Your banana info is wrong. The banana flavoring is based on an old variety of seedless banana that is almost entirely extinct now, not the type with seeds in it. Due to the seedless bananas being essentially clones of each other, if a disease comes up and kills one tree it's going to very easily kill all of the trees. That's what happened, and that variety was wiped out very quickly. The banana we have in stores now was around then as well, but not as popular, because it wasn't as sweet.
I’m sorry to ruin this for you But The idea that artificial banana flavor is based on the Gros Michel banana, which is now extinct, is a myth that's only partially true I suggest googling it as there are tons of reputable sites that explain it’s partially a myth and mostly incorrect. It’s a good read and a fascinating rabbit hole. I’d post a few links but links can no longer be clicked on sadly. Sciencefriday has a cool article about it but the first page of Google will have tons of different cool stuff you can read
What alot of people don't think about is those same bananas were also what recipes like Banana Pudding used to be made with. The Bananas used now are considered chalky by comparison and not nearly as sweet. Makes you wonder what original banana recipes tasted like doesnt it?
Oh my god, I thought I was getting messed up by the Mandela Effect when I first noticed Wonka had disappeared from Nerds boxes and stuff. Thank you for confirming I'm not crazy, Raymundo.

You’re correct about the bottle caps! I remember how they were my favorite to get on Halloween, because they used to be wider, thinner, and molded to look like actual bottlecaps! They also used to have a lil sassy bottle cap mascot with purple, half-lidded eyelids - which I am totally unbiased in my opinion that, that is peak character design.

0:25 Wonka Bars were unironically my favorite candy by a landslide, idk if it was the chocolate or the graham cracker bits but I was deveststed when blockbuster and toys'r'us closed down because that was the only place to get them.
It was at first odd hearing someone describe the actual Wonka candy as unique since I’ve grown a custom to seeing their branding all over candy dispensers, but a lot of these I didn’t even know were Wonka brand (granted they took the logo off the a lot of the candies for some reason) or have never even heard of, so that’s cool. Edit:”I was called a slur” I was not expecting that lol.
I remember the peel pops! Those where my favorite as a kid! The peel was a soft gummy gelatine, i dont remember there being much of a flavor, but the icecream was a soft banana flavor, and it was the best!

I remember when nerds had a little story on the box about Wonka finding them or whatever, so this is super cool to see
also as someone who had the peel-a-pops back before they were discontinued, i absolutely adored them. the “peel” part was pretty much like a gummy and it tasted so good, especially the grape one tbh, and the vanilla ice cream paired with both was pretty good too!! i wish they brought them back so badly and i was heartbroken when they were discontinued, same with the wonka exceptionals chocolate bars
I remember being in a full school chocolate decorating competition that everyone had to do. The children were placed into multiple groups of pre-selected children and the top 3 groups in the contest won a chocolate gold wonka bar for each child in each of the top 3 groups. My pre-selected group actually won 1st place and I was extatic. TBC, this was when I was 6 or 7 in the mid 2010s.
10:02 Actually, banana flavored things taste like that because of the chemical isoamyl acetate, and the simple fact that it is almost impossible to mimic the taste of fruits artificially in a way that tastes like the fruit. The idea that banana flavored sweets are based off of an old cultivar (the gros michel (big mike lol), popular before their extinction) is a myth stemming from the fact that big mike had more isoamyl acetate and reportedly tasted different from the modern Cavendish
Love this chaotic posting lately man! Still listening to the vid but was mind blown to know the original wonka film was a failure. Keep this stuff up man!
slight correction on the bananas front: the 'old' bananas the flavor is based on was actually another domestic breed of banana much like the one we have now - the gros michel banana! sometime in the 50s it essentially became impossible to farm in large numbers due to panama disease, which is a disease that specializes in preying on varieties of banana. the bananas we have now, the cavendish, only became popular after it became impossible for the gros michel to make up demand after being nearly wiped out entirely. this is actually still an issue today - the cavendish bananas are now also struggling with panama disease, and one of the big challenges of breeding bananas right now is coming up with a variety that panama disease won't wipe out when the trees are by necessity placed close together for farming. they're expansive and hard to find, but you can actually still find people who grow and sell gros michel bananas, which the flavor is actually based on! usually when i see them for sale in the states, it's out of somewhere in florida. EDIT: ah, you already got comments about that. sorry to add to the pile, lol
chewy runts had a texture that was closer to sweetarts, but they would go stale and harden, when they did, they'd turn into dust when you bit into them, defeating the whole "chewy" part of the name.

the mention of smarties rlly shocked me, since in the UK smarties are little chocolates coated with a crunchy candy shell. i had no idea they were different in the US :0
I swear to god yall if you mfs are like “OMG RAYMUNDO POSTED” or some dumb joke like “I just wonka’d all over the screen” in the comments and get a top comment ima tweak. You added nothing. Comments are a way to add something to the video, add some context or say your opinion. But these comments add nothing. Like, whoa Raymundo posted? No way, it’s almost like we’re watching the same video.
FINALLY. SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT THE LACK OF CREATIVITY. THANK YOU
@@gatocorto7758He favorited this but I think me editing this removed it.
you’re jealous the first comment GET was stolen by my “i wonka’d all over my screen” aren’t you

Mr fun police out here
Gobstoppers used to be my favorite Wonka candy, next to Bottle Caps and Fun Dip, when I was a kid. Just thinking of them makes my mouth drool in a Pavlovian response.
The way you said "I was called a slur" got me, a whole mood lmfao
I never understood why they didn't go all in on the Wonka branding. Like I would be constantly pumping out Wonka bars if I was them.
I remember this one Japanese Influencer did a Nerds themed cafe for a limited thing back in 2023, and MY GOD EVERYTHING LOOKED DELICIOUS.
Wonka getup when nefariously hard. surprised you weren't arrested on sight for the diabolical amounts of drip you were leaving behind. loved the vid as always, keep it up bro
