This video shows you how to install a new timing chain tensioner from TRQ on your 2003-2008 Toyota Corolla. The timing chain tensioner ensures the correct tension in the engine timing chain to maintain proper contact with cogs and gears. The timing chain tensioner may become frozen, or too loose, and it would need to be replaced.
This process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2003 Toyota Corolla
2004 Toyota Corolla
2005 Toyota Corolla
2006 Toyota Corolla
2007 Toyota Corolla
2008 Toyota Corolla
Tools you will need:

Great video. Now he just needs a new serpentine belt, because that one has many cracks on it and is ready to go out
Very good video. A quiet garage helped to hear the gentle clicks. The engine started perfect first time. Thanks.
Very thorough and clear, exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
I didn't need this video yesterday while I was stripping the motor to replace the time chain. I did come across it when I was searching for info.
I needed it tonight, now that I'm reassembling everything and needed to know how to release the tensioner.
Great video. Much appreciated. A new Serpentine ? Lol. 😂
Thanks man, again just for the review of this component, havent done it for many years, about 7 i think. This helps a lot.
Also the serp. belt in this vid of yours is ready for replace also.
Again thank you, see you to other vids.
Awesome video, thank you so much. Guys you need a torque wrench, please use a torque wrench
I did my 04 corolla step by step but I never heard the clicks. But so far is running great. Thanks for the videos. Please make a clutch flywheel replacement video
I heard the big click when I went counter clockwise, but nothing when going clockwise but it moves freely. I guess it popped the hook and set in place in one movement
Perfectly explained!great video,great material.thank youu.🙏🚙👋
Excellent video Thanks
Hi Ty u for the vid! What is the worst that can happen if you at the beginning of this procedure, you didn’t release the pressure by turning the harmonic balancer and the crank bolt? I ask this because a lot of other vids don’t do this pressure releasing step. Ty again!
Great video. Is that the cause for an oil “burn“ or loss in these corolla
Legend. Thank you!
Really good informative video. How did you know the tensioner needed to be replaced though?
Great video
Hello friend, good video, a question before removing the chain tensioner, did you place the car on time?
I wish someone would show how to do this on a 2004 Rav4 without removing the engine. I'm having a tough time removing the wiring harness that covers the timing chain cover.
On my 2010 Toyota Corolla repair manual said to release tensioner hook turn crankshaft to counterclockwise then clockwise. Now I have 2016 Toyota Corolla 2xr-fae should turn clockwise to release the hook
I noticed some loud rattling sometimes especially warming up in the morning. I inspect and find out a huge leaks at the tensioner. Find this video helpful, thanks
Que buen video gracias
I just did a timing chain job and the chain is not tensioning with the new tensioner. Does it need to run to tension the chain fully? Just don’t want to finish assembling without being confident in it.
At the same time! Nice work! Thank you so much for this video:-)
+@chrisdavis8299 Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Is it the same process for a Gen 3 2010 Toyota Prius?
Perfect 👌
What do I do if it the rattling gets worse after starting the car the first time? What do I look for on the test drive? Any answers would be greatly appreciated!
What indicates tensioner replacement? Other than oil leak at tensioner itself?
Did you have the car lifted in order to turn the engine after install?
Hello is this the same for a 2009 Scion xB?
Is there supposed to be any slack in the chain at all when the tensioner is operating correctly?
What is the value of torque (nm or lb) you applied
Thanks
What kind of RTV do you use?
What rtv spray do I buy
How long does it take to perform this procedure for a proficient mechanic
Probably should tell people they need to turn the engine to TDC, to avoid jumping a tooth.
Is that a 3zz engine?
Or you can simply add a 236 ml bottle of 'AT-205 RE-SEAL' to your engine oil and that should swell up the old o-ring and stop the leak.
Can that chain tensioner be a cause for a ticking noise? I’ve looked all over the internet and no one seems to have the same issue
Apparently yes. Have you found an answer? I’m just relaying what people have told me when I asked them, I’m not a car guy
took you long enough there slim
😂bottom it out, yeah your really hung eh?😂
Awesome how you literally show everything but how to get the damn tensioner to retract onto the hook. Kinda FUCKING important.
pull it out a little more , thsts not what she said
Thats a timing belt!!!
