Just bought it also. Been struggling with a bad monitor for years.

@petersuvara Congrats! The time of bad monitors is now over for you then 😄

Nice review, William! I too have an ASD with nano-texture and I love it to pieces. The only thing I regret is that I didn’t get the height adjustable stand also. Now I must experiment with different stands because I like (just as you as far as I can tell from the video) to use a MBA or iPP with MGK in front of the display. It’s a minor issue though. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the nice comment @zoganje - I appreciate it.
The nano-texture must be nice though I can imagine. I saw videos from others who recommended the height adjustable stand, and I'm happy with it even though the extra cost for it is on the high end. However, I think you will be able to find a good stand.
      Thank you!

@@willprytzI found myself facing a situation where Macbook blocks the bottom part of the ASD (when placed in front of it to be exact) and so tried with a riser but later on realized that ASD already sits relatively high on my desk and additonal height would just make it non-ergonomic (kind of inverted version of looking down at your screen when your working on a laptop). There would be no issues if one could extend the MBA screen a little further away but it cannot be done. In the end I found a rather silly solution but it works for now. I moved a dock to the left side of the screen and resized all of my windows to sit above the part where MBA (M2, 13”) covers the ASD.

I appreciate the review, William! I am on the hunt for a monitor to match my MacBook photography workflow. It was refreshing to watch a review from someone reading the same script as the other.

I had a 2010-11 27 inch imac then I bought a 2017 imac 27" and love my 27" imacs. I've been holding out until Apple came out finally with a new imac. I finally realized they aren't. I opted a few days ago to buy the 24" apple chip imac and decided I couldn't live with. It was a disappointment.
Now I'm going to try the mac mini pro m2 and this 27" Mac studio display. I still use my maxed out Intel i7/32 gig/ 4 core/ 2TB fusion drive. It's still amazing but has slowed down with all the mac os updates. Plan on using my old one side by side to the mini mac/ studio display.
The new mini mac pro m2 I will do all my editing photo and video. 2017 imac 27" internet, email, youtube, billing, pay bills.
I just love apple screens 27" 5k Retina. I refuse to use laptops and ipads. I was hoping Apple was going to make a new 30-32" imac 5k retina motion pro, but realize apple is not the same company as it's prime years.

      Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely agree that it isn't the same company today as before.
Wow, you were being patient. The iMac 27" is for sure iconic and such a beautiful piece of equipment. To be honest I was also curious if Apple would come out but an update. Actually a bit surprised they decided not to. I can see why skipped the 24" iMac. It's hard to go from 27" to 24" I think.
It sounds like you will have a nice set-up though. I hope/think you will be happy with that!
Any particular reason why you refuse laptops?

@willprytz I am older and more particular about screen real-estate is the reason. I need things larger and more room to work. I have been a architectural photographer going on 15 years. All my work is done at home, sitting at my hone studio if not traveling to get my assignments done. My work requires a lot of fine detail work and attention to details. Why the sharp detailed 5k retina screens are so important. As I age, my vision close up is getting slightly burry. Can't wear glasses because the range is so shallow unless reading tiny labels on packages of instruction on a bottle or medicine.
If the 24" iMac screen is way too small and dinky for me then the 11"-13" ipad to 15- 17" Macbook is freakishly small. You said it...once you go big, it's very difficult to downsize. My same choice for phones is bigger is better too. I just bought/upgraded to the Samsung S24 Plus.

@@GettingthruLife Ahhh ok - it makes sense to me. Its too bad that good machines that works get slowed down by the upgrades... I recognize this too.

@@willprytz Yea and with age and all that happens, all computers over time slow down. My 2017 intel mac has no usb c. It's still prety fast with lastest Photoshop/LR 2024 but theres times the progress windows pops up and Im having to wait 15 sec. Also up downloading 15 to 20 gig of RAW photos and then batch process in Lightroom takes some time. I will be eager to see how much of a difference the 2023 Apple Pro M2 chip is verses old i7 intel 4 GHz processor and AMD Radeon R9 M395 2 GB graphics /MacOS Monterey 12.7.5.

      @willprytz  Місяць тому

@@GettingthruLife Yeah, those specs are really good! Top of the line back then. I think there will be a pretty big difference though. Just going from Intel to a M-chip is very noticeable, at least from my experience.

Sorry my bad, *bought it, I meant. And no, when it comes to money I'm not rich. But I saved and prioritized this for my hobby/work as photographer and video maker.
