Don't Touch The Lord's Anointed!

  • In this episode, we discuss honor culture and the concept of "Don't touch the Lord's anointed."
    "Don't touch the Lord's Anointed" . . . "you should have spoken to them privately" . . . and maybe my favorite "Judge not lest YEEEE be Judged" are all comments that we see too frequently on our UA-cam channel. But is there really a biblical prohibition to confronting teaching we disagree with? Are there hoops we need to jump through before we disagree? Or maybe disagreement itself is quarrelsome and divisive. We will discuss all this and more today at 4PM CST!

    I'd love to see you guys discuss boundaries within church leader involvement in personal lives and decisions. Specifically, where is the line between helpful concern and advice and assistance -- and control, bullying, manipulations, etc? I've encountered this a few times in churches and church communities, and when concern turns into pressure or interference it can get really toxic and it's hard to call it out. The leader pressuring or manipulating/interfering in your personal life can't really be called out for a sin, and if you let them know specifically what you want them to stop doing they are often defensive and can double down and continue. People often see them as just very loving and concerned, even though you've asked them to please step back. It can cause a lot of problems if they are making their will for your life known to people in the community, or colluding with others in your community/church to get their will for your life to happen. People often think they are trying to help God's will occur. (this can be in job situations, personal life choices, relationships, all kinds of things) So then - who do you go to? How can this be remedied, since it's one of those "invisible sin" kinda deals? I'd be interested in your thoughts.

    This was an important discussion. We must lovingly correct error. At the same time we have to respect church authority. And we always have to take these issues to God in prayer. Talking out my issues with leadership with our Heavenly Father has saved me and others a lot of unnecessary pain when I thought they were making grievous errors and I was just immature.

      I agree. In the OT those who held the office of prophet, priest and king would be ceremonially anointed with oil (a symbol of the Holy Spirit) to symbolise that they had been set a part for a holy purpose and that was to guide the people of God. In the NT all believers are priests and kings (and some of us are also prophets) and we are all anointed due to the presence of the Holy Spirit within us, who teaches us and guides us, and who was sent only after Pentecost and therefore could not be accessed to everyone before. This is the reason why God made a special provision only for certain people who held certain offices in the OT. Of course, as the body of Christ, today we have full access to the Holy Spirit if we so wish (we have to seek Him and live a holy life of course) and, while we all have different gifts and not all of us are teachers, evangelists, prophets or pastors, these particular gifts are not more anointed, special or inherently more authoritative than other gifts. I think that those who insist on the OT model either have a poor understanding of what the purpose of the anointing was vs what it is today but are in good faith while others cling to the OT model in order to lord it over and control those "under" them (even though we are all equal in the body of Christ).

      All members of the New Covenant Church of Jesus Christ are anointed, based on what is found below.
      Which of the Two Baptisms is required for salvation?
      Water baptism was a part of the Old Covenant system of ritual washing. The Old Covenant priests had to wash before beginning their service in the temple. When Christ was water baptized by His cousin John in the Jordan River, He was under the Old Covenant system. He also only ate certain foods, and wore certain clothes, as prescribed by the 613 Old Covenant laws. Christ was water baptized by John and then received the Holy Spirit from heaven. The order is reversed in the New Covenant. A person receives the Holy Spirit upon conversion, and then believers often declare their conversion to their friends and family through a New Covenant water baptism ceremony.
      The conversion process is described below.
      Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
      Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
      (A person must “hear” the Gospel, and “believe” the Gospel, and will then be “sealed” with the Holy Spirit.)
      Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
      (See Jer. 31:34 for the New Covenant promise, and 1 John 2:27 for the fulfillment)
      ============
      Which baptism is a part of the salvation process, based on what the Bible says?
      What did Peter say below?
      Acts 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
      Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
      Based on Luke 3:16, and John 1:33, and Acts 11:15-16, the most important thing about the word "baptize" in the New Testament has nothing to do with water. The Holy Spirit is the master teacher promised to New Covenant believers in Jeremiah 31:34, and John 14:26, and is found fulfilled in Ephesians 1:13, and 1 John 2:27. Unfortunately, many modern Christians see water when they read the word "baptize" in the text.
      Based on the above, what is the one baptism of our faith found in the passage below? How many times is the word "Spirit" found in the passage, and how many times is the word "water" found in the passage?
      Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
      Eph 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
      Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
      Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
      Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (See 1 Cor. 12:13)
      “baptize” KJV
      Mat_3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
      Mar_1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
      Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Water or Holy Spirit?, See Eph. 1-13.)
      Luk_3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
      Joh_1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
      Joh_1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
      1Co_1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
      1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (See Eph. 4:1-5)
      Heb 9:10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. (Old Covenant ----> New Covenant)
      How many people have been saved by the Old Covenant water baptism of John the Baptist?
      Who did John the Baptist say is the greatest Baptist that ever lived in Luke 3:16? What kind of New Covenant baptism comes from Christ?
      New Covenant water baptism is a beautiful ceremony which allows new believers to declare their conversion to the whole world.

    I have know Ministries that used this phrase and regarded themselves above a challenge, from anyone. Or they would say that they are accountable to a group of trusted ministers. Most of the time this was a sad joke. I have found over the last 50 years that if “the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, dwells in you…” then we each deserve Respect as children of the Lord through Jesus our Savior. It’s time to love and respect each other and stop posturing. Just my thoughts.

    This is definitely a great discussion. I had an incident happen where I was at a conference and my pastor had me pray as an intercessor. During that window of time I wanted to give a word God placed on my heart for the conference and a prior experience in corporate worship that would help people press in during worship. But before I could give that portion after I had prayed a woman came up. She should next to me as I held the mic. And I looked at her and ask “Do you want the mic ?” She stated yes. This woman was also a pastor and she went by the title of Apostle which I do believe is an office used for the equipping of the saints. As a result I gave her the mic.
    I went back to my chair and I felt a stirring in the pit of my stomach. I had felt it before and knew that Holy Spirit was grieved. I started going through in my head if I should of done that or not. I felt the fear of the Lord come over me. So the Pastor who took the mic led the people in corporate praise and dancing. But when she got back to her seat I looked and I don’t know how it happened because it happened quickly, but she broke her leg. I found out from my Pastor that she wasn’t suppose to be up there and she wasn’t on the line up to pray. I don’t know what she was into but shortly after she died sadly. God is a loving God but he is also a just God. I’ve found that the more anointed you are the less you can get away with. God does give space for repentance but he is also the just judge. He rewards every man according to his deeds. Love the content just started following this year and will continue to watch.
    Love you all with the love of Christ!

      @@Eriken1 I just remember she wasn’t suppose to be up there and I didn’t get to release what God placed on my heart to share. I believe it was a price for stealing the glory from God. In scripture you have hananiah in Jeremiah 28 who got judged switchly. There were also others who received judgement as well like In Ezekiel 13 and Acts 5. I also know I did have an encounter at that conference and learned some very important things. I also was the type of individual that had in many seasons spent lots and lots of time with God. I’m sure God takes it personal when his children misrepresent him and do things to each other that he doesn’t like. But I felt that there were other things at work behind the scenes that I didn’t know about and that moment brought exposure. I was sad about it because it’s not his will that any should perish but all should come to repentance.

    I would say the defining line of what constitutes "gossip" is the question of usefulness, rather than simply the question of intent. In other words, "Is sharing this thing useful to the hearer for edification, instruction, warning, etc." If I am sharing a story about a person, without utility, then I am probably gossiping, regardless of my intent. Furthermore, in most cases, these things can be shared without identifying the person in play. So there is the second question of "Is there a usefulness to me identifying the person/people in play?"

Back in those days the Pentecostals didn’t have many church buildings and often met in brush arbors. But they did use the various cemeteries at multiple churches. During a funeral at a Baptist cemetery the Pentecostal preacher conducting the funeral was beaten physically by a Baptist woman who was enraged that such a “holy roller false preacher” was at her church. Public disagreement is one thing, accusations or insinuation of heresy is in our cultural context - the juicy gossip. False teaching is sin, all sin is problematic for the body. Social media makes our private discourse fairly public. If the teaching is common but outside your denomination, it seems egregious and in the spirit of gossip to point at the leader when the denomination is where the problem is held. Many reformer-rage-bait/watchdog channels seem to like to pinpoint teachers rather than denominations or widely held teachings. It seems aimed at getting algorithmically-driven clicks by tagging the names, which seems kinda gross. Courage is one thing, preaching to the choir (in a calvanist context certainly) with spicy tags is another. Talking to disciples about a category is different than a specific person, also Jesus said all that stuff to thier face (presumably since he was a kid, 13 y/o at least). At the same time it's important to confront these teachings where it is appropriate. If we had courage we would go to those churches and confront them directly when it comes to doctrine and be open to being wrong if they have defense for thier teaching. UA-cam videos are insulated spaces, and are cyber-pulpits. The irony aspect of confronting wrong confrontation is actually the point, if I see somebody beating on somebody I might intervene by beating on them. Serving the same medicine as a lesson, no further.

    I mean 1 Corinthians 5 deals with dealing with sin. I believe the spirit of error is an actual demon that influences .

    As you guys discussed, teachings and prophecies shared on UA-cam are effectively in the public square, which is anomalous to any biblical model of local spiritual authority in churches. Consequently, disagreements between believers also become public spectacle, thereby bringing the name of the Lord into disrepute. To me, the problem this creates is analogous to lawsuits against believers discussed in 1 Corinthians 6:1-8. E.g., in v.4 Paul asks, "So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church?" Laying your doctrinal disputes before the entire world-wide UA-cam audience is indeed laying them before those who have no standing in the church, but on a massive scale that Paul could never have anticipated.
    I hear your argument that courageously standing against an egregious source of deception on a channel such as this could save some, and therefore can justify long-distance, non-relational strikes against offenders. Take care with using that as blanket justification. At least consider whether the number you may save from deception will necessarily exceed the number who will find the entire spectacle of public disagreement among those who "own the name of Jesus" sufficient to reject or deconstruct from the faith. This is not a calculation you can make with any degree of certainty, which is why I would want to discern a very clear leading from the Holy Spirit before venturing into this space.
    Having the reach and influence to expose errors and excesses through a platform like UA-cam is one thing; having the express authority from the leading of the Holy Spirit to do so is another.
    I'm also going to go with "we should judge sin in the church," but using a public UA-cam channel as the means to announce those judgements to the whole world is a different category of activity in my estimation.
    Of course, feel free to take this comment down if strikes you as judgmental! From my perspective, I'm sharing it only because it seems like it was perspective that you did not consider in your episode and yet might deserve consideration.

    I've heard it said MANY times, that to speak poorly or even jusr disagree with a "person of God" is to curse them. So silly.

    New Covenant Whole Gospel:
    Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
    He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
    Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
    Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by
    husband unto them, saith the LORD:
    Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
    Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
    Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
    Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
    Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
    We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.

    34 minutes in. So Jesus's ministry has nothing to do with gossip. He is the Christ so he was making a way for truth and people to know the truth. I'm not Jesus. So to another Christian to another yes it will be gossip but to put Jesus and for get his purpose while on earth?!?! Alot of Christians try to use bible illustrations for there Circumstances but it's not appropriate because of the purpose of christ coming to earth. If that makes sense?!

    I cant help but think that this might be a problem for Remnant Radio especially when i think of the fawning IHOPKC series that has since been taken down...Where was the discernment and obedience to critique wacko prophecies... Heidi Baker and all the wacked stuff she has said... Eat a Cookie!!! Eat a cookie!!!..And the tearful interview that was published as she gave her "testimony" which was a disgiused screed against Cessationists ...
