Storytime:
Today I was cleaning my room looking for some color pencils (Crayola twistable) so I went to this shoe box in my room where I put my color pencils i was getting some when I find this color pencil that had the word "PRISMACOLOR" in it so I was like "I bet it's a fake prismacolor" since I have never had prismacolors I found another one and decided to make a test so I swatched it and it was so pigmented so i was like "Omg is this actually a prismacolor?" So I kept looking for more and found 18 in total turns out they were my sister's but she moved out of the house so I kept them and I'm only missing 6 since she had 24

This is THE BEST watercolour video I ve ever seen. SO much information. Very generous of her. And the techniques she shows are amazing
And here was me thinking all I needed was blank paper from B&M and some crayola pencils 😂
Edit: OMG thx for the likes, I've never had this many before!
You can get started with anything 🥰
But that really is all you need. You can draw with just a sharp rock on a smooth rock when it comes down to it (we did in fact do this tens of thousands of years ago when we were just cavemen). Technique and creativity will always be the most important thing for an artist to have.
I use Crayola Pencils and their Crayons. (I love the feel of crayons on the paper.) I only draw simple things. (I am not even close to Kirsty.) But I get really nice results for the coloring part with Crayola. I also just bought some "Cezanne" 120. We'll see! All you really do need is some paper and Crayola.
My dear......it's MUCH more complex than that!! I think we should go back to the days of wax crayons and that awful nasty rough 'children's' colouring paper!! Things were much easier then.....😊😊

Amazing tutorial, love that you made a step by step to illustrate the techniques at the end. I've never used solvent before, now I can't wait to try 🤩
You have an incredible talent. Thanks for sharing.
Some years ago I got the 36 pack of polychromos without doing any research. Now, I found what I actually like to draw and that is mostly portraits. I am going to get prismacolors but right now There are some more serious things going on in the World. I want them for the smooth blending but while I was watching this video I realized that I was making some mistake when using solvent. Thank you for all the videos you make I really enjoy them and I also learn a lot from them.
polychromos will do just fine, some artists even quit prisma to go with polychromos for portraits ;)
Wow you just showed me 10x more techniques and methods in a far more intuitive way than I have learned in 2 semesters of art classes. Why have I literally never heard of solvent until now, that's so useful. Thank you
Loved all the tips and tricks! Just gonna add a quick one as well in terms of archival (this goes with any media). Now keep in mind I don't sell my artwork, but I do this method to preserve it for my own sake.
Whenever I finish a drawing, I personally do a spray coating overtop of it FOR A FEW REASONS:
* preserves the vibrancy of the colors
* prevents the paper from yellowing overtime
* especially useful for when you're working with graphite: I find that no matter how much you brush off your finished piece, it will smudge in your sketchbook against the opposite side of the paper. Coating it will keep the graphite in place.
* sometimes a specific coating (like high-gloss) can really bring out the colors in some drawings. Found this to be the case with watercolors.
Now there are a few options in terms of coating, and you kind of just have to play around with it to find out what works with you and your media. Some ones I've used in the past:
**Workable fixative** great all-purpose and forgiving coating for dry-media. I use this mostly for my sketchbooks. It prevents yellowing, smudging and wrinkling without adding a noticeable "finish". It's also one of the only coatings you can actual remove (with like, an eraser)
* matte finish is nice sometimes for graphite, because graphite just by itself is quite reflective. It kind of helps with the viewing angles of the drawing
* kamar varnish - useful for "wet" media like watercolor, acrylic, oil, etc
* clear coat, semi-clear, acrylic clear, and alike are all useful for boosting the saturation and depth of your colors (think of a glossy professional photo vs matte). I REALLY don't use it often to be completely honest, but I do use it at times for specific media.
Thank you!! This is such an incredibly helpful tutorial!! ❤ thank you for sharing this free on your UA-cam. We're a homeschooling family and we love to do art. So far, no color pencils since they don't look as nicely as the paintings... but now you convinced me to get a solvent, white pencils and an exacto knife!! Looks like we're going to be learning how to properly color with color pencils!!

Don't give up.
Parents aren’t always right, you can definitely make a living from art if you work hard and learn about how to grow an art business. These times are very different compared to when your parents were younger, when it was harder to make a living as an artist. But time’s have changed and there is so much opportunity out there to create a living from your passion nowadays. Your parents probably just don’t understand and maybe if you learn about how you could make money you could educate and persuade them. I actually made a recent video on 15 ways to make money from art 🥰
Kirsty is spot on there, as her mum I was very dubious at first when she told her dad and myself that she wanted to make a living out of art, I thought how is she going to manage that!! She did work to help fund her art channel at first until she became self sufficient and could start to make a good living from art. She certainly proved me wrong, and I have told her this. Her dad and I are incredibly proud of her and everything that she has achieved, she has worked extremely hard over the last 5 years. Never give up on your dreams and hopefully one day your mom might change her opinions, good luck 👍😊
It's so fucking true of our world and our lives!) Not everybody can make money with this profession. Maybe your parents are normal and they wish you a good life with normal MONEY !))
