  • In this tutorial, John demonstrates how you can use Utrecht Artists’ Oils in a limited palette to create an incredible variety of greens without ever opening up a tube of green paint. Particularly useful for plein air and landscape painting, this technique will enhance your understanding of the nuances of just one color while helping you make the most of your palette.

We can't think of a single exercise that would be more valuable for landscape painters! We're so proud to see this great teacher and painter using Blick-exclusive Utrecht Artist's Colors!

Excellent exercise in color matching. May I recommend viewing your work in different light sources. If you're painting under a single light source say in your basement. Take it up and look at it under daylight. Especially if you are mixing complementary colors like green and red. You may be surprised (maybe unpleasantly) at your result

I have found the advice to mix white or yellow with ivory black to make a green I can use way more than the bad tube greens.

Yes, discovered this when working in the desert when there are so many grey-green/sage colors.
