      When I was younger and in College I was clean shaven. As I aged and got more comfortable in my career I grew my beard. I also grew my hair and pulled it back in a ponytail. When I changed jobs I cut my hair and beard. But then the Van Dyke came back. The longer hair just didn't make it for me. Back then the wife didn't care for the beard. Today I still have the Van Dyke however I use my beard trimmer to leave stubble on the rest of the face. I trim up everything once a week. In my 40's when I was cleaned shaven I didn't care for it. I lost my chin and jaw line. So the Van Dyke is with me until the end.

      Beards in general arent a thing most women go for. ask any women on the street. Nowadays they will directly tell you that they either “dont mind it” or not prefer it entirely. the only sorts of people who do like it are men.
      i dont blame you guys for liking it it sometimes looks cool but that alone it isnt gonna get you ladies or in this case give you more chances of getting them.
      when females look at you the first thing theyd notice is facial features. then everything else comes after. what kind of female blushes over someones beard? they mainly if not all go/prefer jawlines. Look all over tik tok twitter and most male models. they either have no beard of Shaved ones.
      but anyone reading this rn if you dont have a good jawline most definitely get a beard

    • @shuyaku99
      @shuyaku99 3 роки тому +2

      @@zereth2792 Fully agreed. I think most guys who are interested in big bushy beards are trying to cover up their weak jaws, which there's nothing wrong with ofc, but most women would 100% prefer good facial structure over a nice beard.
      One key point i'm highly against Eric on, is that you should grow your beard even if it's patchy/scraggly. You'll just look like shit.

    Being clean shaven or maintained short stubble is a great way to stand out with confidence, especially if you have a sharp jaw line and strong chin. I work in a very professional office, and almost every single guy has a beard. I was in the military and yes, I understand that we had to be clean shaven and grow a mustache within regulation. So since being honorably discharged over 20 years ago, I started to grow out my facial hair in my early 40s. In my late 20s and throughout my 30s I couldn’t grow out my beard due to a lot of patches. So by the time I got to my early 40s, I gave it a try and the patches are less and I feel like I rock facial hair a lot better than in my 20s and 30s. And to provide maintenance to my facial hair is just as important to providing maintenance to head hair. So yeah, even though this video was made nearly 2 years ago, and if you haven’t done so, then I highly recommend you give it that initial month and grow out your facial hair.

That said-I do prefer a nice wet shave over beard maintenance. I'm a pretty stoic guy so people tend to assume I'm more aggressive when I have my beard. I started a new job this summer and I shaved the beard down to just about nothing. My boss was actually a little upset that I took it off.
    I have had more comments and compliments on my look now than I ever have in my life. So, as long as you are clean and it shows through your appearance, it is a good thing. I am going for the Santa Claus look this year and have a fan club now.

    Beards all the way man!
    When I was in my early 20s, I was in a job where I needed to train new starters quite often. Some of these people were over twice my age, sometimes with more experience in the field but unfamiliar with our practices and protocols.
    I originally started growing my beard as this made me look older and gave me more authority - baby face problems! In every job since, I have had to train my peers and the beard is something that I believe makes a difference. Also makes a difference when talking to new colleagues in other teams I believe. Now in my 30s with 4 year old, and I've kept the beard permanently (almost) since he was born.
    I shaved last year for Movember (No-shave November), and my son's reaction was hilarious! I still have the baby face, with some added wrinkles. Going to keep the beard, probably for the rest of my life.
    This was my experience though, in the UK. As a brown, bearded dude, I am fairly certain some people are wary of me, but you know what - screw them!

    Nothing wrong with rocking a beard. The only problem though, which applies to like 2/3 of the people who have beard, is the fact that they are clearly over compensating for something. It might be height, body type, facial structure, voice, penis size and etc. And that's pathetic. Because people can see through it, no matter of the amount of hair you have on your face. The thing is when you lack many things, you tend to cling onto 1 particular thing and defend it religiously, which is a MASSIVE indicator that there's no point of arguing with such specimen.

  • @JodyRivers
    @JodyRivers 11 місяців тому +2

    From painful experience I can attest that growing a beard definitely requires a lot of maintenance and upkeep. Not to mention the high cost of beard oils and waxes. It is so much faster to just do a quick shave every day or two. Plus as far as I am concerned, being clean-shaven feels so much better and cleaner. Don't even get me started about eating and drinking with a beard. The beareded dude claims that is not an issue if you trim it properly. I call bullshit! Regardless of how neatly trimmed and cropped my beard was, it always managed to catch pretty much anything I ate or drank. My girlfriend always complained that it was scratchy against her sensitive skin, especially down there. I used all the expensive beard products to keep my beard moisturized and healthy. In the end, it was all a huge waste of money, at least in my case.
    What I do not hear Eric saying is that the majority of beards thin with age, it is a natural process. When I was in my forties. my beard was pretty thick and lush. Around the age of 55 it began to noticibly thin and show bald spots. My doctor said that is quite common because men produce less DHT as they age, and that is the hormone required to grow a beard. There may be some treatments available to help with that, but they are also expensive and not guaranteed to work.
    My biggest annoyance with bearded men in general, is how so many of them create an entire identity out of fucking facial hair, which is basically just pubes on your chin! I could care less what other men do with their face, just stop with the stupid comments about clean shaven men being women and other childish remarks. Lastly, take anything Eric Bandholz says about beards with a healthy grain of salt, as he is in the business of selling beard products. In the end, having a beard or remaining clean shaven is a personal choice, and that I can respect. Please just do not allow the facial fur to be the only thing you identify with.
    Having said all this, clean shaven gets my vote!

    I was Army for 24 years so I prefer to not wear a beard. I think clean shaven vs beard basically boils down to a preference. Clean shaven seems more car salesmen, doctor, lawyer, politician, law enforcement such as FBI agent, DEA, verses beard appears to be more experience in blue collar such as construction, plumber, AC Repair, Car Mechanic, even musician or the arts. fashion design, but overall hygiene grooming with a well cut and trimmed beard, gold tee, mustache or clean shaven versus a guy that lets it grow like Santa Claus gives the appearance of rebel biker, anarchy or homeless stereo type, grooming trumps all no matter the profession whether its a beard or not.

    I’m 100% Team Beard and here’s why.
    Round one: I was in the military for 29 years and as soon as I got out I grew my beard however I don’t let my hair on top get too long. 🤨
    Shaving become a chore where a beard became just like jewelry or a hairstyle. It’s an accessory.
    Round two: I am now in a leadership position in a corporate environment and a well-maintained beard shows that you care where a wild or unruly beard may portray that you are more concerned with being unique.
    Round three: Once I grew my beard out, my wife will not let me shave it off.
    Round four: shaving takes more time as this is a daily requirement where good beard maintenance can be once a week or less depending on the style and level of manscaping. Last notes, A face with no hair is just your face but a face with hair is like a canvas that you can design a work of art of your own.
    Round five: all of the comments on the beard heroes in movie icons were spot on. In the past a clean shaven face was the thing. Now a beard rocks it!
    Round six: in the past hygiene was not an easy thing to maintain. Now there are more soaps and body cleansers than you could ever count with all of your fingers toes your neighbors fingers and toes.
    Round seven: growing a beard is not an easy thing to do. Some have problems with razor bumps and itchy and others can’t shave because of serious skin irritation.
    Final thought: Antonio, give it a try. Fight through that 1st tough week and see how it’s received. I bet you’ll be surprised. 😳

    - Clean shaven: You appear more trustworthy, younger, cleaner, more conservative.
    - Bearded: You appear more masculine, dangerous & aggressive.
    I have sometimes rock the, "5 O'clock shadow" that is a nice in-between that seems to strike a balance.

    I started growing my beard 2 months ago after not having a beard for 15 years and I am very happy with it. I also have noticed many more guys in my area with beards since the pandemic has progressed. I feel alot more confident and comfortable now, and now that it's November I can put together nice outfits that compliment my bearded appearance. and my girlfriend loves it as well. So whats NOT to like ! : )

    I have to say Eric wins. Every woman I’ve met likes a little facial hair, sometimes a lot of facial hair. I can’t grow a beard. I had bad acne in high school and have a patchy beard in general.
    All that said, beards irritate the hell out of me. There’s always rogue hairs that bother my face and that makes me not want to deal with it. So I shave.

    I started keeping my face clean shaven since I was 20(late 2019), and here I am in 2022...I rather look myself younger. So far I had a lipstick mark on my right cheek(& my lips) from my mother's coworker(she really likes me btw)(despite the Pandemic)
    Also being clean shaven is the most important part during the Hair/Glam Metal era(Motley Crue, Poison, GNR, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Stryper, Twisted Sister, Van Halen, Dokken, Steel Panther, etc.)

    I’m 52 and have tried all facial hair styles.
    A short beard takes the least maintenance and looks great most of the time.
    Long beards take a lot of maintenance at times, and it gets time consuming when you have to comb it every day before leaving the house, but provide the most protection from the sun and the cold.
    Stubble is cool with low maintenance time, but some chics hate the burn and it can look lazy at certain times.
    Clean shaven takes a bit of time every day, but is always acceptable and classy, and can make you look the youngest possible as you get older.
    If your jawline is good, go with clean shaven, stubble or short beard.
    Weak jawline or double chin, go with medium full beard with low neckline.
    Outdoors a lot and single, solitary type guy? Let it grow super long
    My personal fave was the short beard in my 30s, but as the gray comes in I prefer clean shaven.
    Cheers

    Men keep worrying about what women and society thinks. Most women change their minds like the weather. Be the man "You" want to be and the right woman for "You" will come. You can't please everyone, but you can please yourself. I am 60 years old and have come to realize this. Women do not want men who can't make their own decisions and they will do things and say things to see what kind of man you are. Alot of women sit in front of the television all day and are constantly "Programmed" by the Elite. The Elite wants everyone to be robots and conform to an androgynous society and their other evil agendas. Be the Man "You" want to be.

    Practicality: Eric won, since a lot of people aren't exactly from the armed forces or work in an environment that needs their face to be air tight
    Professionalism: I'd call this a draw, both the gentlemen provided us very good Information and both are correct in their own ways. So let me make it a little more clear, if you're someone who works in an environment that works with people, like sales, shop keepings, small business then go clean shaven as it looks professional. If you're leading a team, like management and Actually owning the businesses and shops then go for a beard
    Attraction: this is a very open concept. Every woman has a different choice, some girls prefer clean shaven men, others prefer heavy beards. And it's not about women, even men have different opinions on beards. Some think they're cool and badass other think they're aggressive so I call this a tie again since this is a very wide topic and everyone has different opinions
    Upkeep and care: Antonio won here, he's right that shaving is very easy nowadays since you can just grab a razon and do your buisness. You don't have to use a double blade cartridge razor like your grandfather did. Beard they take mentaining, but tbh it depends on what type of beard you're growing. If you're growing for a shorter beard yeah it may not be that difficult but if you want a big beard like Australian comedian Isaac Butterfield's beard then yeah it requires a lot of care. Beard oil, beard shampoo, dryer, then keeping the shape you want to keep, it is a lot of work
    Style icons from movies: Eric wins here because almost every actor keeps a beard for a specific role. Whether it's the rock, Leonardo DiCaprio, brad pitt, Johnny depp, Jason Statham. But there are exceptions for both the sides. And heros with beards tend to really dominate the scenes. Like thor, Aquaman, capt America, any Jason Statham movie etc
    Historical significance: it really depends on your culture, in my country India beards weren't something everyone had. However we are EXTREMELY famous for our mustaches, even till this date, if you look at Soldiers from any rajput, Maratha or sikh regiments from the Indian army you'll notice the amazing styles of mustaches, similar to Europe where men also rocked mustaches both small (England, Italy, spain, france) mustaches or huge mustaches (germany, Russia, Austria. Or basically any Nordic country) unlike the USA where historical figures were clean shaven (most of the times)
    Individualism: both win here. Tbh I agree a lot of people feel confident while having a beard, and at the end of the day it is about you as a person. If you like being clean shaven, go ahead bud, if you feel confident in a beard. Go for it. Really it depends on you as an individual
    My opinion: if you like a beard you can keep it, however just remember that it WILL BE a lot of effort in order to understand what goes with your face, to mentain that, to feel confident in it. If you don't want to work a lot then go clean shaven, but if you want to be in a middle ground then keep a mustache

    Real talk, having a beard comes with vast amounts of maintenance. I feel like I take as long as my girlfriend to get ready. Condition it, pat it down with a towel, blow dry it, put some balm in to shape it, blow dry it some more, put my shirt on, and brush it down one more time... but damn women love it and the confidence is always through the roof.

    • @Pinckman1360
      @Pinckman1360 3 роки тому +2

      Maintenance is the key. Women don't like beards because they envision the "homeless" look of the past. Men who rock well groomed and styled facial hair attract more women because most men cant or won't rock a glorious beard. I spend a least 30 mins a day on mine. It takes time but it worth it, and growing a beard does more than make you look good. It helps you spiritually also. I visioned the beard I wanted and let it do its thing and after 3 years it finally matured to what I visualized. Anything in life can be had if you can dream it and then put the work into it. I have failed (just like everything I wanted in life) numerous times but keep going and finally it came to light. Society wants everything to materialize instantaneous but it does not work that way. Even God said he took a day of rest after creating the world. It takes time to achieve glory.

    As a beard person I can say that for men the beard is a win. I feel there is a cultural stigma against beards in this country. I get so many questions and conversation starters about my beard. Women get curious about me without a beard but many of the woman I’ve dated loved the beard. It’s a unique quality in man that exudes masculinity which’s draws an appeal
    Personally the last time I shaved to the skin was around 2013. It felt unnatural to my because of my face shape. Having a rounded face and no hair on my head made me look like a large baby. To this day I’ve kept facial hair as a lifestyle choice.
    I’ve seen YT videos in reviews of beard products. It took a long time to discover beard balm works best for me to keep it less corse and amazing fragrance. It’s easy to shave but it takes work to grow a beard. When women ask about the beard I like to joke that “A man with a beard is someone you should date. They know how to commit.”

    • @HansensUniverseT-A
      @HansensUniverseT-A 11 місяців тому

      I think a lot of men uses their facial hair to generate a sense of masculinity when in reality some actually look like a manbaby with it, there is nothing more dominating and masculine than a man who can be masculine without any beard, beards don't make you more masculine, men should learn what true masculinity actually is, sadly many don't today.

    Eric won all rounds. Guys don’t generally like successful women so why would we care what they think lol. Men in the military once they attain higher rank are allowed facial hair even rangers are able to wear full beards even tho they probably use gas masks the most, beards are earned in the military so that argument is nullified. God made man in his image therefore it’s disrespectful and unnatural to shave beards. The point about ppl fearing you or assuming you are lazy or sleazy with a beard comes down to a simple ultimatum: Just respect your beard and maintain it like it’s a loved one and everyone else will respect it as well. Beards existed before Gillette propaganda. Beard will always be better then no beard.

  • @mikebennett146

    Based on my own experience of being clean shaven and having a short beard ( 1 inch or less ), I do think it's more upkeep & maintenance having a short beard, even if one only trims/perfects it once a week or two. This is because of all the in-between time of regular daily 'inspection' and self-consciousness of getting any food particles in it and maybe being unaware of it while being out. I consider all this a form of maintenance. Shaving for me is no-nonsense, very quick, usually just one pass, sometimes two, and only done every 3 or 4 days or weekly. I don't fuss around with special shaving supplies and just use cheap Bic single-blade cartridge razors and either a decent shave foam (Gillette/Barbasol) spread by hands or Palmolive shave stick soap with a brush. I always get a fantastic shave with these ultra-budget supplies. I love being a frugal shaver I get a kick out of it. Once in a while I grow out the beard for a couple weeks with the intent of growing it out for much longer than that, only to always find myself shaving it off again at roughly the 2 week mark, primarily due to it making my facial complexion appear so much darker which I don't really like. I have very pale white skin and dark dirty blonde facial hair. But on my face the hair may as well be dark brown because I'm so pale. 50% Welsh 50% Swedish genes. I think my favorite look is short stubble ranging between the 5 to 10 day mark.

      Beards can help camouflage a weak, or slightly chubby jawline, but ONLY if the beard is trimmed (shaven) to create a defined edge that mimics a chiseled jawline. Otherwise, a beard that creeps down the neck is sloppy and just draws the eye to the fact that the guy is hiding something - or is just lazy, or depressed, or living on the streets and, sadly, has no resources to stay groomed.
