I think they're a great idea, Shane! Thanks for telling us about them. Something I'd definitely be interested looking at later this year 🤩
These lights and your house look amazing, Shane! Having permanent HomeKit compatible lights would be a game changer and you must be so excited you no longer need to deal with installing and removing seasonal holiday lights. Great video!
🎉 you right Shane
Thanks Brad!!
I love it. The house looks so good.
Awesome look! Love the fact that you can dial them up or down, depending on scenes for occasions and also HomeKit is possible.Really hope HomeKit gets a big update at WWDC this year to remove so many work around, including the dated 1080P limit!
Great work Shane
Thanks Mike!
This is a review I have been waiting for! I've been looking at the Govee flood lights to add lighting to the back yard and the string lights like you did. Lots of great things I didn't think about in planning.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Great video Shane. I really dig the subtle, everyday lighting scene...that looks super cool.
Along with all the other silly ideas I have, doing some lighting like this has always been on my list but I have never really sat down and looked at how I could route the wires/lights for proper appearance & coverage. Might have to give it some more consideration.
Thanks, as always, for the content. Hope you and the family have a great Holiday!
Let me know if you end up moving forward and have any questions. They really were super easy to instal. The planning was probably the hardest part but worth taking the time to do so.
Thanks for watching and happy Easter!
I honestly thought this looked quite tacky but then I saw your accent lights that you use on a typical day. Love it, very nice!
Thank you! 😊
Awesome! I just hope it will be soon available in France. Merci
Looks great mate
Thanks! 😃
Those lights are very nice! I’ll def get me some

Great video, I was waiting for them to be on sale and I have a 2 story house. I like the drawn out image and using a peice of cardboard to space them better, it'll hopefully make my install less stressful
Putting mine up next weekend
These would be great for back garden lighting
Nice lights
I have been looking at these since it came out and hope they get Matter support down the line. Will definitely try to get some for my new house once I get the house up and going with my smart gear. Great vid as always thanks again.
Thanks for watching!
Nice unboxing trick! It does get below negative 4 here in MN but they’ve held up
Great to hear. Thanks!
Thanks for the vid! Planning on getting 200' of these soon! Super excited to see how it turns out. Do you happen to know how they work when multiple power supplies are needed? Assuming they just interact together via the app?
That’s a Bright idea
“The little lights aren’t twinkling”. Great video thanks for sharing
Great video Shane. These lights are great and I bought the 30m set just before Christmas which do look amazing. I'm still working out all the scenes and creating my own which is handy when you don't want to light up the street. I ended up with a 5m section that wasn't required on the front of the house so I thought it would be great to add another short set up on the rear of the house.
Annoyingly when I looked for another power and wireless adapter Govee don't actually sell them separately and I'm not going to spend another £200 for another 15m which i wont need. Contacted Govee customer support and they told me they don't sell them separately which was a big surprise.
Shane I had got a preview of these last year but even though I do have Homebridge initially I was skeptical 1- how good they would look and 2 how difficult they may be to use different scenes. From this video it looks pretty easy and the quality was really nice so need to think more about it as a real option! Thx as always.
Glad the video helped. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this. You encouraged me to buy these and installed them. How did you do the accent lights for in between the holidays without the effects. I can’t seem to figure out how to turn the effects off.
I am extremely jealous!!!!!!
These lights are sickkkkkk! I like how you put the accent lights on the corners of your house. It makes the house look more expensive. Add these lights to your home intruder automation. 😆
Thanks!!
The Govee plugin is one of the best and the developer is really helpful, the Scene integration is really great. I haven’t had the issues that Shane is having.
Good to hear! Which lights have you integrated? Apparently it only affects certain models.
My Buddy just had his home built & had a company install RGB Lighting strips under the ledge around the whole home.
It's high dollar but it's beautiful!
You never have to change your lights again for all holidays, sports events or just looking cool & security. Run it all by his phone! It's awesome but not not like these..
You cannot notice the strips mounted under the roof ridge. Very innovative.
Looks good! Hopefully Govee goes with Matter. I want as few apps and hubs as I can get. I’m not a fan of troubleshooting and updating too many different places.
Thanks for the video. Are you able to provide me more details around running the wiring through your wall of your garage into the soffit?
Looks cool can’t wait for matter. Rather not tinker with homebridge
Love what you did with this. Looks fantastic. Are you familiar with the WLED project? You can do something very similar with over 130ft of LED’s for under $200. Plus there’s a homebridge plugin so you can integrate with HomeKit. Also you can use light channels to cover the wiring and drill holes for the LED’s to poke through
Thanks Nathan! I am familiar with the project but haven't looked too far into it yet. Thanks for sharing!
I have a bunch of Govee lights. I love them. Was excited to see these installed in your house. Not sure if I like the look of the lights just stuck and wrapped around the roofline that’s visible during the day. The flood lights are nice but seems like it will be a headache when it’s time to cut your lawn. Looks great at night but overall not sure if the other factors are worth it to me.
Thanks for watching! Good to hear that you also like your govee lights. I think the permanent lights blend in quite well during the day, since I have white soffits. That doesn't bother me. The floodlights with the lawn mower might be an issue. I may need to adjust their placement some.
I really like your style of house. In Europe, our houses are not split in several sections and smaller roofs. My house is quite straight. 😅. I like the style you have made with some LEDs here and there.
Thanks Tim!
Great video and ideas. I'll wait for HomeKit integration though. I personally don't believe the consumer should be forced into additional expenses to have items work as designed. Thanks for the video.
I was working on setting up WLED lights but haven’t had a ton of time for that yet.
Been meaning to watch this one. Just saw the new Matter M1 strip, really hoping a version of these with Matter come out before Christmas. Just moved into a new two-story home recently, and would love to add permanent lights instead of temporary tacky Christmas lights. My wife is huge into Christmas so it’s one or the other. Not sure I want Home Bridge for one product though.
I understand completely. Although once you have homebridge, you start to find other useful ways to utilize it 😉
These look great and I've been considering them myself. Do they require any complex mapping like Twinkly do or are these configurable without mapping?
I was wondering if you would be able to do a update to this video? Also I’m interested in how you were able to go onto the Govee Home app and pick specific lights to light up. I was also looking just to light up a couple simple lights. Like on the edges and in the gable. I tried to go onto the DIY portion of the app. Still trying to figure it out. Thanks
She’s a beaut, Clark!
🤣🤣
This is good for winter when you have a Christmas tree outside
Great video!!!!! What about if you want to wrap your house? Roughly 300ft? We know you can just install 150ft then another 150ft but can they work together like its 1 install? Any help? I think it would be awesome to wrap the house.
I don’t think I’d have the guts to put those on my house, but I do use Govee light bars with Siri Shortcuts (not homebridge) and they’re awesome!
Hey, thanks for doing the video. I had always thought that you were only Apple stuff. I was mistakenly thinking that home kit was just for apple users. I have kind of bounced around with smart hubs. Lastly, went from habitat to home assistant. I would love to know how home assistant and home kit compare with each other
Question - how far out did you install the lights? 10cm/4in?
Great Video!! Question. On the app I have gone under advance, and I want do that spotlight feature. At corners of my house. My problem is I select the lights that I want on, but above it in that section has an effects it's either doing clockwise cycle, twinkie. How do I turn off the effects so the light just turns up stays on.
Shane can you put the extender anywhere in the strand? If yes are we cutting the strand?
Hi Shane, now looking to do something with lighting.
Did you solve your HomeKit issues?
The Govee and Eufy lights look identical - any thoughts on which is best?
Love the channel, thanks mate
I installed my hue Lily lights in about 30 min.. your lights look great buy not made for the basic installer
What size drillbit did you use to drill through your house to run the cable through?
I'm installing these and I love the way you have the single accent lighting. But in the app, it seems I can only activate chunks of 3 lights at a time. How did you set it to illuminate a single light?
I have Govee for about a year now on my gazebo. They integrate well through Homebridge. I also have their humidity and temp sensor in my cigar humidor. They are a rock solid product. I am looking at getting their sidewalk accent lighting next for around the pool and walkway to the pool. I don’t think my HOA will allow me to keep up the lights year round. That is my only concern.
Oh yea I think their pathway lights look great. I'd love to use them along my driveway if I wasn't afraid of everyone running them over with vehicles. Gould be great for a pool area.
We'll see if my HOA has any complaints 😬😅. I think the strategy of just lighting a few LEDs for accent lighting like shown in the video will be a good compromise. I'll probably only light them all up with crazy effects for different holidays and celebrations.
Your build looks somewhat new, what did you do about your hoa?
I was like meh cause not HomeKit , but once you made your own theme with only the lights in the corners. this is what I want this is what im going for now thanks.
Really want to buy these! Are they available for Australia?
Hello Shane, Nice video very well explained the process.
I've one question how did you select a specific light turn on the corners? At 9:04 sec time frame in this video.
Same question. Shane, can you please help here.
Hi Shane. These look great. And I love how your house looks. You mentioned something at the beginning which is an issue I’ve been having lately. I recently moved house and have had trouble reconnecting my smart accessories. I have a new router too. You said to make sure these lights connect to the 2.4ghz signal. That seems to be the issue with my things as the router seems to have two channels - 2.4ghz and 5ghz. How do you specify which signal your devices connect to? This has been driving me nuts. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for watching Roy. Most modern routers are smart enough to automatically connect devices to the appropriate wifi band. So smart home devices that require the 2.4 GHz band should be able to automatically connect to it, even when using a combined SSID (5GHz + 2.4GHz). If you have issues, you can try to setup a separate SSID for 2.4 GHz only, or temporarily disable 5GHz to connect your devices.
Question… do you know if the most recent update fixed the blacking out on Apple TV when switching inputs/visual settings? Apple said the update was coming but waiting in confirmation before upgrading cause I have the first 4k model. Thanks as always in advance
Shane at this section of your video @9:03 could you tell me how your able to turn on/off specific sections of lights?
I figured out how to turn off certain sections of lights but there are four lights connected per section. In your example you were able to narrow it down to one or even two lights. How were you able to do that.
Can you explain how you control each light individually in the app?
For a 2 story home would you recommend 1 kit per floor or going with one large one?
Can you sync multiple strands that use different power outlets together? For my application I don’t think 150’ will be enough.
What did you use to secure the clips? Screws or Brad nailer?
Shane, way over the top but love how you can pick different corners to get that subdued look! Did you do that corner lighting with the Govee app or HomeKit? Thanks!
Hey Dan, thanks for watching. You have to create the customized effects and "snapshots" like that in the Govee app. Once you do that, you can use HomeKit to simply turn them on/off every day.
was there an easier way to program individual LEDS in the advanced feature? the layout pretty small and not too responsive.
I've got a Govee wifi RGB light strip in Homekit via the verified Homebridge plugin. Performance in Home kit is absolutely awful...sometimes works, but mostly doesn't. I've still got to open the Govee app to control the strip. Not sure if the strip is just a bad product, but I'd definitely be nervous about investing in lots of Govee lighting with the hopes of it always working well in HK.
How do you get the sections of lights to stop perfectly on every section of house?
It was the best video that I have seen. I tried to install the plug in but I didn't get it. Does plugin will install in my smart phone or laptop? Do you have some tips to install it ? thanks !
Thanks for watching. You will have to have a basic understanding of Homebridge in order to use the method I did in the video. Homebridge is a lightweight server that must run on a dedicated computer.
Awesome video. A couple of questions: For the non lit extensions, I can't seem to find them separate from the kits. I was going to order a $100ft kit + 3 of the 16ft lit extensions. Any part numbers or links to the non-lit extensions?
I don't think they sell those separately, last time I checked. The 100ft box comes with one, which is what I used. You may try reaching out to the company to see if there is a way to get some non-lit extensions somehow.
I've had the flood lights for about 7 months now and my only complaint is the wires are short between the lights (especially the main power brick to the first light) and there is no way to extend them or also add onto the 4 from the box.
How much of the power cable do you have before the lights begin?
@ShaneCreates do you know anything about the new H706 Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro?
Hi Shane, I wold go for an outdoor LED light. As I'm in Europe, I could only find the 10 meters long strip Do u think (or know) how I can buy an extension to it? What I need is around 14 meters. Tnx for your advice!
how many feet did you use? can you connect as many strings you can? is there a limit?
How long is the extension cord with no lights that came in the box to span the roof to the next gable?
I have 200m of these sitting in the garage, will get to it this summer. Can you share the link for the extension units. Thank you!
I've not been able to figure out how to program the spot lights. Only one light in certain areas. Any videos out there on that?
How did you only light up accent light setup I can change color but how do you shut off rest you don’t want on?
hi, i have a question, how do you control each separate spot?
Wow they look incredible!
Is Govee going to become Matter certified? And if they do, will lights bought now get an update? I'd love to do something spectacular like that when I finally buy a house, but I don't want to buy it and be stuck with homebridge if there will be one a couple of months later which will just integrate straight out of the box.
I think they do announce the matter support on the led strip lights, should be support more
@@PonPon-lr8ce thanks 😊
Can the power adapter and plug be in the attic and the lights come out the soffit?
Im stuck between finish installing the Govee RGBIC 1st generation outdoor lights, or take them down and return them for the Govee PRO ones. Im just not sure if I want to spend the extra $400 for the PRO ones. Is it worth it??
How did you program just the corners for accent lights
Are the separate extension cords still available? Govee website does not seem to have them
How did you get the lights from the bottom of the triangle to the inside of the triangle? Did it just go over there eve? Thanks
Gotta connect them to your t1 tv camera so when you are watching horror movies the neighbors will know
I'm really interested in these but I have been waiting/hoping that they'd support Matter. It'd be a heckuva thing to install these and have Govee turn around and release a new version that supports matter.
Would be awesome but I doubt it. Govee’s strategy seems that they plan to release new products that support Matter, rather than updating existing devices. They’ve announced a new lightstrip with Matter coming soon but no mention of updating existing devices.
@@ShaneCreates That's exactly what makes me hesitant to buy these. If I knew they'd never release a Matter version, I'd be more willing to buy them. It seems like they may release a new version with Matter and I'd have to uninstall.
Thanks for the reply! Love your channel!
i have a few spots that i have to jump eaves do they sell extension kits that do not have lights just a jump connection cable?
Can you tell me how you synced the upper and lower level lights? Do you have two sets of light controllers? Coz I noticed that the lights are synced.
How was the music mode? Was it in sync?
I have the 100ft govee pro lights.
I cut 2 lights from new strand to add lights onto a corner, then added 12ft blank extension cord to it, then on the other side added the rest of previously cut strand but lights conected to extension cord don't work😪 I have the pro ones. Somebody told me to reverse the longer cut strand??
One drawback to these vs say the much more expensive Gem lights, is that these are 16.6’ strands, and Gem lights are individual lights that consecutively plug together. So that if there is an issue with one light you just replace that one instead of the whole 16’ strand like these. The other thing is that the cable on these is white, and my soffit is dark blue. It will stick out on the soffit like a sore thumb. In order to combat this, I have purchased paintable plastic wire covers (typically used indoors) and paint them to match my soffit colour. That’s a real pain and I’m not thrilled about sticking anymore double sided tape to the soffit than I have to. Gem lights wiring is tucked under a colour matching aluminum track. So all you see essentially is the bulb of the light in the track .
But in the end, it came down to cost for me. The quote I had for Gem lights was a little over $5000 for just the sides and front of my house, which would be roughly 200’ give or take. I got these on the 35% off summer sale, I bought the 100’ kit along with the 50’ kit and the sidewalk lights all for $630 CAD. So yes there is a bit of a drawback to these vs Gem lights, but cost easily won out. Gem lights had better get with the program and cut that middle man (installers) out, because these Govee lights will kill then!
Love this video. My fiancée and I watched it and then ended up watching a handful of your smart home videos to get some ideas.
One question, at the point where you just had a few of the corner lights on, how exactly did you do that? I just got a set of the permanent outdoor lights but can't figure out how to turn some of them completely off, but I'd like to replicate the look you had.
Thanks, and once again, great video.
Hey Tom, thanks for watching! You can control each light manually in the Govee app by going to your lights > Color > Advanced. There you can "erase" and color all the of LEDs individually. Once you have them set the way you like, save the "snapshot" (green camera icon) so you can revert to it later.
@@ShaneCreates Awesome, not sure how I missed that before, but it's working now. Thanks a ton!
@@ShaneCreateshow do you turn off the effects? Even while deselect the individual lights, it still seems to cycle through the effects, even while having the speed all the way down
I wish the came in different colors besides white. They will stick out like a sore thumb on my black and beige soffit.
Can you add more than one extension?
Where did you got the three extension lights? I am trying surf the web no luck any help.
A general channel question: is your oldest kid going to college? I’ve not seen anyone making smart dorm room guides for HomeKit similar to what you did for your dad’s place. I’d like to automate my kids air purifier and maybe add a door sensor, but she’s not someone who would set that up on her own.
So how did you cut and splice the wires?
Hey, are you aware of a way to install these on the sides of a house that only has maybe an inch overhang from the shingles?
Can you stick the adhesive on stucco?
how many boxes did it take to complete your house?
