Ok, first time knowing about this. Not even exaggerating, this could be a milestone of gaming and art, in history. The catalyzing effect is incredible.
The fact that a game can be crowdsourced and built from nothing to full scale universe is incredible and almost reminds me of something akin to Inception, the Matrix (except controlled by us rather than machines) or Ready Player One. There's a touch of Schenectady NY (the Charlie Kaufman movie) in here too. Or to ask a more contemporary, relevant pop culture question: when we all fall asleep, where do we go?

For anyone who still doesn't know what Dreams is.. it's basicially an engine in which you can create anything you can possibly imagine with very small limitation.. most of the time it's your own imagniation. So you can create your own games, films, art, music & anything in between and beyond or you can play the stuff that others made and there are some indie worthy titles already after 1 year.. a few people aim for making triple A games! Not a single one should miss out on this masterpiece, especially when you are creative =) I do make videos about Dreams if you would like to learn more about it!
It's has a huge limitation if what you're imagining is a complex game. For example, you can probably create an existing character like Dante from Devil May Cry, and animate him with some of the same moves, but you can't then fit in multiple enemies with all their battle animations.
*Simon Cardy.* That’s who did this review and IGN really needs to start putting the reviewer’s names in the video title or we’ll never break past generalizing all IGN reviews. Great review, Simon!
@@fiveleafclover6077 Yeah, we saw it there but it’s cause we are looking. Your average IGN hater isn’t looking in the description and may not even have the capacity to understand the concept of one reviewers opinion.
GeraBlitZ because he wasn’t going off topic and was giving an in-depth analysis as to what the game is and could/will be in the future. Too often do you see games journalists comparing games to each other and just copying 80% of the original review and just re-naming the subjects of the new game. Example: “The surge is like dark souls for cyberpunk fans, the game mechanics follow the same rules of dark souls where you pick your battles carefully because its brutal game design makes it so you can’t rush the game as you learn all the enemies mechanics before moving on. The rest points are also like dark souls where you will respawn and restock your healing items and just like dark souls doing so will make the enemies respawn” Journalists that do that are shitty, they would never talk about the unique aspect of aiming for specific parts of other mechs to break off to use for your own or how in depth the customization of the game goes. This reporter talked about both the gameplay Dreams creates for you, what you can create with the tools given, it’s limits and capabilities, the making of new developers and studio teams etc. Thats really important to point out about this game because that’s the stuff that will draw in people that like this style of gaming where everyone can show their skills in their unique ways. Just like how Minecraft blew up to being one of the biggest video games in history offering no limits to those who made their own mods for anything, or even vanilla creations that have been made in the game. This journalist could have just called it Minecraft 2 HD and said Minecraft 40x like other journalists say “Souls-like” in their works comparing the 2 games.
@Mr. Flash You can create your very own games within a game. Its a very interesting concept but I don't think I'll buy it any time soon because I'm not into sandbox games, maybe in the future.
One of my favorite video on what Dreams is and the potential. In my eyes Dreams will inevitably become popular, it's loved by most who even understand just a fraction of what Dreams is. I believe that speaks volumes, when psvr and multiplayer releases there will be no stopping this game popularity, I already see it coming to PS5 its a no Brainer, and if the claims of it coming to PC is true, we have another minecraft level of popularity on our hands.
I really can't see this game living up to the hype, because if it does it actually would change gaming forever. I wouldn't agree with your statement about minecraft level of popularity. If this actually lives up to the hype, it will by far exceed minecraft's popularity and could exceed the popularity of consoles themselves. And that is why I just don't see this game being that deep, it still seems too early.

How do you even rate something that doesnt have anything to compare it to? Dreams is unique. Score for this game is meaningless, like ashtray on a motorcycle.
The review fails to mention the sound tools, and this is a major oversight. Inside Dreams is a full digital audio workstation complete with pro features like piano roll. You can play the controller like an instrument. The are thousands of instruments, and sound samples. You can even create your own by recording. This allows anyone to make their own music and sound effects from scratch. As an example, I have published a set of 11 zombie sounds that I created with nothing other than my mouth and the PS4 camera mic. These are sounds that have been used in hundreds of creations already.
I urge any new players to stick with the motion controller for a couple of days. It's hard at first, but becomes second nature after that, and everything you play on day one was made that way. Also, IGN - Best review you've put out in a while. Well done.
2 things, in my opinion: 1) Only if that game has online connectivity so you can play other people’s games. (Just like Dreams and Little Big Planet) 2) For every great game you’ll play, you encounter 1,000 turds. That was my experience with LBP at least.
@@victorfernandes83 Play the game before you call it poor little games. Most of the games on there are better than some triple a games, and most indie games.
This can - and likely will - change gaming forever. Sony should make this their main game until Last of Us Part II. Imagine the potential for PS5, too, with RTX and 120FPS and the DualShock 5 having biometric sensors... could be insane to have a real-time heart rate monitor in Dreams.

So you can create your own games, films, art, music & anything in between and beyond or you can play the stuff that others made and there are some indie worthy titles already after 1 year.. a few people aim for making triple A games! Not a single one should miss out on this masterpiece, especially when you are creative =)
I do make videos about Dreams if you would like to learn more about it!
Subbed to your channel, I've been interested in dreams since day one the toolset is astounding. I really really want to make music with it

So its Garry's mod for playstation?
It's has a huge limitation if what you're imagining is a complex game. For example, you can probably create an existing character like Dante from Devil May Cry, and animate him with some of the same moves, but you can't then fit in multiple enemies with all their battle animations.
@@gwehnuhman7813 the limitations arent within the engine itself it's in the hardware.
Come back to this, it’s changed so much
It deserves a 2022 review. The community has made some amazing things

@@gerablitz I think the reviewer probably said a thousand words in this review, and he was non stop talking about the game, that's something
The rest points are also like dark souls where you will respawn and restock your healing items and just like dark souls doing so will make the enemies respawn”
Journalists that do that are shitty, they would never talk about the unique aspect of aiming for specific parts of other mechs to break off to use for your own or how in depth the customization of the game goes.

@Mr. Flash But it is interesting and revolutionary, despite you liking it or not. Its probably one of the biggest sandbox games yet.
@Mr. Flash Its something new and unique, a big sandbox game where you can create games within it, that's why I say that Its interesting.
@Mr. Flash Please define "incredible" from your perspective
Project Genesis one of the things I loved most is how someone recreated Dead Space in this.

My most anticipated game of this year by far.
