This video is for the 4.6 motor. I have a 2000 F150 4.2 V6 motor. which has a different tensioner and different accessory configuration for the fan belt routing. On the 4.2 the tensioner does not have a slot in it for a half inch ratchet or breaker bar to fit. You put a 15 mm socket on the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley and turn it counterclockwise to release the tension. There is a single bolt that holds the tensioner assembly to the motor which has a torx head requiring a size T47 torx male socket to unscrew it. You don't have to remove the shroud and air breather/throttle body tube to replace it. This guy apparently removed all this so he could show all the components for viewers. I just bought both idler pulleys and the tensioner pulley and new belt. I was wondering if I could just unscrew the tensioner pulley nut and replace it without taking the tensioner off the motor. I do not know if the threads on the tensioner pulley are right or left hand threads. So I don't know which way to unscrew the bolt whether counterclockwise or clockwise. Anyone out there seeing this before Jan. 3 2019 whom knows the answer to my two questions please reply.
Now I am a bit confused. One site said to use a T47 torx to remove the idler pulleys and tensioner for the V6 motor. Then on another site it says to use a T50. So I guess I will need to get both and if the 50 will fit use it. If the 50 is too big use the 47. Definitely try the largest one first as I don't want to strip the torx cavity using one too small.
Zed Cartwright did you ever find out which torx socket to use? I have the same issue and just wanted to purchase everything I need to be squared away.
Which way was it?
I am trying to change my pulley now.
I bought a T50 for mine today but it was a little loose and i didn't want to strip it, so I replaced the alternator without releasing the tension (not a fun job).
Did the OP say you can release tension with a bolt over the pully bolt? Gonna try that tomorrow because my belt pooped after I cranked it.
*I also plan to get that T50 bolt out and replace it with something that doesn't strip so easy. (What a horrible call on using that T50 Ford)!
Seems like you removed the fan and the shroud without showing or telling in the video.
If my tensioner is grooved do I need to buy one like that or can I buy a smooth one
And this ladies and gentlemen is how you charge extra for installing something so simple you take everything that’s “in the way”off first so you can charge more per hour
+Victor Harvey Thanks for the feedback!
Exactly This !! NOTHING has to be removed to complete this job. Took me 35 minutes to replace the tensioner and belt.

How do you tightend the belt please help?
Someone knows where to get the label on the panel you see at 1:06, the one that gives you the information on the band and other engine data. someone can i help me pls
It's completely unnecessary to remove the plastic cover over the radiator
It looks like they filmed a few videos with this truck at the same time. If you notice when they removed the belt the alternator was different from the one when they reinstalled the belt.
What measures of tool do I use master
also removing that front piece did not help AT ALL.
if only those garbage plastic screws Actually worked that way.
Why was the arm taken off
+Eugene Brownell Thanks for checking us out! This was removed to show the process of the removal and the re-installation. If your arm is fine, you do not need to take it off.
@@1AAuto are the pulley threads reversed?
What size was the breaker bar?
1/2 in (half inch)
Can confirm
that's why I keep my nails slightly long enough to dig out things like that when I work on cars
Thank god my 5.4L has a way easier motor layout
Thanks for watching! +Arturo Soto

*Cough cough coke cough*
Bro I tried to use a half-inch ratchet the bitch got stuck I spent two days trying to figure out how to get it out and I got it out by unscrewing the belt tensioner and legit cutting the belt
