      I meant to get to that one when it was released in the US and forgot 😅. I think my favorite nonfiction books I’ve read are ones that I felt were essential to me for understanding my morals and history. All the old second wave feminists texts, not because they were all perfect, but understanding the foundation for modern women’s liberation before it could become the long time coming intersectionality and why women wanted a revolution and what feminism is beyond its pop culture depictions has been monumental for me. Bell Hooks though? Picking up un feminist thought and expanding it into a map for freedom for all?! I’d recommend her entire catalog. I like to know why books speak to people. What makes your pick your essential nonfiction from what you’ve read so far(if it’s okay to ask, book nerd in me loves knowing what/why people connect heavily to what they do)?

    • @mansparekh
      @mansparekh Місяць тому

      I think I can be interested in most non-fiction topics. Can be history, psychology, science/health, ethics/philosophy. Learning is learning! But I often look for ones that I’ve heard are quite readable. If it’s too dry, it won’t hold my attention.

    I can listen to you review books all day long 😆 the way you describe how you feel about books is so beautiful and amazing. And you have convinced me to finally read I Who Have Never Known Men. I have had it on my shelves for a while. And OMG, I thought I was the only one who kept falling asleep reading Iron Flame. 😂 Fourth Wing was definitely very entertaining but the 2nd book needed to be edited waaay down. So many filler chapters.

    Absolutely do go back and check if people took your books! I walked by one I dropped off a book in just a few days ago today and seeing that someone took it made me so happy! It wasn’t even a well known one and I was never gonna read it so knowing someone was excited to find it is so cool

      That is SO fun! Thanks for sharing :) I’ve been checking one pretty regularly. Alas, my Colleen Hoover book is still in there. Will have to check the others!

    OMG! You hit on such a good point about memoirs. Yes, to 80% anecdotes and 20% reflection. I so agree with you.

      Thank you! It took me a minute to land on that percentage breakdown. Don’t know if that’s exactly how it shakes out, but my point stands

    I hate when they mention things in books and never bring it up that's a waste of a page

    Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit and make a video of the LFL's where you live. As a person who is a steward and started an LFL 12 years ago, this type of content helps me make our library even better by seeing what type of books different people are looking to read. Thanks again for sweating those bullets😅. Happy reading! 📚

      This is just the best comment- made my day! I love that you’ve maintained your own LFL for 12 years. Incredible. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊 Cheers and happy reading to you as well!

    Fun vlog! It’s always a bummer when an anticipated read isn’t what you are looking for-but I guess you also learn from it what you need in the next one :)
