- One of my favorite movies of all time! We R-U-N-N-O-F-T'd down to Mississippi to visit many of the locations from O Brother! Where Art Thou! The Coen Brothers, Roger Deakins, George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, John Goodman, and the rest of the cast and crew spent a hot summer in the deep south filming the movie. 21 years later, Virginia and I visited the spots!

"Well, ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!"
One of my favorite lines 😂
Forget it!
*throws down money*
A, dozen hair nets.
" You men from the bank?." I still say so many lines from this movie..what a classic
I love when he says, “I knicked the census man.” And, Delmar says, “now that’s a good boy. Is your daddy about?” 😂
"You servin' papers?" 🤣
This is one of my all time favorite movies. Being born in Alabama and living here all my life, having family in Mississippi, it really brings it all to life for me. I think I know most of the dialogue by now, as many times as we've watched it.
It is SO good and endlessly quotable, Carole!
Great job matching scenes to the movie! Thank you!
Thanks, Robert!
"Who elected you leader of this outfit?." "Im a Dapper Dan man!"
😂😂😂
This was wonderful! I love how you both masterfully edited back in the shots from the movie!
I am a professional musician who happens to live in Yazoo City. I have played in the auditorium in Vicksburg many times as the upright bassist in a jazz trio, and in the Canton Square courthouse yard as the tuba player of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra many times. I tool down Long Lake Road in my Jeep looking for mud to drive around in. In fact, I have been to at least 75% of these sites since I moved here in 1993. This is an excellent video. Thanks for taking such care to produce it; the result was well worth your effort. And yes, this is one of my favorite films, too. It is the best modernization of Homer's "The Odyssey" that I have ever come across. I love John Goodman as Polyphemus the cyclops. And the sirens were great, too. Fantastic stuff, to be sure. I live about five blocks from the several spots in Yazoo City, and my daily walk takes me past one of them every day. How fun to see these places on UA-cam, with film scene overlays, to boot!
Thank you for your kind words, Holton! I’m an upright bass and low brass player myself, though it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to play. I studied music in college and trombone was my primary instrument, but they had me on euphonium most of the time 😂.
It must be cool getting to see those spots every day! Not only one of my favorite movies but one of my favorite location hunts so far!
That movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” is one of my all time favorite movies ever. That was the movie that got me introduced to George Clooney, who since became one of my favorite actors. Those filming locations were incredible, it was like, when walking through different locations where the movie was shot was like being part of the movie too.
Just finding this. Awesome video man. Also, I grew up in Roanoke and went to college at Radford back in the day. Well done. Love, love, love the Cohen Brothers movies!
I saw this film when i had just bought a house. I remember playing soundtrack cd as i was getting house together after many trips to home depot😅. I bought soundtrack day after i saw movie. The music i had never really heard that genre before. I had feeling the music to film was gonna be huge. And it was! One of most memorable soundtracks to a film
Well, ain't this place a geographic oddity! I'm the Mike Calnan you refer to. My wife and I are "affiliated" with Radford and Virginia Tech, where we met many years ago. "Is you or is you ain't my constitency!?" I help at the SCHF with the website and other things.
Your video is beyond awesome, with the attention to detail in comparing the scenes, as well as the love you show the movie. George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson, and Holly Hunter were the nicest people ever, chatting with the extras and generally being very pleasant. John Turturro was "in character" the whole time he was here, so nobody really got to meet him, only his character "Pete," At least he wasn't a toad. The shot from the banquet scene with the woman taking a picture of the people at the table with a "disposable camera" was Holly Hunter. The extras were very honored that she would want to take their pictures. My wife is the person in the blue hat at the head table next to Vernon Waldrop. Holly Hunter was on the other side of Vernon wearing a white hat. I was at "Table 1," the first table to the left looking from the stage.
Mike!!! Thanks for watching the video! I loved looking through your albums over the last couple years while researching the spots. It is one of my favorite movies of all time! I can’t even imagine the experience of getting to watch that many masters at work all at once. The Coens, Roger Deakins, and the group of actors 🤯
What a great movie. Your scene matching is excellent! Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks, Martin!!
Wow you really did a great job with this, thanks. This is also one of my favorites. Special thanks to your wife who is obviously super supportive and helps you do these with the love and care they deserve... she deserves more screen time!
I honestly couldn’t do it without her. She’s the mastermind at matching up the angles. You’ll start to see her more and more as she’s getting more comfortable with the camera!
Agreed, thanks Virginia!
Great work! I'm grinning ear to ear watching this!
Thank you! Glad we can bring a smile to your face 😁
@@GoingtotheMovies The most quotable movie in the world!
Excellent video. The overlays added a much needed touch to a location video. Something most UA-camrs do not do (I follow quite a few). You've got another subscriber!
Thank you, GhostWalker! Glad to have you along for the adventures!
The best O Brother locations video I’ve seen. So detailed!
Thank you!
GREAT video with GREAT commentary! Really loved this as I love the movie itself!
Thank you very much! 🙏
This was great. I was born in Vicksburg, but I grew up in Northern California. I visited there a few years back, but did not really have a chance to see the town properly. Having said that, I always feel a resonance or deep connection whenever I travel to the south. This was an extremely well done video. I’m so glad that I discovered your channel. Truly excellent work you guys.
I stumbled upon your video (I don’t know how) but I love this movie. Like you, I may know the dialogue by heart. You did an amazing job on this video, production quality, sound, pacing, everything. Thanks for your hard work on this project.
Thank you for the kind words, Dr GH! It was a labor of love for a great movie
My sister and my brother in law were extras in the baptism, the auditorium and the part where the parishioners are walking to the lake. My sister was also Holly Hunter's stand-in. They got paid about six hundred dollars. I think it's cool what you are doing keep up the good work 😊 D'lo water park is where we have had family reunions in the past.
Thank you so much, Katrina! I wish there were more Mississippi movies cause we love visiting there!
What a fantastic love letter to one of my favorite films!! Incredible! Like you, this movie is very important to me. I was always the film lover in my family. Growing up in the south (Kentucky), I was able to watch O’ Brother with my parents, grandparents, etc. and after years of quoting, laughing, etc. I really do hold this film near and dear. Great, great job.
Thank you, Preston! There is just something about this movie that isn’t like anything else.
Probably my #1 favorite movie of all time. It's just absolute perfection from beginning to end. Also one of only two movies I've ever seen multiple times while it was still in the theater. Honestly can't even count how many times I've watched it in total. All these years later and I still quote it all the time lol.
I'd really love to go back and visit Mississippi, I spent some time there in Meridian for my 'A school' after boot camp in the navy but the only off-base time we had was to go into town and back.
LOL, You mentioned Kazaa!! I used to use that all the time back in the day!! I had totally forgotten all about that!!
A terrible way to watch a movie 😂
@@GoingtotheMovies LOL yes it was!!!
so many pretty places! good job on getting to all of them for the video guys.
Thank you! Mississippi is a beautiful state!
Great job! I lived in Valley Park when this was filmed and met all the cast and even the Coen brothers! Super nice! I believe the scene under the Oak with the Cyclops was on the diversion canal levee off to the east of Hwy 61 just north of Redwood. It was also where the cow scene was filmed They had it blocked off with lots of equipment one of the days of filming that I remember.
That’s awesome! Thank you for the info! The street view is difficult to see, so I might just have to drive down there and wander until I find it
Very well done!! Excellent! "I was feelin a might peckish" until i watched your video.
Haha! Glad you liked it!
So cool. We're in Vicksburg right now. Going to visit some of these places tomorrow.
Very interesting. I was very impressed with the rock formations in the river. There are holes in the rocks.
Great video. I plan to do this soon and I’m definitely using this as a guide. Thanks!
Awesome, JC! Enjoy the spots!
Wow what a awesome job on this video, my Wife and I just saw the movie last week, yeah I know way behind on this. We're in north MS. and I can't believe I hadn't watched this movie sooner. Again great job !!
I'm as fascinated by all the UA-cam videos about this movie - almost as much as the movie itself. I think it should have won a few Oscars. Love the scene matching.
Thanks, James! And, I agree, definitely should’ve won multiple awards. (Only two nominations! 🤦♂️)
Great location video. Thanks. I enjoyed it. And, of course, I love the film. Looking up the music for the film brought me to your site,
That’s awesome, Evalyn! One of the best soundtracks of all time. Thank you for watching!
Excellent work, Kind Sir!!🤘 I worked with Clooney on Leatherheads and he was a class act. Super nice, women and children first at lunch and even when everyone kept singing "Man of Constant Sorrow" lol. I still remember him with his head bobble saying "Act!". Ofcourse I was nist excited to work with him and Jim from the office lol! :D
Thanks, Crush! He really seems like one of the nicer guys in Hollywood. I would give anything to hang out with him and John Krasinski!
@@GoingtotheMovies They were both really great! John helped us move things to set and laughed after I told him why I was staring at him.. I was more excited to see him than Clooney. Big office fan. He filmed that during the week, us werkends until April, then full time here. Every time I see the season he filmed wearing a wig until the "Big Haircut" reveal and finally asked Pam out.. that's us!🤘
Fantastic! I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos. Thank you for all the hard work!!
What incredible video you have created from this movie and the towns it was filmed in. Also so glad to hear that you’re from my home state of Virginia! Keep up the great work!
Thank you, 7th Tradition! VA is the best!
Awesome ! one of my favorites great job ! ⚡️🤙🏼👏🏼
Thank you, JayNalu! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is Bonafide!! Killer work. Great rundown. Loved the matchup of shots.
Thanks, thesunman!
You guys did yourself proud. Good to know that y'all from VA.. I am too. Just north of Culpeper. This is one of my favorite movies by the Cohen Brothers. If I may, try locations for Raising Arizona and True Grit. That'd be great.
Thanks, John Jay! VA is the best (I’m originally from Martinsville and she’s from Norfolk) And definitely gonna do those suggestions, we hope to do all of their movies at some point!
Enjoyed it. Thanks
I love movie location videos and yours is the best yet
Thank you!! 🙏
Excellent job again. You're really good at this stuff!
Pleasantly not annoying, like so many others on UA-cam are.
Thanks, COZ!
Gracias por compartir este vídeo. Hiciste un trabajo estupendo.
Thank you for sharing this video. You did a great job. 👍
Great job! Thanks to both of you.
Thanks for watching, Steve!
Great film and another great job with the locations. Love the way you edit with the overlays.
Thank you, sir!
Just found this page, I’m hooked

Hello Werni, thank you for watching! Hoping to do Sound of Music in Austria one day!
Excellent production value! Please keep doing these interesting movies.
Will do, Randy. Thank you!
First time viewer here, you make one hell of a video.. why does this only have like 1k views
Thanks! We’re still a pretty new channel so we are working at it!
Nice work and video. I love the drone shots.
Thanks, Keith! Glad you liked it!

Thanks, man! It is truly one of the best. Glad to have you along for the ride!
Very nicely done!
Thank you, Anthony!
Love the VT Hokies shirts!!
Last night was a pain, but have to rep the Hokies no matter what!
Great video!
Thank you so much!
This was great, this type of video is highly underrated content, only Rocky and a few other seems to get the traction. That must mean Oh brother where art thou is still a highly underrated movie.
Great video.
Thanks, PbHart!
I loved that move...
Good job
Thanks, Andrew!
Awsome!
Thanks, Trent!
What a Great Job you have done!
Wow
at 8:40, they were not spooked, but wanted to steal the car and made haste in doing so.
Nice ...
5:13 The crossroads where they pick up Tommy is at the crossroads of Kelso and Summerall Road, about 2 miles East of the WEZY station
Awesome find! Let me know if you find any others. I've always wondered where the Cows and the John Goodman beating the guys up scenes were filmed
@@GoingtotheMoviesread online the chain gang escape and train jumping scene was filmed in Leland, MS. I believe it was west of the town along the tracks
I’ve wondered that too ever since you mentioned it, I would guess it’s around canton somewhere and the cow scene is maybe on the way to Yazoo City
Great video I'm from Yazoo City remember this well as well as My dog skip and A time to Kill for which Super Valu at the time has Sam Jackson doing autographs. .
Sweet
a favorite meeting
Hi guys , I noticed by looking at your shirts, you guys are from SW Virginia. What a small world, I’m from that area
Awesome! I grew up in Martinsville and Virginia grew up in Norfolk. We both went to Radford which is where we met.
@@GoingtotheMovies Roanoke, the star city, here
IN CONSTANT SORROOOOOOOOOOW
How do movie producers find this places?
Great work btw
Local location scouts and databases from what I know!
The big tree they sat under with John Goodman is somewhere near greenwood, ms. I can probably get you an exact location, but a customer of mine was talking about that exact spot the other day, said they call it “the movie field” and that beautiful tree is still there
😮 If you can get me that location it would be greatly appreciated!!
@@GoingtotheMovies I have made the inquiry but he’s on vacation will let you know. Enjoyed the video, the WEZY radio tower is about 15 miles from where I live as the crow flies only that big river is in the way
Hey Robby, did you ever get an answer on that spot? Would love to know if it still exists!
Where was the “Cross Road” shot picking up Johnson
Not sure. I may have figured it out after posting the video, but I can't recall now. I would guess near the radio tower somewhere.
where is the scene where they picked up tommy at?
"Never trust a Hogwallup!" Pete Hogwallup
Her name's Virginia and you're from Virginia? 😄
Haha, yep!
Good video, way to many commercials!!!
Thanks, Jimmy! I’ll take a look at it. I usually let the commercials auto-populate but I can go in and remove some
You missed a few locations
When I go back I’ll just recreate the whole movie shot for shot
Parker, you are so ungrateful. You missed a lot of politeness.
*And stay out of the Woolsworth!*
😂 thats how i saw superbad for the first time....
You are "bonafide"
They weren't spooked coming out.of tempeltons.they wanted to hurry up and steal that man's car when he went In the store
they werent spooked coming out of the gas station, they stole the mans car after he walked inside.
Yeah, I noticed that while editing and noted it with text on the clip
When they are leaving the gas station they are sneaking because they are stealing the car.
Yeah, I’d forgotten that, so I had to write it in at the top.
