As a kid in the 90s, my friends all thought I was crazy whenever I tried to get them to watch this show... whenever you actually stumbled onto someone your age who loved the show man oh man... it was like finding your people.
As a middle school speech teacher, I showed the kids a Red Green piece when they were learning how to do a demonstration speech. He created crazy stuff, but he had all the elements - clear instructions, all the parts and tools within reach, eye contact, fun facts to fill "dead air," an intro and concluding statement ("If the women don't find you handsome.."). They loved it! After that, whenever they got their work done early, we'd watch a "Red Green" video as a reward.

However, I'm posting today because I really liked the way Red handled the gay pride sign. He didn't destroy it. He held onto it until he found a place for it inside the Possum Lodge.
As a lesbian who used to watch the Red Green show at my grandparents' house growing up, when I saw the thumbnail I was worried that this episode would ruin that part of my childhood. I was glad to see that they didn't turn out to be bigots, and that there wasn't any homophobic humor.

I grew up on Bob and Doug, and when they had Geddy Lee from Rush do a song on their Great White North album, my older brother and I thought we’d died and gone to heaven. "If it aint broke, you're not trying!"
One of the best parts about working in Canada back in the late 90's and early 2000's was this show
It’s the truth behind his comedy that makes him so funny.
The writers are comic genuises for sure!😂🤣👍
I forgot how funny this show was. Thanks for posting this video. Had a good laugh all the way through it.
Dude, that single-shot around the boat while they talk about having kids, no ripples, so smooth... That was remarkable!
I noticed that also...great job.
Yeah I wonder how they did that... drone cam maybe?
@@369Sigma I'm pretty sure this predates drone tech. My guess is a long boom.
That's what I figured, but how did they do 360? Probably with a cut.
Duct tape and coat hangers
One of the greatest shows of all time!!!😂
I'm sure I'm not the only straight 65yo woman who loves this show - because I like tools, and stupid puns, and creative alterations to cars, boats, anything mechanical; and, of course, duct tape. However, I'm posting today because I really liked the way Red handled the gay pride sign. He didn't destroy it. He held onto it until he found a place for it inside the Possum Lodge.
plus, he put it in the arms of the bear. I thought that was rather funny
As a lesbian who used to watch the Red Green show at my grandparents' house growing up, when I saw the thumbnail I was worried that this episode would ruin that part of my childhood. I was glad to see that they didn't turn out to be bigots, and that there wasn't any homophobic humor.
You have all the interests of a lesbian tho!
Oh gosh !!
I love this show = am 67, straight woman too !
@@barbburns2122me too!
This show, 22 minutes, and air farce were way ahead of their time. Laughter is healthy. These guys a doctors
Speaking as one of the lady folk, the man's prayer puts me in stitches everytime. 🤣
Did you see the episode with the women's prayer?😂
I can’t believe I watched this for free on antenna
Just love the mans prayer, "i'm a man, but i can change if i have to , i guess''..
Every week we said it. Never came true. LOL
Seriously loved this show on our PBS station back in the day! It was a Sunday evening highlight for me for sure. So glad to find it here, so glad I can still laugh along with the dudes up north! 😁😎
It was on a local TV station at my Ontario cottage. Came on at 1 PM on Saturday. I wouldn't miss it.
My station aired it on Saturdays at 10 pm
I was thinking of this show yesterday. Not searching for it. Not googling it on wikipedia.
Just thinking about it.
And lo and behold it shows up in my feed today.
google knows...
A.I.
Same here.
You get on reply for each like. THAT IS AWESOME
Looks like you're lacking a comment. Here's another bonafide comment for you to even things up a little.
Non stop, 20 years on, still consistent, here we are.
This show was always so funny. Great characters and skits. I still remember the man’s prayer, lol.
And I will always use his closing phrase, “keep your stick on the ice.” Great Canadian fun.
I know this show was geared towards middle aged guys but I loved it as a 5 year old girl and I still love it at 26. Duct tape is my go to fix for so many things because of this show.
“I’m a man... I can change... if I have to... I guess”
My favorite line from the show.
I want that to be my epitaph...
Keep your stick on the ice!
If women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy. Keep your stick on the ice.
Too late. I can't and I won't. Everything is great!
I lived in Illinois in the 90s as a child when this was on. I LOVED this show!!!
Red Green is the funniest show that was ever on TV.
WOW I used to wait for Saturdays to watch this and then Red Dwarf back to back. Love Red Green!!
Man I miss that show!
True Canadian icon!👍🏻🇨🇦
True Canadian mentality.
Is he still alive?
He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.
I watched this show with my grandpa before they took it off PBS. He always had night shift and never got alot of sleep but would always stay up to watch it and doctor who with me. Man I miss the early 2000 days..
Red Green and the MacKenzie brothers, Canadian legends.
Kids in the hall, and SCTV with John candy
I grew up on Bob and Doug, and when they had Geddy Lee from Rush do a song on their Great White North album, my older brother and I thought we’d died and gone to heaven. Rush was our favorite band, and except for Monty Python, the MacKenzies were our favorite comedy guys. It wasn’t until I was in my late teens that I stumbled across Red Green, and it became an instant “must watch”- I wish I’d seen it sooner!
i used to each this show all the time with my grandfather, he passed away back in 2005 but i still watch it till this day
The lady in drive-through actually understood him! 😂😂
Decades later and I still love this show. Never fails to make me laugh! Red taught me that duct tape is the Handyman Fix-All and it holds the universe together! So yeah, it's funny and educational! 😂
God Bless you Uncle Red, where ever you are! Keep Your Stick on the Ice! has been one of my departing sayings since I heard it from you. And I don't know if you told me, or I figured it out, but when some one asked why? I say, 'cause you won't get the puck in the net! Be well my friend and thank you so much for the joy you have blessed me and others with.
I believe that was a way of saying have less anonymous sex - AIDS was still killing people when this show started.
Always love this show. Was so lucky as a kid to live close enough to Philadelphia to get it on the local channel.
That's my car, a 74 Pontiac Grand Prix!! Last year with round headlights. Got it in '77 with 32k miles for $3200.
He's right that half finished projects are a sign of a perfectionist. I've been one my whole life.
I didnt even watch the video yet and I'm laughing my face off from the opening pic..red is timeless and priceless !!
This show has so much wisdom.
The only wise thing it does is tried to warn the world about how stupid canada is.
These guys genuinely funny 😂
This brings back so many many good times watching with my dad on summer break during the day when he would stop by home for lunch.
I love Red Green. Used to watch this show on Cleveland's PBS along time ago. I miss it!
Best Handyman's Corner of them all. So classic!
Poignant that he put that sign in the "bears" hand.. :)
still poignant
Two of my favorites are his fence painting machine with a wringer washer! That and power windows!
Red was the man!!!
Omg, I get it now why my parents loved this show!
One of the best comedians in decades
Love this show was on PBS years ago this is a lot better than shows today
