    I've only ever used the Gen 2 in manual mode and that's probably why I like it!

    • @PercyTechnic
      @PercyTechnic Рік тому +4

      How do you compensate for it in manual mode? Are you undershooting the value by -1 using the app meter when setting the shot up or are you going by what it says is correct exposure? Unless of course compensating for a very oddly lit scene I mean which I guess you'd be using an external meter.
      Edit: I rewatched the vid and just noticed that it looks like the app is about spot on for the most part.

    Seriously makes me think that it might be the lens on the Gen 2 and Gen 1. Those photos look more like a loss of contrast and lots of glow more so than overexposure

    I’ve had the Now Plus gen 1 for a year now and mine has been getting amazing results by dropping exposure to a -1

    This manual mode is why I bought the camera; control over exposure is everything with film and I don't trust the simple metering systems cameras like these use. That said, I wish the app applied the crop factor (or had a setting to do this) to the f/stops because trying to interpret relative depth of field if you're used to 35mm is not easy.

      Should I keep the shutter speed at 1/125?

    • @ianroe1076
      @ianroe1076 9 місяців тому +1

      @@KywaunJackson Generally speaking it is a good idea to set your aperture as wide as you can manage (lets in lots of light) so you shutter speed can be as fast as possible. 1/125 is good for reducing motion shake but I would say up to 1/60th is probably totally safe handheld. If you have very steady hands you may be able to get to 1/30th.

    I will agree of the issues as i have one myself, but ill be honest, i kinda have a thing for this style of photography. If i can expose it just right, then the camera isn’t a problem for me. Besides i only ever used manual mode on my digital camera and non-instant film cameras, so relying on manual is something i can live with

    What I’m learning over this video about the manual mode is that you place it a little bit under 0 and they came great! I thought should be exactly at 0. Just a quick question, would you recommend to use the flash during manual mode ?

    I have to say I hate the manual mode on these cameras. They started it with the infamous Impossible I-1 and that was the reason I didn't buy the camera when it came out. I want a manual mode with real haptic controls on the camera body. I don't want to have to fiddle with another device like my phone while trying to make some good photos.

    Speaking of "Sun" ...
    I think I will stick with my Polaroid Sun600 SE "50th Anniversary Edition" camera from 1987.
    Doesn't require a phone to use it, and the 600 film is STILL made (only in the Netherlands, but still made)!

    Man, I wish I watched this and the other video before I blew my cash on the bundle they have. If they just fixed the cam's odd exposure issue then it'd be about dang perfect for anyone to pick up. But as it sits, it's a bit more of a tango to use. Though tbh, I guess I can live with it now that I'm learning how to work around it since the extra modes give it a one up vs the SX-70 or 600 cams in some ways.

    The lens on the Gen2 looks much softer, and there’s some blooming or haze to the highlights, not sure if that’s the film emulsion or the plastic lens.

    Chris try a gray card to meter the light. Old school method.

      That’s for color balance and doesn’t apply to polaroid

    • @cws_dp
      @cws_dp 9 місяців тому +1

      nope, a grey card is also used to determine exposure. could be a good idea to test the camera's meter reading against a spot meter's reading of a grey card, just to see what it's doing and if it does indeed tend to reproduce middle grey as being above or below the actual value. then you could always keep the camera set to compensate for that its own inaccurate internal metering

      @@JustAnotherChris Well, you were holding the camera to get the readings. That's a little shaky and not as accurate. If it was on a tripod pointing to the exact location you wanted to take the photo, it would have gotten the readings more accurate for the correct settings. Just a thought.
