I like how he shows that a high fat diet in his perception consists of a hamburger with a bun a hotdog with a bun, some breaded, chicken wings, and it looks like a pastry. That’s not the kind half fat diet that I’m familiar with. I’m eating beef butter, bacon and eggs. Getting plenty of good fats. Have lost weight and feeling fantastic. 36 hour Fast once a week. 72 hour Fast once a month.
Yep and they call 12 hours of not eating as a fast, that's just sleeping!. And their high fat is diet is full of total crap food, no one suggests you eat a bunch of hot dogs, not fair to blame issue there on just 'fat.' As for keto, research shows that the insulin resistance from keto is a physiologically flexible kind that goes away in a few days if you transition to more carbs. It's just there because much of the body transitions to ketones for fuel and rejects sugar in order to preserve available glucose for the few cells that require glucose. I also have never seen any research it increases risk for diabetes directly. This form of temp insulin resistance during ketosis has never been shown to do any of that, that's only true of the stubborn not beneficial form of insulin resistance associated with metabolic syndrome. There's also zero evidence that you'll get cardiac fibrosis, I think this guy is just heavily biased against meat.
What you are eating is how they make lab rats T2 diabetic for research. The clinicians argue amongst themselves about which HFD is most effective but it's all HFD.

I have a question. Do these high fat diets include carbohydrates as well? Like hamburger is usually eaten with a bun. Have they done a study with meat and high fat without carbs or low level of carbs daily? I have listened to these type of discussions and often there is no mention the carbohydrate content and type of carbs taken along with high fat foods discussed.
@@lme9743 Yes, the problem with research into high fat diets often include a level of carbs. Hence it is an error to classify some diets as high fat diets, implying that a purely high fat diet is producing the results. A broad diet high in saturated fats is dangerous, research is quite clear on that. There are genetic differences in processing high fats in the keto diet, if the person is a high cholesterol producer that is a risk but probably not as high a risk as a person who created high triglycerides from the carbs/sugars.. In a sense triglycerides lay down more plaque than ldl-c. Another factor not properly taken into account is the person's weight status..If they are losing weight at the time of the research the triglycerides should be low and not relevant. If the person is gaining weight then triglycerides and high fats are very inflammatory. Most people alternate their diets in some way going in and out of an inflammatory state. We also know that some keep on making s-protein for a long time after vaccination, others don't. If one wants to “make new mitochondria”: Methylene blue stimulates mitochondrial production by enhancing mitochondrial respiration and upregulating the expression of key mitochondrial components. It acts as an electron donor in the electron transport chain, bypassing damaged complexes and increasing the activity of complex IV. This process improves oxidative metabolism and promotes mitochondrial biogenesis, potentially through pathways like the activation of nuclear respiratory factor 1 (Nrf1), which regulates mitochondrial gene expression. Additionally, methylene blue’s redox cycling properties mitigate oxidative stress, further supporting mitochondrial health and production.
Dr. Been, can you talk about thiamin (b1 vitamin) and its impact on circulation, heart health, mitochondria and metabolic health? I was extremely oxygen deprived and it was hard on my heart and while no doctor could give me an answer because my heart was functioning fine according to doctor but I was miserable. I can across dr. I respect the mediteranean diet and dr Khambatta as he is encouraging a good way of eating. I believe every region in the world has amazing foods that locals know about. But thiamine is said to have a huge impact on blood sugar and could benefit your audience if they have the metabolic syndrome.
Look into high dose thiamine beyond just normal requirement levels as a form of medicine unto itself as it increases efficiency of mitochondrial function, it helps me a ton too, been doing it for years now and I'm taking way more than just RDI. Luckily high dose for this particular vitamin does not seem to have any downsides, just gotta keep well stocked on a few cofactors like magnesium. Also if you have brain fog, benfothiamine form of thiamine worked extra well for me beyond regular thiamine.

I'm on a diet high in pastured meat, dairy and eggs, low carb and doing fine. I cannot eat beets and the like because for the past 25 years (age 83 yrs) I get oxalemia readily with high oxalate foods. I do use khadi amla hair oil on my hair, keeping it in 24 hrs once a week. It's fantastic for my hair!
It took me a few minutes of scrolling through the comments to see one mentioning the oxalate issue. The soy issue bothers me too, but I suppose there is a chance of simply getting an improvement by a) eating less; b) realizing that some of the foods he mentions are good; c) trying the supplements for a short bit of time... and figure it out to see if you are as enthusiastic as the commentators. I can deal with that. I joked with the honest health food store staff that the NMN and other cool supplements were competing with the free stuff, good sleep, eating less, fasting... all 'free-ish'
@@Lovin_It You're right. Soy, beets, dark chocolate, are high oxalate foods. Good for those who can handle them. If I started eating these foods again I would regain bladder pain that mimics interstitial cystits. Long story short, for 3 yrs the medical doctor and the urologist could not determine what was wrong. I found out by constantly scanning the literature. "Funny" -- I remember when 9 yrs old my mom said I had to eat the beets before I could leave the table. The sight, smell, and taste of them was making me nauseous. I didn't finish them; I couldn't. Same with ruebarb, after one mouthful as a kid it has never touched my mouth. (But -- I loved spinach!) Turns out, these foods are among the highest in oxalate. As far as vessel dialation I walk up and down our local butte breathing gently with my mouth closed, as Nestor (last name) describes in his book, Breath. Takes 30 min and I don't feel my heart pumping any harder than usual. You're right. What agrees with us is highly individual, can change with age, and depends on many factors in our life.
Suspicious when high fat diets are slammed without specifying the type of fat. I am told that vinegar (a short chain fatty acid) can enter mitochondria directly ( through the mitochondrial walls) well as cause then to DIVDE!
Dr. Khambatta, I'm curious about cacao nibs - they are so high in fat, especially saturated fat. Even though they have chemistry which boosts mitochondria, doesn't this affect insulin signaling??
Question for the 2 good Dr's of this video - can I combine Amla Green or Amla berries and resveratrol?(whichever one I can get in South Africa) with Berberine and Sspirulina supplements that a chronic T2D stage 3 CKD person is taking? The Berberine and Spirulina seem to be helping him detox urea at the moment. I appreciate your help.

14:34 i take issue with the high-fat diet "bashing". I have a ton of problems with high-carb diets (health issues), but I feel great on a strong keto diet. I believe my glucose was always normal, even in keto (though on the low end of the range). But I feel great when I'm in keto--that it's unhealthy seems counterintuitive.
I am not sure I understand what was said or meant about the amount of resveratrol needed to lower glucose blood sugar. Was it 150mg per kilogram of bodyweight?
Mitochondria dysfunction is strongly linked to a B1 deficiency. 80% of the body's B1 is found within the mitochondria. B1 and B1 cofactors are necessary for producing ATP. Most mitochondria dysfunction is caused by a B1 deficiency. My husband is no longer on insulin or any diabetic meds by supplementing benfotiamine the fat soluble form of B1. He only modestly cut carbs.
@ you need therapeutic doses. benfotamine is fat soluble so it is absorbed better and passes the blood brain barrier. You don’t get benfotamine from nutrition yeast although it is manufactured using bacteria.
AI just told me that carob has an ORAC of 91,500, more than 60% greater than cacao, with a similar taste and without the caffeine-like stimulants. Wow, that surprised me.

Been taking Amla 300 mg capsules per day, A1c has improved to point medication is not needed but my triglycerides are now in high range. Been on WFPB no added SOS for 18 months. Too many nuts & seeds? Comments & Suggestions welcomed.
To let mytochondria function, they need B1 also. Depending on ones needs, the B1 needs to be higher. Of course, other nutrients are necessary. B1 creates ATP.

The ketogenic diet is practiced with a lot of variation. The paper referred to is not specific about the mix of foods. In addition response to the ketogenic varies from person to person.
I like the fact that he distinguishes various types of muscle tissue too.
Years ago, we were taught there are fast twitch, slow twitch. and intermediary muscle tissue, yet I think it's understood more in-depth now.
The molecular structure of a particular antioxidant influences into which tissues it will enter, influence, and concentrate within.
Even though they have chemistry which boosts mitochondria, doesn't this affect insulin signaling??
his company is making processed foods. it will have extra ingredients - some harmful.
Thanks!
❤ Amazing! ❤ Thank you, Drs!
What about astaxanthin? 2.6 million on the ORAC scale?
Dr. Been has good content and guest scientists. Yes, keto is not so good as it results in insulin resistance. So, a balance of carbs and fats is best?
Your "high fat diet" looks like a high carb diet.
Ding ding ding!!!
The picture of amla berries shown with a thin cover are Cape gooseberry Not Amla ( Indian gooseberry)
16:00 --- I am not going with this guy here .. Saying reducing the need for insulin (Low sugars eating) causes insulin resistance just does not make sense. Common sense must be applied in most all cases for understanding ~almost any condition...
Been is the best!
Amia berries come in many different forms for consumption. Any suggestions for the best form to use and how often?
I have low blood pressure and am prone to migraines. If I eat amla berries will my blood pressure be even lower?
It will if you eat dingle berries.
Amla guy has a photo of physalis instead of amla berry in his presentation lol...
He only modestly cut carbs.
can you just eat Nutrional yeast instead?
@ you need therapeutic doses. benfotamine is fat soluble so it is absorbed better and passes the blood brain barrier. You don’t get benfotamine from nutrition yeast although it is manufactured using bacteria.
@@rawcamino7227of course nutritional yeast is high in so many vitamins
Whats your view of Urolithin A?
Pomegranate juice if you have the right gut biome. UA is good stuff.
@@chrismyers9951Even better is to eat the white pith (pulp) in the pomegranate along with the juice.
Where do sumac bran, and cloves sit on this chart?
Photobiomodulation also affects Complex 4
Your clever mom gave you your smarts, Dr Been
AI just told me that carob has an ORAC of 91,500, more than 60% greater than cacao, with a similar taste and without the caffeine-like stimulants. Wow, that surprised me.
Do the beets need to be raw or cooked? How to prepare them please?
Easiest way to cook beets is to bake them in the oven, covered dish, 350 F for an hour or less if the are small
Raw. Bite through the husk.
Always cook root vegetables!
Improves nutrients' availability AND some, like potatoes can be lethal to digestion if eaten raw!
Can ferment - beet kvass - delicious
@@susierandall4500 no, they aren't. Drank potato juice for a long time and someone I know, eats them raw all the time
Than you
And what about the genotype like ApoE and DiO2 in this subject?
Does smoking stimulate mitochondria production?
I’m assuming an Amla gooseberry would be good for pre dinner or early AM for better digestion - like a bitterliebe type concoction.
Please elaborate on this.
Notwithstanding the valid criticisms in the comment section; perhaps we could divide the work of examining the comments on the guest's site, for a quick overview that is useful if we define the task objectively enough. Time saver, so we don't have to scroll through thousands of the same comments.
Amino acids, glutamine, leucine, and arginine needed. I know it's not food, but probably cheaper in the long run
Excellent ! Thank you both 🙏 ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
GREAGGgreat video thanks

I thought this was already disproven…? I thought the benefits was determined to be a false signal due to faulty experiments!!? 🤕🤕

Isn't high nitrates associated with increased risk of colon cancer?
Been taking Amla 300 mg capsules per day, A1c has improved to point medication is not needed but my triglycerides are now in high range. Been on WFPB no added SOS for 18 months. Too many nuts & seeds? Comments & Suggestions welcomed.
Typically high Trig = too many carbs. My last test showed A1c 5.7 and Trig 52. Was your's over 95?
To let mytochondria function, they need B1 also.
Depending on ones needs, the B1 needs to be higher.
Of course, other nutrients are necessary.
B1 creates ATP.
Love this topic!!!
OK. I gotta raise my hand ✋️.....
Why are we still doing OGTTs?
This is really a terrible measure 🤦♀️
Aside from that, this is brilliant and i appreciate you both 💯
Doing it in a lab methodology/experiment is different than as a clinical diagnostic tool.
14:25. This guy just lied aboit keto. How does lower glucose from eatting less INCREASE RESISTANCE TO INSULIN?
I wishbhe had backed ip his bold statement with some facts.
Hes just trying to cash in. Too late husstler! Lol.
How does Indian gooseberry (Alma berr) compare to the common gooseberry? I don't like the end conclusion to buy specific powder... I prefer to eat something widely available in the garden.
Then do that.
I used to love 100% dark chocolate until I learned how much lead & cadmium is in it.
Ghirardelli brand has the least amt of heavy metals, well below allowable daily amt.
Near infrared light.
Organic nonGMO soy - no other version. Coffee seed? Never heard of it.
Coffee is itself a seed
@ no one calls it a seed they call it a bean. So what is coffee seeds?
Wow why is the best diet missing here? Plant based ie no animal products. I cured quite a few diseases in 4 months following plant based whole food, low fat, highly dense nutrients… heavy metal detox. Verified by 3 drs and labs. I had tried a lot of those diets discussed. Nothing changed my health like plant based high nutrient.
Probably because you have low stomach acid. In the short term you'll feel better off meat, in the long-term you'll deplete your nutrient stores
@ I actually balanced my stomachs acids by going this route.and increased all nutrient levels, perfect labs. Been 15 yrs or more. Besides Meat is a carcinogen. Dairy inflammatory. No thanks.
@@vanessac1965 not sure what you are suggesting. My hydrochloric acid is perfectly balanced. 15+yrs plant based. The first 4 months following Anthony William’s protocol I cured the following (3 drs confirmed with labs) Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, 3 nodules on thyroid (disappeared), fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, restless leg syndrome, acid reflux, insomnia, sciatica (any inflammation issue), cholesterol and all other levels and chemistry perfect. Was told I’d have to live on meds the rest of my life and live with what meds didn’t help. So plant based has been the best for me. Stronger now than I was 20 yrs ago.

Ketogenic diet increases the risk of prediabetes and type-2 diabetics? Are you kidding me? This guy doesn't know what he is talking about...
The ketogenic diet is practiced with a lot of variation. The paper referred to is not specific about the mix of foods. In addition response to the ketogenic varies from person to person. Also his presentation focuses only on mitochondrial function. There is more to full health than mitochondrial function. The research overall shows that the med diet combined with fasting is the most effective, however I have no problem with keto diet when done properly..
100%! That is a shocking statement. I believe he isn't current with the cause of diabetes and what affects metabolic health. Let's get Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Stephen Phinney, Dr. Shawn Baker, or Dr. Eric Westman on for their input.

I at whole foods plant b ased meat here or there every once in a while a can of sardines in ater daily for my omega 3's i've found omega 3's ae better increased more from sardines than plant sources.I eat a quarter cup of rolled oats with savory spices every morning and a smoothie with a base of 2 cups filtered water and 1 cup unsweetened soy milk with half a frozen ripe banana , 1 cup of frozen wild blueberries 2 cups frozen steamed kale, 4 tablespoons of plain homemade sea moss gell with the following spices: 8 whole organic cloves,1 teaspoon each of cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper cayenne pepper. and a tablespoon of UNWEETENED ADUNA SUPER COCAO POWDER; the carnivore crowd amaze me because I get a CBC and metabolic panel every six months like clockwork and I do experiments on myself and i've found that if I increase my fat consumption leading up to the labs that no matter what kind of fat my glucose will rise even coconut cream makes it rise quite a bit. because coconut is basically all fat, however, if I eat eggs , red meat, or chicken it raises it far more than the other fats. proving that the fat crowds out your cells and doesn't allow glucose into cells where it belongs therefore it stays in your bloodstream. i;m a 44 year old black man 5'9" 154 pounds HOMA-IR 0.6 onormal blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol BNP CRP and any other lab I request, also increasing meat consumption raises creatinine , which doesn't bode well for the kidneys over time. great discussion here i'm glad to know that my ORAC study from 2018 that promted meto create my smoothie turned out to be very beneficial.
