This man has proved himself time and time again, but I'm glad that he's got the Batman platform now to showcase his range. He's been underrated for too long. He killed it as Falcone!
He's not underrated at all, he's been a Hollywood A-Lister for like 30 years. The big lebowski is one of the most famous cult movies ever made and he's a huge feature. And transformers are actually one of the biggest franchises ever.. So he's actually the opposite of underrated. ...
@@zyourzgrandzmaz I'm not saying he hasn't had an A-List career, I'm saying he deserves even more. Bigger roles, more awards, more notoriety, maybe a star on Hollywood Ave, etc. He's THAT good
I get what you're saying. I absolutely loved the whole casting of The Batman because there were no faces I was tired of seeing. A lot of great actors who haven't got the recognition they deserve. Farrell, Pattinson and Dano are phenomenal actors and I loved to see them get into a huge franchise like this and really be the main stars. Nolan had actors like Oldman, Neeson, Freeman and Caine who are obviously incredible but they were already huge names at the time of The Dark Knight.
More like he got killed!
I get what you are saying. I realise he's a great actor but I didn't know he was that good because the first time I ever saw him was in an Adam Sandler film. I'm glad he got the Falcone role because he nailed it.
His Big Lebowski performance is one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever made.
@@ccriztoff thanks, I've not seen it and I didn't know about it.
You said it man.
Secret window
The Big Lebowski is a masterpiece anyway. But yes, his performance is so perfect.
Indeed he was marvelous. Was Jesus a pedophile or not? In adoration of the character have folks forgotten that fact somehow???
I know it's not exactly a nuanced film but the man had me dying as the Butler in Mr.deeds, anything I've ever seen him in, he is phenomenal!
Let me touch your feet.
Yeah. Always thought he was hilarious in that.
Sneaky sneaky sir....
Very very Sneaky
I think you are underestimating his sneakiness
He played Ambrose Monk, Detective Adrián Monk's older brother. I thought his portrayal was incredibly sensitive and profound. If you weren't a Monk fan you may have missed it, but it's a real testament to the caliber of this actor.
I know every time I think of Sardonic vs Sarcastic, I remember that episode
Same
Yes, Ambrose Monk was my favorite JT role, but there are some movies of his I haven't seen, so I look forward to seeing him in those parts, too.
100% agree he was absolutely fantastic in this.
@@a.m.3719 Sarcasm is a contemptuous ironic statement. You were being mockingly derisive, that’s sardonic
Turturro and Walken are the two actors that I’ve always believed instantly make any movie better when they’re a part of it. Having them together in Severance is a dream come true for me.
I highly approve this comment 👍
I think we can put Steve Buscemi here too
@@Dimitar94 man i was about to say it
My working theory is it's eels.
Alan Rickman and Willem Dafoe are two others. No movie was ever made worse by their presence.
He’s a staple in American movies. I’ll always love Transformers and Mr. Deeds because of him 👏🏽
💯💯👍
I gotta rewatch and collect most of these.
Have you seen Barton fink?
Those are among his absolute worst movies. Have you heard of The Coen Bros.?
And 200 "Likes" on this comment? Ay yi yi...
have you heard of the phantom?
Rounders was a great movie with very memorable performances. Turturro had a small role, but as usual, he absolutely nailed his role as a seasoned Poker Grinder.
agreed! rounders + gods pocket are masterpieces because of him!
Was wondering why this wasn’t covered
I guess that I understand. It's a small role with limited emotional range. But, I could make a strong argument that Knish is the second most important character in the movie.
John Turturro’s portrayal of Herbert Stempel in “Quiz Show” is one of the best performances ever put on film. He was as equally brilliant as the attorney Jack Stone in the HBO series “The Night Of.” He always give you everything he’s got in every role.
He was one of the best parts of The Batman, which was surprising to me because the trailers barely featured him.
wasn't sure how well he could play a mob boss, but he really killed it.
A mob boss character in a superhero -movie could've been over the top, but he played it like he was doing a Godfather movie. The actors, director and screenwriters did a great job with this film.
the ONLY good part
@@saraparker184 major cap alert
agreed
I can't believe he's 65. He looks great and energetic. Hope we can have more years of him, great actor!
Right?? He looks like he could be 50.
what!? theres no way he is 65! really? wow, i never would of guessed it. he looks great!
He was great in Mr. Deeds as the Butler and also in You Don't Mess with The Zohan as The Phantom. I know John is know more for his serious roles but I will always remember him in these two movies.
He's honestly my favorite actor ever. I used to live in his neighborhood. I saw him every day. His kids were so well behaved and polite.
He’s pretty nice with it
His little mixed race children are gems
He’s such a fantastic actor. He was amazing in the Transformers, especially 2

the messed up part is that you realize that none of the vehicles that made up Devastator had wrecking balls.🤣🤣
They forgot to include his role as The Phantom in You Don’t Mess With The Zohan! As a comedy role, he absolutely killed it. The Phantom definitely should have been included in this video
Aint nobody seen that pileashit
They didn't do Mr. Deeds as well
I absolutely agree !
Those were the only reasons I’m watching this right now 😩
Billy Zane. He's a cool guy. Said HANZEL.
His part in secret window was amazing.
One of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. This man embodies every character he plays. Thank you for all of the great characters, John.
Turturro is one of those rare actors who can play any role flawlessly. I can’t think of a single movie he’s in that I did not like. I pray that he continues to share his amazing talent with the rest of us.
Agreed. Even very famous actors can play a character and just total miss the mark. Not Turturro. He owns every single character. I love it.
I was expecting Mr.deeds to be in one of the movies he listed. But didn't see it :( . That was the movie that I first ever seen him in and I loved that character. "Sneaky sneaky "
I even loved him in Transformers 😂
John is more than just an actor. He's an intellectual who knows how to read people and applies what he sees in that person in a character he creates that is believable. One of the finest artists ever in motion pictures.
Yes.
John Turturro is an amazing actor. So it's quite disappointing when he repeatedly stars in Adam Sandler movies. So either his career is in the toilet or he's gotten lazy.
@@leoperidot482 they’re good friends… I’m sure it’s a homie thing
@@vogelvogeltje It does explain why a lot of native New Yorkers are in Sandler movies; Avari. Buscemi. James. Keitel. Turturro.
John Wayne was the same with putting his same friends in most of his movies; Bruce Cabot. Jim Davis. Robert Donner. Ed Faulkner. Mike Henry. Chuck Roberson. Patrick Wayne.
Do you know him? That's quite the compliment. Wow. 👍
My father showed me all on John's films growing up and would always point out the subtleties of his performances and the masterful way he used his body and face to act alongside his voice
No Anger Management, No The Secret Window, no Mr.Deeds. Those are my 3 memorable movies of him
You sound jealous
I loved this man as Simons in the transformers series.
"Tell Megatron: Let's Tango."
I was so shocked and overjoyed when I saw him in the Batman as Carmine Falcone.
Same, such a pleasant surprise
"What you are about to see is top secret. Whatever you do... Do NOT tell my Mother." 😂
That line was so awesome! 😂
@@anneahlert2997 God, he was my favorite part of that movie, besides seeing an SR-71 Blackbird on the big screen again.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? is one of the most enjoyable and re-watchable movies ever.
So true. One of my all time favorites. The writing and the performances are excellent, not to mention the soundtrack. A Man of Constant Sorrow is easily one of the best bluegrass songs in cinema history.
Yeah, simply very well made amalgamation or a bit simplified revisioning of the Odyssey...
@@VNExperience me too!
I'm a Dapper Dan man myself.
That don't make no sense!
Now that I’ve recently watched the godfather trilogy, he was lowkey giving Don Corleone vibes in The Batman.. I really like John Turturro man. To be honest, I hadn’t seen him in a movie since transformers back in ‘07, so I got a lot of nostalgia seeing him star alongside Pattinson, kravitz, etc.
I have always had Mr Turturro at the top of my favorite actor list. I am a fairly old man but I am grateful that UA-cam has opened these possibilities; watching actors explain their thoughts. I am grateful to my grandsons for opening my eyes to this type of experience.
I wish you all good health, happiness and all the very best to you and your families!
He was good in The Batman, but he is incredible in Severance.
Quickly becoming my favourite TV show ever that is.
oh yes its my second 10/10 show in life next to breaking bad
@@panczek18900 You should try The Leftovers. Very good as well.
@@caleorama Loved that show, but it kinda got lost a bit somewhere between seasons 2 and 3 - Still a great watch, IMO.
his childlike innocence in Severance really pulls at the theme of the show, how horrific it all is.
Season 2 is gonna really take things up a notch
In my humble opinion John Turturro can do no wrong when it comes to acting. This guy can sculpt and mold a character into something you will enjoy watching. I love his acting and respect his acting.
I feel the same way about Harry Dean Stanton
There’s one movie, one scene I cannot watch. It comes back in my memory. Haunts me. Him being taken out to the woods. To be killed. God what a performance. Millers crossing.
@@rbu2136 "you can't shoot me out in the woods like some animal please I'm praying to you"
Uggghg. That scene. It was horrible it was so realistic.
Anything Turturro is in, I watch! Multi-talented actor❣
Him and the Coen brothers is the best actor/director(s) combo in modern day cinema. Great movies, great chemistry
'The Night Of' was truly fascinating. The way he portrayed the lawyer with all of his idiosyncrasies is absolutely amazing, I should go back and watch it again just for him.
I came here to say this. He was great in it
I just rewatched this a couple weeks ago. Show really was brilliant.
Not seen it and watching this has set my mind to take a long look at his roles, many I have seen and always enjoyed.
the chopstick and his dead skin cells... shudder
@@Hairyskinback I highly recommend! Let me know what you think...
I like his role as Adrian Monk's brother in "Monk".
Same!!
Same, I first knew him as Ambrose Monk
Sameee!!!
Looking for this comment, same.
Me too. They really could be related
First time I saw Turturro was in To Live and Die in L.A. His part was a lower level criminal, but his presence and uniqueness were very powerful. I knew right then that he was a Great actor. Has a lot of real range. Incredible actor. Very confident.
Great movie. Hard to find. I recently bought it on ebay. I'll never get tired of watching it
Really kinda surprised Anger Management isn't on this list amazing movie
Chuck 😂 😂
This dude is one of the most un-recognized actors. He’s in so many awesome movies. I love it when he’s in a film.
"Unrecognized," wha? By whom??
@@Vic-Vega Unrecognized as in not appreciated as much as he should be. Underrated. The opposite of overrated. He is recognizable, yes, by face, (and that amazing hair!) you can pick him out in a crowd, but that is not what the poster meant, imo. I'm guessing Turturro likes it that way, he leads a quiet life in Brooklyn, with his social worker wife--not looking for the glitz and glamour. I respect him for that.
The Jesus would agree
Agree. I ran into him in L.A. five years ago, I recognized him instantly becuase I like movies, but I think nobody else did so I asked for a picture and he said yes! And when I told my family and friends I ran into John Turturro they said, who? It was until I showed them the picture, that they recognized him. However, they couldn't remember in what movie they'd seen him! They only knew who he was but couldn't name a movie!
Its not that he is unreconized. Its because he said no to big blockbuster. He wanted his career this way. This guy is a master of his craft.
Wow, you never realize just how talented he is or how his part carried a lot of weight in the many legendary films he was in until it's all brought together and highlighted. His range is just so vast.
Great point. I was thinking the exact same thing. You must be a genius! Lol
His role as Ambrose Monk in the TV show Monk (which is arguably the greatest show of all time mind you) was legendary. Fantastic actor.
Trooooolllllllll!!!! Trooollllll in the comments!
I absolutely love him in Transformormers, unbelievable role tbh
Yeah he was amazing
I believe he's a very underrated actor with a large scale in talent, this is a man who can play any role an create the most believable levels of emotions 👏 I think he deserves more credit I would've love to see rounders on here.
lol, everyone thinks they are the only ones or one of a few that 'appreciate' the artist. Dude, he's not underrated at all, everyone and anyone with a f'ing brain knows he's AAA
@@loupasternak yeah ive noticed on pretty much any of these videos save for Matt Damon or George Clooney there's someone who has to say uNdErRateD aCtOr even though he's won an Emmy and been nominated for golden globes and screen actor awards and had a long and enduring career - literally the definition of being highly rated
@@TJfromEarth lol, people are dumb
Saw him twice in NY; once on the subway ("Loved you in Barton Fink!" Just before I got off, leaving him to say a baffled "Thanks." ). And once in Little Italy with my dad. Dad give him an Alaska hat with a moose on it. He enjoyed that.
Julian in The Color of Money is another great character of Turturro's. He seems to have a way of makin' a common type persona very animated and interesting. When he shifts his eyes with mouth slightly open as a response to the zeal of an individual, classic! Turturro can simply gesture and relay over the emotion. Dude is awesome
He's unrecogniseable in O Brother Where Art Thou.. Amazing acting.
Not enough people watched The Night Of, unfortunately. He's great in it, first time I saw Riz and he's also great in it and Michael K Williams is great in everything he's done so...awesome under appreciated series.
@nonebeach nightcrawler for me too. Love that film!!
The Night Of, was badass and considering everyone's love for crime thrillers like true detective it is def worth the watch.
Great show, realy showed the spectre of the human mind when put through different situations
Even though I thought it was brilliant, it's hard to recommend to people because it's so dark and emotionally disturbing. "Hey, wanna feel completely devestated? Watch The Night Of!"
The most underrated actor in underrated actor history! Loved him in Johnny Depp's Secret Window despite the lack of critical acclaim...
You stole my story
He was perfect in the Secret Window role
Was that based on the Stephen King novella?
@@mindriot91_96 Yes!
This was such a terrific and thoughtful look back by Turturro, who I think is still so often underrated. He's given so many incredible performances, but his subtle, wistful performance and character in THE NIGHT OF has stayed with me forever, and that final moments of that movie still make me tear up just thinking about them. Brilliant actor.
I don't know if you were aware but the role that Turturo played was originally developed for James Gandolfini. Sadly he died before they started filming.
Brillant show
I always wish these were longer. He's got about 20 more that I'd love to hear him talk about. Even obscure ones like "Brain Donors", I'd be thrilled to hear the story of. You should at least double the length of these and do twice as many films.
Its about the effort of the actor... He's quite old now and basically retired. Explaining his whole life for two hours would be exhausting..
I love Brain Donors! It’s one of my favorite movies. I quote it all the time even though no one ever gets the reference. Such an underrated comedy!
Yes! Secret Window
Miller's Crossing is the most underrated movie in the Cohen Brothers filmography. The attention to detail in that film is impressive and Turturro's performance is first rate.
Coen
Either that or Blood Simple. Another amazing noir.
Cormac McCarthy said that's the film that made him agree to let them do No Country for Old Men
Absolutely
No mentions of his Adam Sandler movies, The Secret Window, Monkeybone, that's how much range this dude has.
Rounders and so many others. Well spoken, thoughtful, great actor.
Man he was amazing in Secret Window. Underrated little movie, and he stole the whole show.
I was looking for this comment, underrated film and role. I always quote him saying ‘YOU LIE!!!’
And you stole his storrrrry
I will burn your life... like a high wind in a cane field!
I can assure you. I know you can, I don't want to be assured.
Absolutely !!!!
Don't forget his small, but effective role in "Rounders" as well!
He's such an underrated actor thats crazy
One of my favorite supporting actors. He makes a movie more likeable to watch.
Barton Fink is one of my all-time favourite films. It's so under seen.
Glad to see a few comments mention "Box of Moonlight". It's such a great movie.
I was first introduced to John T in a spoof of Groucho Marx's Night at the Opera ...Brain Donors...absolute slapstick gold!
First saw him in Unstrung Heroes and got hooked ever since. He's one of the very best around. Love him to bits and always enjoy his acting and every movies I've seen him in. I hope he keeps acting. Thanks John!!!!
He is very impressive to me. He sounds like a poet. His father said " don't look in this person's eyes!" He said " There was something dead yet seductive " It's such a apt true description.
He really got to show his range in The Batman! First time I had personally seen him in such an intense role and he was perfect!🙌🏼
John is one of the most underrated and best actors of all time. I'm still waiting for season 2 of The Night Of
Season 2? That was released as an 8 part miniseries. It was never supposed to have more than 1 season. Just a heads up that you can stop waiting 😅😂
One of my favorite actors to see on the screen
When this guy is in a flick, you just know something is gonna happen.👍👍👍
When you turn on a movie, you know you're about to watch a movie 👍👍👍
If you haven't already, see Quiz Show. A classic tragedy, brilliantly written, acted and directed, and it really happened.
Turturro is a gem
I loves this guy!! Its so nice hearing, speak up humble 100%!! Just a wonderful Actor with honest commitment for his job!!
I still remember realizing how exceptionally talented he is when I saw Barton Fink in the cinema when it came out. He just blew me away (and many others, winning best actor at Cannes that year). He's absolutely captivating - magnetic - and just draws you into the character he plays. One of the most underrated actors out there.
His character in Transformer is my favorite. He completes the chemistry between characters in transformer
Loved him in O brother. One of my favorite movies ❤
What an outstanding actor.
The Night Of was amazing. I've watched it multiple times. I wish very much that they would make a second one covering another case.
Always loved Turturro, He's a legend for do the right thing.
No mention of chuck in anger management is not on, absolutely brilliant in that film
"Box of Moonlight" with him and Sam Rockwell was a beautiful movie.
One of my favs, for sure, absolute 🔥
His performance in Quiz Show is remarkable. One of the best actors working.
A real person AND an unpretentious thespian. Dudes aweseome
This guy is a true gem of an actor, to this day Oh Brother is one of my all-time favorite movies! He is fantastic!
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant actor so many iconic movies...!
It's crazy how normal he is in contrast to the roles he plays. That's a good sign of an amazing actor.
Just saw 'The Batman'. Did NOT know you were going to be in it. Was such a great treat; I love when you fly in under the radar like that. Instantly doubles my subjective emotional investment when you do. What can I say? I'm a fan.
I always enjoy his performance in Don’t mess with the Zohan . Him and Adam Sandler play off each other very well Mr.Deeds is another example.
I think you’ve underestimated his sneakiness
I saw him in an episode of Monk. Such a great actor! I think he is ine of the most underappreciated actors in Hollywood.
The control of the instrument displayed at 13:33 is gorgeous in context.
The Night Of is so good, Ahmed and Turturro are phenomenal and the late great Michael K. Williams is amazing in it, what a gem of a mini series!
Turturro is amazing. I loved him as Knish in Rounders and in Fading Gigolo which I first saw only recently. His more nuanced roles like those are the ones I enjoy the most but he's a lot of fun when he cranks it up too. Always a plus to find in a cast.
I just love this guy. He is so real and level headed and very comfortable in his own skin.
i absolutely love him in Severance!!
John is the consummate character actor who inevitably injects his own unique persona into each performance.
He was the only guy I thought was miscast in The Batman before I saw the movie. I am so sorry now. He was one of the best parts of the movie, absolutely killed it.
I agree with him, I hate watching a movie and you can't hear what they are saying so you turn the tv up to 50 and then the next scene the music blows the speakers out.
I love John Torturro. He always has so much energy on screen. 👍🏻
This guy is awesome. His roles in Rounders & Color of Money are amazing. Two of my fav movies of all-time and he is one of the reasons why. 👍🏽👍🏽
Yup was gonna say how great he is in Rounders
Y'all want to talk Rounders? John Malkovich in that movie 👌 one of the best movies ever made
Why are these 2 movies skipped over? Most of the movies listed suck. Knish was perfectly played. Anybody that met this person (character)in real life would know this
He's been one of my favorite actors for a long time. I love his raw italian energy
John Turturro is an amazing actor! I went out of my way to see Miller's Crossing in the theater because I saw a few moments of John as Bernie Bernbaum facing his death in the woods. It was the most powerfully profound portrayal I had seen. It was an amazing performance. He made that film.
They say the Godfather is the best gangster movie ever made. As it may be, I have always said Millers Crossing deserves to be in the discussion.
@@thecocktailian2091 Definitely! Such an amazing bit of moving making. It is a beautifully rendered homage to film noir pushing against the boundaries of the genre without ever crossing over to become campy. Every player performed their parts to perfection. "Always put one in the brain!"
Many consider Godfather 2 to be better than the original. It along with Goodfellas deserve consideration in that company as well.
Dude, he and the Dane had some great scene stealers in that film. Which is a lot considering that there are lots of scene stealers in a Coen film
Among all their great films it is either the best or second - that is such a great scene
Ever since seeing Miller's Crossing it was apparent to me that John Turturro is a giant of an actor. I wouldn't have been able to articulate it back then, but his performance was just brilliant.
