  • It took a while, but Nissan is now offering New Zealand buyers the all-electric Ariya - and as Gav found out, it's a bit posh.
    A quiet cabin, plenty of gadgets (check out the electric potato bin!) and a blissful ride make it a tempting offer for kiwi motorists... but all those features come at a hefty price.
    If you enjoyed this video, hit the subscribe button to catch next week's video review of a brand new offering that's just about to hit our shores. Alternatively, if you absolutely hated this video then hit subscribe anyway so that you can keep that energy going! 😄

    they have been talking about this car being on sale here for years! My friend gave up hope and bought a leaf, it is ok but it does have some shortfalls. i was also thinking about buying one ( 3 years ago) but ended up buying an MG in the meantime for SO much less than this. I could get for the money .......... well, lots! My MG zsev face lift i9s a smaller car, but it has the option of strong regen, sport mode, adaptive cruise control. It has a sun roof, + sunscreen (both motorised). normal buttons, V to L, charging port at the front, easy to use and park around town, and I can turn off the lane keep and it stays off. Isofix seat attachments for the grandkids etc. The ride is fine, the boot is big enough for the shopping, and most importantly, very good value for the price. 13 months and 0 problems. So, in the end, it is I guess, horses for courses.

    • @julianwarmington1267
      @julianwarmington1267 5 місяців тому +2

      Nah, that's really great value, esp if it includes V2L/V2G capability. That's awesome.
      V2L definitely ought to be a standard feature in any pure electric vehicle these days, particularly in other marques working to compete with Tesla.
      That Tesla still hasn't made that tech standard is the great gift to other marques. That they haven't all done the obvious thing and capitalized on that gift is just peculiar.
      So, good on MG, and, smart move you, on taking that purchase option!

      You can't compare MG to Nissan (have you seen MG's 0 star safety rated car just released? Yikes, in 2024 0 stars. It's cheap for a reason and it's not because they want to be nice. Not built to last and resale value will not treat you kindly. Each to their own though.

    Great review Gavin. I must say I'm very disappointed about the lack of bidirectional charging functionality especially as the Leaf has long ruled the roost in that respect and so many other EV makers are moving towards V2G ability.
    I assume that it has some sort of active battery thermal management in light of the preheating function so at least Nissan have addressed that shortfall from the Leaf. Nice vehicle but it will struggle in a very competitive part of the EV market IMO.

    A reasonable and entertaining report but nonetheless disappointing. No mention of battery technology. If its NMC it means, realistically that WLTP are 20% overstated. If it is LFP all is forgiven but please include this information.
    I am an Aussie and NZ is the Beta testing for us so we are about six months to eighteen months behind in getting product so we rely on complete details.
    Spuds are fun but give us chemistry.
    The Leaf is an ongoing disaster in Australia with its non-thermally managed battery and accelerated degradation. Looks like the Ariya is what the Leaf should have been five years ago.
    Pricing should be same or less than Kona EV or similar to Atto 3.
    It is way smaller in boot capacity by hundreds of litres compared to Tesla Model Y.

And the top-spec Ariya Evolve will cost up to $105,000 with 513 km of range. The first two are front wheel drive with a 63 kWh battery, while the Evolve will be 87 kWh with all wheel drive with 2 motors (225 kW / 600 Nm).
