I was studying in Chongqing early 1980's. I climbed everyday to my elementary and high school too. What a sweet and common memory
I love 'walking' around ordinary towns with a local person, so I really enjoyed this. More please...if your camera and legs can stand the strain. Just one thought. I imagine all those stairs make for an interesting journey in bad weather.
Her fitness level is now definitely much less than when she had to walk those stairs almost every day, though she complains about it.
I love these small passageways with old school architecture. Its definitely more impressive to a design student then the concrete box structures with straight wide roads we have in most cities around the world nowadays. It has a cultural and historic feel to it. Hope chongqing relizes this and keeps as much of the old architecture as possible.
We definitely don't want it to be replaced by the boring typical american style cityscape !

The lunch time drama takes me back to when Guyana changed took out all lunch time dramas because the school kids would return late from lunch after watching "The Young And The Restless and The Bold And The Beautiful" so dramas were from 4Pm and 8 PM lol.
In Jamaican it was the same routine..lol....I stated watching esp....B&B from about 1998...very young child with my mom, aunts and cousins...just being 6 at the time. It's was like a family daytime and night time ritual for years....The other one was Generations....but B&B hit differently....so many memories...😊
Reminds me of my recent trip to my hometown in China a few months ago. So many things have changed for sure. Didn't really go to school there but stayed with my grandparents so funnily went past the school that my mum and uncle used to go to. And another school in a touristy location. All I can say is the schools look so much nicer that the ones in Australia. I guess it's expected since I'm from Suzhou but the schools literally have Chinese architecture with the pavilion, Chinese paintings on the wall outside and even the roof tiles were the traditional ones. I was blown out of my mind. The ones in Chongqing look nice too. Makes the ones in Australia look like a rubbish dump.
And tell me about things getting better after you leave. My school got a whole new maths block after I left. My uni got a light rail linked.
Chonqing is one of the best looking cities in the world. I love the vibe and the views. In some ways, I feel it represents the ideal of a Chinese city: mountains, rivers, trees, not sea, etc.

Okayyyy.....XZ was not kidding when he mentioned Chongqing is a mountainous place thats why at the time he couldn't ride a bike😂😂😂....I guess one gets use to the forced exercise when it's a must to climb those stairs daily....lol

Thanks for sharing this tour of your home town with us! I was especially impressed by the fact that the construction is ongoing while people still use the stairs totally being unfazed about it. Both your schools looked so huge. And the sidewalk so narrow. Lots of contradicting and fascinating scenery.

I love the "historic" feeling of the city. Even though I have never been to Chongqing, it feels nostalgic to me somehow, most likely due to the mix of old and new infrastructure.

People everywhere talking, shopping, eating, just being out and enjoying life. What a contrast to what we see in most American cities! You look young enough here so that one could almost think you were still on your way to school.

The generations after us had it easy, mostly with the improvement of infrastructures. I couldn't recognize my primary school, too. For one we didn't have a comfort room for each classroom back then 😂

I have always like this aesthetic, in video games I always love exploring and making cities with lots of twists and turns, alleyways and stairs. Maybe because I grew up in an extremely flat place haha. I can see how some parts of the hill side city would be inconvenient but would love to visit someday!

I just love to feel I'm visiting too💛though I would be so tired of climbing so many stairs 😂but as you say, it's actually great for long-term health to be forced to exercise (except for people whose job already involves physical labor obviously💔). Also It's nice to see that they at least care about making constant urban improvements, something that definitely doesn't happen that often in the city where I live. But at the same time it must be sad to see how some buildings disappear and only your memories of them remain..

Well since I don't get to go, at least I can see your vlog. I was so excited for your vlogs and it's finally here. And I love stairs. One of the things I want to do when I go abroad is to go stair hiking.
That's a lot of stairs😝! After watching this, I am trying to find my high school on google map and just realize the school relocated decades ago. The daily journey might be a grind then, now a fun way to retell old memories.

Thank you for showing us your hometown Chongqing. Yes, I think you are correct, Run For Young is filmed there at the area you mentioned. It's the staircase where the gank usually hang out, down below was the area of their homes: Lao Gou/Peng Yuchang, D Lijiao/Zhou Yiran, Mi Mi/Zhang Youhao and Da Zui/Caesar Guo (Ma Tian/Liang Jingkang and Li Anran/Zhang Jingyi - lived in a super posh area. I wanna go see Chongqing, but the '8-dimension' city with the stairs rather scares me. Hehehe. Love your vlog!
Finally, you were able to show us your town in actuality instead of quoting movies shot in your town.
What was going on at the school,with meeting the teachers and seeing the classroom is what US calls Open House. 😊 interesting that something similar is practiced in your hometown.

Cool stuff always get build when we are in school only to complete after we graduate. For example, in my collect they expended the outdoor swimming pool to olympic size and and is building an indoor swiming. Both are complete after I graudate, so lucky for me where is practically no swimming pool for us to use for the 2 years when everything was under construction, but the incoming students got to enjoy 2 pools.
It's so interesting seeing other cities in China. My family is from Wuhan so I spent most of my time in China there. Definitely not that many stairs hahaha. I'm getting flashbacks of trying not to die climbing up Wudang mountain.

I currently walk for 3 hours per day in a hilly area and it is pretty good exercise for me and helps bring down my blood sugar levels.

Went to chongqing this summer, while visiting my grandparents in fuzhou. Soooooo much stairs 😭
That high school's outdoor sports field doesn't look much used, considering the number of students. Could have been redone. Or, if it were the top high school in the region, at least some gym classes might have been hijacked for cram sessions.
I've been following two guys budget road trips around mostly less populous areas in China. They mentioned that a building could have multiple "first floors" - 1st floor is at one street level while nth floor might be at another street level. Driving on circuitous roads to go from one floor to another floor would take much longer than climbing stairs. I'm curious about address system and mail delivery.
The field usually get repainted every summer, which is why it looks new at this time of the year. While PE classes does get canceled a lot in last year of high school, they are often used during lower grades. Since students still needs to pass their physical training exams which are standards set by ministry of education. The school I went to are very serious about those, since they used to be a school for military families before they opened up to the public. Since this is more of a cram school, so they might skirt the standards somewhat, but I imagine they can't go too far.
I think it's gonna be a lot of fun making this city wheelchair accessible.

I tend to walk a lot to save money and I stepped on rocks and muds,it gets really muddy during rainy season and too hot during summer
