Legit one of the most tragic stories for Richtofen. I grew up with this series and honestly watching the Blood of the dead easter egg cutscene still hits me in the fucking feels.
The fact that the concept of zombies, angels, monsters, extra-dimensional beings, dragons, giant robots, time travel, and weapons of unimaginable power all work in the same franchise is absolutely baffling, not to mention the fact that you grow such a deep connection to these characters and the stories they tell, this truly is one of the best games anyone can ever play.
It is weird how zelensky and blundell had a different vision for the story would’ve been cool to see how the story would’ve turned out if it didn’t change mid way through
I love the small detail that doesn't seem to be talked about often: As time goes on, Richtofen's "Dear diary" entries become increasingly more high pitched, depicting his descent into madness.
it doesn’t get talked about because there’s no conversation to be and about it, we all know what it means that’s like saying the fact that there are zombies isn’t talked about

@@eugeneberry9371 no? While yes, Eddy *is* Edward Richtofen, the events from before can't repeat themselves. For one, Eddy is much younger than Primis/Ultimis richtofen. Samantha is pretty young during the Cold War and she's older than Eddy, so we know Eddy couldn't be a big scientist for the Nazi party. Secondly, dude just play cold war and Vanguard, these games take place after BO4 and are still connected to the old timeline. We already know there's a connection to Eddy, if by nothing else, then at least through Samantha.
“We got more than we deserved” explains the whole zombie’s storyline evolution. Started off with no plans just a simple game mode, and grew into something a lot of us grew to love and created memories with others just like us which we will carry with us. So thankful for this franchise and community
It's hilarious how 3 hours after it was first mentioned in the video, Yena just admits to being a spy all along, it didn't move the story forward in any way but it was a pretty funny twist to reveal before killing him off, especially with him admitting that his passions are apple pie and baseball to hammer further on Richtofen's stereotypes.

When Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen were talking he used their point colors from bo1. Dempsey was white, Nikolai was blue, Takeo was yellow, and Richtofen was green. Amazing job on this!
Would have been fucking cool as shit if the point colors mimic the color of the staffs and the characters who wield them, it makes sense why they didn’t but it would have been nice

I love the fact that the creation of the origins staffs turns out to be a causal paradox. Maxis believes hes creating replicas. When hes actually creating the originals.
I dont think so. I think they are replicas. Just like how richtofen was able to build a time machine during the great war. I kind of assumed with his knowledge and with element 115, richtofen built the staffs. But not sure i guess since then again the staffs were found in origins and the great war was the end. I like to imagine a universe is out there somewhere where Maxis was impressed that Richtofen moved the walnut and he lives a very happy life with a famous instant walnut delivery service… “Richtofen’s walnut services”
Nah, that universe would be like... MAXIS: Doctor, do you think you could transport people with this device? Or war materials? RICHTOFEN: Maybe... With enough time and development, mein device could certainly make travel to anywhere in the world instantaneous.
I can only imagine the sorrow Nikolai felt for Edward when he realized the truth. That Edward truly did his best to help and save them all but just couldn't accept admitting that he couldn't.
they can’t forgive him cuz of what he did with messing with the teleporter. He also used them in bo1 when he got his hands on the mpd n swap souls w Samantha that was his plan. Sadly his doom did come in a tragic way.
I find it amazing how the story behind zombies not only makes all of these crazy maps and features fit into a single story, but it even technically explains the fact these same people fight in the same locations over and over.
Gotta be at least doubt that mate. The amount of time put into editing, research, pulling almost every(if not all) audio file and conversation between characters, etc. has to be longer than the video actually is.
Other Zombie Games: Virus caused it all. Activision when making COD Zombies: Fuck it, lets make it Interdimensional Gods Demons, Timelines and evil rocks
Treyarch not Activision. Activision as every other publisher has no role in the creation of good thing, they are there just to make as much money as possible and ruin the game for us players.

It’s easy as fuck to have this casted for real humans or even animated(easier) and would totally take all TWD hype. I'm a little under two hours in,, and I gotta say, the way the storyline was put together for this video is great. I've tried watching a number of videos to catch up on the lore, but they're always so convoluted and confusing. This video, however, has so far been very easy to follow. Great work
As a Mexican, I find this funny for some reason. A German who had a Russian, Japanese, and a Mexican for test subjects. Then he "killed" the Mexican and was replaced with an American. Seems pretty balanced to me
Great delivery. When alot of the conversations dont really sound like conversations this one is gold. By this I mean you can tell its multiple different takes between lines and they wait until the others lines are completely done

The BoTD easter egg broke something in me when I first did it with 3 other mates of mine. Seeing the sadistic, ruthless richthofen feeling betrayed and left to die when this whole cycle was created only because he wanted to save people who he felt close to that didnt even remember him was damn tragic.
My theory is that Richthofen didn't really die in that chair, he switched bodies with Eddie. That's why he says we won't remember. Because we never got to know him. There's even a German version of that Easter egg cutscene and it mentions dimension 2210 where Richthofen went to retrieve Eddie and bring him to the house. Rictofen was a pretty smart dude.
@@Mattiks12 facts, and I've looked at other videos but there's nothing that holds up to this, nothing that accurately draws together everything that happens from cold war onwards
you’re telling me Richtofen literally says “pictures or it didn’t happen”??? I’m dead dead dead also, I grew up playing zombies and following the storyline. these games and these characters are near and dear to my heart. would do anything to go back to the era and experience it all first hand again ❤️ here’s to you, Aether storyline 🤝
I've played the COD for a good decade now and only found out this year that there was actually a story to it. To say I was prepared to watch this 6 hours fully through is an understatement but now my heart is broke. I really enjoyed Nikolai as a bad ass but he really did have a big heart 😭😭
When not looking at the story, one might find Richtofen to be the best character. He has probably the funniest voice lines of all the characters (at least the ultimis version). But when you find out the actual story you will probably bounce around between different characters. Tank is the apple pie eating, baseball watching, all brawn peanut brain, Takeo is the humorless philosopher, Richtofen is the 500IQ sociopath and Nikolai is the drunken badass who will have to take on the responsibility as the hero of the story. That's at least my take on it.
Watching this makes you realise Dempsey was the rock of the group. He cared about everyone and was surprisingly way more attentive and wise than we originally thought. How open he is with his mind to the others. Asking them *why* their motives and feelings are the way they are. Wondering *how* he can understand all of their viewpoints fairly. *trying* to strengthen the bonds between the group. Listening to it all like this kindof makes me emotional. He genuinely cared about their mental health and always asked about how they felt. Especially Nikolai.
haha its definitely that marine mentality, theyve gotta build rapport with their comrades or else there would be no reason to fight for one another! i love this story and these 4 characters so much and how they all have their own ways of showing their concern (except for richtofen he was clearly just a sociopath) lol 😭
No no no, Richthofen definitely cares the most. He didn't even need the four souls to make his plan but from all his failed attempts seeing the others die, he became attached and wanted them to be okay too. Dempsey was ignorant and while he cared, if Richthofen hadn't gone out of his way to make sure to collect their souls, none of them would have had an ending at all. Richthofen was the rock of the group bringing them together
@@smoothdooth8784 dude he literally could of just gotten tired of repeating over and over and thrown away the other 3 but he would do anything for the three of them he just wanted to be in the end with him
The ending truly did break my heart, seeing what nikolai did not for the world but for his friends as he didn't want them to go through those pains again, it broke me. But it made sense, he chose the lesser of two evils and chose to end it all, he gave a new world a new hope but had to sacrafice what's closest to him to do so. That truly is heart breaking
Agreed...man, and to think we've been following these characters from the very beginning, growing our never-ending love for them and then for it all to end like that...now THAT'S an epic tale
It pisses me off so much that the dark aether story exists. They took all that pain and sacrifice and said fuck it we need another game to milk. Sure 115, the apothicons, the aether, etc are gone, but now we just have aetherium, and elder gods, and the dark aether. Sam and Eddie don’t even get to live good lives. It’s horrible.
@@peanutbutter6720 I don't really see what the problem is, their stories are done and if you despise the new story so much just pretend doesn't exist if it makes you that upset.
I came back to watch this video again and I realised, Nickolai never needed to die in the end he could've gone with the children because he still had a soul and wasn't on the path that created the loop, I believe he didn't want to go on because of what he'd just done and preferred to die with his friends.
I think maybe that because the four characters were bound together across all time lines because of the elemental shard made it necessary. Not sure tho
This story is insane, and so heartbreaking as well. It's weird to me that by the end we considered the story "easter eggs". Even now my friends go "lets complete the x easter egg", like, it's so much more then that. The amount of thought that the developers put into making this storyline was insane and the fact it took so long to tell. All of us here are bound to these characters as much as they were bound to each other.
What hurts even more is that we wanted to see him achieve this better tomorrow. We wanted to be there with them as they achieved it. And to hear that that better tomorrow was never coming. I don't even know how to describe what that felt like. Their goals were our goals. Everything they fought for we fought for it with them. In the sea, all that hard work mean nothing in the end. It's truly shattering.
Idk I’ve heard a lot of people refer to them as quests so you could also look at them as the “story mode” but my main problem with them is how random many of the steps can feel something like the simon says step for moon or placing each of the staves in the giants on origins
Because they started as easter eggs in WaW. Treyarch didn't start making a background story for Zombies until Der Riese, and didn't have a main easter egg until Ascension. The easter eggs were also pretty secretive early on, with most players not even realizing a complicated story connected the maps in Black Ops. Even though they evolved far beyond easter eggs, the community that has been solving them over the years is accustomed to calling them easter eggs because of their origins.
Man that bit at the near the end with all of them laughing and singing make me so happy. I’ve never been a huge fan of the ending, but I’m glad we got that at least
Took me 3 days to watch it but it was a great ride. Very well done dude can’t imagine how long this took to put together but you did the best job honestly thanks
it hurt to see the futility in everything that the 4 did, no matter what they did they were destined to fail. Richthofen only wanted to save them. This story was truly a masterpiece.
I stopped playing COD around black ops 2 and was at a cliffhanger for the zombies storyline since then. But thanks to this detailed 6 hour video I’m finally all caught up.
As someone with no knowledge of this story, I was expecting it to begin with something like "Mad Nazi Science" or "A cold war project gone wrong." not "Alien beings creating reality".
Technically speaking it did start with mad nazi science. The alien stuff was born in BO2’s Origins map, along with Primus and that essentially took over the comparatively simple original plot. If you could even call the original ultimus plot of WAW and BO1 simple.
Oh boy, didn't see that coming today: over 6 hours of explaining a story that is so complex and complicated that it would took over a year to understand its entirety of its scale!

Dempsey is literally my favorite character
haha its definitely that marine mentality, theyve gotta build rapport with their comrades or else there would be no reason to fight for one another! i love this story and these 4 characters so much and how they all have their own ways of showing their concern (except for richtofen he was clearly just a sociopath) lol 😭
@@cancerouscorndog6425i think thats just for the sake of gameplay. It does feel random but just cause it makes the gameplay better.
Absolutely love Richthofen. The way he opens his Diary logs.. Dear Diary, his voice is amazing

He's definitely laying on his belly over the foot of his bed, kicking his feet in the air with the polished boots still on

Gets teleported into a cave with a weird Pyramide that zapps him the first time he touches it.
Immediately proceeds to slap it :D
Man that bit at the near the end with all of them laughing and singing make me so happy. I’ve never been a huge fan of the ending, but I’m glad we got that at least
So wild to think how they just made this stuff up as they went along
Took me 3 days to watch it but it was a great ride. Very well done dude can’t imagine how long this took to put together but you did the best job honestly thanks
U ever gonna do a nuzlocke?
Yo watch you're vida
Took me 2
i'm doing this in one sitting, life is boring
Took me 3 days to watch too lol
it hurt to see the futility in everything that the 4 did, no matter what they did they were destined to fail. Richthofen only wanted to save them. This story was truly a masterpiece.
Who else had no intention to watch all 6 hours but ended up getting hooked and doing it anyways 😂
Me. Background noise but also kinda interesting
It is 5am for me right now so yes
5 hours in
Facts lol
I had full intention to watch it all but I wanted to watch it in parts. Now I'm 4 and a half hours in and I'm not stopping now.
The fucking music holy shit. No one talks about it enough, its incredible
thats why cw sucks man, the old games had so much personality and aura to them. now zombies is stale.
@@rowenlampe7426 yo for real the state of CW zombie makes me depressed
@@nikeonnk super depressing 😞
@@rowenlampe7426 all you people do is complain jesus christ, from bo3 all the way until now, it just never stops
@@kanddyy these people actually care about the state of call of duty, the game gets worse and worse every year and their just pointing it out.
Oh boy, didn't see that coming today: over 6 hours of explaining a story that is so complex and complicated that it would took over a year to understand its entirety of its scale!
The OG zombies crew is irreplaceable. The story is just so interesting
This is such an amazing video and I really want to thank you for putting in all the effort to make this. This is one of those videos that I will go back to every now and then and be amazed by the quality and depth of it. I'm a huge zombies nerd and this video will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you!

Den här videon är verkligen legendarisk
Ahhh yes, one of the most convoluted stories in videos games. Up there with the souls series.
That simply started out as a zombie survival side mode in WAW
what about FNAF? that should be up there too.
@@wolfyeyepatch1971 Nah, to easy to understand. Souls - in other hand, you need understand strange rhymes and etc.
Also - the most convoluted story after COD Zombies Storyline - is actually a "Kingdom Hearts" storyline.
@@ДаниилСтепанов-р1и the kindom hearts i agree with
Also Mortal Kombat, not AS convoluted but still pretty convoluted
You guys are also forgetting the Zelda series. It has multiple timelines and in the end, all of them are combined into one with Breath of the Wild.
The story of Buried alone would make an amazing movie or miniseries.
i loved the buried story
Not really

I absolutely loved this! Thank you so much for taking your time in making this! It's so easy to understand and using the actual voice lines is like icing on the 3 layer cake
You just condensed this whole confusing plot into four or five feature length films. Thank you for this, you get straight to the point the whole time. You deserve more subscribers and views!
The fact that this is nearly seven hours long, when all the "big channels" hardly have hour long lore videos. Shows how much you care about the content you're covering. Good on ya, I'ma binge the whole video now
I was never good enough at zombies, nor did I have the games, but I’ve always been interested in the story. This is a monster of a video. And as someone who never got to experience the full story through playthrough, I thank you for your deep dive.
What a story! Thanks for putting this together. I listened to it most of the day today turning wrenches at work. I knew a bit about the story but this showed me i missed so much. Fook. At the end too. I'm not crying, you are!
Wow, the amount of information I didn’t know before but just now learned is staggering. On top of that, I’ve always struggled understanding how all the events and different dimensions fit into the lore of the Aether story but this video made it very easy to follow. Needless to say I’m very impressed.
