just wanted to say thank you, I appreciate you taking the shroud off so we can see how the belt is routed, much appreciated.
I'm no mechanic but I can follow instructions. By watching this video and following the steps I was able to fix my truck. Thanks!

I believe he explains in the video that this can be done without taking anything off, he does it with the front exposed so we can see what he is doing better
Yes, I didn't take anything off..
Makes it easier to get to if you take the stuff off
Best vid on YT for this belt replacement.... Thank you.
+Mostly humble 1 Thanks for checking us out!
Excellent explanation. Thanks for the help. I was also able to manage the installation from the top rather than the bottom. It was surprisingly easy.
you dont really need to do any of this, as long as you have a 1/4 inch sockets for the tensioner you can change your belt on the side of the road
Exactly
On my 98 it was much easier to manipulate the tensioner from the top than the bottom, I also found it much MUCH easier to save the alternator pulley for last.
Good video all in all, comprehensive and straightforward.
RIght!
Believe it or not you don't have to take anything out to get the old serpentin belt off and the new one on... I did it with a broken collarbone 1 handed...
If you maneuver everything from the top it's a lot easier than crawling under the truck and reaching up. However everybody has their own way of doing things,... so none the less... Nice video...
I think certain years have more clearance than others
I have a huge mechanical fan on mine and I can't even get a breaker bar or socket on it
just did this on my 5.4 . pretty easy. to make more room unclip the round intake clasp. Then just lift it up out of the way. Also a great time to shoot the MAF sensor with some spray. You don't have to take off that front shroud, or the intake connectors. Then put a breaker bar on the tensioner, and slip off the belt from the alternator. I did all this from the top side and not underneath. The hardest part is installing the new belt. Just take your time and double check the chart. I started on the lower driver side and routed to the AC side. Then push down the tensioner and slip the belt on top of the alternator.
+00vortech Thanks for the feedback!
I like this guys they go straight to the point not bs. Just good video
Just bought a 2003 with 175k. 4 weeks into a pretty good truck my wife just drove "a mile" after the belt slipped off. I'm hoping to be able to replace it based of this video. At least so it can get to the shop.
Got that belt on in less than an hour. Got super dirty but no problem other than a few hick ups getting it back on. Just need a 1/2 Ratchet and your belt and your ready
Great video, thanks!
Thank you!
The one I am working on has a different type of dealer pulles and I can't figure it out help
Desde México me sirvió su video aunque no entiendo nada el ingles
+Oscar Garcia ¡Me alegro de haber podido ayudar desde lejos!
What do you do if the tension thing is froze and won't move?
Be careful if you are going to take the airflow off. I took one of the hoses off and when I put it back on I didn't realize one of those little elbow tubes had a hole in it. Truck was running like shit. Got all those shitty hoses changed out now. Running like a champ again.
why did you remove the fan shroud?, you took way more apart then actually needed to be
No need to take anything off. Cover or intake pieces. All you need is a 3/4 drive for the tensioner. Route belt on everything but the P/S pump, pull on tensioner laying under truck, then slide on P/S drive.
Why would you loosen the tensioner from the bottom?
You left out the most important part how do you take the damn fan off LOL and what did you use for the tensioner was it a 15 mm or was it just a regular ratchet head???????? the main reason I came here is because I wanted to see if I could do it without removing the fan so does anybody know....... you did say keep in mind your fan will be on for some repairs so I'm assuming I can do it with my fan on I don't know.......
I just replaced my belt on Sunday. The belt does not fit over the fan, it routes around only the left side of the pulley. If the routing diagram is missing from your truck you can find it online. You can do it all from the top. You don't need to remove a bunch of parts, etc. You can lay under the truck to do the lower pulleys if you want, but it isn't necessary. Soooo, Loosen the clamp holding the air intake snorkel on the throttle body, pull the air intake snorkel off the throttle body and move it up out of the way to give yourself some room and to see a little better. You don't have to remove the entire snorkel section. A 1/2" socket fits in the belt tensioner hole. Use the ratchet to take off the tension and remove the old belt. Pushing toward the center of the truck (clockwise) removes the tension. The longer the breaker bar, the easier the job. Route the new belt, with the belt on to all but the tensioner pulley. Again, using your ratchet, move the tensioner pulley until you can slip the belt on to the tensioner pulley. Reinstall the snorkel, re-tighten the clamp, and you are finished. I hope that this helped, Have a Great day!
Well done video. Thank you.
+Alexi Vack Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
Imagine the fan in the way
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪
Now show me without an air conditioner how to run the belt
Usually amazing videos, however this one was missing quite a bit. One minute your undoing the cover, then, BAM fan is already gone. So this video is not so great for step by step.
You showed how to take the fan belt off with the fan removed. I think it would have been better had you shown how the fan comes off you're not doing anybody any service by showing them how easy it is with the fan off without showing how to take the fan off
PapaThmperr jam a pry bar between two of the four bolts around the Waterpump pulley (where the fan is screwed on) so that it can't spin, then take a big Crescent wrench and unscrew the fan. You might need to hit the wrench with a hammer to shock it loose. I can't remember if it's right or left hand threads
@@noahgullion2 You don't need to take the fan off.
@@panicfever1277 Ikr, waste of time..
I was a professional mechanic for 10 years and a part time mechanic for the last 25. This is a perfect example of why I hate Ford engineers. All makes have their engineering faux pas, but Ford excels in them! Anything that requires periodic maintenance should not be this difficult to service! Unfortunately my father-in-law owns a ‘97 F-150 and I’m on my way to install a new belt. 🤦🏻♂️😒
Nice hillbilly mod the truck owner did on that air filter housing. Good grief!
