The Bullets seemed to make a lot of those back then. They were fortunate that the back end of the Eastern Conference wasn't that strong back then because they somehow still made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed.

Cool video. I went to a Nationals game one night during a Capitals playoff game. There was a decent crowd, but everybody was watching the Caps game on their phone or at the bars around the ballpark.
One thing I can’t let go of here… Vikings replacement team’s utter ineptitude (0-3, -37 point differential) that year makes the overall ‘87 team seem worse than they were. In actuality, it was the 8-4 Redskins hosting the 8-4 Vikings for the NFC Title
Several teams had no players cross the picket lines during the strike at all. The Eagles were one of them and the real team actually went 7-5 though because the strike team did nothing, they finished 7-8. The Cowboys on the other hand had numerous players on a team that was rapidly getting old cross the picket lines and went 3-0. That team finished 7-8 though in reality they were 4-8 in non-strike games and the strike games probably were in hindsight why Tom Landry was not forced out after the 1987 season as his style of coaching had by then become outdated (the "flex" defense in particular) and he would not adjust the way others did and likely was why he didn't coach again after he was fired by Jerry Jones when he took over the Cowboys in April 1989. As for the Vikings, that team only made the playoffs because the Cardinals., who controlled their destiny actually folded in their final game and the team admitted afterwards they were spent emotionally after seeing the Vikings lose to set that up a day earlier (as I remember the last regular season game for the Vikings was on Saturday).
Imagine the 1987-'88 Washington Bullets team with Moses and Jeff Malone, Bernard King, Manute Bol, and Muggsy Bogues playing against the Sacramento Kings in an almost-empty Capital Centre, in the middle of the NFCCG... They must've been ashamed during and after the game. Maybe even then NBA commissioner David Stern was embarrassed by it.. LOL

This is very similar to what happened in the exact same city a decade later (on October 26th of that year to be exact) with the Wizards & DC United. For some context, DC United had made the MLS Cup Final for the 2nd straight season & would be hosting Colorado at RFK Stadium (one of three MLS Cups that RFK Stadium would host with the others being 2000 & 2007). Meanwhile at the same time the Wizards would be playing the Warriors in a rare early season Sunday afternoon game at Capital One Arena. However unlike this story, the Wizards did not have the option of rescheduling their game as later that night, the Capitals of the NHL would be taking on Montreal & the Wizards needed to get their game done as soon as possible so the arena could be converted from basketball to hockey. To make it even more difficult for the Wizards to attract fans, the Commanders were playing the Ravens for the first time ever at FedEx Field at the same time as their game & MLS Cup. As you can imagine, the attendance for Wizards-Warriors was bad with only 3200 fans showing up at Capital One Arena to watch the Wizards lose by 15. As for how MLS Cup went DC United won 2-1 winning their 2nd straight MLS Cup. Then with the Commanders they lost to the Ravens 20-17. Lastly, to rub salt in the wound for the Wizards, the Capitals game later that night was a sellout with the Capitals beating Montreal 2-1 in OT to cap off a busy day of sports in the DC area.

Yes 👍, the Bullets 🏀 and the Capitals 🏒, use to play their home games at the Capital Centre in Landover MD, ironically the same city were the Commanders/Redskins currently play home games at. The Wizards & Capitals now play at Capital One Arena located in downtown Washington DC in the Chinatown neighborhood. With the Nationals ⚾️ arrival in 2005 and the opening of Nationals Park in 2008. It has made the Commanders/Redskins even more of an outlier and given that Snyder never invested in maintenance of their current Stadium FedEx Field/Northwest Stadium 🏟️ this has led to the team wanting a new stadium in DC where RFK is.
1991 had the falcons vs San Francisco which was school to be played in Atlanta was moved to the bay while the Braves unexpectedly won the national league western division
I'm not sure the Pelicans and the Saints would be able to host at the same time if they wanted to because their venues are on the same plot of land. As for the Bullets, who played in Landover, Md. back then, what the actual hell were they thinking?! They couldn't even get a quarter of the Capital Centre filled up that day. They had no chance of attracting fans to suburban Maryland while the NFL club over in D.C. was hosting a game with a chance to go to the Super Bowl.
The MLS played their championship game in 1997 and 2000 at RFK at roughly the same time as the Redskins were playing over in Landover (funny enough both those times were against the Ravens). While in 2000 it was 2 teams that weren't from DC (Chicago and Kansas City), the DC United played (and won) in the 1997 game. Redskins played at one with the United playing 2 hours later.
Bullets might not have had a choice. I thought you were going to say that the only NBA game on Conference Championship Sunday this year would be in Toronto. But ironically, the closest NFL team to Toronto is playing, although on the road. Here in Philadelphia, I think that if the 76ers or Flyers were scheduled to play at home today, their game times would have been adjusted for the Eagles. After all, 76ers owner Josh Harris would be at the football game as the owner of the Commanders.
When the Phillies played in the 1993 WS, a Flyers game was scheduled at the same time as Game 5. The Flyers simply moved their game to the next night so as not to compete against the World Series.

Landover, MD isn't Washington, D.C.
They played at rfk stadium back then, it was located in D.C
It’s a suburb.
And Arlington isnt Dallas.. but rfk, where this game was played is in D.C.
@shifty1927 use logic. He was talking about two teams. One is in Landover. But in the beginning of the video he said the two teams were in Washington, D.C. when Les Bulles played in Landover. And when the Redskins left for Landover, many long time fans ceased their support.
@@muggsyaxton8085 gotcha. Was only focused on the skins. As someone from Southern Maryland im ashamed I forgot to think about the capital center.
ITS THE REDSKINS NOT WASHINGTON
