I would LOVE to see a piece on how to set up a work area and work flow with a focus on where you keep your tools for what procedure. Thanks for a great video!

    Just did the front end on my bus home camper. No videos or guides just bought carpet, some spray on contact glue and a box knife. Worked out well for first go. Considering other types of work and the poor quality I have become to expect from people in my town I think it would be just as good as if I paid for it to be done. Took me 30 hours and needed a few patches where I miss cut but the material I chose was very forgiving

  • @MrTheHillfolk
    @MrTheHillfolk Рік тому

    Ive done a few little cloth recovering bits on my latest project ,and 3m super 90 seems to be decent for those items but i hear its best to use some real pro spray glue for headliners.
    Not sure if i wanna do that job myself, ill always see my imperfections.
    Since its a pickup truck, the headliner board is half the size of a car one so im hoping that paying for a pro to do it wouldn't be unreasonable.

    • @LowCashClassics
      @LowCashClassics  Рік тому

      Yeah for a headliner you definitely want to use the contact adhesive. The aerosol can stuff will most likely not hold up.

    Great video, i have an Automotive shop and for many years ive wanted to learn Upholstery repair and customizing to possibly add to my business or even just repair cars i buy and sell. My one question for you is, can you recommend a vendor / company for someone wanting to start practicing, .... to buy Material ( vinyl, leather, foam, Beginners Sewing machine, etc ) ? And exactly what types and brands would you recommend to start with ? If going with a used sewing and, what brand and model do you recommend ? Thanks in advance.

    • @LowCashClassics
      @LowCashClassics  Рік тому +1

      I order most of my materials through albrightssupply.com. They'll have pretty much any materials you need to get started. I'd just order some decent automotive vinyl for practicing. You can get it for around $10 a yard. You'll also want to get some 1/4 in sew foam for backing. When I first started i went on threadexchange.com and you can buy a bulk box of random thread by weight. I ordered a 5lb box and got a variety of colors. This was perfect for practicing. As far as machines it depends on what is available. Type walking foot sewing machine into facebook marketplace and see what might be for sale locally. I was able to pickup my machine (not working) for $200. I put a little bit of time into figuring out what was wrong and got it working perfectly without spending any additional money on it. I use a Consew but there are also so many other brands out there that are great. So do a little bit of looking to see what's available and then decide what best fits your budget. Good Luck!! It really is such a fun and rewarding hobby or eventually career!!
