at explaining things. I've just started adult coloring for therapy and I also happen to be a perfectionist, so thank you for helping me create pages that don't make me feel like a failure and quit.
What a great wonderful, extensive overview if your skills and knowledge and so so helpful. I will save this video and keep re running it as i progress along. You packed in so much i could not retainit all but saving the vlog will be an archival treasure, thank you. 🇨🇦🌹

This is the most comprehensive video on youtube on this subject. I don't know how this does not pop up first when anyone types in anything about colored pencil. I found this just by chance and I am glad that I did. Paper, Lightfastness and Fixative are probably the major things everyone wants to know about. This video is a 38 minute masterclass really. I noticed you were using copics for part of your work. I thought all Copic markers were not lightfast? Is there a version of copic that is? If so, that would be awesome. Again thank you for this video. It is incredible. Just so you understand the person that is commenting here. i have drawn on printer paper, and Strathmore fine tooth sketch and probably with pencils that are not lightfast and thinking about everything i would need to learn to then make new art and also to then "rebuild" old art on better surfaces drives me insane haha.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed this video. I used markers by w&n that were discontinued. Many of them are similar and I usually start with the light fastness charts to determine if I want to buy them or not. I don't know much about copic besides the fact that artists love those. ☺️ Happy drawing!
I recently began drawing, mostly as a hobby in my free time, but looking at your amazing video and otherworldly creations, a part of me feels like stopping, because I probably can never match this level of creativity and talent. It both motivates me and demotivates me at the same time. I wish I could go back in time 25 years ago, when I was still very young, so that I can develop the skills already back then. Having said that, the video is perfect, very helpful and informative, thank you so much for making it!
That's very nice of you to say and I can tell you that it's one of my regrets that I didn't do art as a child or teenager and began drawing in college after getting my first degree in a totally different profession. So start wherever you are. It does take time and effort but I think it's much easier to find the education you want to get today as opposed to what was available 25 years ago. So good luck! It's totally possible 😊🌾
