A factor not mentioned here is how some faces can't grow fuller more filled in beards. Keanu is a great example. He looks good with it tight, not so much with it full because of the gaps.
Very true. Dev Patel has the same kind of patches in his beard but when he grows it out in full it still looks good and I think it suits him well

I'm shocked by the amount of people mocking the term "beard expert". Like, what do you think your barber is? They're beard experts! And especially if he's a barber and he's decided that he's going to focus on facial hair more than anything else, then yeah he absolutely gets to call himself a beard expert. Also, as a hairstylist, I really enjoyed listening to his expertise.
People forget that somebody has to make or sculpt the things we take for granted. It's sort of like epicurious's food experts show. People laughed at the notion of icecream experts and beer experts, but they brought in a well accomplished icecream maker and a pretty big name in brewing. Both were exceptionally knowledgeable because they make these things for a living.

I saw TV interview with someone touted as a skincare expert and the host kind of chuckled as he read that. What qualified her as such? She had a PhD in materials engineering and created molecules in a lab, understanding how slightly different versions of the “same” ingredient might be absorbed by a cell membrane differently, how more than 2.5% of a specific ingredient actually reduced its efficacy, how to encapsulate some ingredients in oxygen-reactive molecule level packages so they don’t interact with each other in the packaging but are released when applied.
The world is full of people who think that because *they* know nothing, there must be nothing *to* know. Thank goodness for the experts.
Unfortunately, most barbers are not beard experts. Almost any barber can do a shave, few understand beard care.
I asked my beard barber for the “dune beard “ and he delivered! Very distinguished look if you can pull it off.
So distinguished you might end up targeted by a political conspiracy.

This turned out to be much more interesting and entertaining than I thought it would be. I have never heard of Matty Conrad before now but I really enjoyed his presentation skills along with his knowledge and opinions of facial hair. It doesn't hurt that he can sport that full beard and twirled mustache look. I can't grow a good mustache.
Chris Pine's facial hair is easily my favorite. Ths style he's going for, including the long hair, spoke to me more than any other person on this video. Despite whether you're an expert or not, just like this guy said, it is about expressing yourself and your personality.
It's Pine and Isaac for me. They just pull it off so effortlessly.
Young beardless pine seems fierce and a bit cold. Strong but definitely a tone that says he could definitely mess you up. Bearded pine with the long hair is soft and approachable. It makes him seem more mature and kind. The emotion is what I look for

Oscar Issac is so perfect. Agree with you on Keanu. And even with the longer hair and beard, Chris Pine is still ridiculously beautiful.
Chris Pine could be on a sequel about excellent eyebrows. They balance out a not great beard.

Fun fact about Jon Hamm: While doing Mad Men he sometimes had to be shaved up to 3 times a day because his facial hair would come in so fast
Definitely use a safety razor if you have to shave that much and love Jon hamm he’s one of of the greats

It’s interesting how much a beard can shape the first impression of certain men. Especially for men with dark hair like Kit Harrington and Ben Barnes, their entire presence changes without the beard.

I totally agree on Keanu's. I really dislike it when it's full. Looks a bit messy. His face shape is narrow so a well-tailored, short beard suits him better.
I used to think the same about Keanu’s beard but it’s grown on me.

It’s funny, my brother is blonde with a red beard and looks exactly like Jerimiah Johnson. I look similar but my hair is jet black.

For the last year, I’ve been rocking a full VanDyke (similar to Pierce Brosnans’ without the grey) after being clean shaven for all 32 previous years of my life, and I’ve never felt better about myself. I naturally have thin patchy hair on the cheeks but strong thick hair around the mouth so it just ended up this way and looks great. When I’m old I want it to look like that of John Harvey Kellogg

im transmasc, and for the longest time i thought that the thing i least look forward to if i ever go on T is facial hair, but then i find myself watching this entire video with fascination. This has brought me a lot more appreciation for beards than i had before.
I think Jon Hamm and Jake Gyllenhaal both show how much facial hair can change how we perceive a character. Jon Hamm clean-shaven does look like the suave Don Draper, but in some roles like Black Mirror having that facial hair makes him seem more rough around the edges. Gyllenhaal is the opposite; with the beard he looks distinguished, but in something like Nightcrawler where he was clean-shaven, it feeds into the character being very superficial and psychopathic. Characters aren't always supposed to be handsome, so sometimes going in the opposite direction is a good thing.

Steve Carell was the first person to come to my mind who would be good in a comparison of with and without a beard.
Oscar Isaac just oozes masculinity with the beard. I actually love Keanu with the wild man beard or the John wick beard but you're right his face does look longer. I thought you did great by the way. More please?

Oscar has a heart shaped face aka inverted triangle. His salt&pepper beard is amazing. Harden has a old school beard like my dad and uncles use to wear in the 70’s but you gotta shampoo it often and keep it moisturized.

Love the different perspectives, but I really appreciate the take on Jon Hamm as I am Nishnaabe (Ojibwe), indigenous Canadian, and I cannot grow substantial facial hair, like I broke my leg last year and tried to let my facial hair grow for a month and a bit and it just looked like any of these guys after 2 days maybe (and it's not like I'm just adolescent, I'm 31 tho mixed blood so maybe more facial hair down the road?) so I hope that that's what most people think of me, that they're used to me without facial hair and think I look better without facial hair, it also helps that a couple people commented that I remind them of Jon Hamm / vice versa (especially in terms of goofiness)

Do need to perfect my beard shapping capabilities. Truly a challenge. The under bottom left grows to the right and my under bottom right gross left. Plus another couple patches that grow in odd directions.

For a part 2, Robert Pattinson is one of the few guys who is literally a 10/10 clean shaven, with stubble, a short beard, mustache, or a fuller beard
