2020 Kia Soul | Tripping Over Itself

- We review the new Kia Soul Turbo CUV in a video that focuses on features that work and those that don't. We talk about the base and loaded trim along with some of the technical parts of the underbody. Other products to consider are the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Kona, Honda HRV, Mazda CX30 and Toyota RAV4. While the Soul has some of the best cargo capacity in the class it tends to walk a different path.

Good point on the useless wireless charger that charges slow.. no one else mentioned that detail in any of there reviews of this. Shows you tested it out and told us the truth.👍🏾
Thats the Difference in paid journalists or "reviewers" and him.
Thank you for keeping it real in all your reviews.
I feel like wireless charging is pointless as you still need to plug your phones in to use apple CarPlay and android auto.
Yeah if you are looking for an honest review, he is the best.
@@niuhuskieguy There is now wireless Carplay in some new cars (VW), but it is just useless...it drains battery so quick that the wireless charging just can`t keep up :)
@@snowman0008 That is just CarPlay, and even that is not widespread.
My daughter purchased a brand new 2013 Kia Soul and she loved everything about it, until she had to sell it because she moved to NYC where she no longer needed a vehicle. The great thing was as a base model it only cost her $14K . She was elated. She is in the market for another vehicle now, and I am sure she will get another Soul. I will recommend that she get the base model again thanks to this review.

I would never buy a car without watching this channel. Period. You know more about cars than other reviewers. Good job!
Four Site and it’s not just the normal obsession with sporty handling, he understands what real people want from cars.
Gandalf721 yup If you are doing a commute every day you just want to be comfortable.
It just makes him a non-enthusiast.
halo hunter he reviews enthusiast cars for enthusiasts, and suburban parent cars for suburban parents
Review channels like this almost never talk about the car's reliability. They just talk about how fast it is and how sporty. If you're planning to buy a car to keep it for 5-6 years, a mechanic's advice would be much better. (Scotty Kilmer/Car Wizard/ Ratchet & Wrench etc.)
I feel this is built for ride share drivers. With all the flashing lights. Weekend passengers bar hooping may like it.
Makes sense
Yeah it’s fun if you don’t have to live with it every day but who’s spending this much when you can get a GTI or Fiesta ST for this much money?
@@orapasc they are in a completly different class and car type, so the comparison doesnt fit, its cuv not a true hatchback
@@muslimfrmthp "True"
Stereo Typist that’s where the independent rear suspension would be handy. The probably did the suspension that way to give more cargo room.
Tomorrow's news: "Man dies of Hi-Fi induced seizure"
... my '19 WRX base 6.5" Starlink unit is just as bad (minus all the lights). Down low, it is soo boomy and muddy, but as you get high in the volume numbers (30+), the overboosted bass calms down and the sound levels out; but by then, it is really, really loud
@@K03sport I meant the flashing lights synced to the music
@@K03sport Is that also a Harman Kardon system? My wife's '18 Impreza has one and it's so bad there are lawsuits over it.

If one is proned to light induced seizures, then he or she shouldn't buy this small SUV. Problem solved.
Your videos are awesome! The only youtuber I know that actually cares to go more in depth and really look at the car for what it is and not just the gimmicks. You describe what any car will be like to live with long term and not only drive. Will always get a 👍 from me! That ending is hilarious!
Jonathan Rhodes he at least tries to respect the cars, which really helps. I may not be looking to buy a Kia finance car, but show me a good honest take on it.
You have never watched doug de muro?
@@wariodominguez8068 no I can't say that I have. Maybe I should give him a try.
Wario Dominguez Doug’s all about the gimmicks! He just calls them “quirks and features”... Don’t get me wrong, I like Doug’s videos, but he’s more about entertainment, Goose is more of a serious car reviewer!
Front of that vehicle: "I have no soul but I must scream"
A Harlan Ellison reference? I'm here for it!
This 2020 model looks a lot better than previous Soul models.
Travelin' Ted i hated the old soul bodystyles, but this 2020 redesign actually looks pretty sweet. Im probably buying a 2021 kia Soul S trim tomorrow because its the best bang for the buck car.
I love all your car review videos! The level of production quality and honest information I get from these is unequivocal!
I miss you opening the hood and talking about the motor, how easy it is to change headlight bulbs and other misc items. It was something almost no one else did, and was super useful.
This is a good comment.
Literally a night club in the Kia Soul
I just discovered your videos a few weeks ago while doing some research on the new Mazda 3 and I’m really enjoying them. I don’t always understand all of the technical details, but I love hearing them. I also like the fact that you give your honest opinions, instead of spewing out the bland positivity that most reviewers get caught up in.
This car is hilarious, a disco on wheels, right? I think it will please it’s target audience, kids in their early 20’s who want to rev the engine and spin the (front) wheels, while cranking the bass and flashing the dance lights.
Thank you for the funny at the end, and for reviewing a vehicle that the masses can buy.
Very cool stats talking about the rear end suspension architecture. Love hearing that insight that we simply cannot get anywhere else.
Excellent review! I can’t wait for your take on the 2021 Kia Seltos. Your reviews are the best.
Your reviews are a gift to us all.
Another excellent review!
Thorough, concise, unbiased.
Thank you
I appreciate the goose's two reviews on this car especially in the two trims to give the puts and takes. His take on the base trim value prop totally makes sense.
When you stop looking for the party and realize you ARE the party!
I think the Soul is a very well balanced and packaged vehicle for its target market. A young, and most likely a student, will enjoy the upgraded infotainment, versatile interior and the efficiency and practicality combination.
Students will need their parents money to buy this box on wheels.
This car is so simple, so blatant, so good from a design perspective.
The interior is simple? Not even close, did you watch the review?
wow, I have watched a lot of reviews on this car, and u are knocking the hell out of it!!
Mark, great work - as always.
Euro Beat Acid trip intensifies....
Good review, another thing to note is seniors and people with mobility issues tend to love soul's for their ease of getting in and out.
Really loving these super colourful indoor detail shots throughout these videos.
Really love your reviews, some of the best on the 'tube.
Awesome review This channel deserves a million subs
I have a price of less than 18k in the base model with standard shift. I appreciate all the detail you put in your presentations.
Thank god the hilarious outros are back. Also, love your reviews. I'm not in the market to buy a car at all and yet here I sit watching the reviews.
I am always so impressed by your insight and recommendations. Your Mazda 3 review is the best on UA-cam. I know there are many cars on your list to evaluate, but I’d love your impressions on the Forte GT, with the rear independent suspension and same drivetrain.
I test drove a new one 2 years ago. It had the the naturally aspirated engine. I live in a rural area. The engine power was good for the city. BUT, couldn’t get out of its own way. It was a windy day that day. And could only get up to 80kph. It’s that bread box design. I did like the good visibility. I love watching your videos. The honesty is much appreciated.
80 km/h? I own one of these and have not experienced this at all, it'll fly in wind at 140 no problem. Not that I'd recommend it, the wind isn't inconsequential.
ItsJustBrenton where do you live. I live in northern Alberta. It was a pretty windy day. Wind speeds of 40-50kmh. Add going up hill as well. That a average Alberta summer day. I wasn’t to impressed with the soul.
Well, I for one love my Kia Soul. I have a 2015 model, and sure, it's no sports car, but it was never meant to be. In city driving, which is what mine does 100% of the time, it is a fun, quick, responsive car, and does what it needs very well. Roomy. Fantastic turn radius. Maneuverable. Efficient. And most of all, FUN! And I think they look great too!
I would totally buy a KIA SOUL if I were young and in college again!
The Eastern European in me loves the LEDs
The everything in me loves the LEDs.
@@justinluttrell1769 yes! My MINI has basic LEDs and I love those
Too bad the rest of the car at this trim range is lame and underwhelming. Not to mention the fact that the lights PAIRED exclusively to the stereo is awful, in his review he proved how the stereo was lame. bleh
@@roboticvenom1935 not a great car but it's just nice to see something different once in a while.
@@roboticvenom1935 If it's anything like my 2012 Soul, you can change the light settings so they're not always pulsing to the music, you can change the sensitivity and all so they can be steady on if you want.
I have a 2022 Kia Soul LX with the technology package (close to base model). It gives you all the driver safety aids and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I had the choice between the GT- line and the LX, now that I saw this review I’m happy I made the right choice.
One of the best reviewers on youtube
This is the best car review that I have ever watched ..... Great job with the honest answers .....
Just bought a 2023 Soul LX for my son for his first car. Well equipped as a base trim, handles well, drives well, very quiet, great gas mileage, excellent interior space.
Most entertaining car videos.period.
OMG! Thank you for the ending!!!
At last, my car can be a Winamp visualizer on the inside.
It really whips the llama's ass.
You bought me a first class ticket on the way back machine with the Winamp reference.
Great lighting in this one. Reflecting the party lights in the car, which are cool, I have to admit, just like your music choice. This one you buy for the looks and the interior space. The good infotainment and bass heavy sound system caters to the needs of the intended buyers.
Thank you for this video! Very informative, I feel more confident in buying the lower tier trim and save myself money
Excellent review! Rented the last gen recently, and was amazed at the lane-keep assist. Surprised you didn't review that, I think that would be a big plus in a cheap car like this. Also, a big fan of the greenhouse effect, made driving & parking in downtown Toronto a breeze
Really like that your reviews include the lift under body exam. After seeing your 2020 Chevy Equinox review that showed how the under body was exposed to road salt, debris, etc and sloppy sealant application. I'm hoping my 2015 Camry LE I got 2 yrs old Cert Pre-Owned off a lease is better assembled from plant in Georgetown KY. Agree with Four Site that your review is a must before seriously consider a new or used car. Thanks for all you and your team does.
I bought one after liking the styling, room, and seeing the consumer report score. Wife made me get the turbo for all the safety features, leds, radar cruise, active lane keep assist (that I don’t think you mentioned) and tech. I love it because it’s hilarious, and reminds me of one of my kids’ hot wheels cars. Commuting can be Fun.
I love your reviews, I think you're the only one who isn't secretly trying to sell it.
Great review as per usual!
Great review! You did a fantastic honest review. Pointing out good and bad points, not like other reviews I've read saying great cool car. Plus - what I like- the price point ,is the high end models worth it. Thanks for the honest review.
I've got an Elantra sport, same engine but a manual. I dont notice much torque steer but I do notice the tires wanting to brake loose and a ton of wheel hop.
Very good and fair review. I bought a 2020 Soul for my wife. I picked the S model for exactly the reasons mentioned. More is not necessarily better on this car. I must add, although I have only had to change the oil, this car looks like a dream to maintain. Everything is easily accessible on this car.
Does it burn oil?
Agreed. Just did an POV review of the S trim after a week in it. Loved it.
This was a refreshingly truthful review.
Nice video with good points. I have the 2020 Soul GT Line minus the turbo and love the car. Will agree the start stop is on the hyper side, but still use it and have gotten used to it.
Great video. I just bought a 2019 Kia Soul! with the turbo used as a secondary car. I actually love it. My main ride is a diesel 2022 RAM 2500 and for me the parking, picking up kids, and buzzing around, I love it. It’s fast. But it’s basically my hail car and I don’t really care about it. But I actually love this little thing and it’s s nice relief from driving locomotive around with my RAM
always killing it with the synthwave
Great videos! We want to see more of Turbowski. More commentary from Turbowski!
Was never really interested in the Kia Soul but the review was very informative. I think they should keep it basic, there honestly is no need for a Turbo.
I bought an kia rio 2 years ago I love it never had any issues with it it, s comfortable and for me fast enough. The kia soul is not for everyone however it's unique I think :)
Great review for an average car.
Appreciate it.
Love your videos
That was the best outro in ages.
Was driving next to a 2020 Soul EX from light to light earlier today and was thinking, damn that's a rather good looking practical vehicle. Now I'm interested in getting one.
I'm kind of glad at least someone out there gave this car a more honest review instead of the usual things most car reviewers talk about.
This 1.6T engine with the DCT is also a carryover from previous model years and is found in any number of other Kia/Hyundai products.
For the price of around $30k, you can easily get yourself a more fun vehicle (Like the Mazda CX-series), a more practical vehicle (Like a RAV4 Hybrid), or a more off road worthy vehicle (Like a Jeep) in the SUV department.
love the outro!
Ahhhh what better way to start my Monday than with some savagegeese action!!
Link me to that rad music for the light test please! I loved it!

I just had this thought that you are the TotalBiscuit of car reviews, but somehow still alive.
Thanks for adding the lower trim features
I'm on my 2nd kia soul. That's all I drive these days. Cheap, economical, good on gas, and runs great with little maintenance involved. Just oil changes. I liked my 2013 better than my current 2016. My 2016 2.0L does use a quart of oil every 3,000 miles. I run full synthetic mobil one.
You're my favorite car channel, is there anyway to support you?

Love my cherry black 2020 Turbo Soul. This car is so fun to drive. Reminds me of the 90s and my 91 Eclipse Turbo.
What a tremendous explanation of this car, and the difference between comparing this '20 Soul to previous generations vs comparing it to something in the same category, but much more refined, such as the Mazda CX-30. It's also refreshing to hear a reviewer dare to describe any facet of a popular vehicle as "...a total disaster," or that an otherwise decent powertrain (turbo/DCT) seemed simply "slapped-in" to this car, without the proper development of the car, as a whole, to maximize the benefit of this costly, highest trim level.
I love my 2016 soul would love to upgrade to this one
9:18 Yes, thank you for pointing this out!
Great review
15:00 cute bracelet Mark.
I lowkey really like the gt line. Looks like a baby range rover to me.
Only savagegeese can make a 17 min video about the Kia Soul enjoyable to watch. I hope 2020 is your year, man.
I could not care less about the kia soul or whatever other cross things. But i watch all of your videos because you are honest and provide a thorough perspective of wherever you are reviewing. I learn what i should be looking for. My favorite part is anything without mr. Scott Turbowky. He hurt my brain. I am relieved the pain is gone.
Okay Mark, I watch all your reviews. Very good and honest. I enjoy it when you team up with Jack. Good cop, bad cop, which is which, I don't know.
You drive so many cars. Which cars get you or Jack excited? Cars that you would like to own? Maybe at $30k, $45k, or $60k?
Ahh, the lack of refinement/swapped motor comment is bringing back some fine memories of my old civic with a B16A2 swapped in.
I kinda miss those days lol
Was happy to see this, while low on the list topped by the FiST, it is now removed.
wheres Scott been?!
Probably quarantined
I think it would be fun to see a video reviewing the cheapest manual transmission cars like the Chevy Spark, Kia Rio and Toyota Yaris. Nothing crazy in depth, just you impressions of what they would be like to drive every day.
Ask anyone who owns a soul, much like a Subaru, you end up loving it. The Kia soul has impressed me more than most cars. My roommate has a 14 and it gets the snot beaten out of it every day, and keeps going! There is no reason it need to be as quick as it is, but that's part of the charm. Same for the off-road capabilities, for a front wheel drive car, this thing does much better than most for light off-roading. It's not perfect, but it is a good car, if you need a cheap car. That's the thing, it's cheap, you can beat the hell out of it and fix it for much less than mistt
Being able to get a base, or a step up for less than 20k is incredibly impressive.
There are base models on dealer lots for 13-14k no joke. The base model is spartan and frankly brutal, but they do exist. Go on cargurus.
I'd love to see a review on the Hyundai Elantra GT N-Line. It uses the same 1.6T and 7spd DCT from the Soul, but you get a "tuned" suspension, faster steering ratio, stiffer engine mounts, and a multi-link rear. I recently bought one, and I'm absolutely loving it. It would be interesting to hear your opinion on the car. I love your reviews! So honest and unbiased. Thanks!

I have my 2020 LX 6 spd for a month now, and enjoy it as a commuter, pretty fun to drive for being a base model. Really wished it came with a keyless entry though, but I did get the car for 13k which is really a steal. And no ugly piano black plastic, just a simple yet stylish interior that will age well
Did you get a black one?
@@chocolatewheelchair it's white. I think black will make me suffer for first 5 minutes in the summer entering the car, and it gets dirty and scratchy easily
GhostOfAMachine cool! yeah, haha I got black. It does scratch easy! The seats are black but not leather so it won’t be scorching in the summer. I always get black and then tint it! Kia is good value for sure
I've always wanted this audio feature in a car...
too bad the audio system in this Kia sucks as he revealed. better off with a golf with ambient lighting that has a competent stereo and is the same price, yikes.
I love my 2013 kia soul but it doesn't do well in the snow at all. Even on dry ground I feel like no matter what my tires slip often and turning feels like you're going to flip over.
How about testing a base model LX with 6 speed manual?
That was a fun trip 👍

Great review and agree what you said. The same drivetrain in the Forte GT is way better because it has a multi-link and a sport suspension.
You mentioned that the rear wheel wells are not “carpeted”....kudos...i find the fabric linings are just difficult to keep clean, drip melting snow and rain water on the garage floor for hours....why can manufacturers not sound deaden the wheel wells from the inside of the well?
I guess it’s all subjective. I’m a big fan of the HUD as well as the sound system. I’m with you on the “piano black”
Thanks. Can you please do the KIA Forte GT? I know you have done the non GT model before and would appreciate your opinion on the GT model. If that model is available in the US? I'm in Australia. Love your channel.
Does the elantra gt n line hatch have the same issues in terms of driveability?
