All cards tested in this video were V30/U3 standard under UHS-I protocol. I read that the Legion Go could read UHS-II cards, however the price of UHS-II are still very high. You will get a much better bang for your buck with a UHS-I card right now.
The standout cards from the testing I did was the Samsung Evo Plus, however in real world tests (game loading times), there was virtually no impact and all cards performed the same.
Looking at pricing, I thought the Lexar was a great deal...until I saw the Team Group 1TB card. I would make sure to check out all the current prices because sales are often popping up.

As dumb as this might sound thank you for showing yourself inserting the microSD because I put it in the wrong way and didn't feel the solid click in place and started freaking out thinking I messed up my device
chill bro , youre not alone
Same here. I started looking for any video on how to insert it
Got timestamp?
x2 same for me.
same here bro had to make sure because I'm afraid to fuck it all up
The Samsung 512 gb has been my go to for my dji action 3 and my legion go for its price and performance. It was only 32$ during Black Friday
Thanks for the great video, would be nice if you could do something similar for the SSDs.
Good video. The fact that the load times from the SD cards are only double shows how poorly optimized the games are.
In Europe there's no 1TB option for the GO so getting additional storage is basically a must from the start. When I bought it, a fast 1TB SD card came in at around 100+ while a WD SN770 with 2TB was about 160. I got the SSD. Took me 30 minutes to clone, expand and install the SSD. It's even slightly faster than the original 512GB SSD the came with the GO.
I just had a SAMSUNG MicroSD Card go faulty after one day from NEW on my Lenovo Legion Go
Thanks man, good tips.
Going to wait for a sale on a SanDisk
I did hear that the legion go doesnt* allow the cards to reach top speeds, hopefully they fix that with software updates
Thank you, very helpful. Sounds like the micro sd card reader inside the Go isn't of the highest quality 😞
Thank you for good info
What hub you prefer to connect Login Go to monitor?
You got a new sub not just because it a decent video but your links are for uk/can/us which amazing considering it saves me the hassle hoping I find not a rip off brand on Amazon Canada
Bought 3 of the 1TB TeamGroup cards, for some reason all three adaptors don't work.....lol No issues with the cards yets.
Also have the 1TB Lexar Play cards in my phone and tablets, no issues with them.
Haven't gamed on either yet.
Unfortunate about the adapters, but would love to have you report back after you have gamed with them!
What did you use for benchmarking the card? CrystalDiskMark? If so, which settings?
@Jake Fishman
Thank you for the nice video! I was always wondering what each of those tags would be 😅.
Apparently the Legion Go supports up to UHS-2 Micro-SD cards. Did you find any UHS-2 cards at all?
I would also recommend to only use the SD-Cards for Indies or older titles, as with AAA games they give you loading times from hell (REALLY BAD!) and even less fps.
I would really recommend to exchange the m.2 ssd card to a 1 or 2 TB 2232 model, as they are way cheaper and also faster then 2240 using a cheap extender to the 2240 lenght. Currently there are good offers for the black week available. The m.2 drives cost the same as good UHS-1 SD cards and are on paper 20 times faster. As I experiences without actual speed testing with the build in m.2 loading times where mostly about 3 times as fast...
I did find a UHS-II card but couldn’t justify paying $90 for 128gb card 😬. And definitely, always going to be better to upgrade the internal storage rather than add a micro sd! But some people prefer to not open their devices up, which I can definitely understand. Thanks for the comment!
@@JakeFishmanTech Thank you for your answer! 😉👍
Could you post a link of the UHS-2 microSD cards? Or the brand name and model name? I really couldn't find any over 256/512 GB...
@@JakeFishmanTech And yes, totally understand your point, and I was thinking like that at the beginning too! But after experiencing the sd card loading times myself I really couldn't stand them anymore... Just a waste of time waiting so long...
I realized watching another Video that the Go unluckily only supports m.2 PCIe 3x and not 4 times, so a maximum of "only" about 3500mb/s read speed are possible and not 5000 mb/s the one I built in... Therefore I find them to be still longer then on my gaming pc... Maybe also depending on the a bit slower CPU.
I would also like to upgrade the internal storage, but the info I received from the store where I bought it is that I might loose the warranty (although they didn't say for absolute certainty). How much performance loss do you see fps wise on games?
Edit: I just saw you said that you saw in another video that the Go only supports m.2 PICe 3x, but this isn't true, at least according to their website and fullspec list. The m.2 slot support PCIe Gen4 x4, so you should be able to get the 5000mb/s. In theory, it can even go up to ~7500, although Im not sure there are 2230 or 2242 SSDs with those speeds, and if there are, they're probably crazy expensive
@@lengors7327 Hi, I justbtested the speed with ChrystalMark and had 4600 read speed and About 3600 weite speed, so you are right. Unluckily I couldn't find any 4242 or 4230 nvmes which where faster then the one I bought from Corsair... There are Western Digital of SpeedShark ones which are about same as fast but they are all bot as fast as the bigger ones on pc...
Thanks, good concise review. I had to order the search by date to even see it, as I wanted to look up the team group 1tb micro sd!
Thanks! And I know, that team group card is trying to stay hidden in the searches!
I'm one week in with Team group and the card been working great for me
Great to hear!
you should try Silicon Power, best price/performance ratio.
So what’s the best memory card ( lenovo legingo ) ?? What should I buy
Just an fyi, the difference for many of these cards and prices is the fact that when certain cards get full they slow down to 1/4 speed or less. The good ones don’t. This is the most important information when buying a card you plan to fill with games.
Great point! I will be sure to test this in the future.
As I’m brand new to all of this, I didn’t know exactly which one to buy so I decided to go for the SanDisk 1tb. Did I happen to go for the right choice.
Thanks in advance!
My SD disappears when I start my legion, I have to disable the reenable the drive in device manager to get it to show and if I reset my device it disappears again......
I have the Lexar which writes slowly but worke well for playing on thr steamdeck. On the Go however I get occasional stutter in some games with it.
Very helpful video. Thanks a lot
How about the format? NTFS or exFAT?
Thanks for the video bud
I just bought a sandisk extreme pro 1 tera on the legion go . Crrystal mark 8. Max writing speed 99 mbs reading 86 mbs writing. Seems not bad ? What do you think ?
Same I believe it’s great best from what I’ve used
Mines 190 speed
@@arranspriggs5011 190 seems to be very high did you use crystal mark 8 to benchmark ? 190 mbs writing or reading ?
Did you test 1.5 tb sandisk ultra on legion go seems write speed is low do you think it will be ok on my legio go ? Thanks for your nice videos. Greetings from switzerland ps I understand u2 sd card is better but I don't really understand I which case writing speed is so important ?
Nice video! Gonna give a shoot on Amazon to see if I find something interesting 🙌🏻
New sub btw ☺️
Thanks! 🙌
I personally tried the 1 Tb Lexar card, and it was so slow in installing games that I returned it. It was drop down to like 2 Mbps from 20 Mbps. Meanwhile my Samsung Evo cards have been a rock solid 80 Mbps, meaning its 40 times faster at installing games and loading. There are way better 1 Tb cards for the price.
This was my experience with the first Lexar card I received, it was overheating and the write speeds were getting crushed. However, the card I got for this video was holding their write speeds up with the other cards in my tests. So like I mentioned in the video, if someone wanted to save some money, they just need to test the card thoroughly to make sure it’s working properly and if not, should return or exchange it
Why does Dave the diver and ff9 stutter for me when playing on sd card?? Playing on legion go with the zelda branded 1tb as card from San disk.
What about the black and gold 1tb SanDisk extreme pro ?
Both are good
how to set sd card as installation path for legion go. for some reason it would only show drive c which is my rom and sd card wont show on the option. the device was able to read my sd card since i placed file and game in the sd i was able to access it using legions windows file explorer. someone tell me how to fix this? i picked 512gb legion go cause i thought i would be able to install games data to sd card but it doesnt
Hey there, dumb question maybe, but how did you manage to install those games on your sd card ? I keep getting horrible download speeds around 4mb/s or less. I bought a sandisk extreme 1 tb card.
Regarding UHS II, what do you base your “barely faster” statement on?
Hey - I was just doing some guestimate math with that statement, I don’t have anything to base it off of. However, we know it’s not a linear scale of speed because the internal ssd is only half the load time, but has 45x the read speed. So the UHS-II which has a potential to be up to 3x the read speed as UHS-I would be faster, but how much? I could test it, but probably not much faster in terms of load times 🙂
So basicly u could get a large Sd card and run your low demanding indie games or emulation games on there and keer the SSD for all the AAA titles... I could only buy a 512g legion go so this would be nice
You are spot on!
If I play AAA games in de micro sd, I will lose fps?
I have a sandisk extreme plus why isn't it reading it
Its there a higher UHS 1 Storage sd card available? Like 2-3-4 TB?
Got legion go due to 150€ euro off onsale...gonna spend those on a powerbank and sd card...
Is sandisk ultra 1tb A1 any good for gaming on legion go ?
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the super thanks!!
I just saw this video right after I been look for ssd card and I have both this one 😬Memory Card 2TB Lenovo Micro Sd, Micro SDXC, 2000 GB hope it work on my Lenovo Legion go handheld pc
Hello I have "SANDISK Extreme PRO (UHS-I) - Memory Card Micro SDXC (512 Go, 200 Mo/s, red/black)" for the legion go it's oke ? Mayble later i want buy a 1TO card but not now ahah (sry for my english)
Thank you for saving me money
I have a question for the SD card once you add the game's to the SD card can you remove the card and add another SD card to it and can you add the sd card back or do you have to format it.
You can freely add / remove cards once you put the games on them!
Thanks for the heads up.
I bought a Sand disk extreme pro 1TB but when I did the test in the legion go with Crystal mark the results was awful (Read 95MB/s instead that 200MB/s; Writing 86MB/s instead that 140MB/s) how is possible? Every game I tried to start (cocoon, lies of P, Baldur's gate 3) doesn't start after 10-15-20 minutes of waiting. Is possible that indipendently from the R/W the legion go has a block in reading and writing speed?
Hey Insanity - this is what I was explaining in the first part of the video. That is a UHS-I card and even though they say it can go up to over 100mb/s R/W, it will only be able to go up to your test results.
When you transfer the game to the SD card, steam will need to verify the game files which can take a bit (on big files that may take a long time). Hope that helps clarify some things!
@@JakeFishmanTech I don’t know why but, reinstalling the Xbox app and after formatting the micro sd, now the game are playable 😅
You can't make it go faster than the UHS-I Standard unless you are using a card reader that is designed to take advantage of the full speed. Usually some proprietary card reader designed by the manufacturer
I know its selfish to ask this on a steam deck video but is there any sd card good for running genshin impact in my phone
Hey - in general, the recommendations for sd cards on your phone should fall in line with the recommendations in this video. Assuming it has an sd card reader that has the same speed capabilities as the legion/steam deck, then you can follow the recommendations in this video!
i use the SP 1tb micro sd card zero issues
You need to do an entire video on "DDR200"
amazon messed up gave me 10 1tb msd for 100 lol but awesome comp
Just get the smaller size and swap them out
will a 1.5tb micro sd work with it?
yes
Does Samsung Evo Plus work?
Yes, works well!
@@JakeFishmanTech i would to clarify it's Samsung Evo Plus and not Samsung Evo PRO. Thanks for the reply. 🙂
you have A1 and A1 not A2
The Samsung didn’t seem that overpriced. Wasn’t it like $32 for the 512gb? What is a 512gb normally?
So should I not buy from china will they be fake
The legion go's sd card is trash. I've had four handheld pc's, and the legion go's sd card slot is the slowest out of all of them. it's definitely a software issue as the speeds when transferring files are perfectly acceptable.. it's literally twice as quick to install to ssd and then transfer the unpacked file to sd card.
Best of best korea samsung🎉😊😊😊❤❤❤
Write speed doesn't matter for gaming, only read speed matters.
Might be, but it matters when downloading and installing a lot...
Honestly can't believe you recommended that Lexar card with those terrible write speeds. Even your own graph showed how bad it is.
Hey Invid, from my previous video, I had a faulty A1 version of the card that was overheating. The A2 I tested in this video is working at similar speeds to all the other A2 cards. Like I mentioned in the video, if you do go for the Lexar, just make sure to test it and make sure it’s working to full capacity!
@@JakeFishmanTechAh, Ok.
Tell the truth. Were you high? 🤔
Looks like it 😂
