My parents never really let us celebrate Halloween by dressing up or going ‘Trick or Treating’. My parents would have us go to mass for the vigil of All Saints Day, then would buy each of us (my sisters) a small bag of candy. We would go home and watch the old Veggitales that would be Bible stories all night. When I was in third grade I told my friends I don’t dress up and I got bullied. So I went to school dressed up as the Virgin Mary. One of the elder lady’s at church said she would love to make the costume for me. So I went to school as the Virgin Mary and we went home to watch our movies and eat candy. Now that we’re older we don’t watch Veggietales, we watch documentaries about the bible or Christian movies.
Sounds like your parents really knew what they were doing. They were literally living what our spiritual ancestors experienced, as Halloween as we know it is a reaction against having a holy vigil on All Hallows Eve, and honoring the saints and martyrs on November 1 All Saint’s Day, and remembering all of the Christians who died in the faith on All Soul’s Day November 2.

You can spread the news the gospel of Jesus without celebrating Halloween or partaking in its events. We are not to copy the ways of this world. So celebrating something so siddistic and ungodly is not what He has called us to do. Modern Halloween as we know it today is just that - a modernly invented ‘holiday’ combining elements of an earlier American tradition called “Hell Night”, along with a healthy dose of good old “Hollywood” thrown in for good measure. Virtually _all_ American customs associated with Halloween originated right around the 1920’s - 1930’s or so. While there are some vestigial elements from pre-Christian religions in some of the customs (the "apple" traditions - bobbing for apples for example, but that's from the Romans, not the Celts) , the modern costumes, the blood, the gore, the reveling in death and destruction, the candy, even ‘trick or treat’ itself, dates no earlier than 1900’s America. In short, it’s a relatively new phenomenon and represents a mix of cultures, capitalism, and accommodation. Many people seem to associate modern Halloween with three things: The old Celtic New Year’s celebration of Samhain (in asserting that most of Halloween’s customs can be traced to Samhain celebrations); Satanism (asserting that Halloween’s origins are Satanic as evidenced by the many Satanists who use this day to promote their beliefs); and All Saints Day (asserting that the early church established the holiday to “Christianize” Samhain). Upon a more critical examination however, these associations fall more into the categories of wishful thinking and urban legend than actual historical fact. It's simply not a holiday that has close ties to the ancient past, nor does it have some ‘pagan’ antecedent, nor is a continuation of several ancient customs, as some would have one believe. From a Christian viewpoint, it can be said that death is mocked, because Christ conquered death. On another philosophical/psychological level, it allows people to explore their “darker side/psyche”, if you will. A time to explore a side of themselves they would not normally expose or perhaps even consider. It’s a part of being human. A time to play on a few of the basic/core fears of man - fear of the dark, and fear of death - the aspects of these fears that people just don’t like to think about are now exposed for all to ‘see’ and ‘experience’. A sort of annual self-check to make sure that part of our humanity is still there, so to speak. In the end, most people realize it for what it is. Samhain/Halloween is to some people a very spiritual and magickal time of the year; for some it’s a time of fun and candy, perhaps a way to celebrate Fall in general. Still for others, perhaps a time to contemplate their own mortality since the modern holiday mocks death. Some perhaps are not quite sure what to make of it and prefer to steer clear of it, but however you wish to celebrate it….or not - Halloween is only ‘evil’ if one chooses to make it so. I agree 1000% as long as we are not celebrating with evil or devilish intent and all we’re doing is taking our kids to get some candy I don’t see the harm in it. I still have a strong relationship with God. Going out one night of the year to get some candy doesn’t meant we worship the devil and we’re not worship false idols either. We’re being human. look at us adults that were children in the 90s 2000s halloween was so big there were so many kids specials and minimalist didn’t really exist back then so the decor was so crazy, also people were more likely to get dressed up and gather than they are today. While it was fun it certainly influenced me to idolize fantasy and dark spirituality. Ghost, witches, spells, Magic it seemed more friendly than scary, which is probably one of the reasons why and so manny people my age go kind of new age. Im now a reborn christian and i don’t know how to navigate this holiday especially with children. Most of the old shows are tainted now anyways i guess. prayers that we all get through the holiday season with clear instructions and perhaps new traditions
I think the seasons definitely resemble our physical and spiritual life. We come to different stages in our lives where we need to shed the beautiful as well as the disgust and die so that God can make us new and renew us constantly. So that’s what we should celebrate is our unique self made in the image of a powerful Being and not want to be anyone or anything else.

Im last the age of trick-or-treating. I’m still not an adult yet but I’ve outgrown all of that stuff. As a kid I did trick-or-treat but one rule we had was I couldn’t dress up as anything scary. For reference, I dressed up as Spider Man, a Jedi (Star Wars) and stuff like that. Me and my family are Christian, we don’t watch horror movies around Halloween, or ever. Our tradition is to watch old 1930’s and 40’s “scary” movies because we find them kind of funny. When it comes to decorating we put out some orange lights and stuff like that but we’ve always refrained from over doing it or outing out anything that looks or represents something demonic. This is how I and most of my Christian friends grew up. Also because I don’t trick-or-treat anymore. All of that stuff we do between like October 1st through the 30th. We don’t really do anything on Halloween anymore. Now I’m asking for opinions. Does anyone think doing this was wrong as a Christian?
halloween is a christian holiday dating back to ancient times. the real name is called “hallows eve” and is a christian holiday, NOT pagan. also as a person who’s ex-witchcraft and then found god, my life is devoted to god. going to a christian school, doing church, being a worship leader for my school’s chapel day, travelling and doing missionary activities etc. helping people find god, as we should. the whole idea of the holiday was: basically they would dress up (just like now!!) in skulls and intricate clothing, signifying that we are mortal and will die one day. BUT! that was not the cool part. the cool part was that it was supposed to signify that we need God and that we will be reborn if we follow him. so it was a celebration of our mortal bodies; dying and then being saved. but.. then people came along. stole our holiday. pagans? maybe. but really just regular people. especially atheists. they made it seem as though it was a demonic holiday but it’s not. the only reason it could be is because of what people do to celebrate. dressing up and having fun; carving pumpkins and being with family and friends getting candy; decorating the house? that’s not demonic. summoning demons is, and dressing like the devil is, and the only people who are doing that are the ones who ruined our holiday. halloween has always been my favourite, and has a really cool, christian meaning. cool right?! 😁🎃

You don't really know much about Halloween. You thought no further than costumes, the devil, and candy! Halloween was originally the festival of Samhain. The Celts celebrated it as the death of summer and to prepare for death (Winter). They believed the veil was the thinnest at this time of the year and that the dead might walk the earth. They did honor the spirits of their ancestors and some of their Gods HOWEVER they did not worship the devil. As long as you are not practicing witchcraft, there is nothing wrong with celebrating Halloween. Halloween in fact means "Hallow" which translates to "holy." and "een" which translates into "evening." November 1st was all saints day. The Catholic Church has designated this as well. First was Samhain and then it was modified into Halloween. You better not celebrate Christmas either as it was originally Yule. This is more of history for me and I like a good spooky time. My parents never really let us celebrate Halloween by dressing up or going ‘Trick or Treating’. My parents would have us go to mass for the vigil of All Saints Day, then would buy each of us (my sisters) a small bag of candy. We would go home and watch the old Veggitales that would be Bible stories all night. When I was in third grade I told my friends I don’t dress up and I got bullied. So I went to school dressed up as the Virgin Mary. One of the elder lady’s at church said she would love to make the costume for me. So I went to school as the Virgin Mary and we went home to watch our movies and eat candy. Now that we’re older we don’t watch Veggietales, we watch documentaries about the bible or Christian movies.

They were literally living what our spiritual ancestors experienced, as Halloween as we know it is a reaction against having a holy vigil on All Hallows Eve, and honoring the saints and martyrs on November 1 All Saint’s Day, and remembering all of the Christians who died in the faith on All Soul’s Day November 2.

Modern Halloween as we know it today is just that - a modernly invented ‘holiday’ combining elements of an earlier American tradition called “Hell Night”, along with a healthy dose of good old “Hollywood” thrown in for good measure. When one participates in Halloween, one is not participating in ‘evil’ or ‘death’ per se; rather one of the points of the modern holiday is to mock these things. I think that’s a major point many people seem to completely miss or not quite understand. In a way, it’s remotely akin to the Medieval “Feast of Fools”. From a Christian viewpoint, it can be said that death is mocked, because Christ conquered death.
On another philosophical/psychological level, it allows people to explore their “darker side/psyche”, if you will. A time to explore a side of themselves they would not normally expose or perhaps even consider. It’s a part of being human. A time to play on a few of the basic/core fears of man - fear of the dark, and fear of death - the aspects of these fears that people just don’t like to think about are now exposed for all to ‘see’ and ‘experience’. A sort of annual self-check to make sure that part of our humanity is still there, so to speak. In the end, most people realize it for what it is.
Samhain/Halloween is to some people a very spiritual and magickal time of the year; for some it’s a time of fun and candy, perhaps a way to celebrate Fall in general. Still for others, perhaps a time to contemplate their own mortality since the modern holiday mocks death. Some perhaps are not quite sure what to make of it and prefer to steer clear of it, but however you wish to celebrate it….or not - Halloween is only ‘evil’ if one chooses to make it so.

look at us adults that were children in the 90s 2000s halloween was so big there were so many kids specials and minimalist didn’t really exist back then so the decor was so crazy, also people were more likely to get dressed up and gather than they are today. While it was fun it certainly influenced me to idolize fantasy and dark spirituality. I think the seasons definitely resemble our physical and spiritual life. We come to different stages in our lives where we need to shed the beautiful as well as the disgust and die so that God can make us new and renew us constantly. Halloween was an ancient Celtic Tradition where people would wear and decorate in order to "Ward off evil spirits" Modern Halloween is basically this but with less religion and more treats. As a Christian I absolutely adore Halloween, if you are against it totally, you don’t actually understand the Catholic elements of the holiday. I’m tired of these 200 year old American - Christian religious sects trying to say a sacred holiday is inherently evil. Clearly they don’t understand where their religious views came from.
I understand it, that only make it worse. All hallows eve Is a repackaged version of Samhain they just changed the idolatry around from ancestors to the saints.

Personally, I believe Christians would be inclined to celebrate the holiday if they heard about the original meaning which was to scare away Bad spirits. All we have to do is just change bad spirits to Demons and whatnot and
Ignorant Christians would. You don't ward off evil spirits/demons by dressing up and asking people for candy. You ward them off through prayer and connection with the Holy Spirit.
Also, the origin comes from people trying to please the spirits of their ancestors in order to gain knowledge of the future.

OH MY GAWD HALLOWEEN IS NOT A DEMONIC HOLIDAY.
Im last the age of trick-or-treating. I’m still not an adult yet but I’ve outgrown all of that stuff. As a kid I did trick-or-treat but one rule we had was I couldn’t dress up as anything scary. For reference, I dressed up as Spider Man, a Jedi (Star Wars) and stuff like that. Me and my family are Christian, we don’t watch horror movies around Halloween, or ever. Our tradition is to watch old 1930’s and 40’s “scary” movies because we find them kind of funny. When it comes to decorating we put out some orange lights and stuff like that but we’ve always refrained from over doing it or outing out anything that looks or represents something demonic. This is how I and most of my Christian friends grew up. Also because I don’t trick-or-treat anymore. All of that stuff we do between like October 1st through the 30th. We don’t really do anything on Halloween anymore.
Now I’m asking for opinions. Does anyone think doing this was wrong as a Christian?

halloween is a christian holiday dating back to ancient times. the real name is called “hallows eve” and is a christian holiday, NOT pagan.
also as a person who’s ex-witchcraft and then found god, my life is devoted to god. going to a christian school, doing church, being a worship leader for my school’s chapel day, travelling and doing missionary activities etc. helping people find god, as we should.
the whole idea of the holiday was:
basically they would dress up (just like now!!) in skulls and intricate clothing, signifying that we are mortal and will die one day. BUT! that was not the cool part. the cool part was that it was supposed to signify that we need God and that we will be reborn if we follow him. so it was a celebration of our mortal bodies; dying and then being saved.
but.. then people came along. stole our holiday. pagans? maybe. but really just regular people. especially atheists. they made it seem as though it was a demonic holiday but it’s not. the only reason it could be is because of what people do to celebrate.
dressing up and having fun; carving pumpkins and being with family and friends getting candy; decorating the house? that’s not demonic. summoning demons is, and dressing like the devil is, and the only people who are doing that are the ones who ruined our holiday.

You don't really know much about Halloween. You thought no further than costumes, the devil, and candy! Halloween was originally the festival of Samhain. The Celts celebrated it as the death of summer and to prepare for death (Winter). They believed the veil was the thinnest at this time of the year and that the dead might walk the earth. They did honor the spirits of their ancestors and some of their Gods HOWEVER they did not worship the devil. As long as you are not practicing witchcraft, there is nothing wrong with celebrating Halloween. Halloween in fact means "Hallow" which translates to "holy." and "een" which translates into "evening." November 1st was all saints day. The Catholic Church has designated this as well. First was Samhain and then it was modified into Halloween. You better not celebrate Christmas either as it was originally Yule. This is more of history for me and I like a good spooky time. I am a Christian as well.
