I've seen the whole gamut of drivers in the Kia Soul from younger people to older people. Both women and men too. Its ended up appealing to a pretty wide group of buyers in spite of those early hamster commercials pitching it to millennials when it first came out. Its just an inexpensive, all-purpose vehicle that works for many drivers. There really aren't enough cars like this for a market like today's (high fuel prices, inflation, economic uncertainty).
So true! There were many other competitors to the Soul when it first came out, but the Soul is one of the few that actually survived. That says a lot about the appeal of the Soul.
I live in a beach town, and I actually purchased my Kia Soul to make it easier to fit into smaller parking spots and also to transport bass gear! It fits an Ampeg 8x10, Fender tube head, pedal board and a hardcase with ease!
Kia and Hyundai are now challenging Honda and Toyota in the way the latter have challenged American car brands since the ‘80s. To the benefit of customers everywhere.
Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai , and Kia are battling it out in the top tier......nobody other than the cult sheeple even looks at fugly, overpriced honda junk.🤑🤑🤑🤮🤮🤮
They were challenging them 15yrs ago and are now surpassing them. I read somewhere that Kia and Hyundai are making Toyota and Honda executives nervous. They make products that are more compelling for lower prices.
No, no they’re not. Just because you own one you want to believe this is true. They’re horrible quality, the deficit of any traveling down the highway beyond 10 years of age is proof. You get what you pay for, these are garbage.
I have a Kia Soul 2021 and I love it. It’s easy to park, zip on fuel, Confort seats, excellent resolution of the back camera and infotainment and more than adequate power for the city or the highway. I would buy another one for my son to go to college.
Love the Soul, but afraid that it's reaching the end of its production cycle. It's the perfect vehicle for the mobility impaired. Huge doors, high hip-point seating, low hatch lift-over height, and tons of headroom. Easy to accommodate a folding walker or wheelchair in the cargo area. Plus good gas mileage and VALUE priced, as Zack stated. And the surf blue is awesome, especially if optioned with the black painted roof! 🎨 I always enjoy your videos.
I have the 2024 LX trim in white. I love this vehicle. I got the tech trim package because I needed blind side detect but don't use anything else... not even the radio or phone stuff because I do not access the phone at all while driving and for all I care they can remove the radio I'll never use it. I would use Waze but the problem is I know everywhere I'm going anyway.

I have the 2020 Soul EV limited, is awesome, top trim and lots of get up and go, reasonably quiet, great efficiency typically on ou trip to Calgary we see about 18.3kwh per 100km and that is cruising at about 5 to 8km/he over the posted speed on a 64kwh battery
Another great start to my Saturday. Thanks for a great video. Always love your closing remarks standing by the car, including when Zack comes out with a wise crack! Love you guys.
We've had our 2018 EX top trim level 4.5 years with zero problems. When my wife suggested we get a Soul, I'd avert my gaze whenever we drove by one. BUT, then we went and tried one out and it was too obvious it was the correct car for us. We are seniors and this car is excellent for that group of people. I haven't driven any other vehicle which provides such a high level of visibility. Easy to get in and out of and the seats don't pinch old butts. I am so happy the trim has kept all of the features we like and added more like lane follow assist.

They impress me enough, but I’ve never driven one (yet). I need to try to get some more feedback or seat time, before I make my conclusions on this Kia and your impressions help. Thanks for the video.
Last fall weekend to take out the four section dock at Aylen Lake. I could use a spare set of hands since my kids started University. So … its ice cold water, beers and campfires for the rest of my (and Wife’s) weekend. Cheers!
Agreed Marc, it's really not a requirement for most people, especially with a good set of snow tires, but people have been conditioned to believe AWD is needed
I find that really strange too. Everyone was driving FWD cars in snowstorms for the better part of 3 decades. Now it seems everyone thinks they MUST have AWD to drive in Florida rain. Utterly ridiculous.
I got my Kia Soul 2023 surf blue in November last year! So far I love it! I love the color and the new design. Easy to drive, all the fancy safety features, and I only need to fill up the gas every 3 weeks (I live in Hawaii) and it costs only $50!!!!! If you are thinking about getting mini cooper or honda cvr, Kia Sou is what you should get!!
I bought this car because I wanted something easy to get in and out of and tons of visibility for around town I bought a 2022 I cannot believe how much I love this car it has surpassed every single expectation I had for it when I drove it off the lot
Thank you for the review! I own a older Kia Soul and have had zero problems. I've decided to buy a new Kia solely based on your detailed and insightful reviews. Leaning towards the US EV Seltos version. Dream car Discovery.
I wonder why KIA Canada doesn't have the 10 Year 100,000 mile (160000km) powertrain warranty, like KIA has in the US. It seems Canada is getting short changed in this department.
First I want to say I really love your review style. You two have great chemistry and deliver information in an enjoyable and pleasant manner. Keep it up! The Soul seems like an interesting vehicle and a great value. It packs a lot of style, features, space, and practicality into a small vehicle for a good price. I'm not a fan of the huge protruding grill, but the overall design is interesting and fun. I'm impressed with how Kia created that digital instrument cluster. For a budget design, it looks great and is easy to read. The Koreans are really killing it with design and tech these days. It's hard not to find them appealing.
Wanna talk protruding grill have a look at the Lexus. You wanna talk UGLY that thing leads the ugly pack. Great car though but I don't like the price not even a little bit.
Soul's have a fairly unique, endearing "personality" combination of being frivolous, yet practical. I've rented Kia Souls 4x, great little car for a couple on a road trip. Ingress & egress, functional, comfortable interior, great visibility, and reasonable comfort. Only negatives were a somewhat choppy ride and mediocre MPG. Reminds me of another favorite rental car of the past -- the Chrysler PT Cruiser! I might have purchased the last gen Soul EV if they had brought it to the USA. Instead I got a Kia Niro PHEV.
I've never owned a Soul but I find this vehicle very appealying as far as styling and features are concerned. This colour reminds me also of the one you can find on certain Cadillac models.
Great car review! I've always love the kia soul from a far but I really enjoyed riding it as a rental. Zach kudos to you for stepping up your fashion with Andrea. You make buying a car very fun! Blessings!
I have a 2021 S model in the U.S. So far I really like it, but I like the upgrades and additional features to the 2023, especially the new front end. If on a budget, I’d get the base model with that safety package.
I've often thought of the Soul as an "urbanized" compact car. When scouting for our daughter several years ago, I noted that the suspension on the Soul did not absorb bumps well, and gas mileage on the highway is hampered by the boxy shape. Still, a lot to like if you are mostly driving around town on smooth roads. P.S. - she is petite and ended up with a VW Golf, upper trim level; she really loves it.
Thanks for great review ! We are waiting for our 2023 EX+ in Surf blue arriving in April 2023. This will be 3rd Soul & my wife won't drive anything else. We live in Calgary. Ideal vehicle for us Senior Dog owners :- )!
I’m always impressed with Andrea's knowledge and logic on vehicles. I drove several 2022 Soul's and was impressed by the refinement, fit, and quality of this car. Shutting the door is a vault like solid sound and I felt it had good power. But in the U.S. the stereo on the EX was terrible and to go up to a better stereo would have been thousands of dollars for the next level. Also felt the GT top level should had offered extra horsepower.
I have a 2016 kia soul with the 2.0 liter engine and have NO problem with power. Can easily accelerate going uphill (6% grade) without breaking a sweat. Won't start off the line like a V8, but it has more than enough pep to take off like a rocket when I want it to.
I wouldnt think of the Trailblazer as a competitor to it. 4x4 vs FWD & I view the Soul as more of a car than an suv. Ive never owned a Soul but I was with someone who was looking at an older one. I have always thought they were ugly. I still do but after riding in one, I was fairly impressed. Im a bigger guy & it was pretty easy for me to get in & out of it. It definitely wont be winning drag races but I view it as a very practical vehicle.
I always love Kia Soul. I have consider a Soul before I purchase the current Civic. If its available with the optional 1.6T as its Seltos does, I probably have bought it.
the Kia Soul is a hatchback with an odd shape, the Trax is a sub compact crossover. in other words, the Soul is more like a regular car, but in terms of noise the Trax is probably quieter.
Oh that’s a loud machine. Nice interior. I like the boxy design because it’s makes you feel lot of space. They could add a hybrid. I wish they offer a 4 wheel drive too. Only missing is the power back door. Good mileage. 👍🏻
@@andreaspencer9813 I don’t know if you remember this vehicle, my sister use to have VW Jetta back in 80’s and it was a boxy vehicle but so much room inside.
That is a nice blue Andrea 💙 A 1.6 liter engine in such a small frame has to be quick? Zack always loves the Kia approach to interia equipment mix of buttons and dials with some level of touchscreen element.
We owned the first three generations of Kia Soul and loved them. Totally reliable. Incredible interior space and class-above content in a 164" long package. But I was always bummed that the fun colors only come in the lower trims. I'm with Zach about the DCT - I disliked it. That and no AWD is why we moved to an XC-40. I wish Kia would deliver an AWD BEV Soul to the USA, but Kia seems to be on the "keep it cheap and basic" path with the Soul. The Kia Soul is the official city car of Asheville NC and the state car of Florida. They excel in the city. I find the new trims completely confusing. The marketing team must have been stoned. The one negative about the Soul - heavy depreciation. As a guy who gets a new car every 2-3 years, it's actually cheaper for me to own a loaded XC-40 R-Design T5. Doesn't seem that could be true, but it is. I'm guessing it's all those fleet Souls flooding the market.
Depreciation isn't an issue for me this is my last vehicle. I keep all vehicle for a long, long time. Just ditched my 2000 F350 because I couldn't get up into it anymore (or I'd still have it). The Soul is the perfect vehicle for people that are physically impaired such as myself. Its absolutely the easiest vehicle to egress... period. My brother has a RAV4 and he could not believe the difference neither could his wife.
@@evanlandry9503 I agree. I also feel an 8-way power passenger seat would be a class-exclusive. Not sure why they think we don’t care about fancy features in a subcompact.
this would be an ideal car for my daughter, but she does not like the way the back end just ends...she is looking at an Impreza..which to me looks kinda similar..??agreed..good show tires and fwd will be just fine for winter..as long as you drive accordingly..great value in this for all the features..and base model fairly well equipped too..the Korean companies are just putting out great products..hopefully their engine woos are figured out..have a great day
My wife loves the Seltos and the Soul. We have been looking for awhile but nothing out there. Our Kia dealer here in Fredericton have stopped ordering has they can not get anything and we want another Kia and the service here is awlsome. I love the blue color on your test Soul and and my wife likes the blue color of Andrea's sweater.
This is cute chipper wholesome pleasant, slightly cheesy in a good way type couple. I haven't seen one of these in years! Same warm feeling I get around my parents. :)
Car is nice...but dealers in California are charging extra $1000 plus LoJack system to the sticker..making it $28000 plus tax and registration and transportation fees...then they want you to purchase a extended warranty gap insurance paint protection lifetime oil changes ...I wish you could buy one at msrp price.....no ups or extras...other than tax and registration...
Please include is the engine direct injection, port injection, or both. depending on which type of injection would make the difference on a purchase for me.
I went to the dealer in Surrey to try to lease one. The EX was $28k but they told me it would be $38k after dealer fees, tax, environmental levy and interest. 😮 Not a $40k car to me.
My dog owner friends love this vehicle. Cheap on gas, good space for everyday city use Great for packing stuff for camping. I wonder if they can create and elongated model to create even more space.
@@palebeachbum not corrected with the recall, just monitored. However you have to get the recall done (software update to detect engine sounds) if you want the warranty on the engine to be valid (I think)
@@dforrest4503 yes I believe that's correct, but they are replacing engines that have already developed knocked from being run too low on oil due to the oil consumption issue.
Such a weird decision to exclude ventilated seats in the US considering overall it's warmer than Canada and would be a very, very welcome feature in the south and southwest states.

how's it going Zack & Andrea hey I got 2 question I'm from U.S but now living in Canada I noticed here in Canada the cars to me engine wise and power wise feel different then in U.S they feel more powerful and strong here and drive handle good. so my question is I am stuck between getting a Seltos 2024 EX Premium package they have here & then now your Kia soul 2023 video had me convinced lol I never liked the box or ever owned one but seeing your videos the way u handling it looked good should I wait on the 2024 Kia Soul GT - Line Limited package they got or should I go for the Seltos 2024 EX premium. I fell in love with the Seltos look and performance upgrades from the 2023 version at first I was also wanting to go with the Kia Forte 2023 Gt Limited. but overall all 3 cars look great! what's your pros & cons on them & what u prefer? like I know I'm not gonna be driving a mustang or corvette or Camaro but I need something that will handle going to work home driving at nights from work or days and it's pretty much highways back n fourth as we live kinda far like 30 - 40 mins from work & also winter snow performance I wanna make sure I'm driving something handy & good for bad weather ya know? :)
@@CalgaryGuy71yeah here in canada the vehicles are alot faster & feel more stronger then when i drove the one in u.s seemed slugish & slower compared to what i have same package & trims & deff huge difference i prefer my canadian car other vehicles here feel more faster esp in the gears i had couple cars there in u.s and the suvs and truck just have that slow slugish pace & when i moved to canada i tried some of the same trims & cars they felt alot faster & gears went in smoothly which is wierd lol here we have more highways then town roads maybe why there built that way idk but i still have my trucks in u.s i love so much
Would like to have heard about steering wheel road feel, radio quality, infotainment (any lag)... besides that, good review. Do like the alternative section of three new one used.
The 22 GT-Line Limited has the flat bottomed steering wheel because we own one. It’s our second Soul. The 14 SX model we had was smashed in an accident. Wish we still had it because it was paid for six months prior to the accident. We had absolutely no issues with only minor warranty repairs. There were 110,000kms on the odometer. It was well taken care of and our insurance co. gave us $13,500cdn as a settlement for a 7yo car. Took the sting out having to buy a new car.
$29.5K Canadian is $21.7K USD. This trim in the United States lacks ventilated seats, and costs $27.1K USD... how the heck does Canada get a better car for essentially $5K less $$$?
I've always thought the Kia Soul would be cool if they gave it a two speed 4x4 system ( kinda like the old Suzuki Samurai) 🤔. Ooo and it the sweater/ lady I'm sure of that.
I love the SOUL and will be getting one in 2024 if they are still making them. I don't like the Seltos at all, so if there's no SOUL next year I'll probably look elsewhere or grab a new 2023 if one is available then.
why couldn’t they add a moonroof and make the car just a tad bit bigger? I have a 2011 scion xb that looks a lot more spacious than this. That’s the key with box cars: space.
With good tires, it’s fine. We don’t need AWD just for your daily driving. Nokian, Continental, Gislaved… La Belle Province say’s I to you, with his snow, holes and weird roads 😂
I love my surf blue '23, but I'm disappointed that the talk button on the left side of the steering wheel is useless. On my '20 Soul I could use it to change what I'm listening to on Pandora or set a destination on Google maps.
I'll replace the Chevy Trailblazer (it belongs in the upper subcompact CUV segment) with the upcoming Trax. That vehicle will be the Soul biggest rival. Like all vehicles in the US, it will be marked up to the stratosphere. 😔
Looking at a new Kia as my next car, going from a Ford Five Hundred, that used to be reliable, but is now breaking every few months. I'm torn between the Soul and the Forte.
CVT's kill all the driving dynamic for most of models that are equiped with. It was a pretty fun car before that cvt, i would never buy a car with cvt's...👎. Good review, as always 🤙
Do yourself a favor and DONT BUY a 2023 or newer kia soul as they ONLY offer the 147 hp engine. Go buy a used 2022 turbo kia soul with 201 hp....I OWN ONE and they are so fast and fun to drive!!!

Kia is doing something right with the Soul, it’s outlasted the Scion, HHR, Cube and other boxy competitors.
I believe the Trailblazer is FWD … or AWD (no longer 4WD).
@@kellingtonlink956 maybe the new one which is way off the older style of Trailblazer & shouldnt even share the name. I had an '05 & it was 4x4
I always love Kia Soul. I have consider a Soul before I purchase the current Civic. If its available with the optional 1.6T as its Seltos does, I probably have bought it.
No no no, Honda, Toyota and Mazda are the top 3 cars in the World. Stick to Honda, don't buy Korean cars
@@Alysswed Those cars are all much more expensive.
@@palebeachbum you get what you pay for
Nice review (and a beautiful blue...sweater)! This or a Chevy Trax? How do they compare in noise, smoothness, power & practicality? Thanks!
the Kia Soul is a hatchback with an odd shape, the Trax is a sub compact crossover.
in other words, the Soul is more like a regular car, but in terms of noise the Trax is probably quieter.
Oh that’s a loud machine. Nice interior. I like the boxy design because it’s makes you feel lot of space. They could add a hybrid. I wish they offer a 4 wheel drive too. Only missing is the power back door. Good mileage. 👍🏻
That's what I like about it, the boxy design creates such an open cabin, I see why it works for so many people.
@@andreaspencer9813 I don’t know if you remember this vehicle, my sister use to have VW Jetta back in 80’s and it was a boxy vehicle but so much room inside.
That is a nice blue Andrea 💙 A
1.6 liter engine in such a small frame has to be quick? Zack always loves the Kia approach to interia equipment mix of buttons and dials with some level of touchscreen element.
Thank you! Kia does a really good job with keeping their interiors practical. Who doesn't love buttons!
@@andreaspencer9813 Very well said Andrea, I prefer a sensible mix of buttons and touchscreen also.
The gt line doesnt have the option for all surf blue color like the one they are test driving? Only comes blue with the black top option
Love that new color! I have a 21 Soul with the dark blue color
I only liked Jeeps and Mokes, but boxy cars have grown on me. It was the Honda Element that started it.
hahahahah 12:22 oh the shade Zac! I totally agree. Honda has fell so far behind they're not even in many consumers minds anymore.
Bought one yesterday.
If the gave the US Soul ventilated seats, I would 100% consider one. Interesting that's only in Canada.
it is a strange omission from our market. and especially because I believe the Soul previously offered ventilated seats in the US. 🤔
@@evdanielsson7 Yup, it did. Kinda strange, since I feel like it would boost sales of the top model....
@@evanlandry9503 I agree. I also feel an 8-way power passenger seat would be a class-exclusive. Not sure why they think we don’t care about fancy features in a subcompact.
this would be an ideal car for my daughter, but she does not like the way the back end just ends...she is looking at an Impreza..which to me looks kinda similar..??agreed..good show tires and fwd will be just fine for winter..as long as you drive accordingly..great value in this for all the features..and base model fairly well equipped too..the Korean companies are just putting out great products..hopefully their engine woos are figured out..have a great day
The last Soul I drove had the 6-speed auto, I might prefer the CVT's smoothness!
CVTs are much smoother. Great for city driving.
i bought the used RVR for the wife long warranty she loves it
Love, love LOVE the Soul. (Just wish it came with a choice of interior colours other than black). Will you be reviewing the EV model?
Not that it's much more exciting, but the base LX offers a 2-tone black and gray interior option.
14:45 good for weekend drives? Use in & around toronto city
I want to buy mine in the USA to get the two-tone roof. I love boxy cars and this is king IMO.
Ventilated seats in Canada, but not the US? How does that make any sense?
I love the seat highth same as the Tesla model Y, so for a person over 60, easy to get in and out!
Hmm.. I wonder what to get for $26k: a brand new Kona or a 5 year old Mitsubishi RVR with 64k km. What a dilemma. Can someone help me out?
In Europe, we have an electric version with 201hp and FWD.
We have it here too.
Yes, the same model is available in Canada, but no longer in the US.
@@andreaspencer9813 Kinda strange it's not sold in the US but sold in Canada.
@@DaveDVideoMaker It used to be available in the US but not anymore.
@@andreaspencer9813 OK then.
I went to the dealer in Surrey to try to lease one. The EX was $28k but they told me it would be $38k after dealer fees, tax, environmental levy and interest. 😮 Not a $40k car to me.
Straight out of the movie Cars
My dog owner friends love this vehicle. Cheap on gas, good space for everyday city use
Great for packing stuff for camping. I wonder if they can create and elongated model to create even more space.
The Seltos is about $1,000 more comparably equipped and it's slightly bigger.
@@palebeachbum i like the look of the Seltos over this.
@@pankajnalavde Me too. It looks more upscale inside and out.
Love the color.
It’s a cute little car 🚙
Review the 2023 Hyundai Kona next, please 🙂
Speaking of Quebec driving please tell me where I can find a new soul gt for less than 30000$
The blue sweater for sure...
Do they still have problems with the 2.0l engine?
Supposedly the piston ring defect that affects 2019-2021 models was recalled and has been corrected. Time will tell.
I have a 2014 Soul that I love. This year is my year, hopefully, to get my new 2023 Soul🤞🏻. Apparently they are starting to roll in now
Oh thats awesome! I have a 2014 kia soul and just bought the Kia soul 2023 gt line with tech package in inferno red and I LOVE IT! It's a fun and neat car ❤
how's it going Zack & Andrea hey I got 2 question I'm from U.S but now living in Canada I noticed here in Canada the cars to me engine wise and power wise feel different then in U.S they feel more powerful and strong here and drive handle good. so my question is I am stuck between getting a Seltos 2024 EX Premium package they have here & then now your Kia soul 2023 video had me convinced lol I never liked the box or ever owned one but seeing your videos the way u handling it looked good should I wait on the 2024 Kia Soul GT - Line Limited package they got or should I go for the Seltos 2024 EX premium. :)
You might be at a different elevation than you were in the US. That could contribute to a vehicle's performance a little bit.
I have the 2023 Kia Soul Base. I don’t know why, but the base has wireless apple CarPlay / Android Auto, as the higher trims don’t..
Big screens with navie are wired
I own a 2019, which I love. Would look at this, but unfortunately, they went CVT. Too bad.
why couldn’t they add a moonroof and make the car just a tad bit bigger? I have a 2011 scion xb that looks a lot more spacious than this. That’s the key with box cars: space.
Taking away the turbo takes the soul away from the soul. Owned the turbo model it was a fun little car with a nice amount of tech.
With good tires, it’s fine. We don’t need AWD just for your daily driving. Nokian, Continental, Gislaved… La Belle Province say’s I to you, with his snow, holes and weird roads 😂
Another great review. Too bad they didn't keep the turbo model for enthusiasts.
🇺🇸 looks fun! Where's the hamsters?
Garbage Motors hired them to work on its upcoming copy.....🙄
I love my surf blue '23, but I'm disappointed that the talk button on the left side of the steering wheel is useless. On my '20 Soul I could use it to change what I'm listening to on Pandora or set a destination on Google maps.
I'll replace the Chevy Trailblazer (it belongs in the upper subcompact CUV segment) with the upcoming Trax. That vehicle will be the Soul biggest rival. Like all vehicles in the US, it will be marked up to the stratosphere. 😔
Lol.. GM turbo careful
One of the journalists called it Continuously Annoying Transmission.
Mighta been Zack, actually 😎
Do yourself a favor and DONT BUY a 2023 or newer kia soul as they ONLY offer the 147 hp engine.
Go buy a used 2022 turbo kia soul with 201 hp....I OWN ONE and they are so fast and fun to drive!!!
Andrea looked ltalian with that blue shirt, in the photo with the car!
I thing is the sweater the blonde beautiful lady behind the wheel 🤣👌👍👍👍💋✌️🙏👏 thanks for sharing
Sure wish they still offered the turbo engine.
Good review guys. Looks cute but sales not there. Never see them on the road. Keep the reviews coming guys and your Sunday show. 👍
In Canada or the US? Because in the US, these cars are everywhere.
Good point . I should have in Toronto 👍
