- At one quarter the price of a metal flusher these could be great for the DIY or contractor doing their own drywall projects but do they actually work?

I was excited to to see your reaction of being pleasantly surprised on how well these things work, “painters kit” is just so you can run those flushers on your paint pole and don’t have to buy a drywall specific pole
No kickback!? I want you to have a kickback, Ben! Someone get this man a sponsorship!!
Thanks for the great content Ben! Love when you bring these diy-friendly solutions to our attention.
Man I'm redoing a bedroom for the 1st time and I've been hooked on all your videos lol, I've binged watched most of them, thanks!
I always watch your clips at all time. super helpful...
thank you very much.
"And now the painter's a taper." That tone of voice sounds like guitarists talking about the drummer.
funny as drywall finishers were historically in the Painters Union.
Thanks so much for this! Really interested to see more of the cheaper tool reviews. So many of them seem gimmicky preying on homeowner’s fear of drywall work. Would be nice to know which ones work, even if they aren’t super durable.
thanks for showing these tools in action! great job
3:22 Thank you for not killing the spiders. If I wasn't subscribed already I would just for that.
It's bad luck to kill our little eight-legged insect eating friends.
Good video. Those look huge in those tiny hands. Thanks Ben
I have been using the corner roller applicator, corner roller and a flusher. Next upgrade would be mudtube
If you get them, get a throttle box. So nice to do the angles in 1 step and when you get used to running it you put the exact amount of mud needed. Plus you can use it without a pump, just open the back and fill manually
Throttle boxes are great for drywall professionals, but they are not cheap ($275+). It seems this video is for "cheap" tools that would be used by the "occasional drywaller/remodeler".
Really enjoyed this Ben. The angle flusher is too steep for me at $400ish but would love to see you get one
I thumbs up because Vancouver Carpenter saved the spiders as I would. Nice video by the way!
Those look very handy for someone who doesn’t do finishing everyday like me but still does a good job awesome love your UA-cam channel
I wouldn't spend any money on these if you are doing a one-off job or just something for yourself. Just use something like Perfect 90, instead of paper, and a knife. Much better result than any paper taped corner and you don't waste money on mediocre tools you may never use again.
@@curtisbme Great point for small jobs
Been waiting for you to video an angle head! What's next? A flat box maybe:)
I have been doing corners by hand and i wish i knew about that product earlier on
I like that as a bonus it makes bird calls
Works good to just use the flusher if using fiba fuse, fiba fuse max you’d roll tho as well as paper. Only thing it just use the flusher with no corner roller is fiba fuse so it doesn’t cut it.
We picked up the canam nycor Corner flushers and would highly recommend them for anyone (contractors/diy) doing small to medium sized Renos. They're much cleaner and faster than doing it by hand as you saw Ben do it. And the investment is so minimal for what you get out of them. $120(est) for a full kit vs $400 for single flusher? Math checks out!
Metal Flushers aren't $400 Angle heads are $400. Metal flushers are closer to the $100 range.
My goldblatt trowels cost me around 100 with the pan. Those tools wont fail me until i drop or knick them. Which shouldn't happen anytime soon.
Great video thanks!
There was a 3d printable one just like this, but when they started actualy selling the plastic ones the model was removed from the free internet, if anyone loves diy or freeware and owns one of these and a 3d scanner UPLOAD A MODEL
Did you find an stl file for this?
Way to break it down Ben!👍😎
the rollie thing works good for skim coat
Add some internal beads and your looking even better , great video thanks from Nz
when us painters walk into a joint thats supposedly paint ready you'd understand why the painters are now mudders as well.
Try renting a set of tools, they do make the job faster and smoother. I don’t recommend renting long term, they are very expensive in the long run. A weeks rent won’t be too much to get a feel before you buy if you decide.
the mechanical anglehead, left so much on bottom because of gravity, and it's an easier cleanup once you hit it with your knife.
Thx for the video. I think I’ll stick with my bazooka ,roller and 3 inch wing.
just found your channel, good sh*t man
Curious how well they work after using them for a while. Sure they work good when they are brand new but how about after a month or so of use?
They work amazing for the tape coat then go over with a bigger metal finisher I run it over a Delco banjo. Much cheaper than buying 2 metal direct flushers
Do you have a video on how to give an estimate on drywall?
Another great video. It would be great if someone invented a tape with hard self sticking on so you don’t have to put any of mud under the tape.
Why not? Every time I tape I think of that. I like the fiber tape, in the mean time.
How much is the gun that you use for applying the mud. I have done a couple drywall jobs in my house and the worst part is applying the mud on corners with the knife. And I also bought a corner knife witch sucks because it sometimes cuts the tape in the corner. With this tools it looks so much easier.
9:05 - Is that the choo choo train one? 🤭
I have a question for you. Can you please explain the difference between piece work and hourly work. I think there is something deep between these two terms. It always rings in my mind how my boss can manage picking us from home to job site inclueding expences like gas and personal expences from doing hourly work bcz i am not making a lot from work and i am doing live 50 to 60 hours a week finishing(taping, sanding, applying3coats, final sanding) in 12 to 14 units a week. I think some here doesn't seems quite as it looks from outside. Help
All omnipotent mudgod, I have a question for you if you would grant me the answer. I'm wrapping closet entry for bi-fold door. Using metal corner bead door door fits 36 in opening, the door is 35 1/2 in. I have quarter inch drywall on one side half inch on the other at present. measurement is 36 and 3/16 no mud applied yet. Should I keep 1/2" or, install the 1/4" to give myself more room for mud?
I just ordered 3 inch flusher. I did not order handle, because they asked $25 for shipping. I wonder, does this fit with metal flusher handles?
Ben, ditch the BTE tube! How hard you're pressing on it reminds me of my old BTE tube (the inside rubber ring swells). I got the Columbia Camlock and I love it -- I slap on the angle head to finish corners, it's awesome.
I have one :)
Next video
What’s the difference in the cam lock vs non cam lock Columbia tubes? Is there a major difference is easy of use quality?
The top can pop off for easy cleanup and you can put on a different attachment to fill flat boxes. I rarely take out the pump anymore, the camlock is my favorite and most important tool.
thanks Ben :D
Ben, these plastic corner flushers look like just what I need for corners. Could you just use the Tape Buddy on the thicker setting, apply tape, and then use these cheaper flushers for finishing?
You could do that. But you need to seat the tape in the corner, first. Either a corner roller or a knife will work. Then you’d want to do a second coat of mud with the 2.5” and a third/final coat with the 3”. Dry and lightly sand between coats.
What's the difference between this and a typical $20 handheld corner tool?
Great video. But personally i think this would be better to run behind a tube or a banjo. Just seems like more effort to poodle tail or mud run it then tape by hand
Sure... you show me this when I’m on my finish coat off my basement lol
Do you have to do another coat over? I'm confused. Was it the finished product?
Great video! I always learn something cool from you videos and you make everything fun to watch. If I had a small diy corner project what tool would you recommend for doing a few corners to get a great finish?
I notice that the birds only sang while you were rolling.
where's the link for the "ROLLY THING" so technical!!
Thanks for product review. I have successfully used some of the other DIY tools you have recommended. These kits are pricey. It is cheaper to buy the plastic parts separately without the case.
Love you’re videos ! I’m trying to learn to do inside corners, but having some trouble... I followed the steps in your taping corners, perfect 3 way corners, and beginner corner troubles videos - but find that the very inside of my corners wipes out on the finish pass. It appears like the mid has caked up or crumbled - but just for the 1/4” closest to the corner.
I’ve tried making my mud wetter ( and wetter, and wetter), snd made sure my knife has the corners dulled and not bent toward the wall. Same problem...
I also watched your drywall sanding video to see if I’m supposed to dust the wall between coats - just in case the dust is what’s causing the mud to cake. I didn’t see any mention of that, so I assume that’s not the problem.
Any idea what the problem could be ?
The dust could very well be the problem, hit your corners with a dry paintbrush to get the dust out. Bet that will help! Good luck
Town drunk could be right. It also might be that when you put mud over mud you have a very limited time to work it. It goes on thin and the dry mud underneath starts sucking out the moisture and starting to dry the top coat. When it starts drying it will make a mess if you try to work it anymore. The rule in plastering is “leave well enough alone you’ll only make a bigger mess”. Just touch up any spots when it’s dry.
Try a hockey box with a mechanical head. The heads are spring loaded so if the angle isnt perfectly square.
Hockey box is not used for tapping. It’s a second coat tool.
Yes i know... but so are these plastic pos aswell, at least thats how they are advertised. He says in the vid he had never used a mechanical head. So i figured he has never used a hockey box and figured it would save him some time. But hey thanks for telling me something i already knew.
Where can I buy the tape holder that your tape is hanging from on your waist?
Great vid as always from austraila
Your angle tools always work better if you bed in your Flats first.
He said Doodoo *beavis and butt-head laughing*
I love your stuff but you did not use the 2 inch Columbia angle head right they are not used to spread mud out on a first coat use your box mode and then roll it then use the 2 inch heard you got a way better results it will not leave mud like you did
Dude...did you grow? U look like a giant in the first wall corner
Do you have any videos on repairing ceiling cracks??? I've tried - the results look good, but the cracks eventually come back :(
stress fractures? Try extra screws and prefilling the joints with durabond first?
Why don’t you use tape tools like the bazuka, box..
Ben, what is the thing on the blue handle ?
corner roller
I am a actually a painter that transitioned to a taper because got bored of just painting. lol
Taped my first three inside corners last weekend and one of them has a ridge of mud under the tape. A consequence of not pressing firmly enough as I swept up from the centre to the ceiling I assume. Anyway, it’s solid mud, not an air bubble. Do I cut it out? Or do I mud over it?
If you let it harden, cutting it out is probably the best option, then redo it.
If it will cover with a layer of mud, should be no problem.
Depends how big a ridge you're talking about. You can probably skim it in and make it disappear if you take your time
If my tape was perfectly flat, how thick would the mud be over top of it after two properly applied coats?
@@k1ng401 id say no more than an 8th inch or a few mm depending what system you use
I'd latex chalk the corners before I'd ever try using one of those.
Drywallers work so cheap it is a wonder that they even make any money with the cost of their tools. 😂😂
Cool
If you are in canada why dont you put canada link for the tools ?
3:35 ish. I talk to my spiders, too.
When you said they weren’t your tools, I thought obviously they’re clean. 😉 It’s just a pet peeve of mine.
There's got to be something better than what I did with a putty knife, mud and sanding sponges. You would have told me to go have a bath and fixed it for me out of pity just so you didn't have to keep watching me struggle with it. Omg, next time I will probably just pay somebody that knows what they're doing...
I don't do drywall all the time, so I am in the same boat.
You should try my brother’s method. He puts on the mud, sands it all off, repeat, then gets on the phone and calls me to come over for a visit.....and bring my plastering tools.
@@huejanus5505 at least he gives it a shot himself first, anyone that asks me for help with anything just doesn't want to do it themselves. (seems like.)
👍
The Roly thing is for painting in corners not for applying mud
pretty much my drywall internship....
11:09 the tape is bubbling
Rolly thing lol. Its called a poodle tail
And im just a dum dum painter
easier to hire a drywall guy. well worth it
😊
Angle heads all the way. Way less sanding
Not finished watching yet. But you absolutely need to prefill those gaps with fast set before using a corner roller. Or flushers for that matter.
Looks like the ball on your applicator head is a little oversized. I was using a similar combo that my father had. When it's too large, it sticks and makes it hard to keep it aligned well on the wall.
My setup has the 4 wheel applicator head. I hear people like the 2 wheel but my 4 wheel works just fine for me.
Good to know the plastic applicator works. Thanks for the videos.
So the order of events would be??
1. Embed tape
2. Use 2” flusher and allow to dry
3. Use 3” flusher
And then your inside corners are finished?
👍👍👍👍👍
👍go sk8
What did you want it to feel like 😂
You look like you're eight feet tall in that first corner LOL
A banjo would be so much faster,if not a boozoka
If they sent them to you for free then -yes- it is absolutely a sponsored video.
Spider spider on the wall
Have you got no sense at all
Can't you see the walls been plastered
Now you're stuck you silly ........
Spider!
First!
Second lol
Someone say spiders 👀🏃♂️
NEVER HOLD A COLD HARD PAN AGAIN!
Damm if you were generous the I was exceedingly gratuitous. What a mess but hey it's my first run.
do your clothes stay that clean when you're workin? how's the washer holdin up? yeah,go skate
Second
Do a kickflip
It is unfair to the tools and the viewer to evaluate a tool that you have not used straight out of the box. Use a tool. Find its peculiarities, made any required adjustments and then review the tool. Only then can the user get a fair and balanced review.
Hey. Don't knock plastic.
For some reason plastic knives are the only ones that work for me. When I try steel knives I end up taking almost all the mud back off the wall again. The plastic has just the right flex for me to leave what I want to leave on the wall.
And they are so easy to cut to size for the tight areas where you can never get a real knife into.
But yeah, it doesn't take long to round the corners off of them. Especially since I have been working over textured plaster.
I cut down a plastic knife a couple years ago to tape new drywall into the 2" border around a textured ceiling, worked pretty good and turned out perfect 👌
It pains me to see you do stuff out of order. But I know it's for a demo.
Pfff more like the Vancouver DRYWALLER
