    Really appreciate you making these videos, very concise to the point, you don't move to fast, and thorough. Replacing my first wet end shaft and impeller seals, they were bad, and since I had it apart doing both bearings. Everything is apart, waiting for parts to arrive !

    This was very helpful and I thank you for posting it in detail, and saving me $$$! I ordered the parts I needed, followed your instructions...and it worked! Only caveat I had was getting my impeller off - was frozen solid. I ended up drilling the center out of it around the shaft flange with a 1" hole saw, pulled that main part out and then I heated the rest up with a torch until I could pull the rest of it off with a pliers to get at the molded in/embedded nut. Then I cleaned off all the hardened goo with a hammer and chisel, found a socket that matched the nut and my impact gun whipped it right off! Love it when things work as planned! $30 repair vs. $230+ replacement. Installed and working perfect w/ no leaks!

    Thanks so much for the video! You help me determine exactly what pump I had, which isn’t as obvious as one might think looking at the model number. Ordered all the parts from your website and I’m almost done rebuilding two pumps including wet ends and bearings. Even used your tech-support to text back-and-forth to confirm parts and get links for ordering from your site. Couldn’t of done it without you!

    I really enjoy your videos. I've been a spa repair technician for 16 years. You are a great teacher! Thanks to you, I am always learning a new skill that helps me in my hot tub repairs. (I have never replaced the bearings in a spa motor -until now.)
    *As you know, "Salt Systems" are getting more and more popular now... and this is causing shaft seals to leak more often (causing bearings in the pumps to rust due to corrosion).
    What you have taught me in this video is an essential skill to know!
    You are the best!

    Thank you for this, last time I replaced the motor and pump XP2. Now it's about 5 or 6 years old and something is acting up with it, going to pull it out and look at it. The impeller seems to be connected to the shift ok, and it's not hard to turn. Going to connect it to 110v and see how it does first. Awesome video, looks like I can get parts from you, I definitely will.

    Thanks so much for such a great video! It helped me fix my own Aqua-Flo XP3 after the impeller disintegrated; saved me hundreds of dollars! Luckily the bearings were still good. I just took apart the volute and put in the new impeller, following your example.
    (Does anyone know the answer to this: Will the impeller normally last "forever", and having one disintegrate means there's something else wrong with the hot tub? I can't imagine how or why it happened. The seal was fine, the wear ring was fine, everything looked normal. Well, except for the impeller in pieces...)

    Excellent Video and answered all my questions about repairing the XP-2 ....... BUT ONE ! Is the Silicone you refer to actual Grease or the GE/Dow Silicone Sealer?? I had to cleanup the Motor shaft as you described, but the bearings were like new. The Ceramic bearing had jammed into the Impeller sleeve and sheared it off, so I needed a new impeller as well. One of the eight screws holding the wet-end cover was rusted shut and snapped off. I drilled out the flange to accept a small #6 nut and used JB Weld to seat it. Thanks for the time and effort.

    Awesome video. Learned an awful lot! Thank you for that!
    I've got a problem, though that maybe you can help with. I have an XP2. When I flip the breaker on, if I do nothing, the motor will hum without turning for a few seconds and then the tub errors out (three dots). However, if I give the drive shaft a nudge with a screw driver or something, it spins up no problem. But every time the tub shuts down, when it tries to kick back on, it hums and three dots out. So I'd have to manually nudge the shaft every time. Once I give it that nudge to get it running I can switch between run and circulation modes no problem.... while heating. Once it is at temp, if I hit the pump button to turn switch out of run mode, it just shuts off.
    I've tried replacing the start capacitor and that didn't work. I've manually spun the shaft (with the power off) and I don't feel any grinding or resistance at all..... any ideas?

    I have a problem... The breaker keeps tripping AND and the fuse blows on my down east spa hot tub. I replaced the heating element and it did it again. Can’t be ozone, it’s been disconnected for a while. The hot tub has an LED bulb that is going out.. maybe that. If it’s not the LED, I’m left with the motors. Tomorrow I will take the bulb out and replace the fuses and try again.
    Just wondering if you’ve come across this before?

    Just FYI you use a rag or rubber wedge to remove the impeller. Do not use oil filter pliers or pliers to remove the impeller unless you are willing to break / damage it. It's just plastic. Rubber wedge is probably the best. Folded up rag wedged in 2nd. It may take several attempts with the rag solution if it's your first time till you figure it out.

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 років тому +1

      Charlie, It is probably the bearing because there is really nothing in the wet end that would make that mind of nose unless something is stuck in there.. an Old mechanics trick is use a broom stick or other piece of wood put it up to your ear and then on the motor and pump and the sounds will resonate through the wood so you can pinpoint the source of the noise... Hello, I purchased your rebuild kit for the XP2, 1 HP. 110V, 2 speed pump, 12A. Front bearing was bad and impeller shot. After rebuild when I plug in the pump it goes automatically and directly to high speed and stays on high speed even though I can hear relays clicking when I push the button. I can't turn the motor off unless I unplug the hot tub. I also get a code "IC" and not sure what that means. On the Balboa circuit board I plugged the white wire to neutral, black to hot black while the green to ground. The red is open since I am not running 240V. Did I possibly screw up the switch on the rear of the motor shaft? When I put it back together everything seemed to go smoothly. When the hot tub is operating properly it is suppose to go into prime mode first for five minutes and then the pump will turn on to low speed but again It automatically goes to high speed without the prime mode. I also appreciate the rebuild kit at an affordable price and the shipping was super fast.Thanks.

    • @wally1957
      @wally1957 5 років тому

      The "IC" error is reporting: "Ice” Potential freeze condition detected since newly added water temp is 45 degrees.
      No action required. All equipment will automatically activate
      regardless of spa status. The equipment stays on 4 minutes after
      the sensors detect that the spa temperature has risen to
      45°F/7.2°C or higher.
      I am going to run the hot tub and heat the water enough to get beyond the 45 degree range and see if my pump has it normal functions again.

    Hey Spa Guy! I have an xpe2 pump. Thinking about just buying a new one - it’s really messed up. It’s a model 05725015-5 but I can’t figure out which HP model it is. It’s blank on the label. Any ideas? It’s definitely a 2” intake and output.

    Hi spa guy hope you can help,I have a catalina 200 spa with Ive just got,its been running for a week with on problem but today a FLO code came on for a second and then off when I put the first jet on, you got any tips
    cheers DEK

      Hello Dek Till, You need to watch the pressure switch How To Video so you can understand how to switch works... It most likely is a pump issue though and you don;t have an Aqua-flo in a Catalina you have 2 1/2" x 2" Waterway pump... If the system tells pump one to come on and it does not you will get a Flo code... It is possible that when you touched the button it was trying to start in low speed and not starting you touched the button and it went to high speed closing the switch and turning the code off... If the pump has been worked on you could have a bent switch in the back of the motor if not you could have a bad starter cap or the switch or motor is going bad or is bad... Spa Guy

      Spa Guy hi thanks for taking the time to reply
      When I press the jet button it starts ok in very low speed as it should after about 10 seconds it shows the code for 2 seconds but still works fine the only think that has changed is
      I've put a new nature 2 mineral stick in the holder dose it just need to recalibrate
      Cheers DEK

    • @SpaGuy

      Hello Stephan, It is possible that you chose a 4 or 5 hp impeller and had a 1,2 or 3 hp impeller in the wet end before.. The Wear ring for the 1,2,or 3 is thicker than the 4 and 5 wear ring.. Look at your old impeller just a little off of center and it will usually have the HP stamped in the impeller.. If you have a 1,2,or3 and you purchased a new 4 or 5 then that is why.. You can cut the end off the wear ring and make it shorter so it will fit.. Let me know what happens.. Thanks for watching, Spa Guy

      +Spa Guy no I confirmed with the parts guy that it is the right impeller it it was a 1 1/2 and the part numbers on the old match with the new one and there was no wear plate on it

      Bearings are probably from the rotating jets. Check if any dynamic jets seem stiff in rotation.

    If the old motor breaks I hope be able to purchase just a new motor not both motor and pump.
    I hope to use the wet unit I buy to fit the 48 or 56. How do I buy a "CNP wet unit. I have everything apart much thank to your movie.

    My original XP2 pump shows the horsepower rating as " 4 SPL, and an aperage rating of 8.6/2.8 amps (48 frame). The XP2e
    replacement I received shows the horsepower rating as 5 ("4 OPHP"), and amperage rating of 15/4.8 amps. Can the XP2e (56 frame) be used as a replacement for the XP2, and would it be compatible with the existing electronics?

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 років тому

      Hello John, If your motor is a 48fr 8.6 Amps High Speed it is in fact a 1HP pump no matter what the HP sticker Says also a XP2 wet end is not a 56fr wet end an XP2e can be either though. If you got a Xp2e Impeller for a 15.0 amp High Speed motor it is not correct as the XP2 and the Xp2e are two different Size bodies as well as the impeller would be much larger...In fact there are even two different size xp2e's one that is 6.1" and one the is 6'3". Not to even mention he Xp2e is usually found on a 56fr motor and it cannot be used in place of a XP2 used on 48fr motors.. They are two very different wet ends even thought they look similar. If you put a 15Amp impeller on a 8 amp motor it would destroy it in short order by overheating and overworking it. The things you must line up on an Aqua-Flo wet end end to get the correct inside parts ar ,is it an xp2, or xp2e 6.1 or xp2 6.3 version then what is the amperage. Then there are even different wear rings for the xps, as opposed to the xp2e and then to really confuse things the xp2e 3HP wear ring is different than all of the others.. At least the seals are the same... If you go to the Aqua-Flo Section of my site i try to unravel some of that for you.. Thanks, Spa Guy www.hottubpartsofamerica.com

    You are awesome man thanks. I just no lie rebuilt (took apart cleaned and replaced bearings) on 2 of these i found in a buddies junk pile, still attached to the hot tub. 1 wouldn't turn at all and the other barely turned. i stopped your video at the right times and followed along. both work perfectly now. not even kidding thank you. but i have a question. the motors have a high and low speed. black and red, and a white neutral and a green ground. the lable on the motor says 230v but if i try to hook a hot to the red and a hot to the black and neutral to white, it trips the breaker. but when hooked up as 120v and using red and black depending on speed then it works perfectly. what am i missing? and how is that 230v?
    thanks again and you're help is greatly appreciated.

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  4 роки тому +1

      Common White is Hot on a 230V Pump then Low is usually Black and High is usually Red.. So Black and White 230V is Low Speed and Red and White 230V is High Speed..

I’m can’t figure out weather I need XP2e parts for wet end or just XP2 and if I have a 48 or 56 frame. I measured one thru bolt to the other and it was very close to 4”. Help please.
