Euro NCAP Crash & Safety Test of Tesla Model 3-2019-Best in Class-Large Family Car/Hybrid & Electric

Euro NCAP performs a series of crash tests on each model tested:
a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid barrier
an offset frontal impact test, 40% of the width of the car is striking a deformable barrier
a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole
a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking systems (car to car, with a pedestrian and a cyclist target), lane support and speed assist technologies and seatbelt reminders.

@@tychothefriendlymonolith Internal combustion engines catch fire all the time, I've driven past multiple on fire in my 20yrs driving. Yet to see an EV spontaneously combust you bullshitter lol
David P the core part of my comment was intended to be a light hearted remark around systems not crashing, and then in a hypothetical comedy scenario having some sort of catastrophic event, much like a cartoon horse falling off a cliff, surviving, then exploding inexplicably. It was not in any way meant to be a critique or positional statement regarding electric vehicles, their design, quality, statistical or observed safety nor an attempt to use commonly reported misconceptions about electric vehicles as a factual lynchpin in an anti EV comment. It is obvious by your straight for the jugular style of reply that this poor but spontaneous and improvised attempt at humour did not come through in the text, but at the same time I can’t help but feel slightly saddened that what was intended to brighten the readers day has been met with such needless hostility. Be calm, and go with God to a more serene and rewarding electric future.
Ed sometimes, what is meant is not what is seen, especially through a medium such as plain text :)

Wow! The pedestrian walking out from the side of the road onto the traffic is the most scary and common issue, and it could stop for it! That is impressive!
Wesley Chuen I literally gasped! Guess I didn’t expected it!
Pretty much every car tested in 2019 with this new AEB features stops the car before the pedestrian is hit, so nothing special for Tesla. Most of the new cars have AEB fitted as standard, and I imagine it will soon be required by law, like ESP was in 2012.

In 2019
@@neo5462 Yeah but im pretty sure the extra sensors would allow it to detect the pedestrian coming up way before any other cars could with just their front radar.
Vanguard nah they all detect it at the same time, if you watch the test of other cars
Side pole test is amazing... And scary lol
Driver chest was rated as marginal, so...
@@fatpigeon1066 Well visually the occupant looks to receive much less energy than the Skoda Scala, where the side impact is pushing into the cabin, and the occupant is shoved across almost to the other seat, I'd rather be in the Tesla.
@@AnatoleBranch in some cases yes, but crumpling tends to be good thing in a crash because it absorbs and dissipates the energy
@@fatpigeon1066 right but doesn't it depends on speed, if you crumple too much then cabin integrity starts to falter, the higher the impact speed. I think the Tesla can handle/dissipate higher impact energies, maybe this leads to lower speed impacts having less energy absorbed by the car, but at least visually it looks way better in the cabin than he Skoda or the Mercedes B Class.
@@AnatoleBranch true, there has to be a valence between both
Engineers: How rigid do you want the cabin to be?
Musk: Yes.
Engineers: Got it.

Accident prevention, crumple zones and ridgity in the right places. Something impressive.

Jet powered glove box will be next
Extremely impressive results
That goes for every car tested then because the B Class scored the same and the Skoda did even better.
Pretty average. The Skoda Scala did better on everything except on the emergency braking. But i must say, the emergency braking on Tesla's is quite good.
SDav21 I’d say all the crashes it avoided were impressive. The rest of the tests were just as good as I would expect for the price and hype. But yeah, the kid jumping out from behind the car and still not being hit was pretty good

@@santiagosanchez2704 well the airbags are inflated via a reaction of sodium azide and potassium nitrate to create nitrogen gas, which comes out a little cloudy so it's probably just that.
