The very first rock concert given at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, built for the 1976 games, but unfortunately not finished in time, since there was not yet the retractable roof.
Imagine playing outdoors in -20 Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit), with 18 inches of snow on the ground and all that, in front of empty seats.
Part of an interview with Greg Lake:
LAKE: I remember we were rehearsing in a basement beneath the Olympic stadium. It was the only place large enough to fit the whole orchestra in to rehearse. A phone call came in and I had to go up and take it, and everyone took a coffee break. So during that break I took the elevator up to the ground floor, which actually took me to the Olympic stadium. And I went up to the stadium and I was looking at this absolutely mind-blowing site, covered in virgin snow, with the Olympic rings lit up in neon lights at both ends. It was an eerie sight, begging for something to happen, and I thought, ‘Video.’ We got the crew to move the gear up to the stadium the next day to start recording. Of course, what we didn’t plan was for it to be way below zero. My fingers would literally slip through the strings. So we had to record it in fairly short bursts, but it was a lovely film in the end.

For only 3 guys, then sounded like 10 guys in the band. They were awesome!

The percussion intro and the outro groove are missing from this version; the LP/CD has them. It's still good, though.

Did you guys know that Mr. Palmer is on tour right now back east…. He just had heart surgery in April and he is doing what he loves to do. Good for him @73 he is in my humble opinion in the top 3 drummers of all time….I’m thinking he wants to guy out like his mentor Mr. Buddy Rich Also you guys need to see Tarkus Live from Montreux Jazz Festival 1097🔥🔥🔥🔥✌🏼❤️🇺🇸🇺🇦

When Emerson asked Copeland's record label for permission to publish their version, the record label refused. So Emerson sent a recording to Aaron Copeland, the composer himself. He LOVED it, and overrode the label and gave ELP permission personally. He did note though that he found Emerson's solo in the middle of the piece "strange". lol

When ELP was formed, they did consider a guitarist. Steve Howe! But Emerson eventually decided to go without a guitar.

To be fair I don't recall that Carl left the band to join Asia. I believe the band broke up right after LOVE BEACH, essentially making them all free agents. Keith and Greg tapped Cozy Powell when they decidedbto do another album...but Carl was contracted to/touring with ASIA and as such, unabailable.

This is not the version of ... Fanfare for the Common Man ... that I would pick. This is the one ---> ...Emerson Lake and Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man (Finale Live Royal Albert Hall 1992)... Finale is... Rondo
