Most people on the internet "Here's something i hate and why i hate it and you should too!" Uncle Derek "Here's something that is bad and why I LOVE IT!" all with the biggest smile...this is the content we need right now!
I can't agree with this enough. My entire youtube feed right now is full of "The Last of Us Part 2 is terrible and you should feel bad for liking it" videos for example, bless Derek and his videos full of fun and positivity.
@@tylosaurusrex101 i feel like alot of the YT algorithm is now geared towards negative content, so it's much more prevalent, whereas this is something that should be negative and giving it a joyous fun spin...but then most of SSFF stuff is geared that way and it's so refreshing!
Derek be needin to talk about Last of Us 2. Only he and CinemaWins can make stupid opinions turn into slightly less stupid opinions, worst case scenario.
I've got some really bad news Derek, I looked into the voice from Duke Nukem, unfortunately it's an emulator bug, the voice is fine when played on a real Gamecom. Learning this made me really sad, it was just too good to be true I guess.
7:33 I like how they tried to include the period after P in "R.P.D." but it just makes Leon's shirt say "RAD" while he gives you a look like an Easter Island Moai statue.
Correction: It's not impossible to run up the tree. The trick is to let go of the dad as you make contact. If you press anything else you will disrupt the animation and fall. I've beaten each game with each character. That's how dedicated I was to ringing enjoyment out of this. :)
Ok, I never would've tried letting go of the dad (my own dad, I assume?) to beat a Sonic game. But then again, that would've been a pretty big sacrifice to let go of my dad just to finish a game that's part of the series that I don't even like.
@@aleanddragonITA it will become impossible. Unless you make someone adopt you only to let go of them or something. Or perform a sacred ritual of soulbonding with someone who has a dad and then make that person let go of him, but I would not recommended that (unless they're your enemy and you wanna hit two birds with one stone by making them feel abandoned).
All I really remember about this thing is that a kid in Sunday School said he would take it with him on a deserted island, with the justification that it could send email, and could therefore be used to call for help. Nevermind that satellite phones were already a thing by 1997 or that the Game.com could only connect to the internet using an external modem that had to be plugged into the wall, nope, let’s go with Tiger’s second failed attempt at competing with the Game Boy. XD
The duality of man on Resident Evil 2: The channel "Rerez": It leaves one of the characters out, it controls real bad, "it's a straight up bio-hazard" Derek: It can talk, controls bad but you can go anywhere, it's decent!
I had a gamecom when I was a kid. We got it from a kaybee toys bargain bin and I had Duke nukem and wheel of fortune. The system was 20 and the games were 5 dollars each. At the time it was actually pretty cool
Having owned one of these, my two critiques are... 1) It’s basically a Nintendo DS before the tech was there to achieve it. 2) It’s totally a natural progression from the Tiger handheld LCD games.
Tech for touch screen was bouncing around way before Gamecom, PDAs were a thing after all. More than likely Nintendo was probably prototyping or checking that stuff out, but I'm guessing like always, they were waiting until the tech was dirt cheap enough to license or implement.
SaintAlia_of_the_Games I don’t really think it’s fair to compare PDA touch screens to the DS. They are night and day different. Tiger tried to come out with a black and white touch screen interface when other handheld consoles like the GameBoy and Game Gear were already in color without touch screen capability. That alone would have been enough to doom the console. That’s exactly what I meant though. The DS benefited greatly from just under a decade of tech advancement in both color touch screens AND internet connectivity. Not to mention processing power. You can see how much the Game.Com struggles to run even a dumbed down version of Sonic. Of course money was an issue too. Companies aren’t going to release a product that costs $1000 because of its components when the market won’t pay for it.
@@ruekurei88 The Lady of the Knife taking Occam's Razor to this is great. But my opinion on the DS/3DS screen is that they were waiting for it to be reliable and maintainable rather than cheap.
No, it's worse. The ghosting on this system can be quite horrific and worse than any slowdown. This emulation is showing up the device in a much better light than it actually is.
“How did this happen?!” Tiger leveraged existing relationships from their LCD handheld business with license holders and promised easy money by taking all development and marketing in house. These emulated video clips betray the complete unplayability of these games, especially Sonic lol. The screen refresh rate on the actual hardware is probably the worst of all time. Cannot see a thing when any game is in motion! But I love this handheld. I got it for Christmas in 1997. I actually ASKED for it. I wanted it. I bought a whole mess of games for it. A beautiful train crash.
I loved Duke 3D, Resident Evil 2 and Fighters Megamix on the gamecom. The official emulator runs at speed that is kinda slow compared to the actual hardware. I set the speed to 120 in the config file. The emu will error but will still proceed with emulation. Not exactly the definitive way to play the games but being able to see what's going on it a big help. Also, in that tree you were stuck on in sonic jam...run full speed to the right and let go of on road in the tree. Holding right sends you back to the right. Odd to say the least.
I wanted to say that this type of video is the exact reason I have been revisiting and binging on the Punching Weight (and SSFF in general) playlist. To find a level of joy and positivity in the face of some combination of incompetence, hubris, and negligence. My life is kind of feeling like that right now, and I was semi-consciously drawn back to SSFF because I remembered just how good it made me feel even when talking about things that were terrible disasters. People are going to screw up. But instead of getting angry or being filled with hate, maybe take a step back to appreciate the scope of what was attempted. Not everything can turn out perfectly, and in a lot of situations, important lessons (and even joy!) can be learned along the way. Thanks, SSFF.
