I know a lot of evidence points to May being an astronaut, but I’m personally betting on the idea she’s a descendent of humans who fled underground in bunkers to survive the flu. Being this universes version of the mutants from Beneath Planet of the Apes.

@@LuvShy45 They are not in the same Universe....in the original movies ape evolution was brought about by time traveling Cornelius and Zira going to the past, where a pregnant Zira gave birth to Caesar. Cornelius and Zira were killed but Caesar survived and years later led an uprising of apes who had been enslaved by humanity. The only virus was one that killed domesticated animals, which was the reason humans turned to apes...first as pets then as slave labor. So a completely different genesis that the new movies.

I think a potentially amazing twist would be the discovery of nuclear weapons, by the apes, which they subsequently use in an attempt to destroy the remaining humans on the planet. The ‘68 film was about the deadliest possibilities of human nature; if the Apes launch the nukes, it elevates the topic to a broader discussion of the nature of consciousness and intelligence as such, regardless of species.

What I find interesting is that I read the original novel by a French Author, and his idea was one of matching evolutionary tangents across two different planets. I liked the direction the original movie series took, to be honest.

I love the orig PoTA as much as anyone, but, It has a lot of elements to it that dont work that well if you think about them even a little. But, the real head-scratcher for this nerd is, how is it that neither Taylor or his crew, while they were still around, at any point in time, never saw, or noticed, the moon? I mean, it may be 2000 years in the future, but, its a safe bet the moon hasn't gone anywhere. Unless they landed on the same Earth as Space 1999. Then, maybe.
I still think the ending is definitely one of the most powerful endings in sci-fi film. I watched the movie recently, and still holds up today.

I myself hold the theory that a small community of surviving humans could have survived the outbreak and following pandemic by hiding underground within sealed away sewers and caverns where they remained in isolation until the virus died off before eventually returning to the surface. Since the sequel to the original film revolves around a similar premise (which i won't spoil) it's possible that this sequel might follow a similar storyline.

The best twist would be those missing astronauts in the first 2000's rise of apes film. At the very beginning of that film there a news broadcast about astronauts in space missing, which could have just been an Easter egg for the og movies bit it would be crazy if it all came full circle and we see a space craft land on earth on at the last shot of the movie

The ‘68 original has a special place in my heart. My grandfather was an enormous Sci-Fi and Charlton Heston fan. Planet of the Apes was a special film for us , we would watch the film series together while we sat on our recliners and drank root beer. These constant duplicate remakes/reboots/sequels have no understanding or awareness of the bonding and sharing people will have when your film is original, objective, and earnest.

They can make a earth shattering movie that can probably make more money than any movie in history but it’s going to have to bring back manly male character s named Taylor , dodge and Landon and they must have the same flaws and characteristics , dodge was a scientist, Taylor was looking for a life form better than man , and Landon was seeking fame , these flaws are profound and what made the original a hit , and can save the entire collapse of Hollywood

Given this is a reboot and no association to the original films, but some rooted connections. This could be the case. I do feel that they will be bringing astronauts to the storyline at some point. Let’s also look at three other storylines. There was the Planet of the Apes TV series that was done right after the films. There were astronauts that came to earth. This is a totally different storyline, but with similarities. You can also see that it’s different than the original films because there was a dog in the TV show. Now going to the next storyline. The animated series. There was once again astronauts in this series. It’s different than the original because Ape city has technology in this series and they are driving automobiles (well Military Jeeps). Jump to 1999, Tim Burton’s version included astronauts, but it’s a different storyline. This one was actually a different planet with the apes, but then he returns to Earth that became dominated by apes. This one resembles the original novel more than any other storyline. Now we get to the new reboot series. I know in my mind that someplace, somehow astronauts will appear. As to being in this upcoming film or not is something we will yet to see. If not in this film, I am pretty confident in come future installment of this reboot series we will see astronauts.

a speaking woman we dont know how many years before 1968 astronaut landing of lost astronauts landing 2000 years in the future on the same planet doesnt make sense, it cant be a reboot nor sequel but a stand alone movie aligning with the 2000s movies which are not related to the 1968 film in any way, even with the apes going back in history in 1970 and giving birth to cesear then getting shot in a lets say " chaotic era" of earth, but the time paradoxes are so unstable its hard to put them together

I have seen the original series so many times heck saw most of them in the theatre loved them all. TV series was crappy so was the cartoon. They seem to have condensed the astronaut's return from the original planet of the apes well do we want the mars people floating in space for 2000 years naa we can be nice. The reason for the humans being mute wasn't in the first series if you look at the movie "Battle for the planet of the apes" the apes and humans are at peace at the end of the film they go forward to the year 2670 so the peace has lasted over 600 years. I see where they are trying to tie it in but to me they will come up way short
