To me, a Mark II MUST have a locking E-Mount. Maybe they can do something that combine the lock of the mount on the FX9/Burano/Venice with the twist/button system of the current FX6 (a bit like RED does with the RF-Mount of the Komodo-X). I would also love for Sony to ditch CF Express Type A in favor of Type B cards. As for resolution, honestly if given the choice between upgrading to 6K or keeping this one BUT have access to 3:2 recording modes, I would prefer the latter. (or do both :p) Finally, I wish Sony would bring back some sort of internal 4:4:4 12 Bit recording.
why must it have a locking E mount though? I've never seen anyone having problems with the standard one? Sure it's more secure, but have you seen anyone's e mount lens fall out of the mount?
@@Bast6 I mean, I guess, but the fx6 is the perfect thing for run and gun solo operator setups, if you wanted to have a more robust higher end setup you have the fx9 and burano (or the Venice though that's too far off the fx6 probably)
Love my FX6 the only things I wish it had are: 1. Audio input on the body. I can't believe that after 4 years, no one has been able to make a small adaptor with cable that plugs into the handle port to give at least one XLR or minijack input. 2: Locking E Mount 3: No 4K S35 mode (limitation of 4k sensor) 4. Open gate
I really hope that videos like these are an indication that something is coming soon. Its to late in the cycle for someone like me to get an FX6 or FX9 seeing as the new ones are (supposedly) on the horizon. These delays have been torture!
I don't know your situation but if you are working pro - just buy FX3/6/9 and work. Any of these cams paid for itself during one-two projects. If you already have camera that suits your needs or if video is your hobby - wait for update.

I couldn’t be bothered about 6k and as lot of clients don’t want to deal with the large file sizes, but faster high-speed frame rates, internal sound when stripped down and a RAW codec would be great. Also for the ND to kick in at under two stops - maybe 1? This doesn’t get mentioned often, but in UK conditions, one stop of ND is often all you need and you can’t do that internally. A reasonably-priced b4 mount adapter would also be great, so you could use this cam with tv-style lenses. The Alpha lineup have had the option to close the shutter upon shutdown, which protects the sensor when changing lenses. It’s a fantastic feature, and I’d love to see some sort of sensor protection introduced on the FX6 II with this in mind. • Following Nikon’s acquisition of RED, dare we dream about internal raw? Dare we dream of a world where Nikon actually license out R3D, like Apple license out ProRes? At this point, ANY internal raw would be fantastic.
my only downside with the fx6 is the menu system, having used others, i just cant say that sonys interface is even close to intuitive and easy. yes you will get used to it, but getting used to something bad doesnt really make it good. panasonic offers more features, blackmagic has a cleaner UI and UX, and just about all other cameras can do almost everything sony can, apart from the E-ND. - IBIS: Sony don't seem to be releasing PZ/OSS lens any more. I pretty well leave the 10 year old PZ 28-135 (and it's not wide enough) on all the time (I'm 99% handheld). I'd love something like that new Canon PZ (RF 24-105mm f/2.8) in a Sony equivalent. - eVND: Finer range at the low end. I use the eVND to control exposure but wish it both started at a low strength (say 1/2 instead of 1/4) and had better graduation as it moved through the lower range (I don't that it is that "seamless" at that part of the range). - Autofocus: It's rock-solid in the low base (even with eVND on), is fine in high base without eVND on, but can continually hunt for focus when in high base & eVND enabled on busy backgrounds. - Optional OEM EVF : Maybe even one that plugs into the MI Shoe. Just something that plugs into the camera that does not need rigging up with additional cables, batteries etc. My eyes are getting old.
I love my FX6 but i hate the Display/EVF. I hope the next FX6 will have a better on or a real EVF like the New Blackmagic or just a Small Display on the side like the Raptor.
As a Canon user who's been conemplating a jump to Sony and buy their first cinema camera, Sony needs to come out with a couple of announcements because the c400/c80 is very enticing.
This is such a remarkable camera. I wonder if Sony has a 6K Sensor ready that can offer the same, if not better, low-light performance, read-out speed, and high frame rates.
RF mount poor 3rd party support means the FX6 and its iteration isn’t gonna face much of a competition even with the newer docu style cinecams from Canon
It’s unbeatable with it’s physical functionality and ergonomics but one does feel shortchanged when a $1000 mft sensor bmpcc 4k from 2020 gobbles it up 😢
Fx6 codec is it's weakest point. Cannot believe you can only record long gop at 420 8 bits. Want 10 bits? Only intra. And not hevc. U know what, fx3 can do that. It's insane
The Intra codec wrapped in MXF files of the FX6 are way better in post than the XAVC-S I of the FX3. You can adjust white balance and EI exposure accurately and very quickly in Resolve through the RAW tab in seconds without having to transcode in Catalyst which can take hours for big projects. The workflow in post is just much more efficient with the MXF files of the FX6. When shooting with the FX3, I never use long GOP codecs anyway, but I agree that it’s always good to have additional options. For me, the Intra codec of the FX6 is actually one of the most useful features, the files sizes are totally worth it in post. Greetings
@@nathanielelijah5899 the 1080p on this camera looks terrible, it has huge problems with moiré/aliasing. The FX6 is really only good for Full Frame 4k All-I recording, anything else is a big compromise.
@@ResizeFilmstwo Issues I'm facing (maybe you have a solution to that) are: 1. The 8 Audio Tracks it records due to the MXF format. This can be convenient for some people i guess?!? but for me that only records on 1-2 inputs it just clutters my Timeline with 6 unused tracks. 2. I edit on the maxed out Apple Macbook Pro M1 Max. Long clips play absolutely fine but as soon as i have moderately short clips/cuts (for example 2 seconds long) the playback in reaolve sometimes does not play the sound and then adds the sound with delay or sometimes it takes a few seconds to even start the playback. I have never had this experience with any other Fileformat and i have all the data locally on the internal SSD.
the need to make a bigger better monitor ...the camera is $6k they should give you a 5inch monitor that is great so you dont have to buy a third party one
Let's not kid ourselves Sony will give us minimal improvements, unfortunately. If it sells so well then we can't count on it happening soon too. I think in a year at the earliest.
Typical sony camera: good specs, but horrible to use. The internal display is ok for the menus, but to small to use it as an monitor. the display loupe from sony is a joke. We shot a feature with fx9 and fx6. We loved the low light capabilities, but the ergonomics always were getting in the way. and yes, our fx9 suffered from the red circle error 🫠 I‘d say the picture is ok, but not great and needs a lot of work. Still preferring the footage out of my Komodo.
From my experience FX6/9 are broadcast cams which can be adopted for narrative works while Komodo is best suited for narrative projects and impossible to adopt for broadcast cases.
Going to buy a Blackmagic Video Assist straight away. Oh how I have longed for the day to get away from Atomos and PRR. The Ninja series really is the worst overpriced crap.
It had competition. C70, ursa 12k and red komodo were all released at the time. C70 vs Fx6 was a huge discussion at the time. It was just a more attractive offer for many compared to its competition. You’re comparing a 4 year old camera to the latest releases of one company. At least wait for Sony to update the Fx6.
@@ItsMidasProductions of the cameras you mentioned, only the C70 can be seen as a direct competitor to the FX6 and since it's not a full frame camera, I'd argue that it's a different league as well. So I agree with @TheVexHead that the FX6 was a quite unique camera for the last 4 years.
I would have liked to agree but Canon's biggest weakness is still the closed RF mount. Yes Sigma is coming but it's really late and it will take them years to build up the lens selection that Sony users already have. It's a step in the right direction but they also have no capable entry level models to entice people to join the ecosystem or use as as b cam to the c80. Sony is winning a lot of those with fx30 and fx3.
@@janisbrod I’m not denying that the Fx6 was unique among its contemporaries. I’m refuting the idea that no competition existed for it, and that being the reason it was good. Consumers had plenty of options to choose from, regardless of whether the intentionality behind each product lined up. It was/is good because it was better for more people and It doing more than what was otherwise available at the time should not be a knock against it. I’m also saying we should wait for Sony to release an Fx6 II.
@@getfmlr @ItsMidasProductions probably you work on low project stuff or something were colours are not as important as other jobs. FX6/9 are brodcast cameras with """mediocre""" image quality that had their run because of a lacking competitor. Trust me, when the C80/C400 will come out, FXs are going to sit where they should. And you're saying "..the autofocus system in 2020..." and the video is posted 2024. Not to mention that Sony specifically have had famously good autofocus for more than 10yrs - good in this case being relative though, anyone shooting video for 20yrs or more will be familiar with manual focus since for a very long time it was the only option if you didn't want to either have garbage results or have to reshoot everything multiple times paying attention to nothing moving away from or into the center of frame. @@front_row_video it’s coming for sure! But CVP or any other person wouldn’t share inside information until the official announcement.
@@NicoBaum-dr5sf no of course not
It needs 10bit Long GOP H.264 and HEVC CODECS badly. Also, that 29.97p All-I stuck at a mere 300mbps is terrible. Get it up to 400-500mbps.
Long GOP 10 bit, yes! I filmed an interview on the weekend, it was 70GB. Long GOP is perfect for interviews.
ETA on the the ursa cine 12k review?

In-body audio!
Do we know when Sony is anticipated to announce and release the next FX6 camera?
I’d love a 6K or 8K sensor. 4K 240🤞🏼🤞🏼 some sort of raw capability.
But for the life of all things good at least one XLR & 3.5mm on body & a screen on camera so I’m not required to have two screens if I want to use an external monitor!
All I want is Full Frame primes with OSS. A 35mm and a 50mm (even f/2) and I’d be happy.
Your wishlist FX6 II is the Sony Burano. There is no intermediate, maybe a $10k Burano with plastic body.
Are you trying to move your FX6 inventory? Canon C400 is the camera to buy.
Seems like it’s a lot better than the burano in general.
i love my fx6
My eyes are getting old.
the only Sony camera I'd actually wann buy
CVP is trying to clear their stock of FX6’s since Sony told them that Mark II is on the way
A larger monitor option which offers full focus control and camera control with adequate brightness for outdoor use. Sold.
So supposedly Blackmagic's Video Assist monitors are long overdue and bound to get an update anytime soon (hopefully Q1 2025 at NAB Vegas).
If you're already a canon guy why not just stick with them and go with the C80/400, especially if you already have the lenses
Hear that. Would love the C80, am just concerned client and broadcast PMs can’t get past the Sony name.
Open gate, pro res. Done
This is such a remarkable camera. I wonder if Sony has a 6K Sensor ready that can offer the same, if not better, low-light performance, read-out speed, and high frame rates.
FX9
@@SuperPhunThyme100 FX9 sensor can't do anything he mentioned above
RF mount poor 3rd party support means the FX6 and its iteration isn’t gonna face much of a competition even with the newer docu style cinecams from Canon
What is that camera at 6:13?
It’s unbeatable with it’s physical functionality and ergonomics but one does feel shortchanged when a $1000 mft sensor bmpcc 4k from 2020 gobbles it up 😢
Fx6 codec is it's weakest point. Cannot believe you can only record long gop at 420 8 bits. Want 10 bits? Only intra. And not hevc. U know what, fx3 can do that. It's insane
I haven't tested it myself but according to Sony's documemtation you can record long gop 422 10 bit at 1080p, its only 4k you drop to 420 8 bit.
@@nathanielelijah5899it’s been like that since the fs7. It’s such an outdated and unnecessary limitation of Sony’s high end cinema cameras.
@@ResizeFilmstwo Issues I'm facing (maybe you have a solution to that) are:
The Fx3 is the SAME sensor as the Fx6??
Yes, always has been. Also the same as the a7sIII and the ZV-E1.
The Z-Cam F6 is a better choice at less than half the price.
Global shutter!
FX9 II should precede FX6 II. Let's see what Sony brings to that camera first.
Let's not kid ourselves Sony will give us minimal improvements, unfortunately. If it sells so well then we can't count on it happening soon too. I think in a year at the earliest.
Fx6 II with XOCN
A Camry with 1100 horsepower
not gonna happen
Don’t see one coming out that won’t kill the Burano
Typical sony camera: good specs, but horrible to use. The internal display is ok for the menus, but to small to use it as an monitor. the display loupe from sony is a joke.
We shot a feature with fx9 and fx6. We loved the low light capabilities, but the ergonomics always were getting in the way.
and yes, our fx9 suffered from the red circle error 🫠
I‘d say the picture is ok, but not great and needs a lot of work.
Still preferring the footage out of my Komodo.
From my experience FX6/9 are broadcast cams which can be adopted for narrative works while Komodo is best suited for narrative projects and impossible to adopt for broadcast cases.
I know what you're doing CVP! You did the same thing "revisiting" Canon C70 a while back. Look what happened *wink *wink
Going to buy a Blackmagic Video Assist straight away. Oh how I have longed for the day to get away from Atomos and PRR. The Ninja series really is the worst overpriced crap.
I would love to see LESS PLASTIC in the top handle and a beefier body in general.
It's a good camera because it lacked of competition. Wait for the C400/C80 and you'll start to see way less FX6 around.
FX6 is pretty comfy but it's not a top notch camera in terms of image quality or colours. A C300 MK3 is going to destroy even a newer FX9, night and day. FX6/9 are brodcast cameras with """mediocre""" image quality that had their run because of a lacking competitor. Trust me, when the C80/C400 will come out, FXs are going to sit where they should.
P.s.: I mainly work with Arri Mini and LF, I don't care about this low end cameras but something I have some jobs where I have to use them; all Sony FX cameras (FX9 is slightly better) have some pretty downsides.
If you're doing corporates or """"not artistic""" stuff, they're ok.
Better skin tones 🙏
Bizarre video, a camera being 4yo means it's brand new. You could have swapped it with '2 week old' and the lack of sense with the title would be the same. I have one AF lens for video, mostly just to test things and because it's handy to test stuff with and it was cheap, it's a Sony 16-70 ZA OSS.
