Books Mentioned:
Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman
The Bookwoman's Daugher by Kim Michele Richardson
Firstborn by Will Dean
The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larrson
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Black Cake was indeed a good family saga. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has a bit of a slow start but then it gets really intense and yes, some of it is rough reading. But a great thriller! The Road is a modern classic, an apocalyptic must read and the bleakest book I've ever read!
Great insight as always! I'm so excited to dive into these
Love this format!
Thank you!!
I miss thrifting books though it is a hit or miss! But I know what you mean about spending $$$ on books so I've just always waited until it's available in the library
I'm a big library gal as well! But I do love the satisfaction of a good thrift find :)
Usually I know about the books I'm buying beforehand. I read a lot of philosophy, and so I read up on the philosophers and their thought before I buy their work. I don't really have to worry about spoilers, lol. I also read mostly classics, and I can typically trust the quality. A lot of my books I buy off Amazon, because there's not really a bookstore around me, none that have what I'm looking for.
I did go to a used bookstore recently. I bought another copy of Moby Dick, Walden by Thoreau, and some writings from Kierkegaard. Good stuff. Lol.
Hahah no spoilers with philosophy books, huh? Sounds like you are very well-read. Hoping I can read some more classics this year, if you have any that you'd recommend
@@mansparekh Sorry for the late reply. Classics to recommend? From antiquity I'd definitely recommend Homer - The Iliad or the Odyssey; which I'd say go with the Fagle translation for English. For something a bit more modern I'd recommend East of Eden by John Steinbeck. If you want a challenge, I'd go with Paradise Lost by John Milton.
