  • With LG about to become more and more rare, let's take apart a broken LG K51. Kinda weird how they follow almost the same naming scheme as Samsung with the A series, but they're just as easy to fix.

    I am so very impressed with your ability, perfectly made video in every way AND your lack of fear/pure confidence in knowledge and sharing this video!! THANK YOU. I find so many people fear sharing what they know and make it a competition of sorts... My screen broke a while back but just yesterday my phone decided to go black and not turn back on. I had NO idea a broken screen would eventually stop it from powering up!! I am DESPERATE to retrieve the data and learned many lessons by letting this little black box hold so much important or valuable (to me only) information. Mostly my memories with my son that are irreplaceable. I have no plans to open up the phone myself BUT this video helps me understand where everything is located, how it is all connected and mostly what to do if it comes down to little ole me trying my hand at replacing the screen. You are the Man!! Very glad I found your channel!!

      Thanks so much! I think we always assume that the insides of our device are just as fragile as the glass on the outside. Thankfully when it comes to circuitry it can be very repairable as long as the person working on it understands it. It's rare that I'll make a video about the first time I disassemble a device, kind of like getting used to a new car before you drive it comfortably. And mistakes do happen, I've broken plenty of parts. New technicians often think I'm assaulting a phone when I open them but you just kind of get used to how much abuse they can take, or can't take. If data is what you're after, I know a few places. I'd first contact iPad Rehab, best data recovery in the business!

    yeah this is crazy. ive never had to "peel" off the back of my phones either.. 20 screws wtf.. lol. go LG! had to go find my plastic protector inside too, it popped off just like yours. you see how expensive i go on "smart" phones. man i miss my old nokia that i could throw off the third floor porch, go pick up and put the pieces back together and STILL make a phone call haha. daym the good ol rager days

      You obviously haven't opened a cell phone in years. I'm more surprised that a heat gun wasn't needed to get the back off. There's nothing here different than any other modern phone.

    So i bought already framed like you have here. It charges so i did that right but wont turn on? Is there a part i missed or is it maybe an alignment issue?

    • @TapticDigital
      @TapticDigital  2 роки тому +1

      When you say it charges, do you mean it shows on the screen the battery icon? It's possible that your part did not include the power and volume button flex, it's also possible that the display ribbon (the one on the left under the battery) is damaged or defective. If your buttons "click" they are installed properly. If they feel squishy and no clicks, you might be missing the buttons inside!

    @TapticDigital , I have a question. Why does a phone stop powering on when a screen cracks? I assumed when the screen cracks that we just couldn't visually see the data but I have found that my phone will not even power up. Where is the screen condition and the power source connected? I receive a light at the top right when I connect to charge the phone but the phone will not power on to retrieve the data. How does that work? I'm so confused.

    • @TapticDigital
      @TapticDigital  10 місяців тому +1

      Couple different reasons actually! It depends on the model and brand, for example some LG phones had a feature that detected if the digitizer (glass+touch sensor) was broken. If it was, it would disable the touch but still allow the phone to be used with a mouse. This prevented the phone opening and tapping things on its own or accidentally. Though in most cases it indicates more severe damage, either a hard short from the display to the board, or even board-level damage. The fact that it registers a charger however, is a good sign, and bodes well for repairability.

    What did you add to the edges to unstick the battery ?

    • @TapticDigital

      Isopropyl alcohol! Higher percentage is better, I use 99%

  • @romvoid5177

    So I am having to replace my screen as well right now. My funds are limited and regarding the part of removing the battery. Since a heating mat is not within my budget. Would taking a blowdryer carfully to the front (or back if that is better) work to remove the battery?

    • @TapticDigital
      @TapticDigital  Рік тому +2

      Absolutely! That's the best alternative. You'll want to heat the front of the screen (never the battery directly) until it's just about too hot to touch for more than a second, then gently work your way around the battery. You can use something like a business card or playing card to run under the battery and break the adhesive, these are soft enough to not damage the battery wrapping. Additionally if you have some rubbing alcohol, isopropyl, you can pour some into the sides of the battery compartment to weaken the adhesive. The heat will cause the alcohol to evaporate quickly and won't damage anything.

    • @TapticDigital
      @TapticDigital  3 роки тому +4

      It's possible there is a slight tear in the ribbon, definitely check the connector on the board, sometimes those get bent a bit, and make sure it clicks in nicely, it shouldn't move around when poked. If all that fails, I'd say it's a defective part unfortunately, but a lot of vendors have a good return/exchange policy
