  • Finishing up the new RC4wd toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 body set with some patina! This is a challenging body to assemble but I am pretty happy with the outcome.
    this kit is available here: store.rc4wd.com/rc4wd-trail-f...

    May have to get one 9f these bodies and pay tribute to my 76' 55. Had the old Kelly green and white. Was a fun rig.

    From my experience, usually a silver undercoat will help with the scratches and wear, looks better as the truck gets trail rash. Also, you can spray with "adhesion promoter" to help the paint adhere . Pus, I used to use engine paint (adhered to Lexan really well) For the life of me, I cant see why this body has to be Lexan, however. You need a heavy weight on a leafed truck! You got some great results!

    I’m not a fan of lexan bodies, and specially this new one from rc4wd! No thanks! the only reason I passed this one! The chassis seems good! I had a feeling it was gonna be a monumental task in putting that body together! And I think you did an amazing job!👏😎👍

    Challenging for sure! The 2001 Tacoma was a big disappointment but they really put alot of details into this body. I wish it was a hard body but at least it can be finished well if you take your time and pay attention. You did a great job! Odd choice by RC4WD in my opinion , but it's growing on me. The LWB is my favorite TF2 so it's got that going for it too. Looking forward to seeing it run the gorge!

    having seen the 1:1s the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum has of the FJ55, this one looks pretty good!
    For "Not a lexan guy" you did pretty good!
    the Museum is in Salt lake, and the one you speak of is near all original! only a few items were replaced during it's service life.

    I'm with you, I'm no fan of lexan.
    My first kit was a lexan body and I tried scuffing (inside) and the first time I took it out the paint chipped off in pretty big chunks. It was such a pain I just applied duct tape all over the interior instead of fixing the paint. Never again, hard bodies are so much easier.
    All that being said I applaud your results!!!! It looks really good

      @@anibalbabilonia1867 thanks, it's good to know I'm not the only one. I didn't use the adhesive aid, just plastic primer & paint. But like I said. That's the first and last lexan paint job I'll do. I had bought a traxxas TRX-4 Defender body before painting the other one. It was pre painted and I added duct tape before I ran it because of the issues with the paint job. So far no issues. I guess the factory knows how to paint lexan. I'll leave it to them.

    Good overview of the process. Came out nice! From all I have seen, and what you experienced, that body is a Bear to put together! Or should I say Pig?

    Very nice work man! Wonder why Rc4wd is done with the hard bodies? I don’t care for the lexan bodies, except for when I use to race nitro RC .

    I know I'm late to the Pig Party, but I have one coming to me today! One thing I'm not a fan of is how high the body sits on the chassis. The RC4WD description mentions adjustable shock towers (two holes like the Gelande 2 hoops?). It comes with 70mm and 90mm shocks, do you think swapping those for 60mm and 80mm shocks work or would I run into binding issues with the steering linkage?

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  7 місяців тому +1

      It might help. The real thing it needs to sit lower is softening up the leaf springs. They just had way too much arch for a lexan rig.

    • @DaveFitz

      Thanks...same ol' RC4WD problems! I'll work on loosening them up.

    How does the length of the body match up with the TRX4 Defender body? Shorter or longer?

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  2 роки тому +2

      It is 12.37 inch and the defender is 12.75 inch. Could make it work easily.

    I had a 1972 FJ 55. It was brown and that weird peanut butter color . Great job on the paint . I think it would of been better as a hardbody. Do you think that body would fit the Gen 8?

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  2 роки тому

      It’s a pretty large body. I know it’ll fit a trx4 so it should fit a gen 8 pretty easily

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t think they are done. Every now and then they do a lexan set. The last one I remember was the Tacoma body.

    Not the cutest Toyota but definitly a thing.
    Too bad RC4WD is not able to get someone like you to do a real paint job for the boxes ... it would sell way better.
    Usually when you have issues with Philips screw, it's because they are not Philips but JIS

      Agreed! I like the FJ55, but the box art doesn't do it any favors.
