I have a stock oil pump but I I will go bigger when I go fully built! For internals I have kings bearings and ARP head studs. Making 303 at the wheels tuned on 92. Fun but reliable! F what people say about subarus and STIs. Just have to know the platform 😁 @@JonathanLopez-rg8le
@JonathanLopez-rg8le I have just got my wrx back from the tuner, new genuine EJ207 block with ARP headstuds, RCM head gaskets, 11mm oil pump and killer b pick up. Should be fairly reliable running 20PSI on a TD05
I think he means gatekeeping implies withholding pertinent information, so your use was redundant? Personally I get this is a UA-cam comment section and so do normal people. You got the point across lolol

That is not true, this car has it and its fine, and it runs really cool until it gets over 100 degrees at high boost at the track. That's why we have 3 different maps
The amount of invaluable information this man packs into every video he makes is absolutely incredible. There are only a handful of guys that are this knowledgeable. Literally a gift to our community.

I have a 2006 subaru sti that's running 400hp at the wheels on a mustang dyno. I love this car and the build process I went through to get here. I know I could have gone for more power but like you said more power more money. The worst part is money spent to power gained goes way down when you go above 500hp. I did my build for 500hp and had the tunner cap my car at 400. I don't want to live on the edge.

Man, this has gotta be the perfect high hp street and track STi build. No stone left unturned, everything done to the highest level. I would only argue with the EL headers vs UEL but even that only on the basis of that iconic rumble. Hard to argue with efficiency though. Beautiful
I had a 04 GDB STi with the EJ207 ran it with a PE1820 turbo at 1.4bar drove it hard and tracked it regularly, had it for 8 years without having to rebuild it at all..
So what I took away from this is looking cool is more important than sounding cool. We will give up efficiency in suspension but not in exhaust. Epic video. Your video with rotary Rob sent me down this new rabbit hole.
Thanks for sharing, I think this is the information that needs to be shared. Going 10milion Hp, is not really the answer. Having a realistic goal and understanding limitation will help accomplish a great, reliable build. I have been following you since I was young, now I'm a dad and I pass your knowledge onto my kids...and they are also part of the subie nation
500s is perfect especially on a built motor.. it will make the car extremely reliable. No need for more on a road course especially!! 500 would feel perfect with that platform. I have a VB that makes only 350whp and 352wtq. Good for a street car I run a 255 square. I do need a oil separator. Great video lo e the car

Love this STI one of my favorite street/race one! You guys should let some of the other youtubers drive it in the canyons or something to get more views heading your way
My IAG block was shipped with machining chips left in the engine, which I found 18 months later in the #1 and #2 main bearing oiling holes during a teardown. Also, the cylinders unacceptably tapered.
Did your previous engine blow up? The chips could be from your old engine, lurking in cooler lines, the cooler, valve covers, pan, etc. IAG ultrasonically cleans all parts after machining operations so the likelihood of chips remaining is pretty low. If you machine in a proper fixture, the bores will not be round when measuring them just sitting there. Taper and out of round can be more than 1.5 thou on a Subaru, especially a studded engine.
@@motoiq Nope, it wasn’t. The machining chips were pretty clearly from the close decking process given the type of cutter they used. I sent photos to them and did admit that it was likely that’s what it was. The taper was at the bottom of the cylinders, it measured out to be a 3tho difference between the top, there was also scuffing on the bottom 2 inches of bore without only minor scuffing up top, the bottom of the skirts were destroyed. It was explained to me that there were potentially quality control issues back then (2018). After loosely taking some responsibility for the issues, I was offered 20% off a new engine however I just didn’t care to spend any more money with them. All that being said, I think I maybe just bought at a poor time, they seemed to be pretty behind and potentially rushed out some blocks. I found a few people that had some strange issues from around the same time. I think they make some good products and appreciate that selling off the shelf built engines can be a tricky business given all the factors that are in play when determining a successful outcome. I’ve moved on to the MQB VAG platform, I spent 6 grand on my S3 and ran a 10.8 and I can do it with a coffee in my hand. lol I would like to maybe build my GR for some ice racing or something like that when I have the time. I think that’s truly where Subaru’s are happy.
Ok this was way before all of their newer processes and procedures. There current engine production facility is state of the art. What year S3 do you have?
Lol I'm on my 12th subaru. Mostly had outbacks. But now ripping a 2015 wrx. All my cars touched 250,000miles plus. And only two of em blew up or out headgaskets. And I was abusing em. And they were like Legos to repair. I'll get a 13th.
Hey I have a Forester legacy wagon. A 99 that has been sitting this brutal winter with no start for two months and she has 228500 miles in her and she started right up today
I'm new to the Subaru community! All I can say is I'm glad I found this channel! I'm in a dilemma and I hope you get some guidance advice? My first subie was a 01 forester and I just picked up an 08 sport Forester. I fell in love with off road and still love street. Which car should I off road vs street ? Can you do an equivalent build but for off-road? 👀
55:55 Unless you have already passed that point of traction loss and are riding it. Colin Mcrae style... Then It is actually incredibly beneficial. The problem is the number of people who can actually achieve this, and not wreck, or can actually enjoy this, are very few. This is what makes this car and/or platform such a Great rally car chassis. why you can just take a factory Subaru, Turbo or No, and compete in some oem spec level rally cross and such at the top level... if you have the skills.
1:00:08 !!! This is something I've never heard anyone express, but that I've thought of myself. So I had an Outback XT with the 5 speed and a cobb short throw. It shifted terribly and would even grind at times. Now that trans is in a different car with a longer shifter and it shifts just fine. It seems to me that the reduced leverage of a STS causes the syncros in a 5 speed to not work as well, which leads the drive to just drag against them like slipping a clutch. IMO for 5 speeds, keep that shifter stock, just stiffen the bushings for better feel.
@@motoiq I appreciate the validation! I built my own tall sorta normal-throw shifter with solid aluminum bushings for the old GL that this transmission ended up in. Shifts good and falls right to hand for a nice race car feel.
That’s so awesome, but you can also prevent a Subaru from blowing up by simply driving it how it was meant to be driven. They aren’t built for much more hp then they come with stock. I’d stay within 100hp stock and it won’t blow up for WELL past 100k
Need help to build a 06 WRX Wagon GGA with EJ255, stay in the Bay Area . Where are you located? Got an average budget and just looking for 300-350hp to the wheels ? Also need to replace most or all of my suspension? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Please and Thank You 🙏

very cool, very informative. I like this guy.
I feel like Mike is giving me all the hot gossip. I could listen to this guy all day long.
Loved this video, thank you for making so much great content, especially Subaru related stuff. 👍😊
You talk about the issues of a flat engine. I am curious what Porsche does to fix, or work around these issues? Love your work!
The Porsche engine is built a lot stronger.
I recently acquired a very nice stock 2004 sample. There are some great information here! Such great advice, especially under the car.
@@motoiq It’s a 2018 7 Speed. GT2263, with MPI running a nice E40 blend. Peak torque at 2900, super fun daily.
Then Non nightmare to work on Audi! That is the same turbo we have on the Daughters S13. Good turbo!
"Everything packages nicely as it is." 24:05
That should be a tuners standard. Package things to meet the end users needs.
Listening to this sooths me. Its a go to channel for a bedtime story. Keep up the great work
Lol I'm on my 12th subaru. Mostly had outbacks. But now ripping a 2015 wrx. All my cars touched 250,000miles plus. And only two of em blew up or out headgaskets. And I was abusing em. And they were like Legos to repair. I'll get a 13th.
Best real talk about EJ tuning 🔰💯
Hey I have a Forester legacy wagon. A 99 that has been sitting this brutal winter with no start for two months and she has 228500 miles in her and she started right up today
I'm new to the Subaru community! All I can say is I'm glad I found this channel! I'm in a dilemma and I hope you get some guidance advice? My first subie was a 01 forester and I just picked up an 08 sport Forester. I fell in love with off road and still love street. Which car should I off road vs street ? Can you do an equivalent build but for off-road? 👀
Love watching your guys video's. I always come away with something to think about and learn.
Love seeing Mike drive the cars at the end of the day. Cool seeing him enjoy and rip on them.
Not the crossover I would have expected, but I’m sure happy it happened.
Thanks so much, this is really good content 👌👍
Mikes knowledge base 👌👌👌
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Awesome video!
Merch ordered, not much but hope it helps!!!!
Great video and knowledge! You're an icon in the community. Thank you for your contributions
Same for
Me when I get home I’m gonna write stuff down and make a plan
Xclutch sprung twin organic clutch and flywheel is amazing best one hands down!
Legend has it that Mike K turns into a savage when partaking in fancy cocktails of the blue colored variety.
I am savage normally.
@@motoiq this is true.
Very good informative video, thanks for sharing!
Beautiful car and a great channel full of knowledge every time.Thank you guys
We adjusted it so the motion ratio was almost the same as stock for that reason but we benefit from the better bushings on the Cobb.
@@motoiq I appreciate the validation! I built my own tall sorta normal-throw shifter with solid aluminum bushings for the old GL that this transmission ended up in. Shifts good and falls right to hand for a nice race car feel.
I watch this at least once a week to have mike’s knowledge etched into my mind. ahaha Have to bring my car to him once my powertrain warranty is up!
Please and Thank You 🙏
Dang this a movie!! Love the content! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What a humble sounding subaru. Use to Subarus with 300 wheel sounding so violent
This guy is awesome, much better than the bs guys
I love it. Great comprehensive job👍
Thank you for this wonderful information 😊
The best video/tutorial on a EJ. Does this vehicle pass CA Smog?
Richard Hammond would have a blast with this build
Wow. That much response with that much power…. Don’t change a thing!
