Rodney had impeccable timing and delivery. You laughed non-stop, and notice...not one racial slur or religious slur or sexual slur joke like many of today's so-called "comedians". RIP Rodney, you were one of the very best.
There was a change in the 90's to late 80's as stand-up grew and self imploded. Previously Rodney and Jay Leno were the reigning kings with the classic style of a laugh every 15 sec. The other main style of comedy came from Pryor and Carlin, Carlin being more orthodox, but honesty and confrontation were a major part of their style. Sadly Rodney's style became rare and looked down upon because hacks were associated with it. Most newer comedians were heavily influenced by the later style and with social media being what it is building a library of quick jokes to use on audiences is harder than before and a lot of crowds turn when they hear jokes they heard before. But Rodney was filthy just not on stage, he brought up the filthiest comedians of the 80's, Dice, Kinnison, Hicks. His act was consistent most of his life and didn't succeed until later into his career I think you calling him clean has more to do with what is acceptable to say today vs then . Having jokes about intercourse was taboo let alone your wife cheating on you. Anyways this is long and pointless way to say I agree Rodney is Mount Rushmore of comedians great, but the second half of your statement might have more to do with reminiscing and aging than with facts.
face it ... life is better when lived offline. If you are seeing a comedian for the first time then there is no need to ruin it by seeing them online or ever gong to see them a second time. They will be using the same jokes from the first time the second time you go see them a year later.

As an English lit major I’m constantly reminded of the scene in back to school where his professor accuses him of cheating, says she has no idea who he paid to write about Vonnegut’s book, but they obviously know nothing about... next thing you see is Rodney telling Kurt Vonnegut to pound sand he wasn’t paying!
All of us across America....hold on to the past....Our future holds more sorrows..with all our people we laughed with and our talented singers going...Hold on to Someone you care about and all your Loved ones.
Dangerfield is brilliant, but another reason I love this video is that it shows how Johnny Carson was one of the best "straight men" in the business, as well as one of the funniest men that ever lived. Straight man or comic Johnny's timing was always perfect.
Nobody has ever made me laugh more than the immortal Rodney, simply the best of the best. Need to watch him on u tube whenever I'm depressed. So much better than those crazy drugs with a half an hour of side effects!
You know you're great comedian when you can make people laugh even before you give the punchline. Every single body movememt was perfectly timed. No one delivered a joke better than Rodney. Comedic genius. G.O.A.T
The good old days before political correctness smothered comedy... Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin, Richard Prior,Don Rickles, Mel Brooks... The likes of these comedians will never be seen again
Ade Huggins Which one of them has had a major comedy special lately? Not a direct to video recording of a show, but a legit "Live from Carnage Hall" type of show? Another big difference is I listed American comedians, because it seems like the USA is where the major SJW problem resides. The lifeblood of an up and coming comedian into the 90s was college gigs. This is where they could earn their chops in front of an open minded free thinking audience. I don't know about the UK, but there's no way you would get anyone on either of our lists to do a show on an American campus these days.
I don't think college/universities have the same sort of 'alternative' feel as they used to, it's the same in the UK. That seems to have shifted more towards comedy clubs now, I think anyway. Ricky Gervais is not exactly 'PC' and he's selling out massive venues in the States (not sure about American comics of the same status). I think there is plenty of the more risky stuff out there. Where you find it has just changed.
Fantastic. During Caddyshack, he thought he was bombing because nobody on the set was laughing. They had to tell him no one can laugh on set, the audience will explode later.
These guys were so talented ... I mean Dangerfield can just sit there and put out jokes that are all funny so naturally. Todays tallent just cant compete with these guys.
your probably too young to have heard about a cat around before Rodney called Henny Youngman. He was known as the King of the one liners. He wrote the classic ' My wife's so fat, when she sits around the house. she sits AROUND the house!! Google him. Personally, I think Rodney is way funnier, but we owe alot to Mr. Youngman.
+Matthew Kavelighan Hey Matt, I've been seeing this more & more of late, did you just write my name & post it on purpose or is this a mistake? I've been seeing this happening (not just with my name) on YT more & more, & it's annoying & a waste of time. You seen this too?

Freakin love Rodney Dangerfield!!! Wish I could have seen him live. He never fails to make me laugh, I mean his facial expressions are priceless. He deserves more respect. What a comedy genius he was! Miss Johnny Carson too. I grew up with the Tonight Show.....
@ panda44r. Rodney Dangerfield did an even funnier variation of that joke as follows: Rodney: ''Doc I'm fat and ugly, what's wrong with me?''............Doctor Vinnie B.: ''I don't know but your eyesight's perfect!'' LOL!
Rodney had impeccable timing and delivery. You laughed non-stop, and notice...not one racial slur or religious slur or sexual slur joke like many of today's so-called "comedians". RIP Rodney, you were one of the very best.

+Lee Watkins wow, that's really bad. That's not funny in any way, I knew he was lame.
Great improvised line. Disappointing that Jonnie forgot it twice! Hilarious movie also, EASY MONEY!
fucking genius. Rodney is a legend. one of the best comedians every to live
If you don't like Rodney you have no sense of humor. I'm 34 and grew up on him. My dad and I still quote him all the time. Back to school, Easy Money are classics. Love watching his old stand up stuff too. He's the best
I'm 29 and love him. I don't know how he came up with some of his material but it's all great.

Rodney -- what an original class act he was. Prepared or ad-libbing. Helped to discover many comedians and gave them their first breaks.
Hi Jim Yes I am a bit. 856 418 1
He's the funniest comedian I've ever heard
Rodney would always take a second to acknowledge and thank the audience he was a class act!
"Money don't mean nothing. You got the same head, you're the same guy." Wow, good call.
PaulGreen11 True!! Talk about perfect advice for life.
Being depressed is a lot more fun with money.
Being dead is about the same.
Great honest response! 👍🏼 Comedians and artists today have so much to learn.
They don't make comedians this good any more.
+Phish Munger true dat! They broke the mold with Rodney!
in these precise moments I realize internet is gold for having these magnificent uploads of innocent and classy times.
All of us across America....hold on to the past....Our future holds more sorrows..with all our people we laughed with and our talented singers going...Hold on to Someone you care about and all your Loved ones.
I forgot how funny he is. he was the greatest. One joke after the other. No one like this now, comedians are too much alike.
No one could band out the one-liners like Rodney. What a memory he had.
Funny as hell and NO dirty language.....a true professional.
Depends what you mean by dirty language really
@Anton Of course no dirty language, it's the tonight show, network TV. He does let it rip a little though on his "No Respect" LP.
@geezusispan You don't have to swear.
That was very bold language for TV in those days. They were still showing family TV shows where married couples slept in separate beds.
You obviously never heard his club act. His jokes there would peel wallpaper
Dangerfield is brilliant, but another reason I love this video is that it shows how Johnny Carson was one of the best "straight men" in the business, as well as one of the funniest men that ever lived. Straight man or comic Johnny's timing was always perfect.
The best comic of my generation.
Rodney Dangerfield.
Holy Crap, my sides are hurting, R.I.P Rodney.

323 people do not deserve any respect!
Classic. People could take a joke in the ol' days.
Absolutely true THESE DAYS YOU CANT EVEN FART WITHOUT SOMEONE SAYING SOMETHING SNOWFLAKE SOCIETY
Feminism is shit
The best oof us is in the past, the future is bleak
I had the great good fortune to see the great Jacob Cohen perform in person many years ago. He killed! Thanks for posting this old gem.
Nobody has ever made me laugh more than the immortal Rodney, simply the best of the best. Need to watch him on u tube whenever I'm depressed. So much better than those crazy drugs with a half an hour of side effects!
my favorite comedians of all time. his faces & the delivery are great
From a time when you could tell a joke and that's all it was A JOKE!
Exactly, now people would be throwing a fit about jokes like this, Rodney was the greatest
You still can, just not in the US apparently.
Tell that to the 1.7k triggered crybabies on Social Media
“Once I pulled a job, I was so stupid. I picked a guy's pocket on an airplane and made a run for it.”
You know you're great comedian when you can make people laugh even before you give the punchline. Every single body movememt was perfectly timed. No one delivered a joke better than Rodney. Comedic genius. G.O.A.T
A true King of Comedy, Rodney was one of the best.. No so called comedian today could hold a lit match to this man and his quick wit humor
The good old days before political correctness smothered comedy... Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin, Richard Prior,Don Rickles, Mel Brooks... The likes of these comedians will never be seen again
What? Like Doug Stanhope? Or Bill Burr? Or Frankie Boyle? Or Jimmy Carr? Or Jim Jeffries? Or Brendan Burns? There's loads out there.
Where you find it has just changed.
carl witt liberalism made everyone into pansies
Oh shut up
Fantastic. During Caddyshack, he thought he was bombing because nobody on the set was laughing.
They had to tell him no one can laugh on set, the audience will explode later.
And they were right on
King of the one liners...
+James Taylor No Henny Youngman was king of the one liners. He preceded Rodney.
Boy are they ever missed.? Loved all of Rodney's Movies.? RIP Rodney, & Johnny.
I saw Rodney live once. One of most funniest guys ever. I never will forget him.
These guys were so talented ... I mean Dangerfield can just sit there and put out jokes that are all funny so naturally. Todays tallent just cant compete with these guys.
The greatest!! He was hysterical.
Rodney Dangerfield, The Best of the Best!
The Master of one liners of all time,.......
your probably too young to have heard about a cat around before Rodney called Henny Youngman. He was known as the King of the one liners. He wrote the classic ' My wife's so fat, when she sits around the house. she sits AROUND the house!! Google him. Personally, I think Rodney is way funnier, but we owe alot to Mr. Youngman.
D Grundman You are correct, I did not know about Mr. Youngman. I will look him up. Thanks

+Matthew Kavelighan Hey Matt, I've been seeing this more & more of late, did you just write my name & post it on purpose or is this a mistake? I've been seeing this happening (not just with my name) on YT more & more, & it's annoying & a waste of time. You seen this too?
one of the funniest EVER, hands down... saw him at the Sunrise Theatre in Ft. Lauderdale once and my face and stomach hurt for 4 days from laughin' non-stop--
" He's got my nose." "And my eyes." "And my sympathy." LMFAO

I forgot how amazing this man was.
Thanks for being so well informed.

Freakin love Rodney Dangerfield!!! Wish I could have seen him live. He never fails to make me laugh, I mean his facial expressions are priceless. He deserves more respect. What a comedy genius he was! Miss Johnny Carson too. I grew up with the Tonight Show.....
Rodney the best, miss that man
Its all been said, great talent! Dr. Vinnie boom bots gets me laughing every time!
Patch Adams
@ panda44r. Rodney Dangerfield did an even funnier variation of that joke as follows: Rodney: ''Doc I'm fat and ugly, what's wrong with me?''............Doctor Vinnie B.: ''I don't know but your eyesight's perfect!'' LOL!
this guy, legendary in the comedic genre, notice how. he handle the audience on the fat jokes let's of a string of em 4 the next 2 minutes
His tombstone reads: "There goes the neighborhood"
So him !
Very clever.
British legend Spike Milligan has on his gravestone: " I told you I was ill!" In Gaelic.
Maybe i get no respect
one of the best! smile, giggle, and lots of laughs,, thanks for the fun,,
NOBODY has ever made me laugh like Rodney Dangerfield. The guy was great.
What's amazing is Rodney could keep a straight face through his entire monologue.
