thank you so much for this chongqing vlog! love it! btw. I was totally surprized by the size of the noodle bowl. Thought, it's rather small just bc of the chopsticks. I've never thuoght, ppl eat noodles with such large chopsticks!!! It looks like the chopsticks for cooking... (I come from Japan)

It's 23c in the UK as I write this and I'm melting! My brain just does not compute being able to move around in those kinds of temperatures. I am really enjoying these little local trips, about the everyday life that we would not get to see on the internet.

@@naleenidas8444 Lol. The average September temp. here is 17c. It's strange how the human body adapts to a certain range of temperatures. 23c is apparently out of my body's range. :D

I watched a whole documentary about Chongqing in Mandarin, before I realized it came with subtitles on YT, but not on the Youku app. Fell in love with it, from a distance after watching Dear Diary.

water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) 空心菜 kong xin cai is called ong choy 蕹菜 in america bec most chinese in america are cantonese (can be found in asian grocery stores). In hong kong, cantonese name is tung choi (通菜). In the philippines, water spinach is called kang kong which is maybe from the fujian dialect. Water spinach is used in many asian countries.

Interesting how every part of china seems to have their own way of naming food items. For the 空心菜,in cantonese we call it 通菜 (my family is from HK, not sure if its different in cantonese speaking parts of mainland).

轻轨 in China is actually light metro or just above ground metro, not light rail. In official technical documentations, it's classified by the capacity rather than weight of the rail. And some people call all above ground metro light rail, thanks to Changchun, which called their first metro service "light rail" in order to overpass limits from the central government. The real light rail is usually refered to as 有轨电车(tram) in China.

I was wondering if the green veggie is kangkong "Chinese spinach," and it is~ and made me drool even more~
For some reason I'm thinking the noodle is spicy 😢😢😢 I can't handle spicy huhu.
Also love seeing the local view~ and yet again I envy how clean most of the streets are 😅

Lol, you are brave to eat those noodles in China. I wouldn’t after learning about the chilli oil 😖. Also that sort of cups are pretty bad for the environment, in term of reusability. The one with the flat lid are actually much better as it comes with a stronger cup, the lid are most water tight than other types.

It will have one at least due to the massive size of the city but it is more common in north and northwest of China. That means, from Xi’an to the west of China ( shaanxi, Ningxia, Qinghai, gansu and Xinjiang ) it follows the silk route really well.

I just watched the old version of wrong carriage right bride that I saw u talk about yesterday ,I actually did notice that the conversations r deeper and the story line is moe convincing just like u said girl, but I just couldn’t get over the fact that all the rooms and inner places r so stuffy and incredibly small that the feeling they gave is disturbing at the same time the outdoor scenes were much better ,and all the old stuffy aura is unacceptable to our new generations like the clothes and hair styles so I think it’s much better in the new one . Oh and the original song is nice but come on do u really think we can love this song with this type of music in this day..?? Soooo I loved the light hearted new version ,which is the first time your opinion is not the same as mine on a a drama 😅😂😂bc u r my go to UA-camr when I’m looking for new drama recommendations

Up to the late 1970s, there was still plenty of rationing of meat via meat coupons so I can understand why the old style chongqing noodles did not have any meat in it, and it is much healthier without meat (just take vitamin b12 supplement if cutting down on animal products). Greens actually have some protein altho need to eat plenty of vegetables. If I make my own noodles soup, I would use lots of vegetables. If want more protein, can include soybeans, soybean sprouts, mung beans, mung bean sprouts, lentils, peas, etc. Altho can take some effort to find whole grain noodles in asian grocery stores (easy to find in health foods stores like trader joe's). maybe the version with less soup is more authentic. There are some versions of chongqing noodles with lots of soup. I do see some obese customers and obesity has been a problem in china ever since the 1980s when people started eating more animal products and refined chemicals like oil (oil used to be rationed also up to the late 1970s). Most asians are now addicted to deep fried chicken. Seems like more common to speak mandarin than the local chongqing dialect in businesses.
