My favorite episode Carter drove Jeep top of hill yelling stomping. A bet was made between Carter and another sergant that Carter could not go 24 hrs without yelling at Pyle .of course Pyle in got on Carter's nerves, so top of the hill he goes
This was television when it was measuring up to the expectations of people. Wholesome, REAL entertainment. And even though this took place during the early years of the Vietnam war, it avoided being political, which when you considered that it was based on the USMC, was really quite a feat. And it also managed to paint a picture of the USMC that was neither derogatory toward the Corps nor was it excessively supportive. It had a nice balance.
@@lisaparsons4124 Well to me it wasn't that great. It started off with a bang but then they started making Sergeant Carter dumber than Gomer and it became really silly.

I had heard on a clip on UA-cam that he was a sergeant in real life.somehow I'm not surprised. Just by the way he carries himself and projects his voice.the Marines turned him down so he joined the army.
Frank Sutton was color blind and rejected by the Marines, BUT he was an Army Infantry Sergeant that served in the Pacific, participated in amphibious landings attached with the Marines and was awarded a Purple Heart

This episode was put into a story and Sargent Carter had an evil twin who really was an professional safecracker and got Sargent Carter into a mess of trouble. This was of course when the actors where on breaks or at night.
I wonder if that was an actor playing the barber or one of the bases barbers. I've never known one of the barbers to leave a head with any hair remaining lol.
In the last episode of the fourth season of "Andy Griffith", Gomer tells Andy he has joined the Marines, because he realized he would eventually be drafted into military service.
I thought Sgt. Carter said first word out of their mouth should be sir? They never started a sentence with sir. He never corrected them. Pyle did it later, at the door.
There is an extended behind the scenes on the DVD when he we is getting his haircut and you hear the director say cut, he looks back and grimaces at his haircut, so yeah it was real.
The saddest thing about our military recruitment today is WOKNESS. Drill sergeants are not allowed to yell and build character into the new recruits. Instead they have to use the correct pronouns to the recruits, and when the recruits get their feelings hurt the drill instructor has to back off. Our military is being PUSSIFIED and our adversaries are waiting for the right time to over run our once great and respected country. Yay Gomer! Much better than Homer Simpson! Common Curtisies from the deep south! But he's also clueless naive but wins in the end!
Lol any remake of this now would have Gomer as openly gay, transgenders in the platoon and Sgt Carter would probably be female person of colour.
Sgt Carter's expression when he was watching Pyle's haircut was the happiest he ever was in the whole series
