I’m so glad you made this video, I’ve been wondering if it was fixed!!! I have camera acquisition syndrome (clinical diagnoses 😉😂) and every time I pick one up in the store or even a thrift store I stop myself because about half the people say it over exposes! Pretty bad when I’m getting better shots out of a sun 660 that’s about 40 years old than this year old camera!!!
Agreed!
I really think the shots are perfectly fine. Sure the whites are blown out on a bright sunny day but when you compare it to that Burger King Polaroid the shadows are totally underexposed. So what’s the point in complaining about overexposed whites but underexposed blacks are fine? Really can’t understand that harsh verdict 🤷🏻♂️
The main problem is that you should not have to underexpose by 1 stop to get the image right. At the same time, I have almost the same problem on my Instax SQ6 on bright sunny days (and the Instax Square film has the disadvantage of having higher contrast), so it's not just a Polaroid Now+ problem.
@@GuillaumeB7 thing is, it is a high ISO film, so you have to have that in mind. Not only when shooting Polaroid, but when shooting any type of film. I really don’t have those issues with my cam. I never use the exposure compensation dail and it looks fine. But I know when it’s bright sunny day, I should not shoot white walls, but that goes even for the SX70. And when shooting film you always go for overexposure instead of underexposure. In the end it’s a matter of taste. When you prefer images where there are no informations in the darks, that’s ok, but judging a camera, when it really comes to personal taste, is really the same thing that the other guy did with the Lomo Square Glass. That is really not an unbaised review
I agree. It’s a bit of a “lomographic” preference. Some people actually want a bit of difficulty and inconsistency. The viewfinder doesn’t even have a parallax grid. It’s like Polaroid wants these to be imperfect. It’s kind of like buying a lensbaby and complaining that it’s not good enough to capture landscapes. It’s just a wrong use case.
Great video per usual my dude! You’re very welcome for the filters + the extra set for the giveaway! Thanks a ton for the shoutout! Bummer to see that the Now+ still sucks. I was still in the fence about getting it but after this video it’s going to be a hard pass for me. Thanks for saving me the money 👍🏽 Cheers!
Yes thank you so much! Major bummer about this camera! Get yourself a onestep2 or onestep+
I have a Polaroid Now (nonplus) and so far, it’s been a great camera. I’m only a beginner as far as film cameras go, but I feel like I’m learning how to get solid photos. My mom has the 632cl she had back in high school, and she’s been walking me through some of the common mistakes, like lighting and focus. I was tempted to get the now plus, because of the app and such, but seeing how those photos came out… just no.
Recently I read Polaroid had calibrated the light meter on the i2 using faulty film that had a lower than normal ISO. Now they discovered that error they are preparing a firmware upgrade to recalibrate the light meter to measure properly for 640 film. I wonder if that’s what they did for the Now+.
that's pretty sad that they haven't updated or fixed the issues that are causing the problems for this iteration of cameras. But at least thanks to Chris we don't have to wonder if it still sucks lol
If only they would!
I think it's all about the light meter of these cameras and the fact that these films have a very little dynamic range (someone says 6 stops).
In high contrast scenes it's very easy to clip highlights or shadows.
Plus, the consistency between film batches is still not there, that some batches are way more contrasty and I some I also notice different exposure latitude plus shifts in color (that's quite common for us from the Impossible days)
I make Tours with Polaroid cameras in Italy and I see the results that hundreds of Polaroid films deliver in a bunch of different conditions. We use Polaroid 600 cameras. What I can say from my experience is that films are always a variable (right now I'm using the 05/2022 film batch and it's insanely contrasty, very little dynamic range) and light meters of these cameras are everything but precise, usually the more even the light in the scene the better and smaller informations (like the text on the facade of the building) are very hard to render.
Great channel Chris!
Keep rocking!
Sto quindi pensando a Polaroid Now, Now+ o Fujifilm Instax 300 o Square... Cosa mi consigli? Ti ringrazio 🙏🏼
P.s: la mia idea originale era di prendere la Now+, ma c'è il discorso dell'esposizione a volte eccessiva...
@@matteobusatto9758 la risposta è sempre, dipende.
Probabilmente prenderei Fujifilm Square, tipo SQ6.
@@polastories gentilissimo, grazie mille!
I got the sun 660 autofocus original with the golden circle this model is amazing and even on a sunny day it isnt red and it does a pretty fantastic job. The 80s ones work better 14:51
I agree, i have the 660 autofocus and never have to mess with the light meter, that camera has spot-on exposure
My impulse takes amazing pictures. The plus I have is great for long exposures, experimental pics or with flash. Just crazy you can get an impulse for $20 lol
I have a OneStep+ and have lost countless hours (and money on film) figuring out if it's me or the camera. Overexposed is the main culprit, no matter the sun, weather, temperature. Bought a Lomo Instant Square and looking forward to trying out that glass eye 👁
You mean the NOW+ ?
No problems with my OneStep+. Just looking forward to using it again.
BTW. I still don't understand why Polaroid don't put any Lens Cap into the box...
There is one with the NOW+
I can see why you’re disappointed in the camera, although Polaroid also branded it was made for “experimentation” (interpret that how you will). For me, It’s more of a tripod + fiddle-with-the-settings camera than the standard Now. Indoors it’s worked fine for me too, but outside and in Point & Shoot conditions, I would go for a different camera purely because the Now + wasn’t really made for those situations. Cool video, keep up the good work 👍
Is the Now better for point and shoot? I bought that one instead of the Now+ because of this video and the comments...
@@matteobusatto9758 yeah like I said the Now+ is more of a smack-on-a-tripod, open-the-app, experiment camera. If you’re looking for a point and shoot experience then the original Now is your go-to.
Sold Now+ after previous videos. Now - own Now, and I'm happy :)
Don't need any bluetooth features in a film camera.
The manual mode seemed like a good idea though.
i have it for one week now - see diffrence between shooting throug app and normal. i have nice resoults throug app
@@GuillaumeB7 don't like these new features. Expect type-c sometimes. And no more :)
@@jasosik Just want to point and shoot :)
Hi guys but do you ever tried to use the exposure compensation? Basically by holding the flash button
Thank you Chris for making this extra effort. I also have the blue-gray Now+ from when it was released. It's unfortunate to see that no solution came to the overexposure problem with the later production. My unit has been in a display case for quite some time. Indoor with flash or on a tripod during long exposures the camera is usable. Have thought of adding a permanent ND filter for outdoor shooting but gave up the idea. Note: the Go also released that year handles outdoor exposures better, but indoor is a mixed bag.
Ohh the ND is a nice trick. I may make another video about testing that 🤔
@@JustAnotherChris Problem is the position of the light meter of the camera. It requires to make a round hole in the filter. Would be easier in a plastic ND filter.
Hi guys but do you ever tried to use the exposure compensation? Basically by holding the flash button
7:45 - in the top corner. Can you see the cracks? Looks kind of like a spider web - I've got the same issue sometimes - what is it? Is it from me grabbing the picture too early?
Polaroids lovely quality control issues
@@JustAnotherChris But is it? I've reached out the support, they told me to be more careful with the film - I will try and let you know.. have to just buy yet another pack of film.
BTW, love your content!
Trust me it’s them. Go look at their instagram page you see that they have posted photos from their brand new david Bowie frames with that issue. They’re unfortunately just telling us it’s our “issue” that we are doing something wrong when in fact it’s not us
Great video as always, loved the photos locations! Anxious to see the next ones, hugs from your fan in Brazil
Thank you!
I agree, I still prefer the One Step!!! More because of the manual focus!!!
Onestep2 and onestep+ are killer!!
Exactly, out of one pack you get one maaaaybe two decent shots
Yup!! Not cool
I bought the now plus when it came out and never even fished a pack of film on it :(( do you think it would be worth getting back into??
Not with the now plus unless you use the app to shoot in manual mode
Thank you so much for your video! Thought I was the only one! I just bought my camera a month ago!!! On darker complexion we look like a shadow or a stain on the caption! I’m so disappointed! They really just rushed everything and didn’t improve anything! DO NOT BUT THAT ONE!
I did the same think you did. I bought the One Step + when it first came out and it created overexposed photos. I then bought another one a month ago, thinking they *must* have fixed that issue. I was wrong...it overexposes, too. I will use my older model, which is much more reliable.
You mean the NOW+ ??
I remember seeing a comment on your previous video that the cameras shutter button is like those on a point and shoot where you had to focus it first
do you know anything about this?
I’ll stick with my Supercolor 635CL.
Just ordered the now + after watching both of your videos abt it. I probably will regret it, but something is telling me, i‘ll be lucky and not bothered with my shots. I hope Im not wrong
Let me know how that turns out!!
Hey how did it go? I’m on the fence of getting one
@@javierx7210 my pictures do not come out overexposed at all. When im outside, i mostly put it to underexposed mode, just to make sure. And indoors i always used the flash. Thats all i can tell you. Im happy with the now +
@@sergengozcu cool! 💪🏼will it turn over exposed if you leave the auto exposure setting?
@@matteobusatto9758 I just got it and I find that all my photos are kinda underexposed, haven't done many outside during the day but indoor shots even with lots of outside and indoor light always come out a little dark, maybe it's because of the cold weather
In your Burger King shot at 7:52, I actually find that your photo is a bit underexposed 😅
Half of your head is close to lost in the shadow.
I think you missed the point of the comparison. I was comparing the highlights. Utilizing the same settings in the same lighting conditions.
Had this a few weeks and so disappointed with it, the inconsistency is unreal. Waste of time on a family holiday. Wish I could return it
Oh you can definitely return it AND definitely reach out to polaroid and let them know
@@JustAnotherChris I think I will do so. I bought stacks of film too. Such a waste
Let them know and they will probably replace at least 1 pack of film. That’s what they did for me at least
Do you have any tips for avoiding the artifacts displayed in the top left of tje frames around 8:24? I've been in contact with Polaroid about these and wondering if it's a film issue or camera issue! You've earned a sub today, really enjoy your videos
It was a quality control problem they had. They blamed us that it was our cameras that was doing it. yet randomly it stopped doing it in their next batch of film.
@@JustAnotherChris Ah cool! Yes I was told to not shake the frames after they're ejected! Which I knew not to do 😂 thanks for the reply, hopefully whatever packs I get next are fixed!
I haven’t seen the issue in a while so I think we are good
I got back into film photography after many years. I've shot many cameras. The oldest camera is from 1917. I had to have adapters made to use 120 film. I really wanted to get into Polaroid because my parents had one and I remember the photos being pretty good, and who doesn't like instant gratification. I now have 3 older Polaroid cameras, and have not gotten a decently exposed or focused photo out of any of them. I've gotten tack sharp and perfectly exposed shots out of the 1917 camera and my Lubitel 2 cameras, but never the Polaroids. I have half a pack in 2 of them, and that's probably where they'll stay. So disappointing! The instax isn't much better. Maybe I'm just to demanding. Maybe I'm just like my father, to bold. Lol
Great informative video, thanks.
Well I’m glad I can help feed the addiction! Haha
I did not have a single problem with my one+ and I love it
Onestep+ is great however this video is about the NOW+ which isn’t great.
@@JustAnotherChris yeah sorry! I meant the Now+ .
I’ve had this issue too, but I’m really trying to maximize my camera since it was a gift. Polaroid also sent me a replacement and it hasn’t changed anything. Do you have any tips on how to overcome the exposure issues/overcoming the problems that haven’t been resolved?
Unfortunately there’s nothing that can be fine. Polaroid knows this and won’t do anything about it.
How about Fujifilm Instax 300 Wide? Disregarding wide aspect picture quality? I am picking better 300 wide or Polaroid one step 2. What's your recommendation?
It’s like comparing apples and oranges. Maybe this will help you. Polaroid Vs Instax....Which one is ACTUALLY the best??
ua-cam.com/video/Z2PNtfrfNDs/v-deo.html
Polaroid only wants to focus in weird expensives speakers lol
Sadly this is becoming true
Hi Chris, i have some Trouble with my sx 70 Sonar Onestep. Everry time when i push a film in, the camara starts to slide Out everry picture. Have you any idear whats happend with the camara? Thanks and greetings from Germany. Have a nice Christmas.
Hello, can you write , please , in what settings you did the best photos on this camera ?
I’m black so will the over exposure just make me look lite skin? 😳
I wish I watched your videos earlier. All the problems you mentioned are there. One or two photos out of 8 turn out great, just like you mentioned. The rest of them... make me angry 😅. It's a bummer. Anybody wanna buy it from me 🤔😂?
I got a polaroid now I really wanted a one step+ but it was hard to find now
I'm here wondering if I should buy one for $44.99 on clearance at Target.
Nah I wouldn’t
Hi Chris, i love your polariod shooting video and bought a onestep plus for my first polariod cam!
The filter you have shown on this clip is amazing but i couldn't find it on official website or Amazon.
Is it a new product? Where can i find it🙏? Appreciated if you can let me know🙇♂️
It came out a few years ago. I would search eBay
6:48 why does that picture have a spiderweb on the top left? I have the same problem with some of my photos
Polaroids epic quality control
Fully agree. So hard to shoot, even in manual mode it sucks. FULL STOP.
Hi! Really love your videos!! I wanted to see something real quick. I purchased the OneStep+ a few months ago, super excited! But once I got my pack and tried to shoot, it just stops halfway through. I tried to fix the thing that pushes the photo out and clean out the rollers but it’s no use. Would it be more like an internal issue then? :’))
Have you charged it?
Ye!
got in on sale at target for $45. my pictures are either too bright or too dark.
how do you change exposure?
I stg not only are my exposures sometimes funky, but there is at least one picture per pack that just won’t eject and it so frustrating
Now that sucks! Have you contacted Polaroid about this?
Wait how did you get a separate filter pack...please god respond...I accidentally destroyed my starburst filter by trying the Vaseline trick - I don't know what's happened, it's cloudy, no amount of rubbing alcohol/degreasing/washing with dish soap will clear it, it keeps getting worse...I'd do fcking anything for you to tell me how I could get my hands on the filters separate, I've tried etsy poshmark, omg. How.
Shit they're for the one step. Shit shit shit
The separate filters or some thing that was sold years ago for the onestep2 cameras
I don't think the camera is a defective. It has ton of setting on the app.
Alllllllsooooo you’re exposing these to light hella early.
Hi, What is that brand that appears in some photos on the top left? like some branches. Thank you
Film does that something’s but it can be from bending the photo during the development
That's the beauty of analog images. not to be perfect. In fact, if you prepare to get best results on film - you beter use light meter to measure highlights, lowlights and to consider if film is capable to capture all detail in given scene. It's not about the camera, it's about a film capabilities and this kind of films always lucks of dynamics. This camera is more about the analog feeling you get, not the quality of the image. If it's not your case, then it's definitely not your camera.
Your not wrong however comparing this to their other cameras, It’s faulty. And there’s no excuse for that
Do you ever tried to use the exposure compensation? Basically by holding the flash button
Yes and I demo that In the video
@@JustAnotherChris I have bought the Now bro, hope you are right, thanks! ✨
I just bought a polaroid 620 amigo for $10
That’s a good find
What are the white fingerprint looking spots on the top left corners?
Polaroids bad quality control on the product that’s what it is lol
Polaroid film in general is pretty terrible when it comes to getting proper exposure. The Burger King photo that you used as reference you point out how the image isn't overexposed and the whites aren't blown out but you're completely ignoring the fact that your face and jacket that isn't directly in the sunlight is way underexposed. The entire side of your face is completely black and your jacket is so black that your arm isn't even visible. The Image only works because you knew to stand facing the sunlight, had you been facing the camera like most inexperienced people would have it would have looked terrible. At the end of the day I think it really all boils down to Polaroid needs to improve the quality of their film. The dynamic range of Polaroid is terrible compared to Instax and you should have to constantly be battling with the exposure to get a usable image.
Maybe it uses spot metering? That would suck haha
So you think I should better buy the Polaroid Now(not plus) I bought the polaroid now + thinking it would be better but now im considering cancell it and buy the polaroid now( non plus)
I would cancel that order for sure!
@@JustAnotherChris And is The Polaroid now (not plus) a good choice?
so which one should i buy instead
NOW,onestep2 or onestep+
My NOW+ is not good. I have gone through 10 packs of film and they all suck. I have tried no app and then with it. Just not worth buying film anymore
Yeah take that thing back!!
Do any filters exists for Now?)
Unfortunately no. The NOW+ filters are backwards compatible
@@JustAnotherChris 😢
Is the polaroid now without the plus still the rightone to pick? Or non of both??
Polaroid NOW is fine. The NOW+ is what to stay away from
@@JustAnotherChrisincluding the Gen 2 right? They have the NOW model gen 2 but it’s not the “Plus” version.
Bought used Impulse AF in Ukraine for $30. It works better than Now+ and even Now. Wow :)

oof I shoot the this camera and now I am thinking about returning. I have had problems with exposure as well
Yeah might be a good idea!
Whats that thing in the uppercut side of the frame?
Uppercut?

It was just announced. I will be getting it and thoroughly testing it
@@JustAnotherChris looking forward to the video! It's very ambiguous whether this is just new materials / usb-c or if it includes electronics improvements / changes

You mean a NOW+ ?
polaroid is aq company full of shit. no other words to say....
next year a new camera that "rivals the cameras from the 70' and 80'" ??? surely a plastic shit that will cost 300-400 € o more if they think to sell a foldable camera.... but surely will make shitty pictures
