Reminds me of that speech in JLU, when Clark was fighiting Darkseid. “A world of paper”. He was handling everything here with the slightest touch, being ever so careful to not even remotely break a bone. What he must want to do to that individual if only he could take it like Darkseid.
Poor Clark. 😬
I thought he was gonna put that man face first thru the bar lol

"A world of cardboard" indeed!
Not just any egg, a chemically washed one with almost all the natural protections of the shell removed
I know Clark doesn't like to use unnecessary force, but it would have been neat to see the counter flexing down a little, from him pushing down on it.
@@hellomark1 the dude's head would've popped before the counter starts flexing down

@Ender Duck Yeah no that was not what was happening. This is a guy trying to prove himself to how family again.
I love how even while being completley ready to threaten this guy he walks into the diner so politely.
That's because he's talking to a cockroach. Clark's only fear is that he would accidentally break every bone in this man's body by moving too fast or being just a fraction too rough. The actor portrays that flawlessly. He is offering the man mercy and it shows.

It’s a great balance of him playing Clark as nice and decent without playing him as a chump.

And the best part is he’s not even doing it as Superman but as Clark Kent.

I can only think that Batman would've been so proud of Clark right there.
@@sendilkrishnan2866 Makes you wonder how Bruce would have handled it without becoming Batman
@@Prometheus-SuperBat That's the difference right there. For Clark, Superman is just the costume he puts on, but at heart he's still just the farm boy from rural Kansas, raised with the small town mentality, and a good heart. Conversely, for Batman, Bruce Wayne is the mask, the costume... Bruce is an entirely fictional persona for Batman to wear as a cover. Batman is who he is at his core.
So, it wouldn't be that Bruce would have become Batman, Batman would have simply resumed being himself.
When Clark says, "I will come for you," *Batman Nods In Approval* 😅

For a man who is used to using violence to get his way and is a bully, there must be a unique fear when you try your usual routine on someone and you bounce off them like they're a steel beam and then they hold you down like you're a very small child.
I think that is what had the guy so freaked out, no matter how he wiggled he wasn't moving at all. I can imagine one could feel the force that wasn't being applied yet, just being held in check.
Sometimes that's the only way to reach the coward within every bully.
"You cannot fathom how hard I am trying how hard *not* to hurt you." - the message Clark sent perfectly
Strength is the only language a bully understands, whether it's some jackass in a diner or a dictator in his office.
Just shows Clark Kent can be equally as terrifying as superman
A more experienced Clark Kent at that.
Makes me wonder how terrifying Bruce Wayne can be
@@Prometheus-SuperBat Very true, Bruce does that very well and effectively. Still, when it's Clark, Mr. Nice Guy, suddenly channeling that dark vibe it works pretty well too. That's without even knowing who Clark really is.
@@Prometheus-SuperBat Bruce Wayne cannot be terrifying, as that's purely a fiction that Batman wears as convenient cover for himself. Batman is who he really is. Bruce will always be a way to deflect and distract, so he will never be terrifying. If Batman needs to terrify someone, he just stops pretending.
When Clark needs to get to superheroics, he puts on his costume. When Batman goes to work, he puts on his uniform. These are not the same thing.

They just could not comprehend that they couldn't hurt me.
Wish this was a humble brag, but it didn't even enter my mind to fight back or be smug. I was too busy being upset that they hated me enough to want to try and hurt me.

Agreed! Bitsie absolutely crushed it this season
The “I will come for you” was so fucking cold. Every nuance of what those words meant was reflected in his tone.
They cut out the best part. At the end he says 'my wife will expose you and everything you've done'. He didn't threaten him as superman, he threatened him as Clark Kent which is honestly everything.
And if he did go after his son and wife again, he'd probably kill them so ultimatum really not that effective. I've never watched this show, but Super-man's credo will definitely get his family killed in this scenario.
Next scene: Clark is on his phone.
Clark: “It worked, Bruce. Thanks for the intimidation tips.”
@@justjeff386superman doesn’t have “a credo”. He just doesn’t like to kill. If push comes to shoves, he has no qualms against killing
@@Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmiam That's pretty much a credo..all life sacred. Many people die as a result of it in Man of Steel. So, like I'm saying, next time this guy will just kill his wife and son and then what? Too late
Dean Cain said it best when he played Superman in an older Lois and Clark TV show: "Clark Kent is who I am. Superman is what I do." But the guy who entered the dinner in this scene was not Superman. It was Clark Kent. A decent, peaceful man who got pushed when his family was directly threatened. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually forgot he was Superman at that moment (it would explain why he apparently forgot to pretend to be impacted when the guy pushed him the first time, especially in front of so many people).
It looked like everyone in that Diner noticed Clark being shoved and not even blinking and was like ummmm ..wait he didn't even flinch.. .. except Lana.. seemed like she knew.
I mean even Lanas hubby was like WHoa when he saw Clark didn't flinch at all when that guy shoved him and he was a well known tough guy i.e. low life.
Something else Dean Cain was wrong about. Long list.
Superman is who he is. Clark Kent is just a mask, shaped by how he sees humanity.
Loved how it paid homage to the Superman 2 Diner scene but it also took inspiration from Man of Steel. The bar scene where the trucker tried to push Clark with no avail. I love that this series pays tribute to ALL of Superman's live action adaptations.
That little worm really doesn't understand the gravity of the words " I will come for you" from this mind manner father.
Especially when the father is Superman😅
I think he understood the gravity of those words while he was being held face down on the counter and not able to move by hands that felt like they were made of steel and hearing words as cold and hard as that same steel.
Yeah, trying vainly to struggle with all his strength to get out from under the grip of a man who is calmly and casually holding him down with one hand while showing zero effort being put into it is surely leading him to a false understanding of the dire warning being whispered into his ear. 🤦♂️

I want to see this guy pop back up towards the end of the season with a haircut, wearing a suit, having become a productive citizen, all because Clark threatened him!😂
Or, you know, try and attack him again? 😛
I could imagine Bruce Wayne smiling during this scene. Lol
Only subtly, from the sidelines, when he's sure nobody was watching. Batman, on the other hand, might have just have broken out in a rare grin, making a mental note to watch the replay from his suit's cameras after the evening's patrol.

I like the subtlety of telling the guy “I will come for you “ not “ I will find you “ …. You can’t hide you can’t talk your way out of it all you can do is sit where you are and wait for the end
This show really does encapsulate a modern Superman in this day and age. Fucking good work all around. The simmering rage in his eyes and his voice. The fact that despite all this, he still manages to control himself, and not give in. The way he slams him on the table, the tiniest bit more force, and he could just break his skull. Such great acting.
I love how when he is leaving the house Lois says this isn’t a job for superman and Clark says “oh, he isn’t going”. That was So cold.

lol
He held himself back even by human standards. He could have easily snapped a finger or broken his teeth and no one would think it's out of the ordinary
Clark: “so you’ve chosen death”
This also shows the amount of restraint he has learned to have. Think about it. Superman, when slamming that guy on the counter, could have "accidentally" (a) snapped the guys neck in the process or (b) threw him through the counter, floor and several layers of the Earth's crust. He has matured into a very conscientious and careful superhero.
He has to. Look up Superman's "World of Cardboard" speech.

@@FPAlpha Except there's more to people not knowing Clark is Superman than him just putting on glasses. Something that really makes Reeves' portrayal special, and now for me Tyler too, it's that their Clark Kent and Superman are 2 completely different people. Especially Reeve. He changed his tone of voice, his personality, plays like he's clumsy and goofy, changed his body mannerisms, even hunches a little bit to appear shorter. You can also just go with his glasses being kryptonian technology too as was another explanation in the comics.
To be fair, all the people that knew him in school didn't think he was that nerdy, I mean, he's a farmer, they knew he was a bit tough.
Who else is sad they didn't get to see this guy connect with that right jab, just to watch him break his fist on Clark's jaw?
that's why he didn't let him connect.
I’m not. That would be a Superman move. Swiping the punch away and slamming him on the counter is a Clark Kent move. And I loved it.
I'm more impressed with the control Clark has over his speed. Considering his reflexes and speed the effort to SLOW DOWN so much to make it look like the guy had even a small chance to connect is very fine control. Yes, he is used to appearing as a normal human having done it his whole life. As Clark he stayed away from situations that would risk him exposing who he is. To appear as just a very fast and strong HUMAN while in an actual fight shows how skillful he really is. With all the people around that is handy. Not even flinching when the guy tried to shove him was risky but also a choice I think. A little extra to help make his point clear to that a**hole. I'm making a stand against you and you have no hope of moving me from it. Still, it was nothing that would be extreme enough to make people start asking questions. A lot of gossip for sure. "Did you hear how Clark handled that guy? I didn't think he had it in him! He always refused to fight even back in school. I guess people can change."
There are humans who can tank a punch to the face. There are no humans who can tank a punch to the face without moving at all, and break the attacker's hand in the process. Had Clark done that, everyone would have instantly realized that he's some kind of metahuman.
oh he made a stand. quite literally in fact.
One thing I like about this scene is how you see someone accustomed to using violence suddenly find someone he can't overpower. I mean, really think about what it means to be held down by Clark Kent, the guy who can lift trucks one handed like they were toys. The immediate sense of powerlessness and danger must be immense! And I have to say, I love the amount of restraint Clark shows! He easily could have torn this guy limb from limb, but manages to be just the right level of menacing. Maybe he learned it from Bruce. :D
i imagine it would be akin to having a metal beam bolted to the table over you.

This is the best superman depiction. I really don't like superman because he is ultra powerful but i just love this show and Tyler. The characters of both superman and Clarke are superbly written and have their own challenges and overcome them brilliantly. Just brilliant.
He is not ultra powerful. He gets beat up all the time. Just because he holds back a lot.
He kinda is though and for a while I did not like him cause of it either but when you look deeper into it, he grows on you. A lot of his losses are utter bull shit that happens cause plot needs it. In reality very few can even hurt him, and then you add mental blocks to hold back he put on himself and also that he can just always go and power up more by the sun, or the time when he spent so much time inside the sun that he became literal God and recreated all his friends from scratch.
@@-Mister-_._-Sir- Umm.. this has nothing to do with what the plot needs or doesn't need. This is how Superman works. Try to read comics once in a while. Or see the animated version.
Superman will ALWAYS hold back. If he doesn't, the planet is dust. He is literally that strong.
Second, he always measures opponents, finds weaknesses and how to take them out BEFORE he starts to retaliate. Just look at his BIzarro fights (which is prime example on this strategy). He lost the first two encounters since he had no idea how strong Bizarro was or any of his weaknesses, but once he got a pretty good idea, we had the showdown which ended with Bizarro unconscious. Remember, he doesn't kill, so it has to be done this way.

Great character acting by Hoechlin - you can almost feel the rage he has inside him and his desire to just let loose but he knows that even the tiniest application of Superman level strength will kill the guy and Clark is not a killer.
So much restraint and control even when he slams him onto the counter - he could have easily broken cheekbones or his nose but didn't and that guy threatened his family.
I really respect Superman's restraint. He could've Homelander'd his ass and call it a day, but he subdued him (while holding back greatly), and just scares him. Extremley disciplined, and goes with the saying "With great power comes great responsibility."
Scumbag begins to realise he miscalculated when he literally hit a brick wall trying to shove Clark. The force Clark uses w/ ONE hand, slamming the dude on the countertop... while maintaining enough control to not crush the dude's skull. And he doesn't just let him up. More like a one-handed yank that easily could've thrown the guy through the building. Satisfying beyond words. Tyler Hoechlin's Superman/Clark Kent is masterful.
Superman should have pushed back a little when he pushed him. It's big suspect that a full grown man shoves him and he doesn't move.
Especially when he puts the character that he’s clumsy
I don’t think he gave a flying floop in this moment lol
He's known to be farm strong, so yeah it's suspect but not out the ordinary in a world of supers
Tbf, Clark is 6ft 2 big strong farm boy. Dude is naturally huge
maybe, but I think it goes to show just how serious he is. especially compared to an earlier episode when he and Lois are investigating into Manheim and they come in and grab clark and Lois and hes all like "woah sorry careful" when he doesn't need to be. In this instance he was just pissed. doesn't give a damn about the act he knows he is better and stronger and wants to show hes not messing around. Most people wont really think much of it anyways just "damn Kent is tougher than we thought"
Let’s appreciate the acting here, he is holding his rage in so well, he could kill him with his pinkie finger with no effort yet he just slams him down while making it look like he’s trying. He’s had to hold back his entire life.
Superman showed Super Restraint. As a father/husband myself if somebody hit my boy or pulled a gun on my wife...daughter watching or not, that probably would have been his last meal.
You would also go to jail
You cut the best 2 lines out of this whole thing. Lois: This is not a job for Superman. Clark: He's not going.
Reminds me of Superman II and Man Of Steel bar scene really good callbacks
People with true power do not need to raise their voice, a soft whisper has more effect than the loudest shout. Fear the wrath of the righteous man. A true father will do anything and everything to keep his family safe. When that father is also Superman and you have hit his son and pulled a gun on his wife? Every breath you take, for the rest of your life, is because he allows it. Clark has a nearly flawless memory. Even without it he will remember what was done till his last days. Even more than all his power it's his morals and convictions that has truly set him above all other heroes. I'm sure he had a few passing thoughts on doing something more........ extreme. As always they were just passing thoughts. I will say, for the first time, that someone has gotten close to the (in my opinion) best on screen Clark/Superman. Christopher Reeve of course. Understand that this is extremely high praise. And Tyler keeps impressing me. The way he said "You hit my son" with a stone face and flat detached voice was a distinctive change from the everyday Clark. It came off as scary as if he said "I'm here to kill you." He only needed the tiniest fraction of his power to handle this guy, or kill him if he was that way, and that is all he used. He didn't threaten him either. He explained. If you even think about doing that again or any of the other harmful things you have been doing I will come for you. He came to the diner because of what happened with his wife and son but also took the opportunity to add the rest in. That's just how Clark/Superman is. You know the other things bothered him too. That's what makes him the iconic superhero. I have never lied to myself and thought if I had his power I would be the same. No, I wouldn't take over the world or rampage through the streets because I was angry. However I also wouldn't have the incredible restraint he has dealing with truly bad or even evil beings/people he faces constantly. After the second or third time having to stop someone from trying and/or killing more people I would probably not let there be a next time. I have morals and I don't want to hurt anyone, but if having those morals means people keep dying at the hands of the same person I would have a limit. Superman MAY have a limit but it is so far above anyone else's it is almost the same as not having one. And even though he does not have to he follows the law as much as possible. Turning the bad guy over to the "authorities". Do not kill. So while I might make sure someone does not have the chance to kill more people, Clark/Superman won't let the actions of another person make him change or even bend his own standards. Again - it's his morals and who he is on the inside that make him the best, not his power. There have been others with kryptonian D.N.A. that Clark has had to fight and stop. Other beings with enough power to actually hurt him. Almost all of them are "bad guys" because they end up thinking might makes right. Superman is might FOR right. All the alternate realities where he goes bad or gets controlled are not nice places. To end (and stop babbling on) I say again I wasn't really sure about Tyler because of how they handled him on a certain show before Superman and Lois. But from the start and consistently since he has shown not only to be a very good actor but one who can portray both Clark and Superman very well. Especially when you see the most powerful being on the planet have to work at being a good dad like any other guy! Or when a certain look from Lois can stop him mid sentence. Alien or not he lives as part of humanity and has a family. No superpower is going to make that easier for him than it is for anyone else. Luckily he is just as extraordinary as a person as he is as a superhero. Much respect to Tyler in bringing Clarks struggles along with Superman's to the show in equal measure. He does both very well. Now I'm going to play the clip again and enjoy seeing him do those very things.
Ok, just re watched the clip and had to add just a tiny bit lacking from my post. Tyler was full on badass through every second of the diner part. "Clark, is everything all right?" - slight pause - "NOPE". I grinned at that this time around. Lana was probably freaked. She knows Clark well enough that the simple one word response was not like Clark at all and she also knows he could level the diner with a forceful exhale. I now also think she and her daughter held Kyle back because they knew Clark was in no danger at all but also that it might not be a good idea to get near Clark at that moment. Good writing and great acting. Also, Tyler was full on badass! That guy has no idea how lucky he was.
"If you had super-hearing, any second you'd hear the... pop!" - Superman vs. The Elite
Come on you cut out one of the best lines of the scene when Lois says this is not a job for Superman and Clark says he's not going
Nothing against the movie Superman actors but why isn’t this man one of them cause his portrayal is amazing
Cause the movie directors thought he was too small to play Supes. Tyler is 5'11" and until recently nit that built. It's a shame because his acting has been class in this series.
Guy’s lucky to have simply been slammed on and held by a guy who can move several planets out of orbit in 1 go… That is superhuman restraint right there as he could easily have splattered the guy on the table…
This is the scene that I wanted to see in MAN OF STEEL.
This is just Derek Hale right here
"boy, he's going to feel pretty stupid when he finds out"
"finds out what?"
"he's f***ing with the wrong family"
Nice😂
Took a page out of Bat’s book “I will come for you” 🥶
This is one of the best Superman scenes ever filmed. It demonstrates a great understanding of the character and what makes him great. The anger is palpable and the restraint that he needs to show is unimaginable. It gives insight into how Superman needs to constantly restrain himself, and even this doesn’t make him lose control. Tyler Hoecklin portrayed it perfectly
Oh yeah, he's met Bruce before.
Went full on Batman here
Batman would have dislocated the dude's shoulder and separated his elbow. Clark went easy
Probably my all time favorite Clark Kent scene. Love for his family comes before anything else.
I really need to just watch this show, all I’ve ever seen are these short clips on UA-cam and they look great! Thnaks for sharing.
Bear in mind this is a guy who can go toe to toe with Darkseid...
He's not that tough in this show but, he is probably the toughest we've seen in live action. Dude punched earth so hard that it split back into 2 earths (there were 2 alternate reality earths merging into one).
If it had've been Bruce Wayne he would have worked him over up and down the street.
Wonderfully executed. Awesome Superman
I got to be honest, this is one of my favorite scenes from the series. Clark Kent, NOT Superman, going after the person who harmed his child, was epic. No body excepts the quiet person to do anything, until you push them.
Now imagine if Superman was some sort of brutal anti-hero who isn't afraid of killing in his rage. This trash of a man was extremely lucky.
To be able to control ya emotions and still be hella enraged knowing u could literally pluck him into the atmosphere is crazy also this acting is top notch
Clark:That was fun, I can see why Bruce does it.
My favorite scene! I love Tyler Hoechlin! Nobody messes with Superman's family and gets away with it!
Batman would approve and be so proud of his BFF
that is the single most STRONGEST moment of clark's life, the sheer absolute RESTRAINT it took him not to crush that awful man after hurting his family, holy hell
I LOVE when he just bounces off Clark’s chest.
Man of steel did it, and now my favorite portrayal of Clark did it.
Show him what’s what, Kal!
INSTANT Superman II vibes!!!!!
And Man of Steel
OK OK, I'll watch Superman and Lois now. XD
I really love moments like this and in Man of Steel where random human bad guy gets aggressive and "pushes" Clark, and he doesn't move even a single nanometer. Both times I've seen this, the guy STILL gets even more aggressive and tries to keep fighting.
The added background music add to the already tense scene!! Loved it because it showed the true restraint superman has to show.
I wonder how much he had to dial back his strength when he slapped the guys face to the bar. I imagine he would have to practice not accidentally killing people with what for him was gentle physical contact.
I mean the man was probably shitting himself since it probably felt like a semi truck was pinning him down
It’s honestly so impressive the amount of strength he’s holding back. If he wasn’t when he slammed that guy into the counter he would’ve just exploded into a pile of blood and broken the counter and probably floor too
One of my favorite segment of the episode
They have never cast a bad Superman.... Ever.
I like how Lana's husband was ready to come to his rescue with a bit of a smile on his face like "welp, gotta help the ol nerd out in a minute".
Then he sees him in action just sits down realizing he wasn't needed.
And he and Clark grew up together (not as friends). He has NEVER seen this side of Clark before. To him, Clark was always a nerd who seemed easy to bully, even in adulthood. Pretty satisfying reaction.
This basically takes the ending diner scene from Superman II and takes it up a notch. I especially love how Clark doesn’t lose his cool, he gives the jackass a chance to talk it out, and defensively just takes him down.
I like how the music feels almost like a heartbeat- it shows how the tension is rising along with the visuals. Sounds are so cool :)
I'm not sure if it's number 1, but it's got to be in the top 10 dumbest ideas to hit SUPERMAN'S kid.
Number one is probably Batman.
1:24 man of steel bar scene reference
The amount of restraint Superman has is beyond human. Greatest.Hero.EVER
I love how the music is gone except for a soft beat that sounds like it’s Clark’s heartbeat, it even speeds up for a few beats when emit first looks at him, it would be terrifying if it started to speed up and he got angry
"Hes not going"
